I’ve already had the comments “are you sure it’s only one?!” 🫠🫠 and “wow, you are huge”
and please tell me everyone else gets uncomfortable when people try stroke your belly without even asking. Or am I just being precious? 👀 @WinsandSam @YellowZ

WinsandSam · 08/04/2024 09:01

@BeautyAndTheBump1 that is a breakfast of champions!!

@Honeyandsunshine1 I can't say anyone has tried to touch my stomach yet. People look/ask to look as I wear baggy clothes for work. I wouldn't like it if they did touch me as I am not big of physical contact on a good day 😅

longingtobe23 · 08/04/2024 09:11

I’ve not gained a drop yet weight wise (still throwing up) and eating bear minimum in the evening as so uncomfortable- but lots of boring carbs in the morning
crumpets today 🤭

I didn’t weigh myself with my first pregnancy as I was so young we never had scales in the house! But now I’m 9 years older we do 😂
midwife said not to worry as after 20 weeks I should see steady gain of 1lb or 0.5lb a week JOY 😂

rupertbear91 · 08/04/2024 09:19

@BeautyAndTheBump1 don't worry my breakfast was a cupcake made by my cousin for my birthday yesterday despite being up for hours in the night with terrible heartburn from already eating one yesterday.... I don't learn!

Cinai · 08/04/2024 09:21

Lovely bump photos 😊 My bump is not very defined yet…I’ve gained 2kg so far but it just looks like I’ve enjoyed my food too much 😅

Lillers · 08/04/2024 09:51

@Honeyandsunshine1 Yes, and it’s very unnerving having people openly stare at your stomach too!
Yesterday I met up with lots of DH’s extended family, and one of his older relatives put her hand on my bump, then said, “Oh sorry, I should ask first shouldn’t I!” with the hand still sitting there. I just said (as lightheartedly as I could), “Haha well I haven’t really felt where the baby is yet, for all I know you’re stroking my liver right now!” It got a laugh, she removed her hand and nobody else touched me.

Love, love, love all the bumps!💖

@Honeyandsunshine1 omg no! To be honest no one has tried to touch my belly, even my mom didn’t. Only my partner is touching it but it would not be acceptable for me if anyone else tried to touch it. I don’t even get it why would anyone want to touch it. It’s not a puppy up for pets.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 08/04/2024 10:56

@Honeyandsunshine1 Definitely not being precious, I've not had any comments or touching yet but my last pregnancy it drove me nuts! I made a mental note to myself from the experience to never comment on anyone's bump size or touch their bump (not as I would ever touch!)

My old lady rude neighbour when I was in the 20 weeks told me my bump was humongous and that it was going to be a huge baby and how was I planning on birthing it when im 'only tiny'

Then in the 30 weeks she learned I still had HG and said 'goodness me your bump is tiny, is that baby going to be okay when it's out I bet it will barely weigh anything having not eaten all this time itll have to stay in hospital' 🤯 I was ready to throw hands at my 78 year old neighbour I must admit 😂

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 08/04/2024 10:58

@rupertbear91 🤣 enjoy the cupcake, deal with the heartburn later 😂 and if you throw it back up it doesn't count anyway 😏 hope you had a nice birthday despite being so poorly!

HolyMoly24 · 08/04/2024 11:00

@Honeyandsunshine1

My friend kept touching my belly on a girls day out a few weeks ago when I was only 12 weeks. She'd had a few drinks but I was just thinking 'you're literally just touching bloat' 😂

longingtobe23 · 08/04/2024 11:16

@HolyMoly24 my brothers girlfriend did this to me Easter Sunday after our lunch
she just gave it a little pat and I just blurted out “that’s just fat” 😂

I don’t love anyone touching my tummy, when my mum rubbed it when I told her I cringed and said please don’t. So hopefully she’ll listen to this 🫠

Emmaev · 08/04/2024 13:12

@Honeyandsunshine1 yess! I’ve been huge since the first positive test thanks so bloat. Constantly having to say I just carry big when they ask if there is two in there.
I’ve had a lot of people touching my belly and I just say I wouldn’t stroke my belly too hard you’re stroking my gas and always ready to explode. Gets them off pretty sharpish.

Im 19 weeks today and I feel like baby has moved up my belly, I’ve been feeling flutters near my c section scar real low, but today babes been poking me just below my belly button, and definitely having a go on my bladder.

