Just curious if anyone had experienced anything more painful than labour and if so what?

The pain in my lower stomach/pelvic region I had 48 hours after a endometrial biopsy due to it getting infected and causing sepsis was nothing life I have ever felt before and at the same time I felt like life was slipping away and told my husband I’m dying - which I probably would have if it wasn’t for the amazing fast acting NHS

A few months later back in a&e with possible DVT & sciatica - given morphine which didn’t even touch the pain

Yes, I had a kidney infection before I had my son. It was so painful, it made me writhe around in pain. It lasted longer than my labour too (which was 4 hours in total), so worse in more ways than one! With my labour I only needed gas and air, never felt I needed more, it was quick and easy!

2 babies no pain relief, first bearable, second was intensely painful but he arrived in under an hour so pain didn't last long.

Dry socket was the worst pain imaginable.

Bruised eye after laser eye surgery was also worse than first labour - for 24 hours one eye felt like it was going to explode out of my head (thereafter laser eye surgery was best decision ever)

No for me giving birth was another level of pain, never experienced anything like it. I’ve broken/dislocated many bones - been knocked off my bike by a car and broke ribs and collarbone and also broke a bone in my back in another incident falling……… giving birth was 10 times worse.

I find it fascinating how different every persons body and experience of pain is, when we are all the same species!

I had an infected hip joint with gout in it at the same time which according to the drs is incredibly rare. I can't even begin to describe the pain. But it was oddly similar to labour in that while I was in a certain "comfy" position I was 100% fine but then the slightest movement and it felt like the joint was exploding with razor blades. Horrific. But would come and go in waves that left me on the verge of vomiting and sweating like I was in a shower. Got put to Sleep for surgery and when I woke up the pain had just gone and honestly the pain left from the surgery, the 4-5 inch scar and coming on my period an hour after I woke up and trying to manage my zimmer frame, insert and remove moon cup wheni couldn't bend my hip at all etc was a walk in the park and nothing to that pain.

Gallstones, the pain from that blew every other pain I've ever had out of the water.

I had a 4 day labour and emergency c.section which was nowhere near as painful as the gallstones pain.

Labial stitches afterwards and the recovery from that. Awful awful.

Same. Labial stitches - honestly just the worst. Mine fell out almost immediately and it was absolutely agonising - just indescribably painful. Worse than labour. About a year later I had the tear repaired under GA. It was such a better experience!!

LoveMeNot6 · 31/05/2024 09:30

Pinching my sciatica nerve! And I’ve given birth 4 times!!!

WiseDog · 31/05/2024 10:04

Flaskfan · 31/05/2024 10:07

Acute sinusitis and infection. I've never cried with pain before. Praise be for living in an age of antibiotics. Felt nothing short of miraculous when they kicked in.

purepoison · 31/05/2024 10:09

complex regional pain syndrome in right hand

EnjoythemoneyJane · 31/05/2024 10:14

Slipped disc, more than once. I have a constant, 24/7 consciousness of my spine and how it feels (even in bed), and hyper-vigilance around lifting or bending, such is the fear that it’ll happen again. It’s the only thing that’s ever made me faint and/or vomit with the shock of the pain, and the recovery time is a right PITA. Would give birth again all day long in preference to that.

SantasRubiksCube · 31/05/2024 10:16

I'd take labour and birth over the part of being stitched up afterwards, my last one I toee upwards and they couldn't tell where the bleeding was coming from so kept wiping me with something (gauze?) I nearly jumped off the bed. Also I had an awful sinus infection one Christmas which left my face like the elephant man, a black eye and like my skull was splitting open, I took ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine all together and it didn't even touch it. 7 days later of antibiotics, non stop vomiting and brown liquid leaking out of my nose and I ended up at the hospital for dehydration and to check the infection hadn't spread to other parts of my face. Honestly felt like I was dying.

Breastfeeding tongue-tied baby - it was very painful and then I got mastitis.

Labour was like bad period pains. It did get worse, but then I had pain relief and it was OK after that. I had been so anxious about labour and birth but I really did find it fine.

It's hard to compare the pain but I've had migraines that have incapacitated me more and probably been as painful.

DoorPath · 31/05/2024 10:39

Gall stones

Womp · 31/05/2024 10:44

7 hour shin tattoo.

Gallstones.

Mammyloveswine · 31/05/2024 11:47

Loads of things more painful than Labour..!

Breast abscess... pneumonia.. scratched cornea..
Labour is fine tbh!

Flaskfan · 31/05/2024 13:15

And bf with thrush. At least giving birth only happens once in a couple of years, but having to feed a hungry baby whilst suffering through thrush was too much. Every couple of hours. I think I spent about 3 years constantly damp- leaking blood, milk, tears or snot.

thefamous5 · 31/05/2024 14:15

Having my nose pierced

thefamous5 · 31/05/2024 14:16

And migraines.

I had three of my children with no pain relief, not even has and air, and I'd rather do that than nose piercing or migraine.

WithACatLikeTread · 31/05/2024 20:56

Tooth abscess.

Shityshitybangbang · 31/05/2024 23:27

Definitely birth, just gas and air as there was no time for anything else. I actually told the midwife I was dying, she said no your having a baby. Was in labour for 20 min from start to finish. But by god it was painful even though quick

Mayhemmumma · 31/05/2024 23:30

How did I forget breastfeeding?? They say it doesn't hurt but in my experience the first 4ish weeks are like dipping your nipple into a blazing fire.

(It gets better, pain free, cost free, convenient and wonderful but I had to persevere)

Al991 · 31/05/2024 23:31

I’m gonna go against the grain and say nope, never experienced pain like it. Hope I never do again 🫠

Dibbydoos · 20/08/2024 07:07

Labour is def not as painful as many make out. It's more uncomfy than painful imo and I didnt have pain relief with no 2 cos there was no anesthetist available.

Braxton Hicks help prepare you for the feeling of real contractions, but when combined with a downwards push to deliver the baby, it's less uncomfortable.

Luckily I haven't had much pain in my life, so can't really comment on your Q.
