My friend gave me some really good advice regarding the bottles. She advised to not buy too many of the same type because babies have preferences. Some of these popular bottles come with caps/suckers? How do you call the tip of the bottle that resembles a nipple? They are different types with different flow. She said if a baby doesn’t like a certain type he will just refuse to drink from it. So long story short, do not invest in too many the same before the baby arrives and gives the baby verdict on the babies preferences.

I've had a bad day today.

Made us brunch avocodo and eggs on toast, and I just wasn't enjoying it felt a bit nauseous and only managed half. And my appetite has really been back second trimester!!

I then went back to bed this afternoon and slept for a few hours because I've got constant pain in my lower back and right side, I feel really stiff and not very agile! Is anyone else having this on and off? It's not every day but 2/3 times a week.

It's making me feel a bit anxious and also my bump feels like it's gone a bit smaller this weekend anyone else ever thought that?

currently soaking in the bath and going to get an early night!! 😪

Oh and I'm 18+2

YellowZ · 14/04/2024 19:10

@TripleESept24 yeah I think bump size can be bigger or smaller from day to day to begin with...I remember thinking this with my 1st and have thought it with this pregnancy too. Once it got to be a bigger bump with my son (28wks +), the varying from day to day thing went away.

Lillers · 14/04/2024 20:19

@TripleESept24 When I looked down at my bump in the shower earlier it looked wonky, like it was slightly over to my left. Looked at it again when I got changed this evening and it looks dead central, so I assume they can change in shape and size depending on all sorts of factors.

Guys one of my best friends is also pregnant, and is nearly 37 weeks. Up until now we’ve both been talking about our babies as some vague future entity - she’s now been told she might need to go in for a caesarean this week and it’s made it all very real! An actual baby?! Is that really what we’re having in a few short months?!

@Lillers I noticed this in the bath yesterday! I’m not sure if the baby is still too small, but I thought maybe it was a bum lol or the baby laying in a different position to normal as the difference between left and right was considerable!

PoppingUp · 14/04/2024 20:26

@TripleESept24 I'm 18 weeks today and have had a really similar few days - a sore back and wee bits of cramping- particularly on the right side. It has meant a restless couple of nights of sleep too. They're not symptoms I've had much of up until now so I've had my moments on and off of feeling a bit nervous but mostly I'm assuming there must be a bit of a baby growth spurt going on!

I think the wee beans are due to add about a third to their size again over the next couple of weeks so fingers crossed we'll both get a bit of a break from the aches and pains soon and that we'll have nicely popped bumps to show for it by the time the 20 week scans roll around!

Today has also been the first day that I've felt more confident that some of the sensations I'm feeling are baby movement, so that has been a lovely end to the weekend ☺️

WinsandSam · 14/04/2024 20:38

@TripleESept24 I've been suffering with mild sciatic pains for a few weeks now. Not every day but it's annoying!
I'm also having cramps the last few nights, feels like period pains again. Had them A LOT at the beginning but they went away. It's scary as it makes you wonder what's going on.
I find my bump is small when I wake up, I lie in bed and question if I'm actually pregnant. The second I eat or drink I expand and am about 3 times the size at night due to IBS bloating (IBS and pregnancy do not get on.)

FuppinNora · 14/04/2024 20:41

@TripleESept24 yes I am feeling very stiff some days, I haven't really being monitoring it but I think it is when I do a lot of walking the day before.
My bump goes from being pregnant to looking like I've overindulged. I presume it is to do with bloat, food consumed that day and toilet habits!

I Have felt baby since last night, no mistaken it. I'm 19 + 1. I drank a can of regular coke yesterday (never usually but craved something fizzy) and baby responded 'pop pop pop' when I lay down. A bit relieved. Don't lose hope ladies, it'll come!

rupertbear91 · 14/04/2024 20:48

@TripleESept24 I'm the same with my lower back/pelvis I have seen a physio a few times and she has given me walking exercises to do in the swimming pool to build up my strength so I'm going to attempt them without looking too stupid tomorrow for the first time

@WinsandSam I feel you ibs and pregnancy isn't the best combination! I have also been too sick to take my probiotics which help and apparently you can't take buscopan whilst pregnant which was my go to relief

longingtobe23 · 14/04/2024 21:00

Woah I am behind but I’ve made huge strides this weekend and it sounds like a lot of you have as well… I think I’ve picked car seat and base, bedside cot, furniture set, wallpaper, carpet, paint colours… high chair and bouncer

and I may or may not something left for an Artipoppe 👀🤞🏻

I have decided I will try and combi feed this time after 1/2 months (see how I feel) because I EBF for a year first time and I’d like a few hours of freedom if I possibly could!