Khanga27 · 08/04/2024 16:39

Hi all just adding myself in.

i just wondered, has anyone had issues with work expectations for example whilst being pregnant? My work has been comparing my ability to do extra hours etc to other staff. Since joining this team as well from a different area I’ve never had formal training (it’s a new career area for me) yet I’m compared to those more experienced in the field too. It’s really got me down quite a lot, but I may also be quite emotional due to the hormones

Xur · 08/04/2024 17:31

@Khanga27 Hi,
did your line manager do a risk assessment with you when you notified them of your pregnancy?
if you haven’t told work yet they might me doing a performance appraisal, but anyway ability to do extra hours should never be part of the curriculum, because they are extra and are not in your base profile. In an informal way obviously it does work in peoples favour in the eyes of the management if they are able to do overtime/staff sickness or holiday covers, but normally it is not part of routine performance appraisals.

hol92 · 08/04/2024 17:40

Just checking in :)

but also does anyone know anywhere that sells cheap but decent stretchy midi cami dresses :) loved a tight dress and oversized shirt in my last pregnancy :D

HRP1990 · 08/04/2024 17:55

@hol92 I went into Matalan on Friday looking for maternity (it’s all online 🙄) but they had loads of camis/vest tops, and same in dresses too. I was thinking of getting some of the top for labour/afterwards

Khanga27 · 08/04/2024 18:28

@Xur I told my manager at 9 weeks because of my nerves after a miscarriage last year and how ropey I was with morning sickness. Was told policy was to do risk assessment after 20 weeks when uploading MATB1 form from midwife to system. I was really surprised that was their stance and I requested from HR for this to be earlier due to symptoms and other issues and they sent docs over to pass to my manager, but not had it yet.

WinsandSam · 08/04/2024 18:38

@Khanga27 I'm now 16 weeks and still haven't had a risk assessment or any paperwork. I work for the nhs but have an awful manager who hasn't got a clue!! Shocking really

Khanga27 · 08/04/2024 18:47

@WinsandSam yeah my understanding was you needed one once you told work. They’ve known now for 10 and a half weeks (I’m now 19 and a half weeks pregnant). I sympathise on manager

Xur · 08/04/2024 19:35

Yes @Khanga27 your understanding was correct. I am a manager and the risk assessment must happen once you inform your employer you are pregnant. Normally it’s related to when you say in writing but most places do not require a written confirmation and just take the verbal note and carry on with the procedure. Normally what happens is that once you tell your line manager you manager will then inform HR in writing and then either HR provides your manager with the risk assessment forms and advice on what the procedure is or your manager already knows. But the employee health risk for pregnant workers starts as soon as you notify.
your employer is required to consider your work related stress, physical work such as lifting or carrying heavy stuff, sitting or standing for prolonged time and exposure to unhealthy chemicals etc.
if your employer is having you continue working there whilst pregnant without carrying out a risk assessment, then the employer is technically breaching their duty of care towards you. If anything happens to you or your baby your employer might be liable. For further reading please look at the below links. You are right to ask for a risk assessment to happen earlier, if HR denies this then what the actual fuck!?!?
if they are reviewing your ability to do extra work whilst pregnant, really the only outcome of that review, unless you really volunteer would be to exclude you from doing any extra while pregnant because that could attribute to work related stress which is something your employer should be looking to avoid putting you under.

Happylittlebump · 08/04/2024 20:00

Hello everyone,
I have been reading the posts and have only just joined. I am due towards the end of September.

I don't have much of a bump at the moment, I have had my 12 week scan a few weeks ago which was amazing.

Fik88 · 08/04/2024 20:38

Hi all, just checking in, wondered where everyone had gone, didn't realise the last thread ended.

tryingfortwo2 · 08/04/2024 20:55

@BeautyAndTheBump1 i had a low anterior placenta in my first pregnancy, my bump had stretched enough by 20 weeks for them to see it was no longer in the way, but it still generated an extra scan at 28 weeks to double check all was fine.

The likelihood of all being well is quite high I think, so fingers crossed for you!

SantasRubiksCube · 08/04/2024 21:18

Hi can I join? I was on the last thread but I think I only commented two or maybe three times when it had just started. Currently 18+4 and as I was already large and this is 4th baby I have a huge bump although I suspect alot of it is bloat still as the top part of my abdomen is rock hard yet the bottom bit (where the actual baby is 😅) is still squishy. I got to hear the heartbeat at midwife appointment which was nice and have been feeling movements since quite early, even went to watch some live music last night and definitely got some kicks and punches ha ha.

Happylittlebump · 08/04/2024 21:33

@SantasRubiksCube wow that's amazing. I understand that it differs on when to expect movement, I don't feel anything yet. I have been experiencing dull aches again today so I think my bump may be getting bigger soon.
