@longingtobe23 I’m 19+4 and still haven’t gained any weight I’m 2lbs down actually as I’d had a few bugs so I wouldn’t worry too much as I know most of the weight gain is after 20 weeks. You might have an anterior placenta too.

How long is it till your NHS scan? I went for a private one 2 weeks before mine for similar worries so if it’s going to make you feel better then theres no harm.

longingtobe23 · 24/04/2024 13:59

@Cat2022 thank you! One day I am completely rational and know I’m okay then the next I am a bag of nerves! Not even my first pregnancy but it’s been a while. I think placenta is low (last scan) but might go again before and check 😩

NHS scan is only next Tuesday 20th but my husband can’t come as we need childcare and it is early a clock so nobody to ask… so perhaps that’s adding to my anxiety.
The closest place to me (and the best tbh) is MUMs Solihull for a decent scan and its not cheap but the videos always make it worth it. I’ll weigh up some options 🙃

Thank you! We were told to look away ALOT.. so that makes me assume there was a big pair of balls on show alot of the time 😂 and boy was my first instinct anyway..

However I thought that about my daughter and we were wrong lol

MudandMoet · 24/04/2024 16:21

@HRP1990 lovely scan pic - is it a beach trip for the gender reveal? 🩷💙 I can't wait to know ☺️

I'm 22 weeks today and getting regular kicks and feels in my tummy now which is making me relax more. She's suddenly active when I'm laid down on an evening so much so that I think if I didn't feeling her booting me now each evening I would definitely panic. Just starting to feel her more during the day now too though nothing like evening kicks 🫶🏻

HRP1990 · 24/04/2024 17:27

Well remembered @MudandMoet 🫶🏼 still the plan.. typically it’s not sunny here until next week 😬 can we hold out that long though.. that’s the question.

Aww isn’t it just the best? Any movement is reassuring for sure!

Xur · 24/04/2024 18:14

congrats on the lovely news @HRP1990 @RosiePH 💖

I hope you get well soon @Decaffe.

My baby has been lazy today, didn’t want to kick much during the day, then he woke up after 1400. So when I went home I grabbed the Doppler, looked down on my bump just after I lowered my trousers and saw it moving where the baby should be, just under belly button. I was shocked because I was seeing it with my own eyes, but couldn’t feel anything, no brushing, bubbles, no pressure.
is that like normal? Or maybe my body is now so used to baby I’m not registering the feeling of movement?

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 24/04/2024 19:22

Anyone use spritz for bits before? Any good?

I've just seen the peri prep your bits oil too - I did perineal massage last time but can't remember what oil I used but I'm defo doing it again this time as I only had 1 tiny tear and some grazes last time and I swear thats the reason why!

Emmaev · 24/04/2024 19:40

@MudandMoet arent the kicks amazing! I’m 21 + 2 and she’s finally making herself known my belly has been doing crazy things the past couple of days and I feel her almost constantly

Does anyone know when Tesco F&F 25% off ends? I have an absolute shortage of clothes and they have some gorgeous dresses at the moment

MudandMoet · 24/04/2024 20:54

@HRP1990 I was so envious when you said last time, it's stuck with me how special it must've been 🥰 I have no clue how you're holding out this long. Ten points for resistance girl!!

@Xur no I don't think you'll get used to the feeling to a point it won't register. Maybe you were so transfixed on seeing an actual amazing little movement that the feel of it didnt quite register as it normally would that particular time?

Interesting topic @BeautyAndTheBump1 I've been thinking about this for a while as I'm prepared to do anything I can if it'll help against a tear. I was wondering if there was a product available to stretch the area before birth and when you should start using the same if so.

Also does having sex stretch the vaginal canal to a certain point (thinking if I can use it as an excuse to make DH engage more 🤦🏼‍♀️ not saying he's huge by any stretch of the imagination but every little helps right?)

@Emmaev honestly yes 🙌🏼 it's sooo amazing to have regular reminders everything seems okay 🫶🏻

Cat2022 · 24/04/2024 21:13

@BeautyAndTheBump1 I bought spritz for bits last time but I had some stitches and the midwife told me I shouldn’t use that on them so I just never did. Since Iv still got it unopened I will probably use it this time if needed.

Xur · 24/04/2024 21:17

@MudandMoet I asked my friend about this, she said she had it aswell when she saw the skin move but no particular sensation about it. She said supposedly it’s the baby’s back. When they’ve turned around and their feet are facing my back, they kick and move, but we don’t really feel it, but we can just see the back slightly brushing against our bellies which causes the movements. It’s cos it’s not an extremity causing it, but rather..momentum or slight body brush.

On the topic of easing the work of our bits. In the third trimester we could be taking ocra. It’s an African method, the easiest I think is preparing ocra water. It can be boiled or just infused in the drinking water. What ocra does is turn anything that has water in it into a slimy-lubey substance. So basically it turns our birth canal and vaginas into a lubed water park slide. Therefor substantially decreasing friction. Read up on it, some women say they had extremely fast delivery after using it.

ForeverHopeful67 · 24/04/2024 21:19

@MudandMoet I'm 21 weeks today and also loving the consistent movements 🥰 definitely noticing it more as soon as I lie down!

@BeautyAndTheBump1 I used a version of spritz for bits mostly after I had my daughter as I tore and got an infection (awful!). But it really helped to provide some relief just before going for a wee etc and had a nice but gentle smell which made me feel better about the war zone going on down there 🤣🤣 - don't think anyone prepares you for just how much blood you lose afterwards!

