@sashastuck @Bims2019 i have just gone for the one that is closest, which may not be the best way to approach but itโ€™s across the road so will save me so much time!

Otherwise check ofsted, the one weโ€™ve picked is โ€˜goodโ€™. Also check if things like nappies, wipes are included or if you have to provide your own. They also have outdoor space which I like and try to get the kids out everyday.

I just got a good feeling when I went round - all the kids seemed happy, but it felt super surreal and odd considering I donโ€™t even have a bump, but we got all the days I want for Jan 2025.

Salamander91 · 04/07/2023 17:31

Thanks for the new thread. I wondered why the old one had gone quiet ๐Ÿ˜‚

sashastuck · 04/07/2023 17:35

@Mushroo great advice, thank you. Do you have to pay a deposit upfront? Only because I have no idea yet about which days etc. I guess Iโ€™d go for 5 and then pull out of some if thatโ€™s possible?

Bims2019 · 04/07/2023 17:40

Thanks @Mushroo, that's really helpful. I'll get some visits sorted! There's one a few minutes walk away which would be ideal, hopefully it gives a good impression and I'll check the Ofsted rating.

@sashastuck I'm in the same position, not sure about days yet so am hoping to be able to opt for all and then drop them once I've worked out what's possible.

Mushroo · 04/07/2023 17:41

@sashastuck it was just ยฃ100. Iโ€™m the same - Iโ€™ve put my name down for 4 days even though we only want three, but you can confirm 3 months before they start so itโ€™s not fixed. Better to go for more than you think as easier to drop them!

WitcheryDivine · 04/07/2023 17:42

My 20 week scan if we get there is booked for 22nd August when I'll also be 20+6. Seems ages away but it isn't really.

Hummusanddipdip · 04/07/2023 17:54

Ooooh good shout on nursery! Although dh and I are yet to discuss (we've mentioned) if we want this one to go to the one ds is currently at, which is close to work for me. Or if we'll send the one attached to ds school, which we know nothing of... although one the women I work with, her daughters are at the one attached to school and she takes about it... so we will see.

We knew ds name from the off, it was the only boys name we could agree on and we could never agree on a girls name. Haven't even started thinking names this time, although I'd quite like an S name (really sad but I'm A, dh is G and ds is M all of those letters are the same distance as is S in the alphabet) we only know middle name which is funnily enough Louise because it is, mine, my mum, sil and mils middle name, so it's a nice nod to all the women, ds has fil and my dad's name (same name) as his middle name.

Loving today's scans!!!! Especially the 2 with their hands up ๐Ÿฅฐ

suz2285 · 04/07/2023 17:56

@Mushroo I can't believe you have to put your name in that early! Did they just put down baby mushroo? I can't imagine going in with not even a bump and putting my name down! Did you call them to go and visit?

Mushroo · 04/07/2023 18:01

@suz2285 yup ๐Ÿ˜‚ Sheโ€™s down as โ€˜TBC surnameโ€™

My friend with her second went to put her name down at 16 weeks and some days had already gone so just figured Iโ€™d be insanely organised as we definitely need a nursery space.

I called the nursery and was like โ€˜itโ€™s probably too early, but just want to check when to put names downโ€™ and they told me to come in asap.
Itโ€™s mad!

Kalodin · 04/07/2023 18:11

Yeah we are securing a place after 12 week scan, can't come bloody quick enough. Really nervous about not getting a place.

Was fine with previous DSs but Nursery have advised me places are being secured now ahead of the free hours of childcare that Government announced.

I'm putting down "unknown" as the name.

suz2285 · 04/07/2023 18:18

@Mushroo that is mad! I may have to make some calls ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ crazy!

Def think it's because of the free hours for sure! There's not enough spaces for everyone I don't think!

Mummyme87 · 04/07/2023 18:24

@Vikki7 we do anomaly scans between 21-23wks but thatโ€™s because we have a big FMU service. If you donโ€™t and they find anything that needs another opinion it all gets delayed

FirstT1meMum · 04/07/2023 18:26

@Flossiepot we weren't going to have an early gender scan as we're going away and I wasn't suppose to be 16 weeks until the day we went haha and said it wasn't worth paying when we got back and would just wait but now they changed my dates, the first thing DH did was book a gender scan for when I'll be 16+2, he's so excited to find out bless him! Crazy to think that's only three weeks today!!!! ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿ˜ณ

The only names DH and I have discussed is girl names - I seem to really struggle with boys names! I don't think being a teacher helps and there's so many names he suggests and straight away I'm like no, not a chance! ๐Ÿคฃ

Also just mentioned what has been discussed about the nursery with DH and he looked at me like I was crazy! Will definitely be looking into the nurseries local to us now!

