Just curious if anyone had experienced anything more painful than labour and if so what?

OP posts:

Tooth abscess. If I had to choose between the two I'd choose labour any day.

I agree with this. Never known pain like it. I'd choose childbirth over it any day

Steroid injection into my ear drum with a huge needle and no anaesthetic.

God it was fucking horrible. It probably wasn’t more painful than labour but it was more acute pain. I cried, a lot. Didn’t cry during labour.

Tooth abscess is definitely up there.

Toothache and a double ankle sprain. At least childbirth was over in a few hours (for me). My ankle sprain took 6 months to recover from and was agony.

WarriorN · 30/05/2024 22:24

Appendicitis

littlenickyy61 · 30/05/2024 22:24

Renal colic and kidney stones had me in the floor screaming with pain - way worse than induction and third degree tear with 1st birth ( which was horrendous ) and 2nd birth with only gas and air

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/05/2024 22:24

No!

Nannyfannybanny · 30/05/2024 22:24

Dry socket just before Christmas, not even an emergency dentist available,4 weeks of agony. Frozen shoulders one lasted a year.. Diverticulosis.fractured coccyx.

Overthebow · 30/05/2024 22:24

The labour and birth when I had no pain relief at all not even gas and air was way worse than my labour and birth with gas and air, so think that makes quite a big difference to how painful labour is. When I had a broken rib it was more painful than the labour with gas and air but not without.

Yes toothache and a chronic anal fissure - not at the same time.

Jegersur · 30/05/2024 22:25

Yes, sciatica and a tooth abscess.

flyingwingsabove · 30/05/2024 22:26

Gallstones. Awful.

Philandbill · 30/05/2024 22:26

Dislocated knee put back without anaesthetic. That hurt.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/05/2024 22:27

Painful, no, terrifying, yes.

NachoHat · 30/05/2024 22:28

I've given birth 3 times with no pain relief at all. BUT I had quinsy and the pain was like birth x 10. It's like the worst toothache combined with the worst earache, headache and you can't swallow or even properly breathe. I thought I was going to die (I had sepsis from it as well). By the time I was admitted to hospital I was literally screaming in pain. It made giving birth seem like a breeze!

vipersnest1 · 30/05/2024 22:28

Endometriosis pain - used to make me wish I could faint so I couldn't feel it for a while. (It felt like someone was squeezing my right kidney.)
A doctor trying to remove a grommet that was stuck to my ear drum five times in a row. Eventually he gave in to the nurse's suggestion he used suction instead of forceps. It tore a hole in my ear drum and I left an outline of my body in sweat on the couch.
Losing the lining of my gut due to a reaction to an antibiotic - I genuinely thought I was going to get to die.
Piriformis syndrome (similar to sciatica). I couldn't walk for two days without holding on to something to help take the weight off my leg. I ended up cooking (totally mad!) because I couldn't think what else to do with myself.
Currently - arthritis is the joint nearest my nail on my right index finger - excruciating, especially if I accidentally knock it against anything. I'm seriously considering asking for the finger from below the joint to be amputated as it renders the finger useless as well as the pain I feel.

Welshcake15 · 30/05/2024 22:28

Tooth abcess and kidney infection were worse. Managed labour with gas and air and breathing exercises. The actual contractions were predictable in timing and length which I found I could cope with. The actual birth part was also pretty short, only about 20 minutes of pushing.

ellyfb · 30/05/2024 22:29

Acute osteomyelitis in my ankle over a period of 3 years. Started on and off when I was 10 but by the time I turned 12 it was constant agony. Had an operation to remove it when I was 13.

Joterrin · 30/05/2024 22:29

Low spinal pressure headache after 4 lumber punctures without local.
Breaking 2 toes at the same time
Dislocating my ankle with a fracture in foot.
Pancreatitis - actually thought I was dying.

curious79 · 30/05/2024 22:29

Air trapped in my body cavity following a small op. Excruciating

LindorDoubleChoc · 30/05/2024 22:29

Gallstones.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/05/2024 22:29

Posted too soon, sorry. Gastroscopy without sedation. Awful. Really thought I was going to die. Would take the first 32 hour labour over that again.

thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway · 30/05/2024 22:29

Tooth abscess, broken leg, spinal fusion and adenomyosis.

Enigma52 · 30/05/2024 22:30

Sarcoma pressing on a nerve. Awful pain.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 30/05/2024 22:30

Another vote for dental abscess. It was so painful I took a leave of my senses, I was seriously contemplating taking a hammer and chisel to the tooth to make it stop.

buma · 30/05/2024 22:31

No.
