5 weeks today! Sep 23 Thread

Hi all, I found out I am expecting my second baby on Wednesday, and I'm 5 weeks today. Early days, but wanted to start a thread for those with similar due dates so we can go through the motions together. ☺️
I'm due 10th September. My little boy will be 2 and 3 quarters by then, so a good little age gap.

Any anxieties? For me, less so about the pregnancy this time around, far more chill. My anxiety is surrounding timing. Baby 2 wasn't planned for just now, but a happy surprise and very much wanted. However, the most instrumental career opportunity for me is coming up in the next 2-4 months or so, and I was hoping to get this role. It may or may not have come off anyway, but I don't want my pregnancy to be the determining factor (I don't think my company would outwardly discriminate, but they might find a 'business reason' I wasn't successful), so I ideally need to keep my pregnancy hidden from work for as long as possible. If I get the role, I will have no worries in taking Mat leave around August and return next year, as I know I'll do a damn good job for them once I'm back, and for the foreseeable future. Anyway... that's my one thing at the mo! ☺️

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Thanks @colourPink , I'm hoping to re book a different place on Sunday I should be 6+7 then, this place does internal scans this early.

suz2285 · 03/02/2023 08:48

@colourPink omg don't with the finances, we're currently in a 1 bed, we were planning on moving soon but didn't expect to get pregnant so quickly! And now we're looking into it urgently, but the market is a mess, dunno if we can even sell so i've been also looking at part exchange etc but the prices are crazy. We need to keep some money back to cover mat leave shortage and we need like 20K minimum for a deposit, even then we'll be stretching ourselves on a larger mortgage etc etc!

My husbands wage doesn't cover our outgoings either even in this smaller house, so I def need to go back to work at 9 ish months PP but then.... who's going to look after the baby, because even child care for 2 days a week is another full mortgage!

BUT then everyone says "you just manage" but i'm not sure how exactly! those with more than one kid maybe have a better idea! Or better wages maybe! Or live in a less expensive part of the UK!

It really annoys me because we both bought property and if the market hadn't crashed we'd probably be able to sell and have made a fair bit to put toward the next place but now it's like even if we CAN sell, we might have to pay a shortfall on the mortgage just to move!

Did i also mention my job is full on and stressful!

PCOSunfortunately · 03/02/2023 09:01

Does anyone have any idea apart from calling the doctors.
I've always suffered with a blocked nose I've been to the docs before but they didn't do much to help so I found taking a hay fever cetrizine tablet a day helped and I could live happily ever after. Now I've found out I'm pregnant I've stopped taking them for about 3 and abit weeks alls been ok but today my nose is super stuffy and my taste and smell has gone 🙈 this used to happen before I started a hay fever tablets a day and used to use Sudafed nasal spray twice a day but that never really helped only for a few hours.
Does anyone know if I can take a hay fever tablet? xx

BellaPixi · 03/02/2023 09:16

Hi all, I’ve been lurking for a while and thought it was time to post! I’m currently 7+5 (although I actually think that’s a bit ahead) I suffered a MMC at 12 weeks in oct so anxiety is all over the place! To top it all off a few days ago I tested positive for covid so trying to rest up and take it easy. I do have a private scan booked for Sunday so hopefully get some reassurance assuming I’m able to go.

Maraudingmarauders · 03/02/2023 09:24

@BellaPixi congratulations and welcome! I'm sorry for your past loss, I'm not surprised you're nervous. You're in good company, lots of very nervous women on this thread so please feel free to vent

Maraudingmarauders · 03/02/2023 09:25

Woops hit send too quickly! Anyway, yes please feel free to vent and keep us updated on your progress.

@PCOSunfortunately Google suggests you can take hay-fever tablets in pregnancy but maybe speak to a pharmacist? They're often so helpful about advising what can and can't be taken or suggesting alternatives.

northernmam · 03/02/2023 09:26

@BellaPixi aw welcome! You're bound to be nervous and anxious after what you've been through, so sorry for your loss!

