Aw I love the comparison @cd24x! it just made me look through my photos to see the difference between my daughter and now. I’m definitely showing quicker this time!

Is anyone finding anything difficult yet? I can’t just get out of bed now I’m finding myself rolling to the side lol. Same with getting dressed.. I can’t just lift my legs up into my trousers, I have to go in from the side so I don’t hit my belly 😂🙈

malimoon · 19/04/2024 18:20

Had my 16 week midwife appointment today (at 17+0) and heard the baby's heart beat! I wasn't sure if she'd try to listen as had heard they don't always at this stage but she seemed to think it was standard practice and as soon as she got the sensor on my stomach there he was! So that was very cool. I still don't have much of a bump but it's my first time so guess that's why!

WinsandSam · 19/04/2024 18:40

Hey ladies,
Went for a private scan today and didn't plan to find out the gender... but I got too excited!!

Everyone said boy and we were convinced..

However, we're having a girl 💕 so thrilled xx

WinsandSam · 19/04/2024 18:49

@RosiePH @SC126 that's great you got a date!! I was told I won't be given one until about 3 weeks before 😳 I'm a planner and want to know now.

Sorry the appointment was bad though

SpicyMoth · 19/04/2024 20:39

Tysm for the perspective @Lillers I really do appreciate it and you're 10000% right! <3

"Is anyone finding anything difficult yet?" - @HRP1990
Shaving my legs has become insanely uncomfortable!
Every lift of a leg to reach my ankles in the bath is met with a wee internal thud of movement and sudden uptick of heartburn - I assume from my insides being squished up into my ribs?
I've taken to sitting on the edge of the bath instead, but then I get back pain from leaning over instead, and freezing cold from the lovely hot bath water evaporating off my body! 😂
I also need my DP to give me a hand getting back up when I squat down in the supermarket to reach something at the back of the bottom shelf - Just a tad embarrassing!

RosiePH · 19/04/2024 20:51

@WinsandSam i think being told at 36 weeks is standard! I seem to have had quite an unusual experience with being told this early, so I’m sort of expecting it to change when the actual letter comes through.

I was just very bemused by the whole thing which is why I told the receptionist he’d just booked me in for a section and asked about the letter for that, as well as the form he’d given me for the 36 week appointment. I couldn’t work out whether she was surprised or if she seemed a bit judgemental about that - but I said it was my wish based on medical history. But when I said he’d given me the date, both receptionists looked really shocked. It was so strange! He didn’t say he was doing anything unusual!! I am now wondering if he was a locum gone rogue and it’s not his list he was actually populating for September 😂

I was supposed to see a different consultant my midwife had specifically recommended but I think there were some emergencies in the scanning clinics and after an hour’s wait they took me to another waiting room and then I went in to see a different consultant to the one I was referred to.

@Lillers sorry your sister had such a bad time with consultants! Good to know the one you see in the clinics is not necessarily who you see on the day.

MudandMoet · 19/04/2024 21:01

@cd24x @SpicyMoth loving the bumps ☺️ all gorgeous ladies - we've done so well! I never ever (and I'm sure I'm not the only one in the group) thought I'd get to this point. Magical 🥰🥰🥰

@malimoon ahh another week or two and I bet that little bump will pop 🫶🏻

@WinsandSam ahh lovely news 💕💕💕 congrats!

tryingfortwo2 · 19/04/2024 21:26

@SpicyMoth I don’t have any tips on how to avoid it, but with my first we were totally convinced it was a boy - like fully invested (numpties) that it was so obviously a “he”. Of course she‘s a girl! In the scan room we did the usual “oh my goodness! A girl!” stuff then afterwards were both a bit shellshocked. We went for lunch at the garden centre next to the hospital and DH bought a Flopsy Bunny teddy with a pink jacket on for her, and when I got home I went online and ordered the cutest girl outfit I could find 😂 probably took me about 24-48 hours for it to sink in, was definitely a really weird feeling. But then she got here and good lordy we were meant to have this little girl💕 she is the absolute best! And now neither of us can imagine ever not being girl parents 😂

If you can’t prevent it, and it turns out the opposite way, I think that it’s totally normal to feel a bit funny about it!

YellowZ · 19/04/2024 15:02

All good with the scan. We're having a girl! ☺️ And a very wriggly one too.

Congratulations!! 🎀 😍

longingtobe23 · 19/04/2024 22:35

I’m still not getting too much bumpy 18+2 but feels considerably round and hard at the bottom 😅

I did two orders today! A Snuzbaskit for downstairs naps (my sis has one at the mo and recommend for longer babies as they’re meant to be longer lasting than usual Moses) my son was very very tall 🤞🏻
also a baby changing bag .. spur of the moment saw it and liked it

these were the only smaller ish items I thought I could get away with for now it will feel so real when they’re here ☺️

Aw being girl mum is honestly the best!!
We were like this with our first.. everyone told me I was “carrying like a boy” everyone was so convinced we were having a boy that I couldn’t then see myself having a girl!

When we found out after the NHS scan we even went for a private scan to double check that she was indeed a girl 😂

She is the sassiest most loving little girl that I now can’t imagine being a boy mum lol - we’ll find out next week!!

rupertbear91 · 20/04/2024 08:46

I have a serious vinted problem. Why is it so hard to not buy cute baby clothes on there 🤦🏽‍♀️ I promised myself I wouldn't buy clothes till after our 20 week scan in 2 1/2 weeks but I caved badly 😂

Emmaev · 20/04/2024 09:07

I absolutely love being a girl mum, totally obsessed with my girl.

