Congratulations @AstroH , what a beautiful baby boy!

I'm worried about being overdue and have been given the option of induction at 41 weeks or c-section at 41 weeks, but don't know what to do! Worried about baby getting distressed during induction, but also worried about the risks of c-section for me. Any advice ladies? I just know I don't want to go much beyond 41 weeks...

I think it's a very personal decision. Some people do well with inductions. I did not, nor did most of my friends who had them. My completely unscientific theory is that if your body is ready to give birth it's normally ok. If not.... it's not great. At 41 weeks you are likely going to give birth soon anyway so your body might be primed. What you really want to avoid is the long induction, then labour ending in emergency c section. Having gone down the induction route last time I am having an elective caesarean at 39 weeks to avoid all of that

tigerlily0 · 19/05/2023 19:10

@AstroH congratulations he's absolutely gorgeous! Hope ure healing well

Sweeps aren't too bed, I am the worst with anything down, can even use tampons cos the idea of it goes right through me but I remember me did mine and I just relaxed and breathed thru it and it wasn't even that bad. And trust me that's a lot coming from me!

I swear I'm in some kind of super early labour. 38+2 now and the pressure down on my bum is awful. Getting so many tightenings and just absolutely knackered. And yet iv just walked around ikea to get baby's chest of drawers cos we changed our mind. I must be mad.

Honestly don't know how I'm going to have energy to birth this baby, I'm feel effed every single day now. Don't know how I did it with my other 2 kids

Belami · 19/05/2023 20:26

@BobbySD345 @tigerlily0 thank you for mentioning that! It's good to hear not everyone finds them bad. Are the vaginal examinations similar in your experience?

@AstroH oh my goodness!! Massive congratulations, he's adorable 🥰 hope you're all doing well !

@DrinkingAllTheGin glad you and bubba are okay 💕

BobbySD345 · 19/05/2023 21:08

@tigerlily0 Just keep an eye on the frequency of any tightenings and if they become painful maybe go and get checked xx

BobbySD345 · 19/05/2023 21:10

@tigerlily0 Just read this is your 3rd baby. You know what to look out for !

Zaalfruit · 19/05/2023 21:37

@AstroH omg congratulations!! Welcome to earth little one!! How are you feeling ? Hope you are getting some rest . ( Anytime message here if you ever fancy a chat) Also the cutest little baba !

( Feeling overwhelmed now and it’s feels real - car seat ready, hospital bag packed today and just need to set the next to me up )

In terms of sterilisers what has everyone gone for ? I had a mam steriliser with my daughter but I sold it .

C1umsyGiraffe · 19/05/2023 21:38

Anyone else feeling really lonely this pregnancy? Friends I usually see regularly don't speak to me anymore and it's not for lack of trying! Just feeling a bit deflated tonight 😞

BobbySD345 · 19/05/2023 21:46

@Zaalfruit we went with a UV steriliser this time to try as it wound me up when the bottles etc were wet when they came out the steriliser each time. Think it's made by Nuby. It's a funny looking grey case almost looks like a vanity case ! Had great reviews and money off.

Random tip here but my friend recommended putting a shower puff or pouffe whatever they're called in the hospital bag. She's spot on that you can feel a bit icky and sickly/faint or sore and not able to stand too long and they lather the shower gel up you can have a proper scrub in half the time. I got one today from Home Bargains for 49p.

@C1umsyGiraffe sorry to hear this. Please don't feel down about things. I'm sure they will get back in contact soon. In the meantime, this group is great for a natter and have you looked into the Peanut app for when the baby is here?

Is anyone else on Iron and if so have you been given anything to counter the bloating and constipation. I remember with my 1st they made me have a pessary as my bowels were too full and it basically meant I went constantly until he was out which was unpleasant for all involved and super embarrassing for me. I'm worried the same is going to happen this time as its days on end with no movement at the minute due to the iron tablets. Sorry if TMI...

C1umsyGiraffe · 19/05/2023 21:49

@Zaalfruit we've gone for the Milton cold water steriliser, just seemed easiest for us!

@BobbySD345 thank you 💛 I really hope so! This group definitely helps! I've got the peanut app but I'm not too active on it, will try give it another go!

