Pregnancy after loss support

Hi ladies, I've recently found out I'm pregnant again after 2 losses in a row. I'm very lucky to have a DS and I had another MC before I had him. So 3 losses in total. I'm only 4+4, but got faint positive 11 days ago at 9dpo and it feels like I've been pregnant for aaaages but time is moving so slowly. We've booked an early scan when I'll be 8 weeks exactly so waiting it out until then, and hoping nothing happens in between. I wondered if anyone else is in a similar position and wanted to share this early journey with me. I've decided not to tell anyone this time round, a lot of my close friends are dealing with newborns or their own ivf journeys and I don't want to add any load to anyone. But it feels like a huge load to me so would love to share with someone!

@Figtree11 I'm absolutely gutted for you. Its so unfair you have to go through this again and that you had got your hopes up too. I'm so sorry. I really hope the d@c is straightforward for you :( please be kind to yourself during this time xxx

I have my 9 week scan Saturday and the dread is building. Sickness lessened etc. I just can't believe it's been a month since my positive test and I still have to live with this horrendous uncertainty. My 12 week scan isn't til 14 weeks so I have 5 weeks after this scan to wait to get there, which seems way too long for me. Why have they booked me so late? :(

Wise0wl · 01/05/2024 08:15

@Figtree11 thinking of you today ❤️

@MOGMOGMOG85 I’m also around 9 weeks and my symptoms have lessened, can you ask if you can move your 12 week scan? Even on the week it might be worth calling for cancellations. I’m right at the point when my two MMCs happened so am feeling very anxious about it all, it’s tough isn’t it. Sending love

IDontDrinkTea · 01/05/2024 09:20

@MOGMOGMOG85 are you planning on having the screening for downs / Edwards / patau’s screening at your 12 week scan? Because if you are, you can only have that if you’re under 14+1 weeks, so I’d ring and ask them to bring it forward so you don’t miss out on your screening test.

Morning all.

Just had a scan at EPU as arranged by my midwife and baby is measuring about a week behind - so 5w 3d instead of 6w 3d. But there was a tiny heartbeat but unable to measure it as its so small.

Have to say it's not put my mind at rest at all.

Sat now waiting to speak to someone else about the pregnancy, progesterone etc etc..

Good morning xx sorry your scan wasn’t reassuring. Is there a chance your dates could be out by a week? X

OnNaturesCourse · 01/05/2024 09:44

I wouldn't think so as we only DTD twice that month, and I took MAP... I don't know if I've maybe just had delayed implantation?

MOGMOGMOG85 · 01/05/2024 10:06

@OnNaturesCourse I'm so sorry that is the last thing you need right now. From my experience my son dated to a time that was literally impossible, I would have still been bleeding, so I don't set too much stock on when they say the dates are. But I'm so sorry that it has been the opposite of reassuring for you. Are there any services you can access whilst you wait? I've just today thought I'm going to ask to access my workplace counselling scheme. I'm 8+4 and this pregnancy already feels like it's taken a whole lifetime and taken a big toll on my happiness. The only thing keeping me sane is knowing we all feel the same because my husband doesn't get it at all. "Be patient" he says which tbh is pissing me off and I may call him at lunch and explain why. Its like he has no patience with me any more. He was so supportive when conceiving my son but now I feel like he is annoyed with me that I'm not fine.

@IDontDrinkTea I may mention that at my booking in appointment. I don't want to miss that and last time they moved my date forward 10 days....

Figtree11 · 01/05/2024 10:45

Thank you so much for all your kind words & support. Waiting to find out what time I’ll go down to theatre. I’m going to step away from this thread now. But thank you all so much for how supportive you have been over the last couple of months. Wishing you all the best of luck that you continue with healthy pregnancies

H20202 · 01/05/2024 11:07

@Figtree11 big hugs today xxxx

@MOGMOGMOG85 definitely contact midwives and ask for that 14w scan to be brought earlier, I’ve seen a few posters do this and is definitely acceptable after loss. Xx

Hopingrae · 01/05/2024 13:15

@Figtree11 I hope today goes as well as it can, take care of yourself, I'll be thinking of you xxx

Ladies - what is everyone's experiences with progesterone?

