5 weeks today! Sep 23 Thread

Hi all, I found out I am expecting my second baby on Wednesday, and I'm 5 weeks today. Early days, but wanted to start a thread for those with similar due dates so we can go through the motions together. ☺️
I'm due 10th September. My little boy will be 2 and 3 quarters by then, so a good little age gap.

Any anxieties? For me, less so about the pregnancy this time around, far more chill. My anxiety is surrounding timing. Baby 2 wasn't planned for just now, but a happy surprise and very much wanted. However, the most instrumental career opportunity for me is coming up in the next 2-4 months or so, and I was hoping to get this role. It may or may not have come off anyway, but I don't want my pregnancy to be the determining factor (I don't think my company would outwardly discriminate, but they might find a 'business reason' I wasn't successful), so I ideally need to keep my pregnancy hidden from work for as long as possible. If I get the role, I will have no worries in taking Mat leave around August and return next year, as I know I'll do a damn good job for them once I'm back, and for the foreseeable future. Anyway... that's my one thing at the mo! ☺️

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Hope your OK try not to worry if its brown @PCOSunfortunately
It was abdominal my scan
Can't stop crying now x

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 15:57

@suz2285 she booked me in for a free scan in 3 weeks but I don't fancy goin back there, it was rushed, unprofessional, she scanned me for literally a few seconds said can't see anything an was walking out the door as I was still wiping the gel off. I was out & in my car at 26 minutes past 2
My appointment was quarter past but it was 2.17 before she called me In

It is harder to see on abdominal scan when that early, when I went for a scan on Tuesday eve, she tried abdominal first but could only see sack, but when she done internal she saw sack, yolk and embryo so I'd try not to worry so much honestly! Maybe try going somewhere else?

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 16:01

Really? @Sadiexox
That's hopeful. She did say maybe the water hadn't travelled do my bladder yet to push up the uterus. It was really grainy image not clear like yours and I do have bit of fat on stomach but I did see just a round black shape 😕

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 16:01

I may just pay out and go somewhere else next week.

PCOSunfortunately · 02/02/2023 16:01

@Bubblemachiene yeah I think she should have done internally to at least put your mind at rest! It's too early to see anything on a external scan. Read about holly hagan on her ok interview she had a scan at 6 weeks and couldn't see anything. Please don't worry too much. But how unprofessional of the sonographer! 🤬

Yeah I've got fat around my lower belly (quite a bit) and my abdominal looked exactly how yours sounds xx

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 16:06

@Sadiexox I've got a bit of a mum tum from my 2 kids lol il look her up thanks.
It's like dejavu
My sister had this happen in August and no baby 😥

Honestly please try not to worry xx it will be okay xx

Maraudingmarauders · 02/02/2023 16:14

@Bubblemachiene they sound really unprofessional. They shouldn't really have even tried an external at that early. The place I'm going to have said anything pre 10 weeks they do internal. As I'm 9+6 they're going to try and external and will do internal if any issues or I'm not happy with picture quality. Any earlier and she said itneouldnt even be a question. So at 6+4 it's crazy to have an external.
I'd try and book somewhere more reputable if you can, and wait a fortnight (recommended) and hopefully have more luck. Don't count yourself out yet.
Alternatively speak to EPU and say you may have a MMC. They might scan you as a result.

Tinkerbell098 · 02/02/2023 16:17

@Bubblemachiene it's definitely too early to see much with an external scan, especially if your bladder wasn't full. Yes I'd recommend going somewhere else and ask for an internal scan. I wouldn't do external until at least last 8 weeks.

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 16:18

Thank you I didn't know this, I may ring the epu but if I say mmc and they scan will it be internal? And if all was OK, they will think I'm lying just for a free scan

suz2285 · 02/02/2023 16:21

Yeah totally agree with everyone they should always try internal if they can't see external, esp as it's so early on! They do sound awful though, how unprofessional! If you can afford to wait and then re-pay i'd just book somewhere else for a few weeks time, but that few weeks waiting is gonna suck, or you could try the EPU and say you had an early scan and they couldnt see anything and see if they'll scan you but i've heard a lot of them just say to wait unless you're further along with bleeding or other symptoms.... it's such a minefield

Raizelrea · 02/02/2023 16:25

@PCOSunfortunately I had a bit of brown spotting today as well, trying to stay optimistic about it - it's all we can do. Having symptoms is reassuring at least, I was actually sick this afternoon which is gross but I'm grateful.