This is a really supportive thread and there's a Facebook group too if you wish to join it, but not sure how to share the link.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, wishing you a happy and healthy one 😊 xx

PCOSunfortunately · 03/02/2023 10:09

Congratulations and welcome @BellaPixi sorry to hear about your previous loss 🤗 hoping this one's a happy and healthy pregnancy for you 😘❤️

I second that this group is really supportive with lovely ladies. They have certainly stopped me from worrying at times 🥰

Thanks @Maraudingmarauders I'll have to pop down later and ask. I know Google says it's safe but a girl at work who now is on maternity leave said to me last year she doesn't take them as they don't know much about them there's not enough research 🤷‍♀️

suz2285 · 03/02/2023 10:19

@PCOSunfortunately i've not been taking mine but I reckon in spring i'm def gonna have to! I've been told its safe... also the nausea tablet most recommended for women in first tri is also an antihistamine too! I've actually used my nasal spray a few days this time, as it only goes into your nose/lungs and not into your blood so that might be an alternative too, but always best to ask the docs! I'll be asking the midwife when I go as i'm pretty sure i'll have to take! I'm allergic to life hahha

suz2285 · 03/02/2023 10:20

Also there's never any research on anything in pregnant women unless they're pretty sure it's safe as no pregnant woman would sign up to subject their unborn baby to anything that might be dangerous, not to mention it wouldn't get past any ethical screening for any trial company... it's a bit of a pain though as it means nothing is "safe"

Purplegiraffes · 03/02/2023 11:01

Hi ladies,
I’m joining for first time. I’m 7+2. I had a MMC followed by 2 CPs before this so I am very anxious. I have my first scan today. Ob/gyn has started me on progesterone and aspirin. Keeping my fingers crossed for a healthy heart beat today and I will continue on the journey with you all. 🤞

Tinkerbell098 · 03/02/2023 11:14

@Purplegiraffes good luck for the scan X

suz2285 · 03/02/2023 11:39

Welcome @Purplegiraffes let us know how the scan goes! Everything crossed for you!

northernmam · 03/02/2023 11:41

Hi @Purplegiraffes so sorry for your previous losses, but good luck for your scan! Xx

FarmBaby3 · 03/02/2023 11:42

PCOSunfortunately · 03/02/2023 12:00

@Purplegiraffes good luck for today 🥰 xxx

Maraudingmarauders · 03/02/2023 13:00

Welcome @Purplegiraffes and good luck!

winningeasy · 03/02/2023 14:32

Been feeling terrible today with a cold. Just had a McDonald's for lunch - naughty but actually feel better

No appetite for anything healthy

Why does this happen??

colourPink · 03/02/2023 16:56

@suz2285 wow! Moving right now does sound really stressful! But I get why you'd be thinking about it living in a one bed.

I'm with you when people say "they JUST make it work". How?! How do you magic money? All of our current savings will need to go on furniture and the prep for the baby. Let alone saving for once it's born!

Very stressful 🤯

Bubblemachiene · 03/02/2023 17:08

Little update
Just done a cheap pregnancy test and it was negative 😭

suz2285 · 03/02/2023 17:08

@colourPink exactly, where is this magic money tree and when do I get access to it??

Sadiexox · 03/02/2023 17:09

Hun please try not to worry, it could just be the hook effect, try again if you really want to but pee in cup and dilute the wee then dip it in xx

colourPink · 03/02/2023 17:16

@Bubblemachiene oh no babe! It might not mean anything yet. Tests are designed to trace that initial peak - doesn't mean you're not pregnant! You could be too far along or need to use your first wee so the hormone is stronger x

Raizelrea · 03/02/2023 17:25

Just checking in, I've been feeling a bit rough the last two days as I've been having a tiny bit of brown spotting, looks like it's stopped now though so I'm hoping for the best. Everyone does says it's incredibly common in early pregnancy and I read it may have something to do with the placenta developing so fingers crossed.

@suz2285 and @northernmam I think we all have the same dates if I'm not mistaken - made it to 6 weeks! ☺️

@suz2285 Oof that sounds like a lot on your plate, but it will be exciting to move somewhere new with the baby and start making memories fresh. Just try not to move anything heavy when it gets to the moving part x

@PCOSunfortunately Hopefully you managed to chat to a pharmacist, I'm not too sure either way - I do remember a colleague saying she couldn't take her allergy medication during pregnancy but I think hers was really severe so she wasn't just using regular over the counter antihistamines. Hopefully there is something you're allowed to take!

@BellaPixi and @Purplegiraffes Welcome both! Sorry to hear about your losses, I had two early losses in the past so I can relate to the anxiety. I really hope all goes smoothly for you this time around, this is a really lovely group and we're here for you x Let us know how your scans went! I've got my early scan next Wednesday and counting down the days.
