5 weeks today! Sep 23 Thread

Hi all, I found out I am expecting my second baby on Wednesday, and I'm 5 weeks today. Early days, but wanted to start a thread for those with similar due dates so we can go through the motions together. ☺️
I'm due 10th September. My little boy will be 2 and 3 quarters by then, so a good little age gap.

Any anxieties? For me, less so about the pregnancy this time around, far more chill. My anxiety is surrounding timing. Baby 2 wasn't planned for just now, but a happy surprise and very much wanted. However, the most instrumental career opportunity for me is coming up in the next 2-4 months or so, and I was hoping to get this role. It may or may not have come off anyway, but I don't want my pregnancy to be the determining factor (I don't think my company would outwardly discriminate, but they might find a 'business reason' I wasn't successful), so I ideally need to keep my pregnancy hidden from work for as long as possible. If I get the role, I will have no worries in taking Mat leave around August and return next year, as I know I'll do a damn good job for them once I'm back, and for the foreseeable future. Anyway... that's my one thing at the mo! ☺️

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

If anyone Is booking private early scans how much are you paying? The prices vary for 3 clinics I've checked.

£45, £60 or £80

The one I was going to book is £70.

PCOSunfortunately · 22/01/2023 20:17

Hiya, can I join please?
I need someone to tell as I've known for 10 days now and not told my partner yet plan to Saturday when it's his birthday! It's killing me! BFP 4th round of 100mg clomid. I'm 5 weeks pregnant and so anxious of miss carrying 😬

Hope you all have a happy healthy pregnancy ✨❤️

FarmBaby3 · 22/01/2023 20:35

Congratulations to everyone joining.

I've now worked 7 days in a row and I have another 5 from tomorrow. I'm already knackered but struggling so much with sleep. I need to get myself super organised with stuff in the morning so I'm not in a mad rush but also need to force the others in my house to pick up some slack.

Anyone else trying to reduce caffeine (fizzy juice for me) intake and struggling?

Maraudingmarauders · 22/01/2023 21:26

Congratulations@PCOSunfortunately that's wonderful news. How will your partner react do you think?
@FarmBaby3 that sounds so tough - do you normally work such intense shifts? You must be exhausted. Thankfully I gave up caffeine a few years ago so once less thing to give up!

Currently thinking how to host a burns night supper without eating haggis. Think im going to get a veggie one alongside the normal one and try not to weep as I eat it lol!

SFCM · 22/01/2023 21:36

@Bubblemachiene ours was an ‘early bundle’ so we’ve got two scans to use before 16 weeks and that was £139. We’ve only chosen this place for convenience as it’s just down the road so may not be best value.

@Summerwaves8 @mynewname25 Congratulations 🥳 lovely to hear from you! We are very similar due dates, I’m 26th Sept 🤗

@winningeasy I keep having really realistic dreams about passed on relatives visiting but it’s so clear I can remember it all when I wake up which is very unlike me. I googled it after the second one and although I got no info on mine I do remember reading that water is a common theme during pregnancy

SFCM · 22/01/2023 21:42

Sorry that last message took me so long to type I missed the new ones. Not leaving you out @PCOSunfortunately congrats!! 🥳

@FarmBaby3 I’m having a few decaf teas and 1 decaf coffee a day but wondering if I should still be more conservative with it. Everything online is so contradictory that I don’t know if even decaf is ok depending on where you read it 🤷🏻‍♀️

PPop · 22/01/2023 22:06

It's super strange but for the first time in nearly 2 weeks I have no cramping or pulling sensations! Now I'm worrying why they've stopped 🤦‍♀️😂

Bubblemachiene · 22/01/2023 22:33

I've cut down to one normal tea & 2 or 3 decaf teas
I hope that's OK, I usually drink tea all day long lol.

SFCM · 22/01/2023 23:04

@PPop mine has too. I did another test this morning to reassure myself (it’s becoming a bit of an expensive habit 😬) and then I read somewhere it can come in spurts throughout pregnancy depending on what’s happening at that time so that made me feel better!

@Bubblemachiene The info was really lacking but I did read that the average cup of decaf tea is 3-4mg of caffeine and the daily maximum is 200mg so I’m leaning more towards it’s ok because it’s so minimal. I type this as I sit here with a big mug of it 😂

PCOSunfortunately · 23/01/2023 06:46

@FarmBaby3 thanks! 🫶 I think there will be tears but shock to. We're going to a lodge this weekend with the dogs and the in laws so I don't think I can use hot tub and drink. I'll prob have a couple of buck fizz's or something 🙈 my birthdays next Tuesday to and supposed to be going out with my mates. I'm going to have to put my game face on 🫣

As for caffeine I've bought de caff coffee and put it in my normal jar of coffee so I don't get questioned just yet. mother in law is round ours all the time! I have just one coffee a day and I think my aversion is fizzy drinks turns my stomach thinking about them.

Have any of you made your doctors appointment yet?

I've also turned off notifications so sorry if I don't reply very quickly xxx

Bubblemachiene · 23/01/2023 06:49

Oh That's good @SFCM
I'm getting used to de caf now it's starting to taste the same.

@PCOSunfortunately I'm calling docs tomorrow as I'm working today. I will be 5+2 tomorrow
Anyone else called

FarmBaby3 · 23/01/2023 07:04

@PCOSunfortunately we don't call the doctors here, it's just a phone call to the midwife and they organise a booking in appointment for 9 weeks. Mine is on Wednesday next week.

