Just curious if anyone had experienced anything more painful than labour and if so what?

I'm always fascinated by threads like these, because I've had a dental abscess, broken rib, kidney stones, double mastectomy, and IBS and none of them came close to labour, although dental abscess was second worst.

I really thought I would die from the pain. After every contraction I'd open my eyes and be shocked that I was still on this planet. I couldn't talk or think, my head was filled with white noise. It was bloody awful!

Appendicitis! Labour pains were not so acute - but what was scary about labour was the overwhelming feeling that my body was going to do what it had to do. The feeling of being out of control was worse than the pain. but no regrets.

Fergie51 · 30/05/2024 22:57

Endometriosis and sciatica with a piece of disc piercing sciatic nerve.
I thought I would become unhinged with being in so much pain.

TheFormidableMrsC · 30/05/2024 22:58

I would choose labour over a tooth abscess I think.

Dislocating my knee was a very very close second, I had morphine for the pain, swelled up like a watermelon.
But no..labour tops it! I'll never complain about period pain again after experiencing contractions.

DildoHarding · 30/05/2024 23:02

An arterial aneurysm bursting and haemorrhaging

fabricstash · 30/05/2024 23:02

trapped nerve in my lower back was so much worse

ManilowBarry · 30/05/2024 23:03

I didn't find childbirth both times, particularly painful and once I had given birth any discomfort was immediately over. No pain relief and natural births with no tears.

Dental sinus was more painful.

Having a dressmakers pin impaled in my foot was more painful.

Dental pain in general is more painful.

Smittenkitchen · 30/05/2024 23:03

Chronic anal fissure.
Child birth for me wasn't really agonizing. I didn't have an epidural or gas and air or anything. The tough thing about contractions is the relentlessness and the overall intensity of the sensations, not exactly of pain. My second birth was an induction so did feel incredibly intense.
The fact that it's productive, not a pathological pain really changes it. It doesn't feel like when you are injured or something is wrong with your body. That probably changes when something isn't going right with labour and of course it's just my experience and perspective.

I have adenomyosis and had a couple of years where every month the pain was as bad as labour. I absolutely dreaded my period and often had to go to bed for days, waiting to take the next dose of painkillers that made it slightly better for a couple of hours.

Now I only get that amount of pain maybe a couple of times a year with my period, I dread it getting that bad again.

HoHoHoliday · 30/05/2024 23:12

Endometriosis - so very painful, frequently leading to vomiting and passing out from the pain. And I've lived with that for just over 35 years now.
Also, rupturing ovarian cysts.

HoHoHoliday · 30/05/2024 23:13

@Circumferences I'm so sorry that happened to you 💜

LegoBear84 · 30/05/2024 23:13

A flare up of my Crohns disease which meant many many ulcers throughout the whole of my large bowel. Combined with the stomach cramps from the iron tablets they'd put me on for being anemic.

Wond3rment · 30/05/2024 23:14

Migraine, genuinely.

MrsJackThornton · 30/05/2024 23:15

Trigeminal neuralgia

I haven't been through labour but I'm in a support group for my TN and every woman who is in the group who has been through labour says the TN is worse

Littletreefrog · 30/05/2024 23:16

Kidney stones. Maybe the pain was similar in both but at least I knew what was happening with labour when I had kidney stones I was convinced I was going to die.

Tooth abscess. If I had to choose between the two I'd choose labour any day.

Same

It is worse. Much, much worse!

Labour was a walk in the park in comparison.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 30/05/2024 23:31

Dental abcess or ruptured appendix, birth was a close 2nd- 11lb 3oz back to back stuck little chonker

slyart · 30/05/2024 23:35

Gallstones and dry socket after tooth extraction far worse overall.

Regarding labour I had one back labour with no pain relief and one "normal" induced labour with gas and air. The back labour was horrendous compared to the induced labour - felt like the bones in my back were breaking.

For sure. TN is noted as being the most painful condition ever, took months to get mine under control and as soon as they stopped the drugs back it came, took years to burn itself out. Although for sheer relentlessness arthritis takes some beating

TeeBagGer · 30/05/2024 23:42

Sciatica
Period pain

Fractured rib and wisdom tooth infection

shellyleppard · 30/05/2024 23:44

Slipped on some ice and broke my leg in 3 places......six months in plaster cast 🙄🙄 i passed out when they tried to straighten it before they plastered it.......gas and air was good though 😊

RemarkablyBrightCreature · 30/05/2024 23:46

Uterine embolisation. Genuinely thought I was going to die. Nurse told me it was like having a heart attack - so now I really hope I never have a heart attack 😬
