5 weeks today! Sep 23 Thread

Hi all, I found out I am expecting my second baby on Wednesday, and I'm 5 weeks today. Early days, but wanted to start a thread for those with similar due dates so we can go through the motions together. ☺️
I'm due 10th September. My little boy will be 2 and 3 quarters by then, so a good little age gap.

Any anxieties? For me, less so about the pregnancy this time around, far more chill. My anxiety is surrounding timing. Baby 2 wasn't planned for just now, but a happy surprise and very much wanted. However, the most instrumental career opportunity for me is coming up in the next 2-4 months or so, and I was hoping to get this role. It may or may not have come off anyway, but I don't want my pregnancy to be the determining factor (I don't think my company would outwardly discriminate, but they might find a 'business reason' I wasn't successful), so I ideally need to keep my pregnancy hidden from work for as long as possible. If I get the role, I will have no worries in taking Mat leave around August and return next year, as I know I'll do a damn good job for them once I'm back, and for the foreseeable future. Anyway... that's my one thing at the mo! ☺️

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Symptoms seem to come in waves, some days more than others - today is quite strong, but last few days not noticed but maybe because I have been dealing white other ailments. I really don't fancy any foods apart from cakes, fruit, ham salad sandwiches or Mac Donald's x

suz2285 · 08/02/2023 12:55

@Raizelrea great news and measuring right on track with what you thought right?

@winningeasy yey! So exciting!

@PCOSunfortunately @Daisy0909 I'm not feeling that nauseous either, was worse week 5! I feel a bit weird if my stomach is totally empty sometimes but main symptoms are achy boobs and sore muscles 😂

I've also got no weird cravings or anything yet, mostly still eating smaller and healthier portions, though today I have had toast and crisps this morning!

Daisy0909 · 08/02/2023 13:31

@suz2285 thank you you've made me feel a little bit better! I think maybe I'm also just learning to manage the nauseous waves better by forcing myself to eat 😂

@winningeasy I'm craving McDonalds too but mainly just the fries... all I want is salty fries it's crazy.. God help us when the cravings really ramp up!

colourPink · 08/02/2023 13:33

@Raizelrea yes! We do seem to be pretty similar. I'll be 6+3 today now. I've felt fine throughout but the nausea has started to hit me this week. I can easily keep it at bay as long as I eat and keep snacking! As soon as my stomach is empty I feel sick 🤣

Hope you're okay!

Maraudingmarauders · 08/02/2023 13:41

@Raizelrea @winningeasy so pleased you had good scans! It's such a relief, isn't it.
@PCOSunfortunately unfortunately nausea is my non-stop companion. Very few other symptoms apart from fatigue and so much gas haha. But the nausea is driving me mad. I've even ordered some wrist bands to try and help.
Plenty of my friends had no nausea, so I wouldn't worry. Apparently you get less with a boy if you believe that stuff!

Raizelrea · 08/02/2023 15:16

@suz2285 Thank you! Yes that's right, my apps say 6+5 so just a day off from what I'm measuring, really pleased with that, especially as I have no idea when I ovulated! Well done on mostly eating small healthy portions, I think I'm eating a bit heathier too now but but that's only because the only things I can stomach are chicken, rice and fruit 😆

@colourPink Yeah the symptoms really seemed to intensify around 6 weeks, don't they? Though I know everyone is different. Thankfully my husband has been amazing with me refusing to eat most things we normally eat though he's probably a bit sick of rice and chicken now I bet haha. I'm off work today (since I figured I'd be too much of a state if it was bad news) and just spent the last two hours napping 😅

@Maraudingmarauders Thank you! Let me know how you are finding the wristbands once they arrive, I was just looking at them earlier so quite curious to see if they work.

NoorOuldadda · 08/02/2023 15:35

Hi all,

Congratulations to anyone reading n the same position.