I did however feel that this time we were going to have a boy because my pregnancy had been so different. But turns out how sick you are etc has no correlation to gender as we’re having another baby girl.

I didn’t have a preference on gender but I’m absolutely over the moon to be adding to the girl gang 💗

Vinted is amazing! I got some great evening/party dresses there for £3-5 each, would have been at least £60 in Seraphine but what’s the point if I’m only going to wear them once?! And some bundles of sleep suits and babygrows, again perfect condition and just a few pounds, they are so cute and tiny! 😍

PS thinking of you today @Lillers!

mrsbgb · 20/04/2024 09:11

@rupertbear91 @Decaffe I’m a dinosaur that’s only just discovered Vinted but I’ve lost my mind over tiny baby clothes. Trying to be sensible as I know there’s a strong chance he won’t fit in newborn/1-3m for THAT long but I’m blaming hormones 😂

This might be a dumb question but this is my first child, no siblings/cousins with children and not many of my friends have had children yet - what do babies actually wear day to day?! I feel like what I’m looking at are more little outfits but not sure what a September baby actually needs to start with?!

HRP1990 · 20/04/2024 09:23

@Emmaev I feel exactly as you described, I’m 99% sure we’re having a boy as I feel so different to how I felt with my daughter.. so I’ll be interested to find out at the scan next week!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 20/04/2024 09:31

@rupertbear91 I think I'm addicted to it 🙈 I brought 13 sleepsuits off there yesterday I need my phone taking off me 😂 I also said I'd wait until after the 20 week NHS scan

@mrsbgb a bodysuit with a sleepsuit ! I didn't really dress DS in outfits until he was a few months old - unless it was a special occasion. I found they are comfiest and easiest in sleepsuits - he used to go through at least 4 sleepsuits a day he just loved to throw up on himself 😂

@Lillers thinking of you today hope the scan gives you some reassurance 💖

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 20/04/2024 09:35

Thought I'd add to the bump pics! 18 weeks today for me. I seemed to have a bigger bump at this point with DS!

I feel like when I look down at my stomach I feel much bigger than what I look like when I take a pic 😂 I looked back on my 40 week pregnant pic with DS and realised how much more growing I have to come 😂

cd24x · 20/04/2024 09:38

@mrsbgb with DS the first few weeks he was mainly in sleepsuits with vests underneath. For both day and night. We would only put him in little outfits if we knew we were going out somewhere, or if people had bought them for him and we were seeing them. For me, the first couple of weeks were like a constant duvet day - just putting on fresh pyjamas in rotation. DS was a May baby, so as we got the warmer weather, we'd put him in little rompers too. Although probably no good for September babies!

Xur · 20/04/2024 09:52

@mrsbgb I spoke about this with my friend two days ago. She said to disregard what internet says about X amount of this and that and to just purchase mainly overalls with mittens+hats. She said the anti scratch mittens don’t stay on very well, they fall off and she advised to focus on the ones with a mitten pocket in the romper. Like in the picture. This example I think is without a pocket, just closed sleeves, but there’s also sleepers with pockets when you can take the little palm out if baby gets warm or for other reasons.

@Lillers good luck Lillers you are in my thoughts today!💗

Definitely sleepsuits for the first few months, I feel there’s no point in anything else. Specially with having autumn babies. My DD was sick and poo’d all the time. So cute outfits were quickly ruined.

I absolutely love Vinted, Zara, h&m, m&s and next are my favs for babies. I love a good bundle too.

longingtobe23 · 20/04/2024 11:55

I’ve gone mental on vinted some all new with tags! It’s incredible!
i feel I’m done now to be honest in terms of clothes! I could just do with a few more little hats and undervests but I’m waiting to see what my sissy gives me as she’s got a 8 week old and it’s her last 🙈

I am so excited to start a nursery. I am 99% decided on it all. Just need to get cracking.

SC126 · 20/04/2024 12:05

I kept all my sons old clothes up to 6months old and sleeping bags ups to 18 months old in every tog 🤣 I didn't realise I kept so much tbh until we emptied the bags from the loft. As he was also a September baby everything is perfect for the season.
I agree sleepsuits and vests. The cute outfits are just difficult and impractical.

@longingtobe23 also excited to start the nursery. We chose some paint and we have my sons old nursery furniture still. But our 3rd bedroom is very small so won't fit much else in 🤣

Emmaev · 20/04/2024 12:19

My OH has decided now is the perfect time to paint the whole house, so DD is choosing her paint today for her room. Still no closer to buying anything for baby haha

Cinai · 20/04/2024 12:20

Maybe a silly question, but do you actually need a nursery room from birth? Our current layout is not ideal, we will move our kitchen in 2025 to create an additional bedroom, but for the first year of baby’s life, my only options are:

  • create a corner in the living room with play mat as our ‘baby zone’ - I think I’ll hang out in the living room with baby anyway, will breastfeed on our sofa and get a mat for the floor for changing baby.
  • refigure an utility room, but it isn’t the most cosy space, a bit cool because of door to garden and it has a boiler in a cupboard. (This space will become our kitchen in future, but we can’t do this in this year).

Baby will obviously sleep in cot next to us in our bedroom, so wouldn’t need to sleep in living room or with a boiler in the room.

Are there any essential nursery features / furniture I haven’t considered? I realise that I might be a naive first time mum 🤣
