Just curious if anyone had experienced anything more painful than labour and if so what?

Toss up between a virus that caused a headache so painful I told the nurse in A&E if she was offering euthanasia I’d take it or when I fell down the stairs and partially ruptured my ACL and broke my leg…and I gave birth on paracetamol, dihydrocodeine and a tens machine.

As painful but not more painful...

  1. exposed nerve endings of failed upper molar extraction
  2. unset broken scaphoid/wrist
PurpleReindeer2 · 30/05/2024 22:05

Kidney stones. The pain is constant not in waves like contractions. Also tooth abcess and dry socket following tooth extraction.

DrCoconut · 30/05/2024 22:06

I'm on the tail end of a back spasm. It's really hurt. Kidney stones were horrendous too.

PearlKoala · 30/05/2024 22:06

I had an ovarian cyst that burst, the pain was so bad I vomited then blacked out.

Clingfilm · 30/05/2024 22:07

No, labour was 'i'd happily die now to stop this' level for me. I'm pretty hardy with the other stuff.

Trishna99 · 30/05/2024 22:07

Nothing more painful than being induced.

Catnuzzle · 30/05/2024 22:08

Inflamed gall bladder.

lissie123 · 30/05/2024 22:08

Wisdom tooth infection. Geez that came close to me trying to take my own tooth out.

MillenialAvocado · 30/05/2024 22:08

I didn't feel labour pains because I had an epidural, but unfortunately the anaesthetist hit a nerve while doing so, which was possibly the worst pain I've ever felt in my life.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 30/05/2024 22:11

Cardiac pain

BouleDeSuif · 30/05/2024 22:11

Infected jawbone after a tooth abscess, and sciatica.
I was in labour for almost three full days and would take that over the tooth any time.

weegiemum · 30/05/2024 22:12

Kidney stones. I passed a good number of them during pregnancy (some rare reason why I had them) and I was just so relieved to be in labour as it really wasn't as bad. At least labour is mainly a "productive" pain. Going through all that for a 2mm stone was much worse xx

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 30/05/2024 22:12

Sciatica

Bathoclock · 30/05/2024 22:13

Gallstones/gallbladder infection.

In part it’s because you can’t see an end in sight and it doesn’t seem worthwhile.
While in labour I was able to tell myself the more painful it was getting the closer was to meeting my baby, that made it easier to manage.

SwayingInTime · 30/05/2024 22:14

Tooth abscess, I just sobbed continuously at it's worst. Also tore my cornea which was comparable.

Have had home births.

FarmersWife2019 · 30/05/2024 22:14

Gallstones 5 weeks after giving birth to my first child. It was an induction and from waters breaking to being born was 7 hours. As it was fresh in my mind I aways swore bilary colic / infected gallbladder was more painful than birth but now I’m pregnant with my second I’m now not so sure. Did my mind play tricks on me?!

Coconutdreamer · 30/05/2024 22:14

Costocondritis. The pain was so severe for 3 days that it was all I could do to keep as still as possible which lowered the pain a tiny bit, but we all also had Covid so coughing made me feel such pain that my eyesight blurred and I thought I was dying.

Never sort medical help as the whole household had covid and the media said to stay away from all medical facilities, but a month later the GP told me not to listen to such nonsense and that they were seeing Covid-positive patients who needed any kind of urgent assistance in a marquee in the carpark.

I’ve had many repeated bouts but none like the first one, thankfully. It absolutely seriously rivalled childbirth.

mamakoukla · 30/05/2024 22:14

Period pain. Worse and lasted longer. No pain relief for giving birth (too rapid)

Yes! Got booted in the chest by a horse. Shattered sternum and a few ribs. God it hurt, I've never felt anything quite like it, Dr said it looked like I'd been in a car crash. My whole chest was black for weeks and everything hurt, just breathing hurt. I coughed once and thought I was going to die. I'd take labour again any day over a repeat of that!

Oof ouch!! Iv always been scared of horses in fear of this! Lucky it didn’t kill you!

Lifelikinotdothinki · 30/05/2024 22:17

Toothache, trapped nerve in shoulder.

TribeofFfive · 30/05/2024 22:18

Appendicitis. Crippling pain.

The worst pain of all though is grief and I’ve yet to experience anything that comes close.

BigBundleOfFluff · 30/05/2024 22:19

I'm a complete wuss but I'd take labour over the year I had of sciatica, so many times I just wanted to be a torso.

mambojambodothetango · 30/05/2024 22:19

Nothing worse than childbirth. However being stung by a hornet was second in terms of pain. And climbing/descending Snowdon in a heatwave was second in terms of sheer physical effort.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 30/05/2024 22:03

@Mairzydotes

Mastitis with an access.

Do you mean abscess?

Yes, bloody autocorrect!