MudandMoet · 24/04/2024 22:15

@Xur made me chuckle reading that... literally had visions of babies sliding out of lubed tuppences at around 80mph 😂

@ForeverHopeful67 it's lovely isn't it, just when all nice and settled down and the little kicks start. I think I've slept a little better these last few days from the comfort of the feelings at bedtime 🫶🏻

SpicyMoth · 24/04/2024 22:16

"I think placenta is low (last scan) but might go again before and check"
@longingtobe23
My sonographer said mine was sitting a little low at my 20 week scan the other day (am 20+6 it turns out, so almost 21!), I've done some googling but I can't fully tell if it's something to be worried about as google will only come up with "low lying placenta" and "placenta praevia" and I have no idea if mine counts as either of those as the examples seem more extreme!

My brain has been absolute mush but I think she said it was 1.5cm or there abouts away from cervix and it's supposed to sit at 2cm away apparently?

But .5 doesn't seem like a massive amount to me, and she also said there's still time for it to move up - So I have no idea if it's something to worry about or not!

Do you have much experience or not really?

This is my first so I feel totally in at the deep end, especially as my MW said most things on google are at least a good few years out of date supposedly!!

EDIT: I have nothing to really add re; spritz or oil - but my mum's sorted me out with both so I suppose I'll be able to report back if either are any good later on! xD <3

The spray is a work of art! I actually looked forward to going to the loo and spraying it 🤣 it felt so nice

I’ve used organic coconut oil for the perineal massages in both previous pregnancy’s, and got a tear with neither of them. Unsure if it’s linked but you sure as hell better believe I’m doing it again this time 😂

My first I was pushing for 2 hours, and my second came out quite quickly on the birth centre floor and we walked away both times with “intact perineal” so deffo give it a go. I don’t think you need to buy a fancy product specifically for it, like I said I’ve always just gone for pure organic coconut oil before and didn’t have any problems

Honeyandsunshine1 · 24/04/2024 23:40

I’ve worded that so confusingly @MudandMoet 😂 I meant to say, “and had no tears with either of them”**

mrsbgb · 25/04/2024 06:28

Hope those suffering with this cold/chest thing are starting to feel better!

I’ve got my 20 week scan this morning, excited to see baby again. We had a private scan a fortnight ago so know that we’re having a boy already, so instead I’ve put that excitement/anxiety into convincing myself that maybe something is wrong with him 🙃 still can’t track down my community midwife to speak to either, so it’ll be nice to some some of the midwife team at our hospital who’ve been so lovely.

Lillers · 25/04/2024 06:39

Morning everyone, and good luck with the scan today @mrsbgb!

I’m fairly sure I felt baby kicking last night - I’ve felt little rolls etc but these were 3 very distinct little kicks. I’m 18+1 and this is my first baby so I wouldn’t have been surprised to have to wait a couple more weeks, but it was lovely to feel.

I’ve managed 3 whole days at work so far this week 😂. They’ve also been longer days as Monday I had an SLT meeting, Tuesday was Parents Evening and Wednesday is always a later finish anyway. Hoping I’ll be able to cruise through to the weekend now despite being exhausted. The kids have mostly all realised I’m pregnant now - as people at work keep saying “that bump is bumping!” All my classes have asked me outright except for my A Level group - I’m guessing they’re too tactful 😂

@BeautyAndTheBump1 I did the massage on the lead up to birth and ended up with only a slight graze, so definitely doing it again this time. I had spritz for bitz too and it definitely gave some relief.

The biggest game changer for me though was the squirty bottle! I’ll try to link it. You spray it on as you pee and it dilutes the urine as it comes out, and totally takes the sting away - honestly out of all the stuff for baby and me, it was my best post-partum purchase! Along with an insulated straw water bottle and a thermos 😂

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 25/04/2024 09:38

@MudandMoet I'm sure that DTD will help! I spent my entire pregnancy avoiding my DH last time and then when it came to 37 weeks I was like right we need to have sex now all the time to get this baby out of me lmao!

@Cat2022 oh really! I had 1 stitch last time so guess i wouldn't have been able to use it either - i'm still tempted to buy some though!

@Xur that's really interesting I've never heard of that before - how do you get it? Do you drink it? What does it taste like? I've heard lots about drinking rasberry leaf tea in the 30s!

@ForeverHopeful67 I'm gonna get some you've persuaded me! And omg the bleeding. I'm going to try the adult nappies this time around and see how I get on with them before I move onto maternity pads

@Honeyandsunshine1 you've persuaded me...I literally kept holding my wee in for hours and hours just because I didnt want to go to the toilet that much cus it hurt so badly lol and OMG the coconut oil..i've had some coconut oil in my drawer and i've always thought what on earth have I got that for...that's what I used last time you've just jogged my memory lmao!

@tryingfortwo2 I have seen those - great to know they work! I'm going to get one - I stole my measuring jug out the kitchen cupboard last time and used to fill that with warm water and drown my bits in it as I peed lmao!

Xur · 25/04/2024 09:45

@BeautyAndTheBump1
you just buy it in the veg section in any grocery store. It looks like a small courgette/cucumber.

https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/260918818

cut it up in pieces like a cucumber for a salad and put it in a drinking water bottle, then let it fridge overnight and just drink it. Apparently it doesn’t taste like anything, people also add lemons/limes or whatever to give the water a taste of lemonade. It will become slimey, so you can get grossed out. It’s like drinking jelly desert 😂 oh, needless to say it will make our poop slimy aswell, it will take care of the constipation as well as the vague friction.

MrsM89 · 25/04/2024 10:00

@longingtobe23@longingtobe23 and @SpicyMoth i was told I had a low lying placenta at previous scans so hoping its moved already by tomorrow's 20w scan. Think if not they rescan at 28 or 32 w to check again. X