To answer a few questions I saw; I don’t think I’ll invest yet of course BUT I hear good things about Baby Brezza prep machine for bottles and Nuby Rapidcool ! So I got the latter as it was tonnes cheaper and NHS approved according to packaging 😂

feeling more positive and sickness is going down, But I am carting around the gaviscon already and I’m gutted nearly 18weeks but surely I don’t need to be chugging it so soon 😩

MudandMoet · 14/04/2024 21:33

Hi Ladies, just catching up.

Two pints of coke out last night must've made missy wake up because I'm sure I finally got a few flutters again early hours of this morning 🥳 I think you were right @Honeyandsunshine1 @Xur I think she's turned around and the flutters are nowhere near the front of my tummy now and (not sure quite how to explain it) more like she's around the top of my vag canal for want of a better explanation. Not as strong as before but I'll take it over 3 days of nothing!

Sorry some of you are struggling with aches and pains and indy. I've stocked up on gaviscon and orange rennies because I know it'll come.

TripleESept24 · 14/04/2024 21:43

Thanks everyone who also has back/side pain!!!!!! Sounds like it's normal and a growth spurt!! And maybe because I'm off my food a bit bump feels a bit smaller and normally it's a bit of food bloat too!! Lol

Emmaev · 14/04/2024 21:57

My whole body has been aching this pregnancy, definitely feeling every stretch this time. I swear with DD I just sailed right through (until she arrived early) even rolling over in the bed takes all my energy, I’m also forever waking up on my back so I need to invest in a pillow for sure.

I can’t even believe I’m 20 weeks tomorrow and we’re half way through. In the early days I never thought we’d get here. Still massively surreal.

Lillers · 14/04/2024 22:06

@Emmaev Even with my pillow I still keep waking up on my back, just cuddling my pillow across my chest like a teddy bear 😂

Xur · 14/04/2024 22:09

@MudandMoet sounds about right, when I had first kicks after silence it was on the left side way lower, more closer to my groin than to my belly button. And also it was milder indeed, but it went back to normal strength.

Decaffe · 15/04/2024 07:12

Off for my 16 week midwife appointment today (at 17w4d). Do you think if I promise not to worry if she can’t find a heartbeat as I can feel him moving most days, I might be able to convince her to get the Doppler out?! I find it such a shame that different Trusts have different policies.

I’d love to know this also lol, let me know how you get on, mine is on Wednesday!

Decaffe · 15/04/2024 08:42

I’m gonna try my hardest 😂

Emmaev · 15/04/2024 09:14

@Decaffe my mw whipped out the Doppler without me even asking. I went in with the knowledge that she probably wouldn’t check so was happily surprised.

I think it should be a personal informed choice about whether to listen with the Doppler at 16 weeks. If you go in fully knowing perhaps baby is too small and to not panic if a heartbeat isn’t heard. Although my mw said to me if she didn’t hear a heartbeat she would have sent me straight to triage. Although she found baby straight away. Plus you’re a little further along than I was by about a week.

Fingers crossed she’ll listen in, definitely offers reassurance during a long stretch of 12-20 weeks

Emmaev · 15/04/2024 09:17

I’m 20 weeks today, seems absolutely crazy to me that there’s a fully formed baby in my belly. Finally 20 week scan tomorrow too, such a mixture of nerves and excitement. Although baby has been kicking up a storm all morning, some really hard kicks today

Xur · 15/04/2024 09:30

My Friend gave me her fetal doppler which is like a simple one from Amazon for £15.00 and it works. I have no experience with this but I can find the heartbeat on my own. If NHS does not want to do it might be worth just for our own peace of mind to get one of them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

rupertbear91 · 15/04/2024 09:44

My midwife said she would only listen to the heartbeat at my 16 week appointment if I assured her I wouldn't panic if she didn't find it. We had only had our gender scan 4 days before so i was ok with that but she actually found it straight away

WinsandSam · 15/04/2024 10:01

@rupertbear91 yes the probiotics are the only thing that I think might help a little. Such a shame about buscopan! It's so painful at times and I feel like I can't breathe as soon as I squashed. Dread to think what I'll feel like at 6 months plus 😳

Khanga27 · 15/04/2024 10:29

Hi all. Had our 20 week scan this morning. Found out we are having a girl. And we have a very stubborn missy making it awkward for measurements so took a bit longer and involved me getting up jumping about to try get her to roll over etc 😂
