Does anyone know who rings you with regards to your NIPT results? Is it the hospital you had it done with it the company itself? I had the blood test last week and had a missed call from the hospital at half past four but they left no message. I'm telling myself that if it had been urgent they'd have left a number to ring back on and at that time surely they would have rang earlier?

I don't know I'm just trying myself up in knots about the results now and thinking the absolute worst 😪. Why do they do this to us? They tell us not to get stressed and lo and behold they stress us out by leaving missed calls!

Saturnsmoon · 18/04/2023 22:25

@cruciverbalista @monsteramunch @NSx @Koalawhala @Alexandra07 thanks ladies! We told my PILs last night and it was really nice. I thought they were going to say ‘We knew it’ but they didn’t and were just so pleased. Waiting to tell my mum on Saturday when we see her in person, then we will slowly start telling others too.

Saturnsmoon · 18/04/2023 22:30

@Phoenixwings1989 I can only share my experience of receiving calls about the NIPt which we had done with a private clinic. Unfortunately I had to receive those calls four times because we had three unsuccessful test (very rare so wouldn’t worry about that) but each time they were unsuccessful they left a message asking me to call back urgently whereas when I got my low risk results back I got a call without a message so based on that I would say that no message probably means all is ok/no urgent follow up required. Good luck, I know the waiting is horribly stressful.

Does anybody have their gender scans coming up this week? Mine’s on Saturday and I’m so excited!

Not doing a gender reveal or anything but we’re going to get the sonographer to write it down for us, then I think my partner and I are going to take the dog on a walk and open it together somewhere pretty! Unless anyone has any other ideas of something private and special we could do?

Just to warn you, most sonographers will tell you but won't write down the sex. Fingers crossed yours will but you might want a back up plan!

Alexandra07 · 18/04/2023 23:08

@VanillaOat I would try to have a video of the reaction if possible! Opening it this way seems very special!

EMcG3 · 19/04/2023 06:32

@Phoenixwings1989 - for me, I heard from the regular midwife on the combined test then the foetal medicine unit for CVS results. Foetal medicine did say they would contact us regardless of whether the news was good or bad.

I have everything crossed for you; it is not a nice time.

Phoenixwings1989 · 19/04/2023 07:25

Thank you @Saturnsmoon and @EMcG3 for your responses.

I'm thinking hospital will probably try to ring again today if they rang yesterday so we'll see.

I'm full of worry at the minute. It's going to sound crazy but for the past two weeks I've felt baby move quite a bit (second pregnancy and from what I've read from other people's experiences it's possible to feel movement earlier than your first) With DD movement started from fourteen to fifteen weeks which is earlier than the estimated 16 weeks, I know. For the past two days it seems to have dwindled slightly. I am seeing midwife at lunchtime for bloods as hospital didn't get them when I went for my 12 week scan, so will likely discuss this with her but I'm preparing myself to be told it's just gas or it's not possible. I am familiar with what a baby feels like so pretty sure I can tell the difference between the two.

I don't know. It's possible I'm overthinking but something doesn't feel right to me.

VanillaOat · 19/04/2023 08:06

@redavocado that’s really strange! I wonder why they’re not happy to write it down? How would people go about it if they wanted to arrange for a surprise balloon or cake etc?

@Alexandra07 I’m going to try! My other half is quite camera shy so hopefully I can persuade him as I’d really like to have it on camera 😂

I agree it's odd. I think it's so there's no written record in case they're wrong! The gender reveal is primarily a US thing so I think over here couples must know in advance.

I do find it amazing how maternity practices vary from place to place! DP is from the US and they have far more prohibited foods during pregnancy. No sandwich meats for example. So weird!

Summer022 · 19/04/2023 08:42

Anyone else not even have a sniff of a bump yet? I’m 13 weeks tomorrow and haven’t even got a slight bloat 😟 I’m not sure what the norm is to ‘pop’ but I hope it’s not an indicator of something being wrong. I also definitely can’t feel movements yet but would 13 weeks be too soon for that? I had a successful 12 week scan so I’m hoping baby is ok still xxx

MeganC104 · 19/04/2023 08:53

@Summer022 I didn't get a bump with my first until 20 weeks I don't think. Is it your first?

