5 weeks today! Sep 23 Thread

Hi all, I found out I am expecting my second baby on Wednesday, and I'm 5 weeks today. Early days, but wanted to start a thread for those with similar due dates so we can go through the motions together. ☺️
I'm due 10th September. My little boy will be 2 and 3 quarters by then, so a good little age gap.

Any anxieties? For me, less so about the pregnancy this time around, far more chill. My anxiety is surrounding timing. Baby 2 wasn't planned for just now, but a happy surprise and very much wanted. However, the most instrumental career opportunity for me is coming up in the next 2-4 months or so, and I was hoping to get this role. It may or may not have come off anyway, but I don't want my pregnancy to be the determining factor (I don't think my company would outwardly discriminate, but they might find a 'business reason' I wasn't successful), so I ideally need to keep my pregnancy hidden from work for as long as possible. If I get the role, I will have no worries in taking Mat leave around August and return next year, as I know I'll do a damn good job for them once I'm back, and for the foreseeable future. Anyway... that's my one thing at the mo! ☺️

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

@suz2285 I was 8+3 at my scan and they could only see the sack from the external so don't be alarmed if that's all they can see. Have a full bladder and make sure you do a poo before you go, all helps them see stuff! X

suz2285 · 13/02/2023 11:28

@winningeasy I might just wait for the nhs scan tbh! I've read a few threads this morning and people saying a mix of external was fine and no they had to do internal! 😂

Daisy0909 · 13/02/2023 11:51

@suz2285 that's what I'm doing too! Don't get me wrong I'd love a private one just because I found out early & it feels like it's dragging but as long as I don't have any alarm bells i.e spotting/bad cramping then I think it will be nice to wait until the 12 week scan.

*Completely understand why so many have them though and if I'd had any previous complications I 100% would have the early scans for reassurance

Daisy0909 · 13/02/2023 12:27

... Weirdly enough my dating scan appointment just came through the post which is exciting! I'll be 10+6 but because of my PCOS my dates don't match up with theirs! The letter says you have to be at least 10 weeks so at least I'll be nearly 11!

suz2285 · 13/02/2023 14:42

@Daisy0909 I'm the same, no 'issues' as such just want to know what's going on 😂 and if there's only one!! Hubby says just to go and see and we can always go back, now he's all very laid back about the whole thing so if he's saying we should go then I think we'll just go!

Ooh that's exciting about your scan tho! My midwife appointment isn't for another 2 weeks today and then I'll be waiting for my scan after that

Daisy0909 · 13/02/2023 15:06

@suz2285 If you're hubby is telling you to go then go for it!

Yeah to be fair, I had my midwife appointment last week, they had me down as 9 weeks when I was 7+3, then I explained my cycles are longer so she put me down as 8 weeks that day instead.

Trying not to get too excited but it's hard!

PCOSunfortunately · 13/02/2023 17:38

Yes if you feel like you don't need one then I wouldn't bother. I feel like I'm the first out of my friends and family to get an early scan which I know about. I only got one because of being on fertility treatment I wanted to know if it was twins and the pains I wasn't sure if it was going to be just my luck it would be ectopic but obviously now it's just down to my golf ball ovaries xxx

Daisy0909 · 15/02/2023 16:22

Afternoon everyone, hope you're all doing ok 😊

I've been experiencing a lot of cramping pretty much since 5 weeks (midwife told me that's perfectly normal) but in the last couple of days I've noticed my stomach is just super super sore & tender

Is anyone else feeling this way or experienced before if they've had previous pregnancies?

I've googled a million times & I think it's from the uterus stretching? - This is my first ever pregnancy so that would make sense but it doesn't stop me from worrying!

winningeasy · 15/02/2023 16:42

@Daisy0909 definitely think I had more pains like that in my first pregnancy, it's pretty normal, try not to worry although that is hard I know

I'm so bloated! I've actually got a bump at 9 weeks

Daisy155 · 15/02/2023 16:53

@Daisy0909 it is definitely normal it is from the uterus stretching as long as you are not bleeding, or in too much pain then it is all very normal at this stage especially if it’s your first pregnancy!

I hope everyone is well sorry been missing, I have literally been feeling super rough and I have had a cold that won’t go away! A sore throat but thankfully no high temperature as of yet but I have woken up sweaty but I think it’s normal pregnancy symptom!

I feel exhausted I have just come back from a graduation and I just want to go into bed! I have a lesson to attend at 6 I feel so guilty for myself because I won’t be attending.

My friends mum at the graduation doesn’t know I am pregnant so she was asking me to go everywhere with her so we walked so much around the town centre to find flowers, some presents etc before the graduation!

I am so exhausted 🥱 I could sleep for days! The only good thing is I eat loads today which is so good considering I have been struggling to eat!

Daisy0909 · 15/02/2023 17:05

@winningeasy thank you you've definitely helped me put my mind at ease, it almost feels like I've done an abs workout if you know what I mean?
Ahhh yes the bloat, I can definitely relate!

@Daisy155 thank you! Yep definitely no bleeding although every time I go to the loo I anxiously stare at the tissue, roll on 2 weeks time for a scan!

