5 weeks today! Sep 23 Thread

Hi all, I found out I am expecting my second baby on Wednesday, and I'm 5 weeks today. Early days, but wanted to start a thread for those with similar due dates so we can go through the motions together. ☺️
I'm due 10th September. My little boy will be 2 and 3 quarters by then, so a good little age gap.

Any anxieties? For me, less so about the pregnancy this time around, far more chill. My anxiety is surrounding timing. Baby 2 wasn't planned for just now, but a happy surprise and very much wanted. However, the most instrumental career opportunity for me is coming up in the next 2-4 months or so, and I was hoping to get this role. It may or may not have come off anyway, but I don't want my pregnancy to be the determining factor (I don't think my company would outwardly discriminate, but they might find a 'business reason' I wasn't successful), so I ideally need to keep my pregnancy hidden from work for as long as possible. If I get the role, I will have no worries in taking Mat leave around August and return next year, as I know I'll do a damn good job for them once I'm back, and for the foreseeable future. Anyway... that's my one thing at the mo! ☺️

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

@Bubblemachiene I was referred to them a week gone Monday and still haven't heard anything from them.

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 07:10

@PBandJs would you recommend an early scan with it just looking like a little blob at this stage? I don't know whether to go or wait. What was the place called you went? Were they reassuring? The reviews on the one by me are not all good so I'm really worried about going but want to see there's something there.

I got one at 6w5d I think it's definitely worth it!!!

@Sadiexox ah that's amazing
Thanks I think il call then see if any slots left. I'd have to go on my own tho so bit nervous.

suz2285 · 02/02/2023 08:34

@northernmam Friday for me too! Feels like it's dragging, I'm also worried as I know week 6-9 can potentially be early miscarriage stage... eeee

@Bubblemachiene that's so weird that everyone is so different in terms of getting booked in, I tried to call the doc and after waiting in a queue for 10 mins I gave up and did an online consult, the midwife called me back later that day to book me in, but it's not until 27th feb which will be 9 weeks for me, so I guess it depends when they schedule their appointments, I know some self refer directly to the midwife but we have to call the GP here.... also some people seem to have pre booking appointments but ours are just all done at once!

We're still debating an early scan but I'm thinking 8 weeks, so a few weeks to go! The places near me have heaps of availability so I'll just book it a few days before I think! And then at least when I go see the midwife I'll be sure the baby is ok in there 🤞😂

northernmam · 02/02/2023 08:37

@suz2285 oh I try not to look at stuff like that as it would just make me worry more!

We have booked an early scan for 17th feb when I'll be 8 weeks exactly and thought it'd give us a better chance of seeing more and less chance of having to go back if they couldn't find what they were looking for if that makes sense. We've purely booked one because we found out so so early this time and I feel some reassurance would really help me.

PCOSunfortunately · 02/02/2023 08:49

@Bubblemachiene I called my doctors and didn't get further than the reception desk. They said midwife appointments are not until 10 weeks. They call them a new mom appointment so the lady on reception booked me in for the 22nd feb.

@northernmam I don't know how you're going to cope with a 1 year old well 2 year old once the little ones born. You're very brave 🥰 xxx

northernmam · 02/02/2023 08:52

@PCOSunfortunately haha I'm under no illusion it'll be easy, but will be worth it 😊 xx

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 08:57

@suz2285 the one near me has offer on today £35 so the slots go fast, last week they had offer £22.50 but I was too early.
I'm sure they'll do that one again next week but I'm too impatient to wait haha.
I'm 6+4 today

suz2285 · 02/02/2023 08:57

@northernmam I've stopped looking up stats now as it made me feel worse! 😂 8 weeks sound perfect for a scan and my plan is to try and do the same! Also I'm slightly terrified it's gonna be twins in there! Hahah

suz2285 · 02/02/2023 08:58

@Bubblemachiene wish mine had those offers! Maybe they'll have a valentines offer on! Hahah mine has been the same price since I started looking I think it's £70!

winningeasy · 02/02/2023 09:02

@northernmam will also have two under two with new baby ❤️

northernmam · 02/02/2023 09:32

@suz2285 I don't blame you, the last thing you need is to have extra worry! Haha if there is, you'll have a while to get your head around it at least 😂

@winningeasy awww how lovely! I know it'll be hard but I really hope the smaller age gap will mean they grow up close 😊

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 10:02

Hey all I've booked In for 2.15pm.
Pretty nervous now, as it did have some bad reviews and I'm going alone. Would feel more at ease if it was in hospital.

