5 weeks today! Sep 23 Thread

Hi all, I found out I am expecting my second baby on Wednesday, and I'm 5 weeks today. Early days, but wanted to start a thread for those with similar due dates so we can go through the motions together. ☺️
I'm due 10th September. My little boy will be 2 and 3 quarters by then, so a good little age gap.

Any anxieties? For me, less so about the pregnancy this time around, far more chill. My anxiety is surrounding timing. Baby 2 wasn't planned for just now, but a happy surprise and very much wanted. However, the most instrumental career opportunity for me is coming up in the next 2-4 months or so, and I was hoping to get this role. It may or may not have come off anyway, but I don't want my pregnancy to be the determining factor (I don't think my company would outwardly discriminate, but they might find a 'business reason' I wasn't successful), so I ideally need to keep my pregnancy hidden from work for as long as possible. If I get the role, I will have no worries in taking Mat leave around August and return next year, as I know I'll do a damn good job for them once I'm back, and for the foreseeable future. Anyway... that's my one thing at the mo! ☺️

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

@FarmBaby3 yes it was internal. Thank you, it's all a bit confusing isn't it x

Purpleunicorn35 · 10/02/2023 08:24

I've just discovered that although tap water makes me nauseous, mineral water is completely fine. This is a game changer for me as I really haven't been drinking enough. Thought I'd share in case it helps anyone else :)

winningeasy · 10/02/2023 08:55

I agree with @FarmBaby3 - their measurements can be wildly out. A heart beat was seen and that's definitely reassuring. You could get bloods done and see how they are increasing over time for some extra reassurance?
Xx

Maraudingmarauders · 10/02/2023 12:03

@BebeSurprise I think our bodies are a bit of a mystery most of the time! Could you fet another scan in two weeks to check growth? I know it seems such a long time to wait..

@Purpleunicorn35 I'm so pleased you've fou down you can drink mineral water, what a relief!

I tried some travel bands yesterday.tl help with the nausea and I think they actually helped as I didn't feel too dreadful most of the day. I forgot to put them on this morning and I feel yucky! So definitely going to try and wear those more often.
My sense of smell is really starting to turn my stomach. My fridge still stinks (but not in reality) and I think it is the lettuce in there, of all things! It's fresh and crisp but I sniffed it and nearly heaved. Then this morning I thought I could smell dog poo everywhere, and I definitely checked and there isn't any (we have a dog) - it followed me into the car, but I checked my shoes and clothes etc. My dog is super clean anyway. DH said he couldn't smell anything either so I have no idea why that's happening. I've always had slight synesthesia, I smell rotting vegetables when I'm stressed, so it's obviously just an extension of that.

Daisy0909 · 10/02/2023 12:28

@Maraudingmarauders I'd like to blame the smell on our sense being heightened but honestly I'm the same, some of the things I can smell is ridiculous. I went into subway last night, it smelt a bit foisty (if that's how you spell it!) In there but it was fine.. got into my car and all I could taste was the smell I could smell?!? I'm the same with the fridge too, gag every time I go in and we have no meat, no cheese in there.. nothing that really would cause a smell!

suz2285 · 10/02/2023 13:01

@Maraudingmarauders lol a few weeks ago I got in my car and I could just smell dog everywhere; like it was blowing through the vents! We don't have a dog and the car hasn't had a dog in it! So weird!!

@Daisy0909 I def keep thinking I can smell damp/mould and dust everywhere but no one else can!

It's weird when I had covid I totally went off ketchup cos it was overwhelmingly vinegar! Just smelt awful, still don't really enjoy it now like 1.5 years later!! Never really eat it anymore

Smells and taste are so weird!!

This headache constantly behind my eyes like eye strain can just p off tho, I'm fed up of it!

Getting into allergy season as well and I can't take any of my normal meds! Eugh

Daisy0909 · 10/02/2023 13:36

@suz2285 lol I'm glad the damp smell isn't just me! I can't stand the smell of our washing detergent it smells damp and mouldy to me - i'm being told by the OH it doesn't smell at all & that it smells nice..

So strange re the headaches, have you spoken to your GP/midwife?

suz2285 · 10/02/2023 16:10

@Daisy0909 nah i don't see the midwife until end of feb, but I know they're common in the first trimester and I'm prone to headaches so I'm sure it's fine. Just a pain not being able to take all my usual medicines 😂

Maraudingmarauders · 10/02/2023 16:27

@suz2285 that must be super frustrating, I hate headaches. I think they say its caused by the increase in blood volume.

@Daisy155 oh god, damp smells are the worst, they just linger everywhere. Even if they're not real apparently 😂

I finish work in 30 minutes and have a week off. I can't wait. I'm really hoping sightseeing isn't going to be unpleasant with my nausea (I'm not even thinking about the flight, but at least its short) but at least the days will fly by as they always do on holiday. And then once I'm back only a few days until my NHS scan. Then nearly at the mythical 12 weeks fingers crossed. The nerves are killing me.

suz2285 · 10/02/2023 16:47

@Maraudingmarauders where are you off to? Hope you have a great time!

I took thur Fri off this week just to have a break but didn't do much tbh! Naps, tv and some house jobs! Must try to get fresh air at the weekend!!

Maraudingmarauders · 10/02/2023 19:12

@suz2285 Copenhagen! Haven't been before so looking forward to it.
I don't blame you, I've been really tempted to do the same but I've got this week coming and a week at the end of March so trying to hold out so I don't use all my annual leave too early.

suz2285 · 10/02/2023 19:19

@Maraudingmarauders I know, I'm trying to save some annual leave for before Mat leave but it's so busy I don't know when I'm going to take the rest of it 😂

Enjoy Copenhagen!