Sorry to hear you've had a rough day, definitely get yourself into bed and rest and do not feel guilty for it! Glad you've had a better day with eating too!

colourPink · 15/02/2023 19:29

@Daisy0909 it's my first pregnancy too and I feel the exact same! I also keep being reassured that it's normal

Daisy0909 · 15/02/2023 20:00

@colourPink glad to hear you/others have been through it too! How far along are you? I'm 8+4 x

colourPink · 15/02/2023 20:05

@Daisy0909 well nhs are saying I'm 9+3 but private scan put me back to 7+3.

So basically 7-9 weeks haha. I'll know more once I've had the 12 week scan. This is when I realise I'm happy we are going off the nhs dates as it'll be sooner 🙊🤣

suz2285 · 15/02/2023 20:09

@Daisy0909 funny as I had a lot of cramping weeks 5-6 but hardly anything recently and today I've been a bit crampy so of course I've been a bit panicky!

@Daisy155 hope you're feeling better soon!

Daisy0909 · 16/02/2023 11:36

@colourPink interesting with the dates, do you have longer cycles/pcos?
Mine was similar, midwife had me down at 9 weeks when I went to my appointment but I knew roughly when we conceived and I'd put myself at 7+4. She pushed me back to 8 weeks and at my 12 week scan I'll be 10+6

Tinkerbell098 · 16/02/2023 14:20

I've just had the NHS letter come through for the 12 week scan. It's on 27th Feb, when I'll be 12+2. I didn't realise we had to pay for the scan pictures? Does anyone else's Trust does this? The letter says £10 for 2 or £18 for 4 pictures. I didn't expect that as even at EPU they gave me a picture for free.

Daisy0909 · 16/02/2023 14:49

@Tinkerbell098 I had heard you have to pay for NHS scans from others before but yes, my letter says 4.00 each or 3 for 10.00 (I'm based in Yorkshire) - Surprised the prices are different based on trusts!?

PCOSunfortunately · 16/02/2023 18:25

Pregnancy hormones are rife today I think! I cried at work because of the cunty sales manager. We're all so behind at work due to the hacking last week. I think I just felt so over whelmed and then he had ago at me! 🤬

winningeasy · 16/02/2023 19:59

Treated myself to massive Chinese takeaway tonight followed by a cornetto.
What lovely things are you doing for yourself mama?
You deserve to spoil yourself x

Raizelrea · 16/02/2023 20:30

Hi ladies, sorry I've been MIA lately, I just feel exhausted and nauseous all the time so unless I'm working I pretty much spend most of my time napping 😅I have my booking appointment on Monday - I know nothing particularly exciting happens there but I'm still looking forward to it as a milestone 😊

@Daisy0909 I had a lot of cramping between weeks 4-6, not so much now but I souldn't be surprised if it comes back - after all there's lots of stretching and growing going on down there. Apparently the uterus is a size of a lemon by 8 weeks. So I'm sure it's normal 😊

@Tinkerbell098 Oh that's interesting, I didn't realise they charged for the pictures either, I had an early scan through my feetility clinic and they gave us them for free too (because we were both derps and forgot to tbring phones to take photos 😆)

@PCOSunfortunately That's rubbish, we had a hacking at work a couple of years back and I do remember how stressful it was! I know it's not much of a consolation but it's only temporary, you will catch up again! Hope you're able to relax and treat yourself outside of work x

@winningeasy That sounds yummy, I'm a bit jealous you are able to eat that haha - all I could manage was a yogurt and a banana haha! I normally love Chinese takeaway as well but nothing sounds good at the minute.

suz2285 · 16/02/2023 20:58

@PCOSunfortunately that sucks, work is so tough esp with being exhausted and the extra hormones not to mention people being idiots! Hope you're ok

@winningeasy yum! Enjoy your Chinese! I had leftover pad Thai for lunch and i wasn't really looking forward to it but it was yum! Then cheesy sweet potatoes and veg for dinner mmm! Luckily I'm still enjoying the food when I'm not feeling nauseous 😂

@Tinkerbell098 I just googled and we appear to be free scan pics here but other places nearby are charging! So goodness knows! Also my hospital is one where they refuse to tell you the gender of the baby too, apparently there is signs on the wall saying don't bother asking!

colourPink · 16/02/2023 21:10

@Daisy0909 yes my cycles are longer 35 days on average.

Does everyone think cramping is still normal? Lots of people saying yes for the first few weeks but what about now? Just checking (like Daisy) that feeling the cramps for weeks now is normal

PBandJs · 16/02/2023 21:13

@PCOSunfortunately sorry to hear you had a rough day. I hope that silly man felt the wrath of those pregnancy hormones and thinks twice in future 🤣 hopefully you’re having a relaxing evening and some down time.

has anyone else been told to take aspirin from 12 weeks? I had my booking appt and they’ve said because my mum had pre-eclampsia I should take daily aspirin until 36 weeks. Wasn’t expecting that!

winningeasy · 16/02/2023 21:14

I seem to remember I had more cramps with my first pregnancy. But I haven't had many for last few weeks In this one

Maybe see what your mid wife said

Sometimes cysts can cause cramps - did anything show up on your scan?
