@Decaffe I had MW on Friday at 17+2 and after going through advice on movements she told me to hop up on the bed and got the doppler out. I went in expecting it wouldn't happen. She did advise about baby potentially being too small to detect the heartbeat, but after a few mins it was found and all good. The only thing you can do is ask. If you go in expecting a no, then it'll be a nice surprise if MW says yes.

Decaffe · 15/04/2024 10:35

Yes, she told me a few weeks ago that they don’t do it in my area, but still, I’m going to try…! 😅

Congratulations @Khanga27! 🩷

Emmaev · 15/04/2024 10:50

Congratulations @Khanga27
makes me more excited for our 20 week scan tomorrow 😍

malimoon · 15/04/2024 11:32

I'm 16+4 but had an NHS scan today as I'd come up higher risk on my combined screening; it was close to the cutoff and I subsequently had a negative NIPT (i.e. all fine) but in my trust you automatically get an extra reassurance scan regardless. Anyway all looks good and we found out it's a boy! So that was exciting and now only a month until the 20 week scan which is nice

mrsbgb · 15/04/2024 12:08

@WinsandSam I’m having the same thing with the ongoing cramps - constantly wondering if everything is okay but I think I’m starting to feel baby move (it’s my first so difficult to know if it’s baby or just my stomach!).

Does anyone have any advice about getting in touch with your community midwife? She said she’d write down her details at our 16 week appointment, but forgot to. I asked our drs surgery (where the clinic was) but they don’t have her contact details, and the phone number I’ve been given by the hospital doesn’t work. Feeling at a loss as to who to ask next!

Khanga27 · 15/04/2024 13:24

@mrsbgb does your trust have a community midwives hub?

My trust uses the badger app, if yours does too, then if you use the side menu and click on Hospital Contacts, it shows contact numbers for community midwives team, horizon midwives, antenatal ward, postnatal ward, PAU, labour ward, maternity reception and the women’s health clinic. I also have my midwives mobile number there too.

Decaffe · 15/04/2024 15:09

My lovely midwife agreed to listen for the heartbeat 💓 She found it within three seconds(!) and I was able to take a recording. I think she agreed because I’m 17.5 weeks rather than just 16. It’s made my day!

HRP1990 · 15/04/2024 16:07

Aw yay @Decaffe glad you got to listen to the heartbeat! 🫶🏼 I’ll be 19 weeks for mine so hoping I’ll get to hear too 🤞🏻

mrsbgb · 15/04/2024 16:10

@Khanga27 I’ve just checked and unfortunately not! Called the hospital again and they’ve given me another midwife’s number, to ask if she has the details for mine… we’ll see how that goes! Congratulations on finding out you’re having a girl 💕

fleur89 · 15/04/2024 17:05

Any hacks for curbing sugar cravings? Specifically chocolate... 😬

TripleESept24 · 15/04/2024 17:25

Another bad day for me today in the office!! Still off my food, can only stomach very plain stuff buttered toast..... Really bad heartburn!

And feeling very achy lower back and side. Going straight home to a nice hot bath and bed 😪😪😪

WinsandSam · 15/04/2024 18:05

@mrsbgb yes I think it's all stretching and moving that's causing it. I'm not too concerned but do get the odd worry. I also think I'm starting to feel something- last few days it's felt like I'm being tickled inside my stomach with a feather 😂 no idea if that's what it is

Re midwife, in my area we can't contact ours. We have medicom which is like a call centre where they all work and triage calls. Not sure if you have that?

Xur · 15/04/2024 18:36

@fleur89 this bad boy!
How I have it:
take a standard 300ML cup, put 3 teaspoons of this in (overfilled teaspoon), add hot water and top it with some milk (same as you would for coffee or tea). Much less sugar or calories than eating actual chocolate, it ties up hunger +you get the good stuff from the milk-Calcium.
In a standard cup the ratio of liquids for me is I’d say 8/10 water & 2/10 milk.

