@Ally1992 Congratulations ! Enjoy the newborn bubble. Please share his name whenever you feel ready 😍❤️

Is anyone else's baby transverse? After not really being given very good midwife led care I saw a new one today who was really thorough but I've now got a transverse baby at 35+ weeks and a 3rd GTT because my urine was positive for glucose. She took my BP 6 times as it was really high but it came down thankfully as I was almost heading for triage. And then I now have a growth scan because I've dropped on the chart. Oh and bloods to check my iron levels are maintaining on the iron tablets.

I made the mistake of googling transverse babies and now I'm freaking out.

NalaNana · 22/05/2023 13:50

Hi ladies! Gosh it's been a while since I interacted on these threads (maybe way back on thread two or three?!) but I thought I'd check in and say that our little girl was born on the 14 May at 37+4.

When I went into hospital at 7am I was assessed at 1-2cm (worst news ever as my contractions had really ramped up - I was having 3-4 in 10 minutes and they were far too painful to talk through!) and I was offered an induction (as my waters had gone) which I refused as I felt I was very much already in labour. I was taken to a room to "see what happens" for a few hours and given morphine. When they came in to check on me at 9:30am I was 10cm and ready to push! Half an hour later she was in my arms. It all happened so fast they didn't have time to set up the gas and air!

Overall it was about 36 hours from start to finish but the really painful bit was over fast and it was such a positive experience as a first time mum.

I used a tens machine during early labour when the contractions started to get more painful and found it really helpful, although once in established labour I turned it off as I found it more annoying than anything else!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Babybaby66 · 22/05/2023 14:27

Congratulations @NalaNana and @Ally1992 cant believe we have more babies now and it’s really nice to hear the birth stories, even if not all super positive. FTM here and it’s good to get a broad view! Hope you’re settling in well to newborn life

@Belami also 37 weeks and no bump drop either…also not really sure how you know if head is engaged. Is it something that you feel or something that someone tells you based on an exam?

Mistymeow · 22/05/2023 14:28

Congratulations @NalaNana and @Ally1992 !

@BobbySD345 Ive just had my 36 week scan and my baby is still transverse. My first was as well. They think I might have a “funny” shaped uterus that’s why my babies seem to settle happily in that odd position. The risk of cord prolapse is still very rare but now they are aware they will take good care of you. I’m thinking my consultant will admit me from 37 weeks but my c section is booked for 38 weeks anyway. They may see if they can turn your baby manually but they couldn’t do it with my first because of her position. I need a c section anyway for other reasons so it doesn’t change anything for me really as I’ve been through it before. They will take really good care of you and I hope you find this a little reassuring x

ImHopeful2023 · 22/05/2023 14:29

Congratulations @Ally1992 hope your and the little man are doing well

PurBal · 22/05/2023 14:37

@NalaNana congratulations on your little one, thanks for sharing your story too.

@Belami @Babybaby66 when the baby drops I think I became more prone to a waddle with DC1. Less likely to drop before labour with subsequent pregnancies. You know at your appointments they check for the head? They’ll put in your notes how many 5ths palpable you are. From Emma’s diary:
Fifths Palpable: How much that can still be felt ‘palpated’ is measured in fifths. This is measuring how far baby is in your pelvis, so how deep the presenting part of your baby is below the brim of your pelvis.
For example, 5/5 is the whole of baby’s head can be felt above your pelvis, so your baby isn’t in your pelvis, and can be also written as ‘free’

  • 4/5ths palpable = sitting on the pelvis brim
  • 3/5ths palpable = lower but the majority of baby’s head is still above the brim of your pelvis
  • 2/5ths palpable = most of baby’s head is in the pelvis
  • 1/5 ths palpable or 0/5ths palpable = deeply engaged.
Engagement tends to happen in the last weeks of pregnancy for first-time mums, but in subsequent pregnancies it can occur later or not until labour starts. It is not a good indicator of labour starting.

I have been 4/5 at my last two appointments but sometimes it feels lower (as in I can feel more pressure on my cervix), it’s common for them to pop in and out in second pregnancies apparently. 2/5 is “engaged”.

PurBal · 22/05/2023 14:39

Sorry, 3/5 is engaged.

NalaNana · 22/05/2023 14:59

On bump dropping and engagement - I never noticed my bump drop! In fact the day before she was born someone told me I hadn't "dropped" yet. A week before I had a midwife appointment and all 5 fifths of baby's head were felt so I was told she wasn't engaged at all. All that is to say, I don't think it's a perfect science x

Hlc86 · 22/05/2023 15:04

@BobbySD345 my little one keeps changing from transverse to breech, so is classed as unstable lie, I'm now 35 + 3 I have a midwife app next Tues to see if she has moved if not they said they would offer a Ecv which I'm going to refuse because I just know she will flip back, if that's the case they said I will be booked in for a c section at 38 weeks

Ally1992 · 22/05/2023 15:10

Thanks everyone I know it couldn’t be helped, think I also felt bad because I made him come out sooner than he would have liked even though it was medically advised.

UI have attached a picture of little man and we decided to call him Zachary. We’re hoping to go home soon after 4 long nights.