I'm 5 weeks pregnant and contacted my GP only to be told to self refer to the midwife. It's my first child and I expected maybe there would be further tests or checks. My first antenatal appointment has come through for 20th March so by my calculations I'll be 11 weeks.

I read on NHS website there should be some tests which are offered or completed before 10 weeks, should I contact my GP again?

I just feel a little alone :(

Thanks in advance

Daisy155 · 08/02/2023 15:50

That is such good news about the scans @Raizelrea and @winningeasy and to everyone yes the symptoms seem to come in waves and it sometimes comes from nowhere!

Yesterday and today were definitely better days so I am very happy, the nausea came in the evening last night!

The only thing is that consuming water is making me throw up so I don’t know what to do except eat watermelon, and have grapes, I am able to drink small sips of water which I have researched is not good enough!

but when I drink water my nausea and sickness gets worse. I am also having a cup with salt and lemon water!

Raizelrea · 08/02/2023 16:37

@NoorOuldadda Congratulations! I think it depends on the region you're in, technically the booking appointment can happen anywhere between 8 and 12 weeks but 11 does feel a bit late. I don't think your GP will be able to do much to speed up your midwife appointments, but if there was a phone number on your referral letter or on the page you ised to self-refer, may be worth ringing the midwife and ask about the screening you're meant to get before 10 weeks?

@Daisy155 Thank you! Oof, water would be a difficult one! Have you tried bottled water, or maybe some frutiy teas without caffeine? I did notice tap water tastes a bit gross to me now, luckily we did just recently get a new fridge (after years of having a shoddy under the counter one) that filters water and I find that mich more palatable.

Maraudingmarauders · 08/02/2023 16:58

@Daisy155 that's tough with the water. I'm normally terrible for drinking and I'm getting though litres a day at the moment. I'm so thirsty! (There's me saying only a few symptoms, ha)
Have you tried putting some fruit in the water to flavour it? I cant imagine drinking salty water...

I'm also finding water completely unpalatable. Hot drinks also completely gross me out.

Managing watermelon and grapes and squash / juice.

My friend is a midwife and also warned should be drinking loads :(

NoorOuldadda · 08/02/2023 17:55

@Raizelrea Yes I thought it was a bit late! Thanks for the advice, I'm gong to get in touch just to check x All the best x

PBandJs · 08/02/2023 17:58

@Raizelrea @winningeasy so pleased you had good scans today 🥰

Is anyone else suffering with their hair and nails? My nails are usually quite strong and can grow long but they’ve all broken off and are paper thin, and my hair is falling out like I’ve never know it 🫣 between that and the sudden acne I’m really not sure about this pregnancy glow 😂

PCOSunfortunately · 08/02/2023 19:40

I'm finding myself not feeling sick but struggling with big portions of food. It's took me half an hour to eat a bowl of jacket potato with some chilli con carne.
I'm actually okay with hot drinks although a cup of tea repulses me! And I've realised I've gone off mushrooms! I'm the same love my fruit and sandwiches and lighter bites. I actually hate water but I'm finding it so refreshing lately. If I do feel nauseous it stops me.

We've been hacked at work so IT are having to rebuild the server so I've had a lovely three days off chilling out, visiting people and dog walks over the fields. They've told us we've got to come in tomorrow and take a book to pass the time 🤣🙈

I have my 8 week scan Sunday. Praying there's a heart beat ❤️

@Maraudingmarauders I definitely think I'm growing a boy I know it's 50/50 but they say boy sperm is faster than girls but girls last longer. So if you have sex 2 days before you ovulate you have more chance of it being a girl. I know that method doesn't always work. But we literally dtd every day for 4 days over the fertile period and boy did I know cause I had horrendous ovulation pains with clomid!

Maraudingmarauders · 08/02/2023 19:48

It's so weird how many of us are affected by hot drinks, I wonder what it is about them?! If you'd have told me I'd go a week without a cup of tea I'd have laughed at you!

northernmam · 08/02/2023 20:36

So pleased your scans went well @Raizelrea @winningeasy 😊

I haven't managed to catch up fully but have caught some bits re feeling yucky. Today I have felt really nauseous and exhausted. I got to the point where I considered ringing the GP to see if there was anything they could prescribe to help with it as I haven't heard from the midwife yet.