WinsandSam · 15/04/2024 19:05

@fleur89 is say just eat the chocolate 🤪 but if you can't maybe try dark chocolate or a diabetic one??
If you like little moons mochi they do a chocolate one!

HRP1990 · 15/04/2024 19:22

@WinsandSam omg the little moons mochi are incredible!! I had the pistachio the other day and they were 🤌🏻. Shame they’re £5 a pop lol

WinsandSam · 15/04/2024 19:25

@HRP1990 I know! They're addictive 🤤 I always get them when on offer. Or get the Aldi dupes which are also nice!

Xur · 15/04/2024 20:34

I am the absolute opposite 😂 this Saturday past I I bought the Moons Mochi after a long time of not having them, I enjoyed the ice cream filling of course but the Mochi (the rice dough coating) itself is now a flop🤢 for me 😂

Hey guys, currently in A&E, been here for nearly 5 hours now.

I had a significant bleed at work today, called the midwife who told me I needed to go to A&E. After what felt like forever, seeing various people for different obs etc, I saw the gynae doctor who scanned me with the basic A&E scanner, and we saw heartbeat and baby wriggling around straight away - literally never been more relieved in my whole life. Then had a quite painful vaginal exam where they cleared some of the clotting and confirmed the cervix is closed. So I’m now on a drip and waiting for an anti-D injection, and will hopefully have a more detailed scan tomorrow to try to identify the cause of the bleeding.

So frightening. Even though I saw baby literally a couple of hours ago, I’m still terrified that something could go wrong. Fingers crossed I get this injection soon and can go home. And then hopefully I’ll get some answers from the scan tomorrow (if it happens).

WinsandSam · 15/04/2024 21:22

@Xur that's my favourite bit 😅 I'd just buy the rice wrapping and eat that for all 3 meals

WinsandSam · 15/04/2024 21:24

@Lillers my god, that sounds terrifying 😭 please try and rest and know you are in the right place. There's nothing more you can do but put your hands in the trust of the doctors. Ask all the questions! Hopefully it's nothing scary as know lots of people who have had bleeds. Knowing your cervix isn't open is also a good sign.

Thinking of you xx

Xur · 15/04/2024 21:28

EDIT:
sorry @Lillers I just read your post! I’m really sorry about the whole experience I can imagine it was the worst a couple of hours! To be honest as long as the baby’s heart is beating and the cervix’s is closed it’s a massive relief, but this mysterious bleed will probably send you into a spiral of paranoia for the foreseeable. If it’s any help my best friend bled through her whole pregnancy …for an unknown reason. That’s how she ended up discovering she’s pregnant, she had a weird bleed not when period was supposed to be and went to the doctors and found a baby. Her bleeding continued on and off for till like 25 weeks. They never figured exactly why. Her baby is now 2,5 months old and not letting her sleep at night.

Omg ladies! I don’t believe this! So my boy has been mega active today, I’m now laying in bed and I felt an array of movement and then….He chilled for a few minutes and began again, I lifted the blanket, stared at my belly and literally saw my belly move a bit on kick!! It was a very subtle movement but I could see it! How is it possible to get this so early on? 😲

Emmaev · 15/04/2024 21:35

@Lillers how absolutely awful. Glad you saw little one moving away though. And you are absolutely in the right place they’ll take good care of you.

I know bleeds can happen for a huge number of reasons doesn’t make it any less scary though. Hope they can give you some answers tomorrow. Thinking of you

Oh that's awful! that must be so so scary for you, I'm sorry you're going through this!
I'll be thinking of you and hoping everything turns out okay, fantastic news that bubba seems to be a-okay in there, but I hope you get answers soon! <3

rupertbear91 · 15/04/2024 21:43

Oh @Lillers how terrifying. Glad baby is still wriggling round in there. Hope they find the cause soon so you can get back home and rest

longingtobe23 · 15/04/2024 21:52

@Lillers so sorry what a scare - sending so much love I hope this is all over for you soon and you’re back home resting with little bump ❤️ take care