Wise0wl · 01/05/2024 14:56

@OnNaturesCourse I’m on progesterone, I was advised by my GP to start taking it from positive test (had some left over from my last pregnancy which resulted in MMC), and to continue taking it until 13 weeks if the pregnancy continues to progress. Sorry to hear your measurements don’t align with your dates, I’ve always been told that it’s hard for the measurements to be accurate so early because everything is so small. Have you been offered progesterone?

OnNaturesCourse · 01/05/2024 15:10

Yes, to insert twice a day until 16 weeks (as I lost my DD at this gestation.)

I have done some reading and I wonder if my measurements were maybe not accurate as it was a very early scan and done as a abdominal one. I read seeing a HB at 5w 3d on a abdominal scan is rare, it's usually closer to 6 and half weeks it can be seen?

If I remember correctly my previous three pregnancies were all no HB on abdominal scansuntil past 6 and half weeks. (but my 2nd and 3rd showed on a internal scan around 5ish weeks)

Wise0wl · 01/05/2024 15:14

@OnNaturesCourse I think every EPU is different, I’ve never had an early abdominal scan and only had internal ones (they said I can have internal ones up to 10 weeks because in my last two pregnancies they identified my MMC by not being able to see enough on an abdominal scan and having to switch to an internal scan which I’ve found very stressful.) but you may well be right, it’s had to see something so small accurately

OnNaturesCourse · 01/05/2024 17:46

@Wise0wl sorry about those experiences. I had never given a thought to how scans would be nowadays but I could hear my heart in my own ears I was that anxious today.

Mamaxo · 01/05/2024 18:22

Super random but is anyone having any trouble with there teeth? I never normally do but now I'm in agony with tooth pain (not ache) and red gums 😭

Hopingrae · 01/05/2024 20:48

@Mamaxo yes, my gums bleed a lot more in pregnancy, it's a thing apparently. My dentist said it's really important to try and floss daily as pregnant women can be more prone to gum problems. You have my sympathies, it's horrible x

OP posts:
Hopingrae · 01/05/2024 20:49

@Mamaxo also don't forgot we get free dental care if you have a maternity exemption cert from midwife, could you make an appointment for a check up?

I wanted to jump on and say OMG YES!!!

All 3 of my pregnancies ive had trouble with my teeth, to the point where theyve been so weak theyve broken!!!

I didnt know whether that was normal or not and never heard anyone mention anything about their teeth during pregnancy!

OnNaturesCourse · 02/05/2024 08:26

Yes to the oral issues - I've lost a tooth for nearly every pregnancy 😭

Did anyone have bowel issues on progesterone pessaries? For me it's not been pleasant since last night with terrible gas and green poo, and has upped my nausea and upper stomach pain greatly. Waiting on GP calling me back..

Anxious30Something · 02/05/2024 09:08

@LER2023 my midwife mentioned this at my 8 week booking appt. Baby takes calcium from you which affects your teeth, hence the free dental while pregnant and a year after. She warned to look out for bleeding gums and sensitive teeth 👍🏻

I had the worst constipation I've ever had while I was on the progesterone. Thankfully didn't last too long and was able to manage it with diet but the pessaries definitely affects your gut/bowl. Hope your GP is able to help.

I feel quite lucky the teeth thing has never been much of an issue for me but definitely recommend contacting dentist to anyone struggling. As others have said, it's a known thing hence free dental care at this time. X

Thats fine but theres nowhere taking nhs patients for like 2 years now🙃
Especially since covid, they havent exactly bounced back, so i cant even get my teeth sorted!
So when i get pregnant i have horrific toothache and nowhere to go without paying over the odds for private dental care that really its not something i can actually afford.

I have 3 broken teeth with the root still attached and need multiple fillings!🫠x

Mamaxo · 02/05/2024 13:25

I can't get a dentist either atm 🙃 I'm hoping the red gums and teeth pain don't get any worse because paying private is insane prices 😭
