I think some hospitals seem to be struggling with fitting people in for scans due to the 3 bank holidays this month, at least that's what I was told.

I was referred for a growth scan on thursday last week, bump was measuring 30cm at almost 35 weeks up from 29cm 2 and a half weeks ago. I have my routine 36 week scan booked in next wednesday which my trust has only just started doing but my midwife told me it should be moved sooner and I'd get a call within a couple of days. Waited 5 days and nothing so I phoned them only to be told they couldn't fit me in before that.

I think it's really bad having to wait 2 weeks for a scan after a referral, I'd have assumed they'd keep some appointments for things like this. I've just been told to keep extra vigilant over his movements and to call at the first sign of them being reduced but it's been a week of stress and I still have another to go. Just keep trying to remind myself these measurements aren't exactly accurate. It doesn't help that baby goes through days of wriggling literally non stop all day and then will have a quiet day or 2 which seems normal for him as he's always been like that.

ireneadler101 · 25/05/2023 16:07

@firsttimelondonmummy Glad you are getting an extra scan but so annoying you have to wait. When I was in a similar position I booked a private scan at the Fetal Medicine Centre in London which helped put my mind at rest, might be worth considering if the wait is stressing you out?

Despite my baby dropping from 40th to 16th to 6th centiles on private scans, and 40th to 10th and maintaining at 10th on NHS ones, my consultant is being completely unhelpful and apart from booking me in for a c section at 38+3 has basically discharged me. Private consultant recommended a certain scan (blood flow to baby's brain) based on my history with last pregnancy and the fact that the baby is small again, but it's not done as standard at my NHS trust and consultant has said no (twice). Really stressful so I'm having to go and get the scan done privately tomorrow just to give me peace of mind.

These babies do test us don't they! But not long till they are here and this stress will be over 🤞☺️

Just got my GTT results from this morning - as I expected they are absolutely fine and no GD!

Baby girl is still breech though so I’m trying to get a plan from them, hopefully I’ll be able to chat at the clinic next week!

firsttimelondonmummy · 25/05/2023 16:48

@Belami @BobbySD345 @Ally1992 @Hlc86 @ireneadler101 thank you all so much for your kind and caring words, it means the world ❤️

He was 4lb 6oz which didn’t seem super small to me at 35 weeks being I was 5lb myself when born at 37 weeks.
I realised from his chart (attached) that he was never a huge baby either but they seemed really concerned at my last appointment as made me go for monitoring straight after.
Just wish they communicated better.

Trying to keep busy in the meantime to keep my mind off everything.

Hope you are all well!

@ireneadler101 sending positive vibes for your scan tomorrow.

@firsttimelondonmummy was thinking about you and how you were getting on. It sounds stressful, the uncertainty but hopefully it's nothing at all and just that you have small babies.

tigerlily0 · 25/05/2023 17:30

There have been quite a few birth announcements on the fb group- a lot are around 37 and 38 weeks. I'm 39+1 now and really doesn't feel like this baby wants to budge at all. I get tightenings but had them for weeks. Iv just been nesting/cleaning and eating yummy food and napping. Suppose I should enjoy it whilst I can.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 25/05/2023 17:47

No sign of baby here at 37 +3. Risking our weekend away, it's only 2 hours away from home.
I'll be fine, right? Right?
It's only until Monday.

BobbySD345 · 25/05/2023 17:52

@DrinkingAllTheGin Just take your hospital bags and the car seat with you incase maybe?

BobbySD345 · 25/05/2023 17:54

Sorry if this is a bit of a gross topic but is anyone else have plug-like discharge each time they wipe? It's just like clear or yellow but like jelly/egg white texture. Maybe a teaspoon a time. I know discharge generally increases towards the end but I feel like the consistency is weird and it might be part of the plug gradually coming away. The braxton hicks are next level today too, actually becoming quite uncomfortable ! I've probably overdone it though because I have been home alone with DS and he has had one on him all day, such hard work physically and emotionally.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 25/05/2023 17:55

@BobbySD345 I'm taking my hospital bag, but not the car seat, we are travelling with a friend as DH doesn't drive and I can't manage that far at the moment.

My parents would have to come fetch us and they can pick up the seat on the way.

