I got my NIPT result today, came back low chance for Edward's, Patau's and Down's syndromes. She said it's 99.7% accurate. So I'm one of those women who get a high risk via the combined screening, get very anxious, and then find out that it was a false alarm if you will. I don't plan on having any future pregnancies but I don't think I would opt for the combined screening again. I would either wait and see or go straight for the NIPT (privately) if I felt there were sufficient risk factors (age I guess).
@JH20000 yes if she mentioned a blood test it will be testing for a few thingsa as per @SausageRoll90 and also if you opt for the combined screening then the blood will be tested for that too. For example at mine this time round I was keen to find out if I had low PAPPA, which I had in my first pregnancy and may have been a factor in my child's low birth weight. This time I don't have it.
@avocadotoast11 I think those are good questions and I can't think of any others, but I suppose you could ask to be shown things like the heart, brain, stomach, spine, legs, etc if you're particularly interested in any of those things? But the position of the foetus will determine how clear it is for a layman to see some of those features. I think it's nice to know the exact length from head to rump, so you can try and picture the size in your hand. Still so tiny at 12 weeks even though it also looks so baby-like! As for your records, I think it's called an information request, but I'm not sure who you would make it to, so maybe ask that while you're checking in for your scan?
