5 weeks today! Sep 23 Thread

Hi all, I found out I am expecting my second baby on Wednesday, and I'm 5 weeks today. Early days, but wanted to start a thread for those with similar due dates so we can go through the motions together. ☺️
I'm due 10th September. My little boy will be 2 and 3 quarters by then, so a good little age gap.

Any anxieties? For me, less so about the pregnancy this time around, far more chill. My anxiety is surrounding timing. Baby 2 wasn't planned for just now, but a happy surprise and very much wanted. However, the most instrumental career opportunity for me is coming up in the next 2-4 months or so, and I was hoping to get this role. It may or may not have come off anyway, but I don't want my pregnancy to be the determining factor (I don't think my company would outwardly discriminate, but they might find a 'business reason' I wasn't successful), so I ideally need to keep my pregnancy hidden from work for as long as possible. If I get the role, I will have no worries in taking Mat leave around August and return next year, as I know I'll do a damn good job for them once I'm back, and for the foreseeable future. Anyway... that's my one thing at the mo! ☺️

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Thank you it really means a lot. I have no one here as hubby works away Mon- Fri but you guys have been really supportive on this thread.

Bubblemachiene · 08/02/2023 22:07

@PCOSunfortunately 👆👆forgot to tag u xx

suz2285 · 09/02/2023 07:22

So sorry @Bubblemachiene please look after yourself, go get the bloods done tomorrow as at least you'll be on their radar if any further issues 🤞

@PCOSunfortunately funny I was talking to my pal about the shettles method that boys are quicker and girls stay in there longer, so we dtd for 3 days before ovu, day of and day after so I think a. There was about a bazillion sperm waiting for the poor egg and I've no idea if it would've been the girls waiting from days before or if the newer boys would've swum up and been faster 😂 no idea! I kinda want a girl cos I'm not sure if we'll be one and done... I'd have like 3-4 but I'm getting old and I can barely afford or have space for one right now! 😂

@colourPink no idea how to stop the anxiety I'm not sure you can, keep busy I guess!

@FarmBaby3 im pretty sure we all have that fear... I'm very much at that point just now I mean I have symptoms so I'm sure something is going on it's just not being able to see it or know it's in the right place or growing correctly etc! I think I might book a scan next weekend when I'll be 8 weeks cos I'm not sure waiting till 12 feels a very long time away!! Plus I'm scared for any surprises at the 'official' 12 week scan!

northernmam · 09/02/2023 07:24

@Bubblemachiene so so sorry for your loss, there are no words 😩 take care of yourself, thinking of you xx

suz2285 · 09/02/2023 07:26

@Daisy155 can you just stick diluting juice in your water? Nothing wrong with that!

Also re the salt if you're dehydrated you need electrolytes as well as water, plain water actually can make you more dehydrated as you flush out salts, you can get hydration tablets that you add to water (nunn or zero are the ones I tend to use) add salt to your food as well... it's probably a sign your body needs it and salt isn't bad 👌

Daisy0909 · 09/02/2023 08:09

@Bubblemachiene really sorry for your loss, take the time to look after yourself during this ❤️ xx

suz2285 · 09/02/2023 09:01

Ok I booked a scan for next week, this place says you have to be 8 weeks, I should be 8+1 by then if my dates are right so 🤞 I think they only do external hence having to be a bit later along....

Daisy155 · 09/02/2023 11:30

@Bubblemachiene I am so sorry that you are going through this my heart completely goes out to you and I wish you all the best and please take care of yourself. I know how it feels trust me I do and I hope you get through this 💕 sending you lots of love!

@suz2285 thank you so much I will definitely be doing this and get the tablets
I am also forcing myself to drink today as much as I am gagging nothing is coming out thankfully I am not allowed squash unfortunately or juice or fruit smoothies due to being pre diabetic but lemon water seems to be helping today

Also good luck with your scan I hope it all goes well for you next week 🥰💕

I've been put in a very awkward spot at work. One of the girls is going on maternity leave from end of May and my boss has suggested I cover for her in the interim. Obviously I haven't told work yet as I haven't even had a 12 week scan yet. But don't want them to make plans and not employ anyone new thinking I'd be able to cover for 9 months, when in actual fact, I'll only be able to cover just about 3 months.

Oh dear! Are you concerned about telling your boss? If it was me, I'd like tell them. But of course it's very awkward! What will you do?

BebeSurprise · 09/02/2023 11:58

@Bubblemachiene I'm so very sorry, you've been through the ringer havent you :-( thinking of you x

mummmmyj · 09/02/2023 12:03

@Tinkerbell098 I wouldn’t let it add any pressure to when you was planning on telling them, it’s naive of them to assume your circumstances may not change / get another job x

suz2285 · 09/02/2023 12:06

@Tinkerbell098 eugh what a nightmare! I wouldn't want to say anything at this stage, just wait until you feel comfortable and then say omg it was a total surprise I'm so sorry! 😂 looks like you'll have to get someone in after all!