Hoping everyone else has their babies soon and I’m looking forward to hearing all of your birth stories 😊

@Ally1992 awww cutie!! You did it mama! Love Zachary too such a nice name x

Hlc86 · 22/05/2023 16:10

@Ally1992 he's gorgeous 😍

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 22/05/2023 16:42

Congrats on the babies born so far! So exciting it's getting near everyone's due dates.

DD2 is 7 weeks now. She was weighed today by a nurse and is 5lb 4! She's home with us now and feeding tube all out. Feeding from bottle great. So happy with her. She's already got her own little quirks, gets all excited when I put a bib on her for feeding haha.

tigerlily0 · 22/05/2023 17:31

@Ally1992 congratulations he's so adorable!! So sorry what you went through, it's really hard and can feel traumatic too. Hope u get home and some rest xx

@BellaTheDarkOverlord glad to hear everything is going well :)

toomanysausages · 22/05/2023 17:35

@Ally1992 aww, he's gorgeous! Love the name too. Lovely little boy :-)

@NalaNana congratulations! Did your waters break before the contractions or did it happen around the same they started? Also did you have period type pains before your waters broke?

Have been suffering with a bad back last few weeks but it's getting worse/more persistent. Rang GP who has given me stronger painkillers than the paracetamol I've been taking. Now wearing a supportive bump band, have a special cushion and booked in for some physio. Can anybody suggest anything else please? I'm hoping that the Codeiene works but I don't like the idea of taking lots of drugs whilst still pregnant as the dr said whatever I take the baby is taking too Sad Hardly any housework got done and I'm walking like the hunch back of Norte Dame...

Kelvie103 · 22/05/2023 18:34

@Ally1992 congratulations on your gorgeous little guy. His name is lovely too. Sorry to hear you had such a tough time giving birth but hope you can recover swiftly. He's here safe and well and you should be proud of yourself for that!

Congratulations to @NalaNana on the birth of your daughter too! It's so nice to hear of all the babies starting to be born.

Has anyone else been referred for a growth scan? Just wondering how long they take to contact you to book you in. My midwife sent me for one Thursday last week and told me they'd phone to arrange it but not heard anything yet and not sure what to do. I have my standard 36 week scan next week so if its any later there's not much point rearranging that although I was told they should bring that forward.

Hlc86 · 22/05/2023 18:49

@Kelvie103 I got phoned by the hospital the next day after the midwife reffered me and it was for the day after that at 7am I went for it, with our trust we don't get a standard 36 week scan unless it's to check on a under lying issue. Think I'm getting one at 36 weeks cause baby is still (little monkey), but if you are already booked in for one at 36 weeks they might just do the growth at the same time?

NalaNana · 22/05/2023 20:09

My contractions started on the evening of the 12 in my back (felt like spasms initially!). On the evening of the 13th when I got off the ball I felt a little gush of fluid - I was wearing a pad and it didn't seem like urine but it wasn't enough to leak through the pad. It happened again around 2am and then I lost my mucus plug! I wasn't convinced it was my waters as there was so little of it but they checked when we arrived at the hospital. When it came time to push the rest of the waters came out x

NalaNana · 22/05/2023 20:10

Sorry my post below is for @toomanysausages x

dresslol · 22/05/2023 20:39

Congratulations @Ally1992 what a gorgeous little boy, and congrats too to @NalaNana

HasHus86 · 22/05/2023 22:21

Huge congratulations to @Ally1992 and @NalaNana on your gorgeous babies! ♥️♥️ Not long to go for the rest of us now. I’m one of the last ones in this group, due on the 29th of June 🙈

Babybaby66 · 22/05/2023 23:14

Thanks @PurBal and all the other replies about engagement, that’s super interesting and helpful! I can’t see anything in my notes about it currently but let’s see what they say at my 38 week appointment next week!

Zaalfruit · 23/05/2023 06:09

Congratulations @NalaNana !! So exciting that you have had your baby. How are you feeling? How is baby doing ! ( Those lower back spasms are the worst - I thought my hip was cracking opening last time - kept telling husband can you hold my hips and push them together )

@Ally1992 what a cutie !! Hope you and baby are good .

It feels really real now that all the babies are coming .

@PurBal toddler is out for me , last night she kept waking up and her excuse was she needs water or her blanket is hot or more teddies . Husband and I have had the worst night. In the end We just took the blanket away and gave a water bottle as she was being so naughty . (Probably my fault I let her take a nap mid day - I just needed a rest and some peace and quiet , my toddler has afrids ( fear of food) so she’s been pulled out of nursery so it’s really hard )

@HasHus86 I am due on the 1st - you and I are on two ends of June . I bet my money my baby will be here before June ! How are you feeling?

Baby dropping - I didn’t even realise when it happened last time , I carried so low 😂😂

MrsP4 · 23/05/2023 07:57

Congratulations @Ally1992 He is beautiful! Thanks for sharing your story I think you done an amazing job! I have a sweep booked in for 8am tomorrow and induction on Thursday at 9am. Feeling a bit nervous about induction I'm not gonna lie but have been told it's the best and safest option for me and baby so of course I'm gonna go with that! I'm 38 Weeks tomorrow I feel like she's really low so interested to see how the sweep goes tomorrow x

Dewintergarden · 23/05/2023 09:13
