Pregant after miscarriage - support thread

Hi everyone,

I'm new to posting on mumsnet, but have spent plenty of time reading through others' conversations for reassurance when anxious, and this seems like such a friendly place!

I've just found out I'm pregnant again after the miscarriage of my first at 11 weeks in August. I would love to connect with other people in a similar situation.

I'm feeling relatively ok, i.e. not totally panicked all the time, about this one, but I know it's going to be hard. I really find it hard to believe sometimes that this could work out.

Please send a comment if you're in a similar situation and would like to share/receive some support!

I'm so sorry @loulouhind that must be an awful worry, what did the doctors say about next steps? Hope you're able to look after yourself. Pregnancy is a bloody nightmare for anxiety.

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/06/2023 10:13

@suz2285 I wouldn't bother looking at the gestational one, carbs are the thing that spikes the sugars the most, it is hard when pregnant though because when you feel sick you don't necessarily care what you eat as long as you're eating something!
@tulipsunday I've got a bit of a belly already anyway so you can't see my bloat yet I don't think 😂🙈 I'm exhausted today!!

I've just jumped on the air fryer bandwagon! I'm so excited 😂 hopefully make things easier as well when I'm feeling rubbish and cba to cook!!

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/06/2023 10:14

@loulouhind so sorry to hear this

My app isn't updating properly so not seeing everyone's posts properly

loulouhind · 20/06/2023 10:30

They were uncertain on seeing a heartbeat too 😢

suz2285 · 20/06/2023 10:57

@tulipsunday so true, i've no idea what to eat i'm just snacking on fruit, biscuits, crisps and bread basically!! Meals are a struggle, i've come into work today with no lunch so i need to find something at M&S that sounds good.... we shall see!

I've got my blood test next week, still waiting my scan date but should be in soon.. I've got Rh -ve blood and I think here they just give you the anti-d anyway at 28 weeks they don't bother to check babies blood, or so i've heard anyway! My husband is +ve so i reckon i'll need it anyway. Apparently it's really sore! which is just great....

@loulouhind sorry to hear that, do you have to go back for another scan again? hope you're ok x

loulouhind · 20/06/2023 11:10

@suz2285 rescan in 8 days. Doesn’t really look good though. We already had our 7 week scan put back two weeks as she was measuring 5 weeks. So today was our 7/9 week scan

ChloeN · 20/06/2023 11:29

@suz2285 I absolutely hate needles but it really wasn’t bad at all, someone told me it was really painful and their arm ached for a week but I found it fine!

@loulouhind sorry to hear lovely xx

tulipsunday · 20/06/2023 11:35

@loulouhind so so sorry that things aren't looking good ❤️ hopefully you can be out of this horrible limbo period soon

tulipsunday · 20/06/2023 11:35

@suz2285 yeh I didn't find it particularly stingy either last time so hopefully will be the case again

suz2285 · 20/06/2023 11:55

@loulouhind the waiting is the worst part, i'm so sorry you're going through this... everything crossed that baby catches up

@tulipsunday @ChloeN that's interesting, i dont mind needles and not really squeemish but the girl in the office across from mine had hers last week after she fell at 20+ weeks in the car park! i'm sure she said it was in her bum tho, and she cried, haha, she did say she was worried about labour after crying at the injection 😂

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/06/2023 12:06

@loulouhind sorry to hear this.

@suz2285 @tulipsunday yes I've heard the anti d injections are in the bum or the thigh I think. My blood type is positive that's all I remember...the only injections I absolutely hated was the steroid ones! So so painful!

ChloeN · 20/06/2023 13:40

@Brokenpancreas94 I heard the same but both of mine were just in my arm thankfully 🤣

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/06/2023 14:27

@ChloeN oh that's good! Hoping I don't need the steroids this time round 😂😬x

tulipsunday · 20/06/2023 15:26

Oh yeh is it the steroid ones you have in your tummy post birth sometimes? Didn't like those stingy little buggers 😂 hopefully can avoid those this time

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/06/2023 15:32

@tulipsunday no, steroid injections in the thighs before giving birth it's to help baby's lungs. I had to have them last time as I was induced at 33+6 but that failed so ended up in a c section at 34 weeks!
Although the clotting ones that you're referring to after birth aren't great either 😂🙈

moosey89 · 20/06/2023 16:06

Just found out my partner's brother/sister in law are expecting (only 11 weeks, but still makes it 4-5 weeks ahead of us). And now I can't shake the feeling that their pregnancy will work and ours won't. This anxiety is horrible, I wasn't expecting that news but I also wouldn't have thought it would shake me this much 😓

suz2285 · 20/06/2023 16:12

@moosey89 its so hard, especially when other people announce a lot earlier than you are comfortable with - i've seen people announcing at like 8-9 weeks and just thinking oh god this might not end well.... I know what you mean though , its weird, the last pregnancy group i was in when people miscarry you think ok well that's 2-3 people so maybe I won't be unlucky, out of x amount of people it'll only be y amount that have issues, but it's just the thinking that happens after loss i think

it is helpful to remember that the uterus has no memory and this is a different pregnancy and no one else's pregnancy and something that happens to someone else has no correlation on your situation, however it's not that simple in reality we all know....

when i called up the GP after i got my positive this time, they were kind, but they said nothing they can do and i've just got to hope this is a viable pregnancy, which I guess is all anyone can ever do.... everything crossed for you, i hope this ramble makes some sort of sense! 😂hugs

WitcheryDivine · 20/06/2023 16:20

I don't know if it helped Moosey but I really appreciated reading it, thank you xx

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/06/2023 16:22

@moosey89 it's hard isn't it, I'm the same! And then I'm thinking well why can't ours just go well?!

@suz2285 I've lost count how many times medical professionals have told me now that there's nothing they can do to stop a MC and if it happens it happens, doesn't make us feel any better though does it

moosey89 · 20/06/2023 16:41

@suz2285 that made total sense and very much sums up how I feel too! Thank you for sharing, it means a lot and helps remind me I'm not alone and not going mad.

The one thing my brain is letting me really cling on to is that this is a different partner, one I feel infinitely better with and more connected to. So maybe, just maybe, life will throw me a rope and let this pregnancy succeed x

ChloeN · 20/06/2023 17:10

@Brokenpancreas94 you poor thing you seem to have all the problems in pregnancy🙈

suz2285 · 20/06/2023 17:23

@moosey89 everything crossed for you 🤞

@Brokenpancreas94 yeah it sucks cos we all know if it happens it happens but no one wants it to be them it happens to! I've been the one in 4, now I want to be the other 3 please 😂😂

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/06/2023 17:38

@moosey89 everything crossed for you, for all of us! 🥰xx

@ChloeN good ole type 1 diabetes 🙄🙈 just hoping I don't get carpal tunnel like I did in my first pregnancy 😬xx

Brokenpancreas94 · 20/06/2023 17:38

@suz2285 me too! Let's hope we are!! Xxx

tulipsunday · 20/06/2023 18:17

@moosey89 completely relate to how you are feeling. My sister is due ten days before me. She has had her 12wk scan and all well and got another week until mine 😬