Raizelrea · 09/02/2023 13:07

@Bubblemachiene So sorry you are going through this, sending virtual hugs and thinking of you 💐Hope you are looking after yourself x

PCOSunfortunately · 09/02/2023 13:09

@Tinkerbell098 I'm the same I wouldn't say anything until you have your 12 week scan. You have your own life to live to! xx

Raizelrea · 09/02/2023 13:14

@Tinkerbell098 Thing is, even if you were able to cover her maternity, surely they'd have to get in someone else to cover for your role - so either way they'd have to get a new person in? Personally I told my manager at 5 or 6 weeks because I started to feel sick which obviously affects my performance, plus if things were to go wrong I would want time off so I felt it was better if she knew. But we do have a good relationship and she was aware I was doing IVF last year anyway, appreciate not everyone's manager is necessarily supportive.

Bubblemachiene · 09/02/2023 13:35

I am thanks you those who have asked. I am having a chill day but back in work tomorrow. Wishing I wasn't tho.
I didn't get another scan I didn't see any point, I just got bloods and am waiting for them to call me with results.

Daisy0909 · 09/02/2023 14:03

@Daisy155 Try these if you can (have a look at ingredients/sugar etc first) - My partner has them often as he was getting a lot of headaches even though he was drinking plenty of water (He had tests done by docs and nothing came back abnormal!)

Daisy155 · 09/02/2023 15:07

@Tinkerbell098 I am currently on maternity leave, I am not worried to tell work but I will not disclose it with them. Until I am comfortable to let them know that I am pregnant because of the year we have had they will probably be understanding anyway.

I have 3 more months left in my maternity leave and I plan to grow baby, then makeup my mind about work. What matters the most is you and your baby at this time. Work always sorts itself out and they will always find cover for you and the lady.

But if you feel pressure and feel the need to tell them especially covering another persons job do tell them and see what they say 💕

@Daisy0909 thank you so much I have just sent the link to my midwife, I have sent her a few today and I have been consuming more water than usual today I am really glad, not enough but more than the previous days 😄

I hope your partners headache's get better it's strange they can't find a reason if they are awful headaches.

Daisy0909 · 09/02/2023 16:00

@Daisy155 No worries, best to be safe - I think they are sugar free so hopefully she says they're ok! Glad you've managed to get some water down today though!

Yeah his headaches have calmed down now, it was a while back - we're still not sure what it was but the doctors weren't concerned!

colourPink · 09/02/2023 16:44

@Bubblemachiene I am so sorry! My heart goes out to you 😢

@Tinkerbell098 I'm in a similar position! Someone is leaving and I've wanted that role for AGES (everyone knows it). I think I'm going to be offered it and there's a lot of hints/suggestions to say I will but I will be on Mat leave. I also feel unsure of what to do!

FarmBaby3 · 09/02/2023 18:47

For those worried about accepting jobs knowing you will go off, please don't. Accept the job. Show that you are right for the job. Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean that you shouldn't do that job even for a short time. Someone could accept the job then leave the company completely in 6 months or go on long term sick.

Go for the job!!!

Daisy0909 · 09/02/2023 19:43

Completely agree with @FarmBaby3 - you're not less deserving of the job just because you're going to be going on maternity! Go for it girls x

BebeSurprise · 09/02/2023 21:32

After the strange pains I had last week, the majority of my symptoms have pretty much disappeared. My boobs no longer feel hideously painful and the nausea has pretty much gone so I started to feel worried.

Ended up booking an early viability scan which I this evening. Sonographer said there was definitely a baby and definitely a heartbeat but it's measuring at 6+1 and only 5.6mm. I asked if I should be concerned given my estimates put me at about 8 weeks and she seemed reassured by the fact my cycle is irregular & reassured me that the most important thing at this stage is to see a heartbeat.

My LMP began 15th December, 30th December is the only date we DTD as the OH then went away for 2 weeks and I went away the week after. I then got my first positive test on 20th December. My cycle has been all over the place for months, ranging anywhere from 28 - 40 days so it all feels really confusing!

Trying to focus on the little heartbeat and not worry about the dating and measurements but it's difficult not to think there's something wrong. First midwife appointment is next Thursday so will be sure to talk it through then.

Hope everyone is doing ok today!

FarmBaby3 · 09/02/2023 23:14

Was it an internal scan? It could be that you ovulated just after dtd then implantation was a few days after that. If you count conception as 4th January then that would be 7 weeks plus 1 today. Then the accuracy of the measurements could easily account for it being out. The heartbeat is the positive to focus on and wait to see what the next scan shows.
