I love this chat, I’m getting so much good advice from this chat. I didn’t even know travel cots existed.
thanks @HRP1990 ☺️

@rupertbear91 thank you, I will speak to my doctor next week about the vaccine.

I had mine immediately after my 16 week appt. They have a weekly walk-in cljnic in the hospital and it just so happened to be the day I had my appointment, so I just went to a different floor and got it after I saw my midwife. All was well, just a sore arm but no temp or feeling shite or anything

Happylittlebump · 13/04/2024 23:08

Thank you for all your comments about the vaccines, It's sounds like I may get asked about it next week at my appointment with my midwife, or at my 20 week scan. I agree with @Xur I am also getting so much good advice on here, thank you.

Emmaev · 13/04/2024 23:09

I’ll be getting my whooping cough vaccine at my next mw appointment which will be 25 weeks. Seems so crazy to think that far ahead, but then I think to myself well it’s only 5 weeks. Time is flying.

Still haven’t bought a single thing, I said to wait until the 20 week scan just because I want to know everything is ok.

Absolutely with Muslins though, I loved them for my daughter, she still uses hers as a comfort now to sleep 7 years on, very tatty but she wouldn’t be without it

Happylittlebump · 13/04/2024 23:12

@Emmaev we have not bought anything yet either, we are also waiting until after the 20 week scan. We got some paint tester pots to test colours on a wall and that's it so far.

LSW82 · 14/04/2024 07:36

We waited until after the 20 wk scan to buy anything last time too, will do the same this time but luckily won't have all the big purchases again as still have everything from my son. It is exciting when the shopping starts

WinsandSam · 14/04/2024 07:44

I'm getting lots of advice from this chat too! Thanks,
Like others I am waiting until after 20 week scan to buy anything. It's my first so I literally have nothing 😳 but have made a huge list!

HRP1990 · 14/04/2024 07:52

Another one who hasn’t bought anything yet - my 20 week scan is in 10 days so I’m going to wait too. I do have quite abit in the loft from my daughter already though. The only thing I’ve looked into so far is a double buggy but we’ll buy this nearer time I think due to having nowhere to store it 🙈

YellowZ · 14/04/2024 08:18

We have a low bed because DP likes them, but it's also convenient for DS to get into at 5am and I'm not worried about him rolling out because it's not far to the floor. So I'm not sure what to do about bed options... I don't think there's a way to get the baby next to us without putting a bassinet on the floor, which I'm not keen on as it might be drafty. So they might have to be higher than us in a next to me with the sides up. P

If anyone knows of any cots that are really low that would be great! I wonder if a fancy travel cot might be the answer...

rupertbear91 · 14/04/2024 08:35

We got a bit over excited after our gender scan and did some baby shopping. They did a full check of all the organs in the same scan and everything looked good so hoping it still all is at 20 weeks.

We got our pram/travel system from a shop that does refundable deposits and we just have to call up and pay the full amount nearer the time and they deliver it the next day so we don't have to store anything.
Also ordered his nursery wallpaper too! Feel like we still have a huge list of things we need although my partners brother is giving us a next to me cot so that's one less thing we need!

MrsM89 · 14/04/2024 10:43

@YellowZ how low is a low bed? Some of the next to me ones have 11 height settings.

I've not bought anything and am so unfercided on what I'm buying new and what I'm using from before. X

TripleESept24 · 14/04/2024 11:48

We have bought loads 🤣🙈 bedside crib, cot, wardrobe, bath, changing mat, clothes!!

Having to get absolutely everything so getting bits when I see them on offer and getting bits every month. Pram will be last thing......

YellowZ · 14/04/2024 11:57

@MrsM89 it's 38cm, but with the added complication of a bar at the base that runs along the floor so we couldn't fit any cot feet under the bed. I'm wondering about a snuzpod maybe 🤔

MrsM89 · 14/04/2024 12:01

@YellowZ chicco next2me go low I'm sure and the feet fold in so can go flat. It works next to divan with no gap under. X

YellowZ · 14/04/2024 12:06

@MrsM89 oh interesting, I'll have a look. Thank you ☺️ we had a tutti bambini last time which was nice, but have a new bed since then

If I remember correctly, next to me cots (some of them) are height adjustable. So for some, you should be able to lower it to the bed hopefully

WolfMother326 · 14/04/2024 12:42

@YellowZ we used a snooze pod with my first and it was brilliant. Our bed has a solid base (it's a storage bed) so couldnt slide legs under. It was so handy and will be using it again.

Xur · 14/04/2024 14:11

@rupertbear91 oooh I love exploring wallpapers!! What’s it with? 🤩

So we are going cream paint on 3 walls and then this paper on the main wall. My partner grew up on a farm so liked the farm theme nursery idea but I was desperate for some of my horse loving influence to be in there too so it was a good compromise!

Has anyone looked into uv sterilisation machine? I breastfed first but think I'll either use formula or pump this time.

I’ve heard of them but never used one before. We used mam bottles originally that can be sterilised in the microwave for 3 mins, so we’ll probably do that again.

Xur · 14/04/2024 16:28

@rupertbear91 oh it’s very creative! I’ve not seen a country themed nursery before, and to be honest I don’t even like the typical cliche. I think it’s a lovely idea and the colourway is nice aswell!

We had a chat about these in John Lewis the other day, they look very fancy but take the same amount of time as a microwave steriliser it seems (we were looking at the tommee tippee one), and once you open the steriliser they don’t remain sterile. They’re very expensive so I think we’re going to use self sterilising bottles or a microwave steriliser!

Martibum · 14/04/2024 16:43

@mrsbgb @HRP1990 I breastfed my first but I still had a little nuk plug in steriliser and after every use I would need to do a vinegar rinse since our water is hard and limey! I seen someone local selling a 2nd hand UV machine but I don't know anyone that used one. I thought it might be one less thing to clean out.
I had mam bottles but never got to use them. I think I'll need 16 bottles a day at the start so I dunno, I think I'll probably have a few different ways on the go 😂

YellowZ · 14/04/2024 17:24
