Hello everyone! I've got my 20 week scan on 27th April and so looking forward to it. I don't know if I have an anterior placenta, but haven't felt movements yet, so just a little anxious. I got to hear a clear heartbeat on the doppler at my 16 week midwife appointment, so I'm sure I'm worrying for no reason, as usual.

Has everyone told work now? I was going to tell my boss today at our 10 am one to one call (I work from home), but he's cancelled the call now. I was getting all worked up to tell him as really wanted it out of the way. I only talk to him once a week so don't really want to put it off for longer as I'm already 18+ now.

colourPink · 12/04/2023 16:13

@Tinkerbell098 I think anywhere between 18-24 weeks is normal to feel movement so I'm sure you'll start feeling something soon!

I told work a few weeks ago but only due to a promotion opening up (which I got) but will need very specific mat leave cover.

Lhdale · 12/04/2023 16:29

@Tinkerbell098 like @colourPink says, it’s v normal to not feel until 24 weeks.

im on holiday this week which has helped as it means frequent moments lying down very still whilst reading. I would never have noticed anything otherwise (and tbh still not sure it is movements)

Superunknown1 · 12/04/2023 19:40

@Lhdale Inyerresting to see you’re feeling movements! Do you mind me asking how many weeks you are? I’ve been feeling what feels like tiny pops quite low down (not in my bump but more above pubic bone I’d say?) and I’m about 16+4 first baby and sure I must be imagining it, had it the last 3ish days and doesn’t feel like wind or anything like that! What do yours feel like?

Lhdale · 13/04/2023 02:06

@Superunknown1 im sure that is movements! I’m 18+2. Mine are like muscle twitches but I’ve seen in MN some people describe it as muscle twitches and some as bubbles popping!

Mine feel like bubbles or internal tickles. I don't feel anything unless lying down doing very little.

Daisy155 · 14/04/2023 13:15

@FlicUK yes I have an anterior placenta found out really early and they always struggle to find the heart beat but as this is my third baby I can feel baby move, it’s like small soft flutters in stomach at the this stage and I had it in my last pregnancy as well, I didn’t feel the big movements like I did with my first baby.

My first wasn’t anterior and I could see all the movements and elbows etc, second one not so
much until third trimester when they are so big it’s inevitable to feel their movements.

I had my 16 week midwife appointment yesterday. All was fine except she tried to find the heartbeat with a Doppler and couldn't. She tried for about 20 minutes - got me to walk around, drink more water etc but nothing.

It was terrifying!

So, she sent me up to the DAU at the hospital and I was such a mess! Convinced something had gone horribly wrong! But then the midwife at the hospital found the heartbeat straight away with her Doppler. Phew! So, she said I didn't need a scan. It really threw me though.

I am so thankful/happy that we have our private scan tomorrow because I'm really feeling like I need the reassurance now.

Hope everyone else's appointments are far nicer! I've heard that not all county's even do the 16 week heartbeat?

Daisy155 · 14/04/2023 13:28

@colourPink so sorry you had to go through this same thing happened to me at the hospital in the day’s leading up to the 16 week appointment.

They had to use a portable scan but I could feel baby’s little tiny movements so that gave me hope otherwise I would have felt like how you felt!

That must have been so scary for you glad they were able to find the heartbeat seriously ♥️

@colourPink @Daisy155 I'm in Scotland and I never got to hear the heartbeat at my 16 week! X

Daisy155 · 15/04/2023 15:57

@RMS0209 yes I can imagine because at my 16 week appointment the midwife said the same thing it’s harder to hear that sometimes it’s not done, because of not heard I will have to go to the hospital for a scan.

@colourPink congratulations! We are also having a boy 💙

Superunknown1 · 15/04/2023 21:55

Hope you’re all well, congrats @colourPink and @RMS0209 on finding out you’re having boys! 😁

I met my midwife (I think?) yesterday, was hoping to hear a heartbeat but in my area you don’t get that until you’re 24 weeks unfortunately but felt good to ask a few questions!

colourPink · 15/04/2023 23:43

@RMS0209 congrats!! It's odd, I've always imagined myself as a girl mum. Not quite sure what to do with a boy (I'm the youngest of five girls) 🙊

@Superunknown1 I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing! Them trying to find it at 16 weeks only resulted in me panicking 🙊 it's too small!