@PPop mine disappeared and is now back with a vengeance.

@Maraudingmarauders not usual shifts. I usually do Monday to Friday however I do additional work for another type of work which is always on weekends. We have set holidays so I can't even take a wee AL day. It'll be fine. I just need to prioritise sleep.

mummmmyj · 23/01/2023 09:25

We don’t speak to Dr here, self referral also to midwife. Have my booking in and bloods mid Feb when I’ll be around 9 weeks.

winningeasy · 23/01/2023 09:33

Yes self referral here too. I was called back the next day by the home birth team (who are excellent around here thank god) and my pre booking appt is 8 wks and then got a letter that week confirming my 12 wk scan. I also have access to something called Badger Notes, which is where I did my questionnaire.
Definitely a lot more efficient than last time.
Have booked my first scan for 8 wks.

Already got some lower back ache ffs! X

Maraudingmarauders · 23/01/2023 09:49

It was self referral here too - though I phoned my GP initially and they have me the link. I had my booking in appointment at 7weeks (7+4) because I couldn't make the 9 week date and the only other appointment she had was at 11weeks and I also on holiday! So she squeezed me in the day after I phoned -so only 2 days after I found out I was pregnant. All been quite a rush, although now nothing to do but wait until 12 weeks.

I thought it would be a quick appointment, ended up being an hour and 4 vials of blood. I had to pretend at work that they'd been running really late, as they only expected me to be gone for half an hour or so.

I'm drinking decaf once or twice a day and ginger tea once a day. I'm not worried about the decaf levels, plenty of people drink normal cups once or twice a day so you can have a lot of decaf for that. The ginger tea soothes my stomach. I had some fizzy ginger ale last night which is terrible for sugar but definitely helped my queasy stomach.

The pulling and tugging and cramping is horrible. Everyone tells you about sickness but not the internal pains!

Milamight · 23/01/2023 10:36

Hi guys.
Im 8 weeks today and have been lurking nervously due to previous mmc. I had a pretty shocking experience about 10 days ago, where the epu scanned me and said 'its too early to see a heartbeat ' (even though we had seen one a few days prior), refused to check and stated if there was one they would have seen it, and gave me miscarriage leaflets. They refused to check again for heartbeat. I had a private scan 2 hours later and baby with heartbeat could clearly be seen. I have to go back for follow up at epu in the morning and I'm dreading it 😫 it was such a horrible experience and I really dont want to go back. They also missed a subchorionic hematoma and a second sac!

winningeasy · 23/01/2023 11:37

Yeah normal black tea doesn't have a lot of caffeine really, you'd have to drink like 10 cups to get to the quota.
I have 1-2 cups before 12 then the rest of time just herbal teas, all Pukka's teas are safe for pregnancy apart from their Motherkind which can only be drunk from 2nd trimester

Tinkerbell098 · 23/01/2023 11:43

@Milamight I'm appalled by how EPU is going about this. I really hope they're wrong and it's all positive news for you. Keeping everything crossed for you X

Milamight · 23/01/2023 11:44

Thank you. The private scan just after showed a lovely heartbeat so I'm hopeful its all still good 🙏

SFCM · 23/01/2023 12:10

I have only had the cramping and bloating so far, and this morning I had what I can only describe as a pulling sensation but it felt more like around my bladder and I could only wee a little bit. It eventually went and I was able to go (the relief 🤩) but just wondering if anyone else has had it effect their weeing?!

colourPink · 23/01/2023 12:46

Hey! Just found this thread.

Pregnant with baby number 1 after 16 months of TTC. I THINK I'm about 5+1 (but not 100% sure) and due end of sept.

Have a private scan booked in 2 weeks time so hopefully that'll help!

Feeling good so far but anxious. Told family and a couple of close friends but that is it.

I'm a secondary school teacher and unsure when I should tell work? Don't know if anyone has any advice?

Sending love to you all!

PCOSunfortunately · 23/01/2023 15:16

@colourPink same as me it took me 19 months to get this far along with clomid and metformin. Just feel like it won't last and it will be too good to be true considering I was two months away for being referred for IVF 😕🤷‍♀️

I don't have any advise about your job I'm afraid but wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy ✨ let us know how your private scan goes think I'm going to book in for one at 8 weeks (if I make it) I need to stop being so pessimistic I know 🙄😆

PCOSunfortunately · 23/01/2023 15:18

@Milamight so glad you got to see a heart beat sounds like a terrible ordeal but with a happy ending ❤️

I thought I would love having a positive test and I would be able to relax from all the ttc. Now I feel more anxious than ever 🫣

PPop · 23/01/2023 15:56

@PCOSunfortunately I get that it's terrifying!!! I am also a slight amount pessimistic... we must stop that! I just don't believe it's true! My sister has had two MC and one within the last month so I just fear it's going to happen to me...

Had my booking in appointment and apparently September is the busiest month for babies 😂 must be people over the Christmas break getting frisky! 😂

Milamight · 23/01/2023 16:08

I thought i would relax after a positive but i cant 😫 hopefully as weeks go by we will start to feel better about it! Dreading the morning but equally looking forward to getting it out of the way! Xx