Daisy0909 · 02/02/2023 10:09

@Raizelrea thank you! Yes were planning on keeping a secret from families until 12 weeks, just purely because both our sisters went through a couple of miscarriages I've always wanted to wait until we've seen/heard baby's heartbeat. It works out at around mothers day too which will be a lovely surprise for our mums!

@Daisy155 thank you! :) Yes it's crazy the length of cycles, I did tell the lady on the phone when I self referred as she thought I was 2 weeks ahead of where I actually am... I said to my partner though I'll just leave it now when it comes to dating scan as it might mean I get a scan at 10 weeks instead of 12!

northernmam · 02/02/2023 10:11

@Bubblemachiene hope all goes well! Keep us updated 😊 xx

suz2285 · 02/02/2023 10:32

@Bubblemachiene good luck I'm sure it'll be totally fine, the ones here the sono people are all fully qualified and either used to or still do also work in hospitals, so it will be fine I'm sure! Let us know!

PBandJs · 02/02/2023 12:11

Thank you all for lovely messages re: scan and cyst. Sorry for delay, nausea has fully hit and combined with no appetite it’s not been a fun couple of days!

@Bubblemachiene i really do recommend, I was 6 weeks on the dot and the lady was really pleased with how strong the heartbeat was and got a few pics which really eased our minds. She did external first but said baby was too small to measure externally so then she did an internal one. She said she could hear the heartbeat even through external scan and turned it on for us but to us it didn’t sound like anything. Looking forward to hear how you get on ❤️

had an odd call with my GP practice, called reception and said It’s my first pregnancy how did I go about getting an appt cos NHS website said to tell my GP. The receptionist hesitated then said no we don’t deal with this, the hospital will call you and I was like but they don’t know I’m pregnant so how will they know to call me… she said ah yeh ok maybe call them and tell them what’s happened. What’s happened?!? Made it sound like I’ve had an accident or something. I’m sure they don’t want the full details of how it happened 🤣 so anyway yeah I chose hospital myself and filled in their form. Waiting for them to come back to me.

Maraudingmarauders · 02/02/2023 13:03

@PBandJs what's happened 😂thats funny. Though annoying she was so unhelpful! I can't fault mine, they told me immediately what the process was and sent me a link through to the Web page I needed.

Feeling much less nauseous today (so immediately panicking) but I still feel disgusted by the idea of a cup of tea, so holding onto that 😅 I did have a hot chocolate this morning though which I haven't fancied for a while.
I've got my private scan on Saturday 9+6 so not too long to wait for some kind of confirmation at least. Nervous now.

suz2285 · 02/02/2023 14:49

@Maraudingmarauders my tea aversion isn't so bad this week, managing a couple of them instead of just one or half of one! I've been feeling slightly better this week, the odd wave of not feeling right, def more emotional and still sore boobs, and also the smells, I can smell everything! My car smells like dogs and i've no idea how as I don't have dogs and there's never been a dog in the car, and I've never smelt that smell before. No idea what is going on!

Good luck for your scan! so scary and exciting 😀

Tinkerbell098 · 02/02/2023 15:02

@Maraudingmarauders how strange! The past two days I was convinced there's a dead carcass in the kitchen and I've been smelling something rotting away too!! Seems to have passed now though.

Tinkerbell098 · 02/02/2023 15:15

@Bubblemachiene aww how exciting! All the best. Let us know how it goes X

Bubblemachiene · 02/02/2023 15:15

Hi all.
I've been, she couldn't see anything just the sack 😕. Said might be too early but according to flo I'm 6+4.
Also the bad reviews were all true it was so rushed, my belly is sore now too

suz2285 · 02/02/2023 15:21

@Bubblemachiene ah that sucks, i think even the dates being out by a few days makes a difference, sorry it was a rubbish experience as well... that's not good! will you wait a few weeks and go back somewhere else? Hope you're ok x

PCOSunfortunately · 02/02/2023 15:30

@Bubblemachiene oh no how disappointing 😢 yes it definitely could be because you're really early. Did you have internal or just external?

I've wiped again and the tiniest amount of brown blood again I'd say no bigger than the nib on the end of your pen but it's there again!
Fingers crossed it's just old blood leaving me. Boobs still hurt and I've felt a little more nauseous today 😞🥰

I'm not a fan of hot drink either I have my coffee in the morning but don't want anything else all day