FlicUK · 16/04/2023 09:23

At my 16 week appointment it also was hard to find the heartbeat and I got really anxious, she did eventually get it though by going right into my side!

@Daisy155 Thanks for the info and reassurance re. anterior placenta - my midwife asked me if I'd felt movements yet and I said no... it's hard waiting for it to happen.

Congrats on gender news, I found out at an extra scan @15 weeks it's a girl. Is anyone waiting until birth to find out?

Daisy0909 · 17/04/2023 09:16

Morning! Congrats to everyone finding out genders, how exciting!!

We're waiting on the NHS 20 week scan to find out so only a couple more weeks 🤞🏻

How's everyone feeling?

Tinkerbell098 · 17/04/2023 10:48

Morning ladies! Happy Monday! Congratulations to everyone who's had scans and found out gender, it is so exciting!

Does anyone know when we are meant to receive the MATB1 form? Work has requested this as part of formal notification for mat leave. Would it be given at the next midwife appointment, which for me isn't until June!

@Daisy0909 I'm having my 20w scan in just under 2 weeks to find out too. Can't wait!

Daisy0909 · 17/04/2023 11:09

@Tinkerbell098 I wondered this too, I think from what I've read you get it at your 25 week appointment but this cuts it a bit fine as I think my work want mine in on the 15th week before expected child birth which is the same week as midwife?!

Tinkerbell098 · 17/04/2023 11:43

@Daisy0909 yes it's the same for me. I think it's cutting it very fine. I was wondering if it's something that they'd be sending beforehand, but I'm not too sure.

MinBins · 17/04/2023 12:54

I think the Mat1B form you get from midwife at 20 weeks ish. There's a Gov.uk link but I got more confused.

This is the link @Tinkerbell098

www.gov.uk/government/publications/maternity-certificate-mat-b1-guidance-for-health-professionals/maternity-certificate-form-mat-b1-guidance-on-completion

We found the gender on our 16 week scan but are waiting for 20th to confirm. I'm so excited it's a girl 🤞🏼

MummyInBucks · 17/04/2023 13:19

I'm finally feeling a lot less nauseous, hopefully it sticks! I was getting really fed up of feeling sick so often.

My 16 week midwife appointment is this Friday, so I'm writing down a couple of questions to ask her, but mostly it's about this low PAPP-A thing. It feels like nothing much is happening for me until the 20 week scan and that isn't until May for me. We're really looking forward to finding out the gender then, and I think if baby doesn't cooperate we'll probably book a private appointment to find out, because we really want to know!

RMS0209 · 17/04/2023 13:30

@Tinkerbell098 Hi, I am in Scotland and my midwife said I will get my MAT1 be at my 24 week app at the same time as applying for my baby box. Hope that helps :)

ShellNor · 17/04/2023 14:15

My Midwife said Mat1 form is the appointment after the 20 week scan. My scan is this week and the appointmnet is early may. cant remember the date for that one at the moment. My employer was happy enough with that timing.

I think im starting to feel some movements now, but there isnt a lot (20 weeks now for me).

Super exciting for you all finding out the gender. Hubby and I are pretty set on waiting to find out.

TwigletFiend · 17/04/2023 14:15

My midwife has written 'Mat B1 issued for me on my timeline in my notes, at 28 week appointment. I have a previous child though so not on FTM pathway, so that's basically my next appointment after my 20 week scan!

Congratulations to those finding out gender, we are waiting for 20 week scan like @Daisy0909 and will go private if Spud doesn't cooperate then. My daughter is desperate to know which it is (so she can plan to leave home if it's a boy haha!). Judging by how awkward it was at 12 week scan and then for the Doppler at my 16 week appointment, I'm not anticipating any cooperation at 20 weeks.