EMcG3 · 19/04/2023 09:16

@Summer022 - my boss is 16 weeks, healthy baby, no sniff of a bump, still wears regular clothes and is only starting to get a bit uncomfortable in trousers. I am 13 weeks and have had a bump since the beginning. It really varies a lot, not only person to person, but pregnancy to pregnancy and how many pregnancies you have.

Also, don't worry about not feeling your baby yet. Is is super, super, super early. Put the bar for normal in your mind around 17 or 18 weeks. People feeling earlier than that are lucky, but even people who don't feel it until 20 weeks doesn't mean there's a problem.

Summer022 · 19/04/2023 09:21

@MeganC104 Yep it’s my first. I read something online about lots of people having bumps super early on and got freaked out - note to self, stay off google 😆 I was also concerned as I haven’t felt any stretching growing pains in a while which have been consistent throughout xx

@EMcG3 That makes sense and is really reassuring thank you! It’s so hard to know what is considered ‘normal’ but you’re totally right, each pregnancy is individual and things will happen at different times. I think the wait from 12 week scan to 20 week scan is so long to be in the unknown kind of stage, if that makes sense. I need to just roll with it xx

blahblahblah1654 · 19/04/2023 09:40

@Summer022 with my first I didn't show until about 20 weeks. I'm 13 weeks now and look massive already, but I expect most of it's still bloating. Dread to think how big I'll be in a few months!

MeganC104 · 19/04/2023 09:41

@Summer022 yeh don't worry about that at all. I got my growing pains and bump (start of) at 20 weeks and didn't feel a kick until 23 weeks (anterior placenta). All normal.

This is my second and I definitely feel like I'm getting a bump a bit earlier this time.

Onethingiwantfor23 · 19/04/2023 10:32

My results have come back as 1/53 chance of DS. Off for further blood tests this afternoon to determine if it's likely/unlikely it'll have DS. Didn't expect pregnancy to be so anxiety inducing 😢

EMcG3 · 19/04/2023 10:42

@Onethingiwantfor23 - really sorry to hear this, it is very stressful. Do you know that Mumsnet has an antinatal testing board where many of the posters are in the same space of testing around the 12 week scan? I found it really helpful to have a community who knew about the available resources in that situation. If you are feeling confused or overwhelmed there is also a charity called ARC that focuses on antinatal testing and has a hotline that many people recommend.

1/53 are still great odds and particularly witt Downs there seems to be lota of false positives. You are very likely to come through this ok, but it is a tough time.

Onethingiwantfor23 · 19/04/2023 10:44

@EMcG3 Thank you, that's really helpful x

iloveeggs · 19/04/2023 10:59

@Summer022 I'm 13 weeks and don't feel I've any bump, just put on weight from eating and feel fat 😞

Koalawhala · 19/04/2023 11:26

That sounds really stressful @Onethingiwantfor23, but as other posters say 1/53 aren’t terrible odds and the likely hood of you being in the majority of no risk is very high. Fingers crossed you get the blood tests results quickly

overgrowngrass · 19/04/2023 14:55

@Koalawhala I’m consultant led and appointment not til 24 weeks. I was also really surprised how late it seems, was expecting it around 12 weeks for some reason.

@Summer022 I didn’t get a bump until 22 weeks with my first, this time I’m a whale 😂

We had a successful 12 week scan on Monday. Baby is crossing its legs which is so cute! I’m convinced I can see a penis, boyfriend thinks it’s the cord. What do you reckon?!

Oh and my boyfriend proposed in the evening after the scan, so now I’ve got even more to plan and think about 😂

Chanteuse · 19/04/2023 14:57

I’ve just been to the GP for my blood test and the nurse didn’t have a clue what I was talking about - turns out I’m supposed to be having these bloods in the hospital!! The hospital told me to book them through my GP! I’m mortified because I burst into tears in the gp. Just feel like nobody has a clue who I am and I’ve just been left fending for myself. I am going to ring the hospital again when I get home.

cruciverbalista · 19/04/2023 15:14

@overgrowngrass Omg congrats, I'm so easily brought to tears right now, this is so sweet 😭💕

@Chanteuse wtf! Honestly the system has been the root of most of my annoyance this whole journey so far! I'll take puking over having to ring round the houses any day, apparently!

lighthousechristmas · 19/04/2023 15:14

@overgrowngrass Congratulations!! 👰💍
