Pregant after miscarriage - support thread

Hi everyone,

I'm new to posting on mumsnet, but have spent plenty of time reading through others' conversations for reassurance when anxious, and this seems like such a friendly place!

I've just found out I'm pregnant again after the miscarriage of my first at 11 weeks in August. I would love to connect with other people in a similar situation.

I'm feeling relatively ok, i.e. not totally panicked all the time, about this one, but I know it's going to be hard. I really find it hard to believe sometimes that this could work out.

Please send a comment if you're in a similar situation and would like to share/receive some support!

@suz2285 hope so! 🤞🏻and glad you're scan went well ❤️

tulipsunday · 17/06/2023 09:52

@suz2285 amazing so glad your scan went well. @Brokenpancreas94 how you doing today?

Brokenpancreas94 · 17/06/2023 10:12

@tulipsunday I'm okay thank you, not had anymore discharge, hopefully it's just that bleed making its way out....I really shouldn't google though!! Comes up with mixed answers 😩
Hope you're doing okay xx

Brokenpancreas94 · 17/06/2023 16:29

Got the results for my diabetic eye screening that I had done the other day...I have signs of maculopathy and am being referred to hospital, so that's another thing to worry about 😞

tulipsunday · 17/06/2023 19:04

@Brokenpancreas94 ah god that's annoying. Glad the discharge seems to have stopped though.

Had a nice time at my parents' telling them about the pregnancy. Seemed v happy to be having two new grandchildren and shocked they will be so close. Definitely felt like I kept saying things like 'all being well...' 'if it works out etc' need to try and be a bit more confident but don't think I will be until 12 wk scan.

Brokenpancreas94 · 17/06/2023 19:11

@tulipsunday glad it went well! I'm the same, like even with my partner I'm saying "hopefully" or "if it happens" it's so hard not to isn't it xx

suz2285 · 17/06/2023 19:59

@tulipsunday I was the same after I told
Mum yesterday, kept saying if and all being well etc, but I did tell her why im saying it like that so she understands....

@Brokenpancreas94 hope the eyes aren't bad and hopefully nothing to worry about

I'm finding myself much more grouchy and easily irritated now, had a bunch of stuff planned to do today and due to one job taking hours longer than planned and husband and I snapping at each other I didn't get much done and now we're both grumpy, he's gone out to chip some balls at the golf course and I had a bath, I'm exhausted now tho

Brokenpancreas94 · 17/06/2023 20:18

@suz2285 honestly, I think I'm more worried about my eyes now, really really don't want to have to have injections in my eyes, but obviously don't want to go blind! Apparently pregnancy can progress retinopathy/maculopathy, but the letters they send are also very scaremongering!! I posted on a few T1 groups and a lot of people have said that the letters just scare people and boy does it work, something must be going on though if they're actually referring me to the hospital! Just argh it's never ending!

Sorry to hear about your day, and snapping with your husband! I'm the same though getting very irritable and snappy too!

tulipsunday · 18/06/2023 12:07

@Brokenpancreas94 that is so frustrating about the eye issue sounds like you have been through so much already.

@suz2285 hope you have a better day today

Really struggling with the energy for parenting today 🥱 put my son in front of the TV so I can have a bit of a break. Heat here doesn't help.

Brokenpancreas94 · 18/06/2023 18:13

@tulipsunday I've posted on a few diabetes forums and a lot of people have said that there's has resolved after giving birth, so hopefully! Although there were a few horror stories!!
I'm feeling tired, emotional and nauseous today! Trying to up my water intake too but hate the taste of water, well I don't mind it but it's not hitting the spot! I have some squash but it gets boring, can't win 😂

tulipsunday · 18/06/2023 19:46

@Brokenpancreas94 sorry you feel crap. Nausea waves just seem a bit more random now rather than be relating to empty stomach. Really hope I can get some energy back as my husband is going away on Wednesday for 5days so need to be able to juggle child work dog etc. xx

suz2285 · 18/06/2023 20:12

@tulipsunday @Brokenpancreas94 I had random nausea overnight last night had to get up and get a snack bar but then I felt meh eating it so ate half and had the rest for breakfast before I got up this morning but I've been snacky all morning, had my breakfast then was hungry for lunch a couple of hours later

I was at the beach today on the paddleboard but the waves were making my stomach feel weird 😂 so I came back in for a bit and ate and then went back out again... but couldn't tell anyone why I was a bit fragile! I mean I didn't feel awful but I def didn't feel right!