TunnocksTCake · 04/07/2023 18:42

I would go and look around the ones closest to your home/ work and maybe put name down at 2. Also hold ALL the days, you can drop them closer to the time. I didn't get to look round last time because DD was a lockdown baby but got really lucky with the place we found.

Dannic2018 · 04/07/2023 19:50

Iโ€™ve caved and booked a gender scan for the 22nd as we are down south visiting friends where we used to live and they have savings on so cost ยฃ40 instead of ยฃ70! I just need to know ha! And 15th of August feels a lifetime away!

Flossiepot · 04/07/2023 20:06

Thanks all for the heads up on nurseries, definitely looking in to those now. It's working out better for us cost wise if I was to drop down a day in work but not sure how the boss would take that. Anyone had to have this sort of convo or have any advice on when this would need to come up?

TunnocksTCake · 04/07/2023 20:25

@Flossiepot almost everyone I know put in requests to go down to part time either permanently or temporarily after their babies, and it was all done in the months before returning to work. Most were granted. It made no sense for me to do more than 3 days financially due to high cost of nursery but that may not be an issue if the govt do what they promised...!

thsv · 04/07/2023 20:50

Hi all,

I had my dating scan yesterday at 12+6. All well with baby, measuring average and wriggling lots, screening results all good! We were at the end of the day and when they gave us the bloods results they told us Iโ€™d been screened as higher chance of developing pre eclampsia and to start taking 150mg aspirin. No more information than that! The letter just said my chance was higher than 1/100, no more detail. Felt really rushed for what was quite alarming news, and higher than 1/100 - what does that even mean? 1/2? 1/99??

Iโ€™ve got normal BMI, Iโ€™m 33, no family history, my blood pressure was normal as were HCG and PAPP-A. The only thing I can see thatโ€™s raised is the pressure in one of my uterine arteries - one is average, one is about 95th percentile. Iโ€™ve since learned other trusts donโ€™t even measure this til 20 weeks. Anyone have any experience of this?

Lilothblos · 04/07/2023 21:06

@TunnocksTCake thatโ€™s terrifying I canโ€™t believe theyโ€™re booked that far ahead! I enquired with one yesterday and they said theyโ€™re taking reservations for September 2024, but now I think Iโ€™d better get a wiggle on in case there are others that are already booked up for Jan near me!

Noodle89 · 04/07/2023 21:12

TunnocksTCake · 04/07/2023 16:34

@Noodle89 same due date!

Yay! I'm hoping to last till January but I've already had 3 c-sections so I have to have another this time round too so might be looking closer to new year or even Xmas ๐Ÿ™ˆ it's also the 3rd due date I've been given so far so might change again at next scan ๐Ÿ˜…

Noodle89 · 04/07/2023 21:17

@PartRadish and @sashastuck it would be lovely if it was a girl but after 3 boys I'm betting on another!๐Ÿฉต ๐Ÿ˜…

LittleAlien24 · 04/07/2023 21:32

@Noodle89 @Onedayatatime24 im guessing girl for both of you

ItsAJourney · 04/07/2023 21:38

@TunnocksTCake Oh wow, thatโ€™s crazy! I have no idea how weโ€™re even going to play it in 2025 yet or what work will allow in terms of flexible working hours. How did you work it? Reserve 5 days and then release the ones you donโ€™t need nearer the time?

@Sunflowerfields23 Ahh, pleased thereโ€™s another one of us near the end of the month as most seem to be so far ahead of us. My EDD is currently 30th Jan so 12 week scan isnโ€™t until 19th July albeit I have a private scan booked for this Thursday when Iโ€™m having the NIPT.

Onedayatatime24 · 04/07/2023 21:56

All this talk of nurseries is mental! Didn't even cross my mind that we'd have to look this early ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

I'm thinking I might go back to work 4 days and use accrued holiday to book off every Friday for the first 5/6 months so I get full pay. Has anyone done this before or thinking anything similar? Obviously no idea if work would allow me to do this but seems a sensible way to use the extra holiday up, I've got to take it at some point I guess?

Mummyme87 · 05/07/2023 06:36

Iโ€™ve never used a nursery previously, always childminder and after my second we had a nanny for 2yrs. Needing someone to do school drop offs and pick ups for other kids whilst having a child at home all day adds a different dimension ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