ImHopeful2023 · 25/05/2023 18:31

Hey all 38 weeks and scan showing belly hasn't grown in two weeks so they think placenta might have stopped working properly so hoping to be induced today or tomorrow anyone go through this is in past? So worried

NalaNana · 25/05/2023 18:56

@BobbySD345 I noticed that in the week before I went into labour! It was similar to having EWCM again. I don't know if it was part of the plug, but it definitely signalled the beginning of the end for me x

PurBal · 25/05/2023 19:17

@BobbySD345 id put good money on it being your plug!

BobbySD345 · 25/05/2023 19:19

@NalaNana Thank you for your reply. I had to Google EWCM but yes it's like that but potentially a bit more like jelly. It's pretty gross. Did you have it and then go into natural labour the next week? I did have a small amount at the beginning of this month randomly but then the last 48 hours I've had it almost every time I go to the loo ... ! Both my parents have COVID so I need her to stay snug a while longer !

BobbySD345 · 25/05/2023 19:20

@PurBal eeeekkk!!!!

NalaNana · 25/05/2023 19:23

@BobbySD345 Yes I had it and then went into natural labour! When I lost my plug it was the same kind of jelly like consistency

justbelieve · 25/05/2023 21:33

@BobbySD345 I had a small amount of this yesterday when I wiped, but haven’t had any since so I’m not sure if it was just discharge for me! I’m 36 weeks today so I wonder if it’s too early for my mucus plug?

@firsttimelondonmummy thanks for sharing your update, I’d been thinking about how you were doing over the last few days. Hope all is well at your next appointment xx

C1umsyGiraffe · 26/05/2023 06:58

Trying to catch up with all the messages and hope everyone's doing okay!

We had our growth scan on Monday and she's back up to the 50th centile so they're no longer worried and happy to leave her cooking for a bit longer. Got another scan booked for 2 days before my due date just in case. My heads very much been in induction/c-section for the last couple weeks so trying to get back into natural, hypnobirthing head space.

@firsttimelondonmummy I'm sorry you're having to wait, it's the worst feeling of the unknown and not being able to plan! Hope you're okay xxx

hannahplym · 26/05/2023 08:17

Has anyone got any info surrounding inductions and gestational diabetes?

I was diagnosed with GD at 26 weeks (v borderline, fasting was 5.3 when needed to be 5.2). I've remained diet controlled so no need for medication. Very rarely have a high reading. I'm 38 weeks today.

At our last growth scan (36 weeks) baby was measuring 50th centile and average weight so no concerns. However, at the consultant appointment straight after, despite no concerns, she booked us in for an induction at 40+2.

At the time I wasn't prepared for this so didn't have the questions to ask so kind of just accepted it...but now I've had some time to think...if there are no concerns, why the need for induction? I would understand if baby was big or there were complications etc...

I am going to discuss with my midwife next week but just curious if anyone has any knowledge on this? I'd rather not be induced if there's no need!

justbelieve · 26/05/2023 10:02

@hannahplym I don’t have any knowledge on it, but maybe take a look at the NICE guidelines online as these are the standards of practice the NHS has to follow. It might state in there what’s recommended with a GD diagnosis x

HalWin2221 · 26/05/2023 10:43

@hannahplym i think it’s something to do with the placenta not being as affective in the last couple of weeks of pregnancy? I could be wrong though!

Ally1992 · 26/05/2023 11:51

@hannahplym i’m a type 1 diabetic and was induced at 37 weeks, @HalWin2221 is correct it’s because the placenta becomes less effective in the last few weeks

Ally1992 · 26/05/2023 11:57

@hannahplym also just to add my baby never measured big at any scans and was 6lbs 8oz, but when I had the injection to deliver the placenta it would not come out in one and they had to take it out piece by piece (sorry tmi)
I don’t know if it was caused by the diabetes but probably a good thing I was induced

firsttimelondonmummy · 26/05/2023 12:28

Thanks @justbelieve , @C1umsyGiraffe I’m just wishing the days away now.

I've got a presentation scan on Tuesday as baby is still transverse I will be 36+4 they said if she is still transverse they will look to admit me from 37 weeks then c section at 38-39 weeks, I really don't want to be in hospital for so long so I've got everything crossed she turns, I know I would be at risk of cord prolapse but dreading having to stay in hospital for potentially over 2 weeks 🙁