I'm exhausted now after a busy day!

Brokenpancreas94 · 18/06/2023 20:22

@suz2285 @tulipsunday I took cyclizine and it's helped a tiny bit made me more drowsy than anything though 😂🙈 I fancy some ice cold lemonade but don't have any 😂🙄
Got some gas pain now, I think feeling uncomfortable.

Hope you had fun paddle boarding!

Having no energy is hard isn't it!! Xx

Brokenpancreas94 · 19/06/2023 14:21

Hope everyone's okay today...

Went to specsavers this morning, they looked at the back of my eyes too and said that there's a few little bleeds there but it should be okay and to just see what the hospital says. Feeling really tired today too

suz2285 · 19/06/2023 15:07

@Brokenpancreas94 good news! Let's hope all ok 🤞 cyclizine def makes you sleepy so it's likely that! Maybe that's why I've been a bit more energetic since I've not been feeling so sick I haven't been taking anything and feeling way more awake!

I've been nauseous overnight and into this morning again, was a thought coming into work but feeling ok now as long as I keep eating 😂

Brokenpancreas94 · 19/06/2023 20:17

@suz2285 yeah it must be the cyclizine then, as it's worn off now!
I really craved McDonald's nuggets earlier, they had a deal on the app 6 for £1.39 I think it was...got some and still felt sick 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️can't win!
Extremely bloated tonight though!

suz2285 · 19/06/2023 20:46

@Brokenpancreas94 I felt awful tonight again, took a tablet and struggling to keep my eyes open now so I've gone off to bed! Dinner was chips and mushrooms and a bit of bread 😂 cos I didn't know at all what I fancied!! (Nothing)

Brokenpancreas94 · 19/06/2023 20:56

@suz2285 my bowels seem really weak the last few days as well that's not helping, don't know if it's a side effect of the many many medications I'm now on or hormones 😂🤦🏼‍♀️
I'm trying to go low carb now well lower!

suz2285 · 20/06/2023 06:27

@Brokenpancreas94 I really need to lower my carbs too but I do not want so many of the things I'd normally eat low carb so it's not happening at the mo! I just want bread and potatoes

Honestly I looked up the gestational diabetes diet online and on the nhs website and it says to base your meals on rice, potatoes and oats, starchy food... then says to choose whole grain breads and pasta etc, seems weird as I normally wouldn't eat loads of those foods anyway! I generally don't eat loads of carbs but I'm eating much more bread right now 😂

tulipsunday · 20/06/2023 07:05

@Brokenpancreas94 oh god yeh the bloating I look so pregnant by the evening. Like I have a football up my top 😂

Had to go and get some sour skittles yesterday as felt like sweets 😂 Normally more a chocolate girl

suz2285 · 20/06/2023 07:27

@Brokenpancreas94 haha yeah the bloating so much fun!

I've gone off chocolate, have hardly had any the last few months! I'm off so many of the things I normally want to eat, such a weird time! I've got to try and sort out something for lunch now and I've no idea what! And then I've got chicken for dinner but that's as far as that plan has got yet also 😂🙈

suz2285 · 20/06/2023 07:27

@tulipsunday haha sorry tagged the wrong person there 😂😂

tulipsunday · 20/06/2023 09:47

@suz2285 I am finding meal planning v difficult as just don't fancy anything 'proper' or 'nutritious'. Did manage to stomach some lasagna over the last few nights but that has gone now so need to think of something else 😁

tulipsunday · 20/06/2023 09:51

Blood test this morning as part of the combined screening. Think get results at 12wk scan next week 😬 feels like quite a lot of blood tests as I have a negative blood type so will need another blood test at some point to see if I need Anti D injections like I did with my son. So clever how they can tell the baby's blood type.

loulouhind · 20/06/2023 09:57

So we had our 7 week scan today which should be our 9 week. Not looking good. Baby has grown since last scan, but not enough. Also half the size she should be at 7 weeks measuring at 4.6mm