Zaalfruit · 20/05/2023 04:35

@C1umsyGiraffe sorry to hear that you are feeing lonely . Hopefully you will reconnect again. As bobbysd said peanut is a great app - I have found others who have one daughter and are also pregnant so we always compare notes and concerns and bitch about husbands. A lot of my friends aren’t pregnant- don’t plan to , or just aren’t in that stage of life so they find it a yawn .

( So I have the Milton steriliser but my toddler didn’t take to well to it - she hated the smell and started refusing the bottle so was advised by the Hv at that time to use an alternative)

@BobbySD345 Ooh I have seen the nuby uv steriliser - I hate drying bottles and pump parts . Maybe I will get that one - I wonder if the rapid cool is compatible.
Also I’m on iron tablets and the constipation is real however - I have started a diet of figs, dates and (Lactulose and movical from the doctors ) and it has helped so much . I have also been prescribed fybrogel but the taste made me heave. ( A combination of these have made me gassy - in my last pregnancy I pushed so hard that I got a rectal prolapse( tmi) and I refuse for those stitches to burst because I’m constipated)

MrsP4 · 20/05/2023 05:27

Hi all sorry I know I've not posted in a long time life's just been crazy busy! Hope everyone's doing well I seen someone had they're little one super early I think it was you@BellaTheDarkOverlord hope everything is ok snd baby's doing well. Tried to have a little glance and catch up on other threads.
Not long left now for all of us less time for me than I thought, my little one is measuring small and only on the 9th Centile so I'm being induced next week at 38 weeks and being consultant led. Very different experience this time around last time my pregnancy and labour was so text book and this one's been a little madam from the start! So hoping this time next week I'll have a little newborn in my arms 💜

Hoppyhops · 20/05/2023 06:43

Hello,
I haven’t posted for a while either but I’ve been trying to keep up with things. Congratulations on your beautiful baby @AstroH - he’s adorable!

It feels very real seeing everyone discussing birth, hospital visits etc. I hope those of you being monitored are OK and feeling reassured by the health professionals- I don’t think I’ve ever been through anything as anxiety inducing as pregnancy so I can’t imagine how stressful it must be, but I’m sure your babies are perfect and there’s some great advice and reassurance in this thread.

I’m 34+6 and feeling rather heavy now. I’m a teacher so I’m on my feet all day and find the pressure on my pelvis and back awful as the day goes on. I have one more week until half term though and then start maternity on the following Sunday, so just 5 more days to get through! I still need to pack a bag and buy a few things but I have no energy left so I’m hoping I can get that sorted as soon as I’ve stopped working.

The nice thing that I’ll miss is how bloody lovely my classes have been - they constantly run around to help me, they’ve bought gifts for the baby and one normally very challenging girl keeps bringing me sweets to ‘get me through’. They get a bad rep but teenagers are so lovely and they’re much more thoughtful than I ever was at their age, so the future looks bright for our little ones!

Ally1992 · 20/05/2023 06:48

Congratulations @AstroH he’s beautiful!

To update there is still no baby here, they took the pessary out about 3.30pm yesterday. They checked my cervix and said I am 1-2cm dilated so can have my waters broken but there is a waiting list and I am looking at 36 hours due to staff shortness! After the pessary came out the contractions lessened and I have managed to get a good nights sleep which is the only plus as I think it would been a lot for my body to take moving on to the next stage.

I saw someone said they were worried about having a stretch and sweep, when I was examined yesterday it was very uncomfortable but due to where my cervix was positioned, I was then offered gas and air which helped and she asked if she could do a stretch and sweep at the same time and it wasn’t that bad. I’m not sure if they could do this at normal midwife appointments? They said I will have gas and air for any further examinations now as well, I actually found them worse than the contractions!

Hopefully I will know when I can have my waters broken today, I knew it could be a long process but not quite this long and part of me wonders if I should of gone for a c section.

BobbySD345 · 20/05/2023 07:51

@Zaalfruit I was hesitant to ask for lactulose or movicol as they can have a bad opposite effect can't they but maybe if i got the dosage right, they would be helpful. My Son has been on both and is on a maintenance dose of movicol as he has had bowel issues since he was born.
Maybe I need to start on the dates and figs...