PCOSunfortunately · 10/02/2023 19:36

@Maraudingmarauders enjoy your holiday! Sounds amazing! You get to do it all with a lil pip inside you ❤️ xxx

Maraudingmarauders · 10/02/2023 21:33

Thanks ladies! I've just stupidly read a thread from lots of people who've sadly found at their 12 week scan that baby stopped at 8/9/10 weeks so now I'm stressing out. Hoping holiday helps to distract me!! I'm such a pessimist.

BellaPixi · 11/02/2023 06:33

Sorry I’ve been awol. I have been trying to recover from covid, now I have been hit with a really bad cold!

Had our scan on Sunday and all was good, saw a heartbeat and was measuring 7w2days which works out to exactly when I ovulated as I know since the miscarriage I’ve had unusual cycles. Also had my midwife booking in appointment and when talking through our history she has booked me in for another scan at 10 weeks. So pleased as it seemed like ages to go through to 12 weeks
Glad to see everyone’s getting on ok

So sorry @Bubblemachiene 💕

suz2285 · 11/02/2023 07:15

@Maraudingmarauders yeah I've read all those too... but remember on those threads people who comment are only the people that happened to, there's thousands of other people who haven't had that experience and therefore didn't comment on the thread. Also there's nothing we can do to control or change anything so try not to stress 😀 enjoy your holiday!

@BellaPixi hope you're feeling better soon! After covid I caught everything going for a while and it was a rubbish time, esp if you can't take anything for it, fingers crossed for feeling better really soon! 🤞 but yey for a healthy scan

winningeasy · 11/02/2023 08:17

@Maraudingmarauders positive thoughts ❤️

Anyone else speak to their baby? I try to say hi as much as possible and get DH to as well x

northernmam · 11/02/2023 08:22

Have a lovely holiday @Maraudingmarauders and use it as a distraction 😊

@winningeasy yes I've spoken to baby already. It's a lovely habit to get into I think.

How is everyone feeling?

Maraudingmarauders · 11/02/2023 09:21

That's very true! Thanks ladies. I think last night I was just wallowing a bit, felt dreadful with nausea and then I guilt myself for wishing the sickness would go away. Feeling much better this morning, amazing what a good night's sleep can achieve! Even if my dreams still are mad.

Sorry to hear you've been unwell @BellaPixi hopefully its only up from here, and the cold passes soon. So pleased you got a good scan ❤️

I chat to mine a little but I feel a bit weird at the moment. DH occasionally puts his head on my belly and just says "hello blob" 🤣
We'll get there 😂

PBandJs · 11/02/2023 11:58

Love that everyone else does this too. I like to put my hand on my tummy and tell them how loved and how strong and healthy they are 🤞🏼 (Dunno if that last bit is more for me)

I watched something recently where a mum has been doing affirmations with the baby since she was born and now she’s old enough to talk she repeats them back to herself everyday. It’s like I am so loved, I am so strong, I am so beautiful, and it made me quite emotional. I was given quite negative messages as a child that I still struggle with now so it’s really important to me this baby knows how special they are from the start 🥰

Raizelrea · 11/02/2023 12:35

I never thought of talking to the baby, I do rub my nonexistant belly a lot though. We do have a code name for the baby with my husband though - it's cute when he asks what my apps are saying about them today and such.

@Daisy0909 & @suz2285 OMG ditto with the damp mouldy smell. I need our washing machine to be shut at all times now, it smells so disgusting. Probably the worst offender - though I'm currently accompanied by my damp dog which is also a challenge haha

@Maraudingmarauders Have a fab time in Copanhagen, should make the time pass quicker and hopefully distract you if you're feeling naxious or queasy. Plus with a city holiday you can have plenty of breaks in cafes or such if you're feeling tired 😊

suz2285 · 11/02/2023 14:07

@Raizelrea I'm not at the stage of talking to baby either it still feels too early and def no bump just a weird puffy feeling 😂 but it is cute checking on the apps etc to see what the deal is today!

I am having a very 'meh' few days just feeling completely unmotivated and sad, I should be out enjoying the sunny day but I'm hibernating inside even tho I know I won't feel better for it... 🙈 hoping to get some energy back soon 🤞

suz2285 · 11/02/2023 14:09

@PBandJs I love the affirmations things, when I'm having an anxiety day I like to say to baby - baby is healthy happy and safe and I am healthy happy and safe ❤️ it does help I think

Now if baby can just give me some motivation to not lie in bed for the next 8 months that would be lovely 😂

PCOSunfortunately · 11/02/2023 16:23

I've been tired today. I'm really not a fan of Aldi food shopping I could puke 🤢 I have to compose my self all the time!
People keep asking me come to the pub tonight do this do that. I'll be sooo happy when I've had my 12 week scan and I can just go out and not have to hibernate. Also my nausea usually kicks in around 7ish. I've got my reassurance scan tomorrow should be 8 weeks according to my app! Im so anxious 😬 really praying everything's okay 🤞

Maraudingmarauders · 11/02/2023 18:31

@PBandJs good luck tomorrow, let us know how you get on!
Yes I think whoever named it morning sickness was having a laugh. I'm ten times worse in the evening, but doesn't stop it going on all day too! Morning is pretty much the only time I feel okay for an hour or so.
Thankfully we live quite rurally and so met ups with friends are all pre-planned, so no last minute calls to go out!