@Bubblemachiene Just echoing what others said, I was told all scans before 7-8 weeks should be internal as unlikely to ser much on the traditional one. Sounds like the place you went to is a bit pants if they didn't even consider that. I'd try to rebook elsewhere but check whether they'd do an internal scan first, or wait till 8 weeks as by then you may have more luck with the external scan.

northernmam · 02/02/2023 16:27

@Bubblemachiene they sound so unprofessional! I've never had an early scan before but my friend who has had them and she said the difference between what she saw on the external compared to the internal was unbelievable. Please try not to worry too much, although it's easier said than done xx

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 16:50

I don't think il go back there
I have soreness/ cramps now where she's pressed hard with scanner
I will prob end up paying more and going for a trans vaginal scan next week.

PBandJs · 02/02/2023 18:33

@Bubblemachiene sorry to hear this, it sounds like a very insensitive place, and hopefully it’s more their rushing and incompetence that they didn’t manage to get a good view.

Thinking on what you’ve said about the bladder not being full enough to push the uterus up, my external scan may have been clearer because I was literally about to wet myself. I’d drunk so much I couldn’t walk properly and I’m pretty sure I even dribbled a little when she pressed on my bladder 🫣 so maybe it does have quite an effect on what you can see.

but yes definitely echo what everyone says about internal. Our image kept changing on the the abdominal one, like the sac would go all black then the white baby bit would pop up again when she moved it. on internal it was a lot more consistent.

PCOSunfortunately · 02/02/2023 19:20

@Maraudingmarauders you're well ahead of some us ain't you! Can't wait to see your scan I bet you're too excited ain't you. Going to be the size of a strawberry 🥰🍓

Tinkerbell098 · 02/02/2023 15:02

@Maraudingmarauders how strange! The past two days I was convinced there's a dead carcass in the kitchen and I've been smelling something rotting away too!! Seems to have passed now though.

How odd! I'm sort of glad you have it too because I feel less mad, but sorry you're also experiencing it!

Haha I just found out a little late, and my EDD is 3rd September. I'll be interested to know if that's real though.
I had a normal period end of November / start of December. Then was 5 days late for my next period. I tested and got a negative. Had a small bleed that evening, thought it start of my period, and bled a little the next day too (TMI: brownish and watery) then stopped. I was confused but as id had a negative test (with clear blue words!) I assumed I was having a weird period. Then about 2 weeks later started feeling dreadfully sick. Tested, expecting nothing as it would be too early for that month, and then got 3 strong positives in a row including a 3+ on clear blue 🤔 so had my booking in and put down as 7+4 at the time of appointment but reality is I might be at least a week earlier than that because ovulating late might have explained the negative test. Who knows 😏

PCOSunfortunately · 02/02/2023 20:19

@Maraudingmarauders what a lovely surprise specially when you thought you was out that month 🥰

@Raizelrea sorry to hear you've been spotting to 😢 fingers crossed everything's okay with us ❤️ xxx

Laul89 · 02/02/2023 21:01

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all doing well.

For those wondering about the midwife.. I had to call my GP too (last Tuesday) and the midwife rang me today. So was just over a week. She said she wanted to see me next week so I’m booked in for next Friday when I’ll be nearly 8 weeks. We are thinking of booking our private scan for the 19th when I’ll be nearly 9 weeks! Would like to do it a week earlier on the 12th but we’ve booked 3 nights away with friends, my husband has mentioned us just staying 2 nights and coming back on the Sunday, then we can have the scan (and also cos I’ll be the only sober one all weekend which will be fun 🤪)

Daisy155 · 02/02/2023 21:35

@Bubblemachiene I am sorry you went through this and I hope you feel much better physically after she pressed so hard!

that is so unprofessional but I want you to know my last scan I drank lots of water and she did the external scan and there was just the sack

She then told me to empty my bladder and I had an internal scan and that’s when she saw the baby and heartbeat!

Most of us are too early to see the baby through external scans! And definitely contact EPU if you need to and see what they say! You maybe surprised if no then book your scan elsewhere xx

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 22:05

Thanks @Daisy155
How many weeks we're you on that scan?
I'm working tomorrow
I may call epu the weekend or wait until Tuesday as I'm working Monday too

colourPink · 03/02/2023 06:54

@Bubblemachiene sorry to hear it was such a rubbish experience! I would definitely re-book for somewhere else. Try not to worry about the spotting. I read somewhere that unless it fills up a tampon/pad then it's very likely nothing to worry about!

Still no nausea for me 🤞🏼but I am always SO tired. Really struggling with the fatigue. It was HARD to get out of bed this morning. I'm a teacher so my work days are really, really full on. I can't scale things back - it's just not possible in my job. Hoping it'll ease up soon!

I feel bad for my husband. I get home and go into zombie mode every night for the last two weeks. I try and be more present but work is taking every single ounce of emery I have.

What did people do to have more energy?

Also stated looking at maternity and how much we'll need to save for me to have a half decent amount of time off with the baby and now I'm freaking out! I don't know how we'll do it! Now with what we need to buy before. My husband wage doesn't even cover all out outgoings 😬