It's quite a big case the nuby one so maybe the flask would also fit. That's a good point actually as we are also on about getting a couple of the flasks if baby is formula fed because they look like a godsend !

BobbySD345 · 20/05/2023 07:59

@Ally1992 Thank you for keeping us posted and hopefully you're doing OK. Are you finding it quite boring and uncomfortable? Have they got you in a side room? Hope the food is OK!

The thing that worries me about induction is how long it would take as I've got a 3 year old at home and I'd miss him terribly. I'm sure he could visit but it's not the same. I also have OCD and am a control freak so the idea of DH running the house without me just sends shivers down my spine. He's so messy and disorganised and I can't have a thing out of place or a surface un-wiped or hoovered throughout the day. We are polar opposites. That would really test my mental health. Sounds ridiculous but it's just part of me.

Is there anything you would recommend packing for induction? I guess snacks and a book. Is there WiFi good enough for watching iPlayer etc?

Hope there's some movement for you soon x

tigerlily0 · 20/05/2023 08:10

@BobbySD345 can you not have something else for iron? I buy feroglobin capsules and Theyr really good, no constipation side effects at all. Also, try the movicol and lactulose, gradually build the dose to what works for you. U can't really overdose on it.

Ally1992 · 20/05/2023 08:15

@BobbySD345 I wasn’t bored yesterday as I was just trying to sleep in between the cramping, might be boring today as the pain has worn off but they don’t mind you going off for a walk etc.

I definitely recommend packing ear plugs and more spare clothes/underwear than you would think, I’m in my own room and my partner has stayed the last 2 nights but is going home this morning to try and get some sleep and is taking my dirty clothes home for washing/bringing more clean clothes back.

Food has been pretty good so far and no problems with the Wi-Fi, I downloaded some stuff on Netflix before I came though just in case.

Zaalfruit · 20/05/2023 10:47

@BobbySD345 I agree with @tigerlily0 slowly build up dosage for Lactulose and movical . That’s what I did . There was a point where I felt so constipated with the iron tablets I thought I was going to burst.

@Ally1992 I am so glad you are having a positive experience- literally it sucks when service is poor in hospitals . Hopefully not to long. Fingers crossed for you !

I wonder how many babies will be born on their due date - me and my husband have guessed baby girl will be born 28th or 29th May 😂

MrsFloraPoste · 20/05/2023 11:02

I was induced with my first due to lack of movements and placenta breaking down.
It didn’t work for me; I went in on the Wednesday and had the baby on the following Monday by emergency C section.

On the day it started there were four of us being induced. Three had their babies in the next 24 hours. Mine was just stubborn I suppose.
I had contractions but they always went away at night. I must have walked around the hospital grounds a dozen times! I never got more than 5cm dilated and had more than one stretch and sweep, and a nice firm doctor who did his level best to “get things going” with what felt like his whole fist. 😣 (plenty of gas and air deployed). By that point I didn’t care. Everyone says it, but you really don’t worry about the pain, you just want the baby out healthily and it’s incredible what our bodies can go through. Stronger than we think etc.

If anyone else is having an induction definitely take more clothes/snacks than you think you need in case you’re in for a long while.

This time around I’m booked for a c section in week 39 - not long to go!

MrsP4 · 20/05/2023 20:07

I've heard so many things about induction and you know what I completely get it! Your trying to get your body and baby to do something that it's not quite ready to do yet so it's kind of understandable. I'm booked in with MW at 8am weds morning for a sweep so I'm hoping that I'll have a full 24 hours for that to do something and then I'm booked in at the hosp the next morning at 9am to be induced but yeah the thing for me is not knowing how long I'll be away from DD going to miss her terribly. My mum is coming to stay so that's one good thing and one less thing to worry about. I had a sweet at 39 weeks with my daughter and it worked so fingers crossed it helps again, been feeling slot of pressure and just feel heavy so I'm hoping everything is going in the right direction at the minute. But thanks for the tips Weill defo pack some more bits I've got my bag, baby's bag, snack bag and a bag to leave in the car with all extra and spare stuff in xx

toomanysausages · 21/05/2023 08:32

@AstroH enormous congratulations! Beautiful little boy. Did you know what you were having before he arrived or was he a surprise?

@Ally1992 how are you feeling today? Have things moved along a bit?