I can't stomach coffee anymore and used to survive on it at work (I'm a nurse 😂). I'm finding when I do want to eat, I just want carbs and spice 😍 xx

Daisy155 · 08/02/2023 20:39

Hi ladies thank you so much for the advice yes I am definitely trying bottled water and I agree with you @Raizelrea tap water is tasting gross and also there is a distinct smell now that I can smell from tap water! I will try to put fruits in but it’s just the water when I drink it, it just wants to come out straight away😣

@Maraudingmarauders 😂I can not wait to be as thirsty as you are feeling, I know I feel the thirst but I just wish I could drink as much as I want!! That’s a very good symptom that you have 😄

@Purpleunicorn35 its so hard and I feel for the both of us 💕seriously I am eating water melon right now I just had a soupy dish with lots of spinach, couscous and vegetables and it filled me up but I think it’s not enough so I will try again later to drink just before bed time so I can sleep off the sickness! I really don’t want to be dehydrated as I am starting to crave lots of salt, my Dh thinks that’s a sign of lack of water. My body is trying to absorb moisture or something like that!

@NoorOuldadda sorry earlier I wanted to respond to you as well, firstly congratulations 🥰 and I was just going to get my first blood test done today! I am currently 8 weeks 2 days and I think waiting until 11 weeks is too long they should do your tests etc and then you should be getting your scan by 12 weeks so when will they be able to book you for the scan? I think you are right get in touch with them and get an earlier date ♥️

Daisy155 · 08/02/2023 20:47

@PCOSunfortunately Good luck for Sunday I am so excited for you to see your little one I hope everything goes smoothly for you on the day 🥰 and l think when you know you just know I have predicted all my babies gender before the gender scan at 20 weeks and I seven told them before they told me last pregnancy I just knew!

colourPink · 08/02/2023 20:54

@Raizelrea yep! 6 weeks had definitely hit me like a train 🤣

How do you stop the anxiety? Please tell me it's not just me! I'm constantly worried that something has gone wrong and I just don't know it. I know I need to relax and enjoy it but I can't enjoy it as much as I'd like to.... I'm always worried 🤣

@Bubblemachiene best of luck! Thinking of you x

Definitely meant good luck to @PCOSunfortunately!!

Sorry - I genuinely have the WORST memory at the moment 🤦🏼‍♀️

FarmBaby3 · 08/02/2023 21:04

@PCOSunfortunately my pregnancy with my son was symptomless until 12 weeks then nausea for a few weeks then heartburn until he popped out.

I remember going into my 12 week scan and the sonographer asking how I was. I just said "scared there is nothing in there". I've never seen them get sorted so quick to look. All was well, just no symptoms. I totally get how some people can know they aren't pregnant.

That pregnancy was number 2. Pregnancy number 1 had HG until 16 weeks. Every pregnancy is different.

FarmBaby3 · 08/02/2023 21:05

@colourPink I am full of anxiety just now. We've not had a reassurance scan and I'm counting down two weeks until the scan. I remember this feeling with pregnancy 2 where I just got so wound up that there would be nothing on the scan.

winningeasy · 08/02/2023 21:28

Highly recommend getting a water filter. Makes water taste a lot better x

Bubblemachiene · 08/02/2023 21:52

Hi everyone
I've lost this pregnancy. I had a funny turn this morning then a loss. I may still go to get my bloods done tomorrow but I know I am no longer pregnant.
I wish you all the best of luck going forward. I will probably leave this thread.

PCOSunfortunately · 08/02/2023 22:02

@Bubblemachiene so so sorry to hear this 💔 please look after yourself as you've been through so much! Wishing you all the best for the future. Sending you lots of love ❤️ xxx
