I’ve been lurking on this thread for a while, but now that we’re at 13 weeks and all scans have been pronounced fine, I’m dipping my toe in!

I’ve had a straightforward pregnancy so far, a bit of queasiness and mostly feeling exhausted but otherwise fine. Back to work this week and I’m not sure if my boss was eyeing me suspiciously out if I’m paranoid: ‘One too many mince pies over Christmas or is she pregnant, hmmm?!!’

Has anyone told work yet and how do you broach the subject?

Olegia · 05/01/2023 11:43

Hi all!
Had my 12 week scan exactly a week ago today, and all was looking good (heartbeat, size everything), except since a few hours ago I've had a bit of brownish discharge. No cramps, but perhaps a mildly sore back....Not much, and nothing bright red, but man is this scary!
I immediately called the midwives, who said about 1 in 5 women can experience this. If it gets worse at all they told me to go in and they can check for the heartbeat... Absolutely terrified

Has anyone experienced something similar?

99pctpractice · 05/01/2023 11:47

Hello @BackOfTheMum5net great news re the scan, I had my 12w nuchal scan today too and was also v relieved to find there is still a heartbeat and there is no excess fluid behind the neck, so that combined with harmony test results means we're ready to start telling people.....

I'm going to have to tell my work because I'm rewriting our mat leave policy (because someone else at work is pregnant) and I think it would be a bit disingenuous to finalise it without telling my boss I'm also pregnant. Last time I waited until 20 weeks before saying anything to work though...

@Summersun3 I did find that my back got bigger through my last pregnancy as my ribs expanded towards the end, so some of the bras I had bought no longer fit. Also, when breastfeeding started and my milk came in my boobs grew insanely, though they did normalise a bit after that! depends on how much support you need, but i have found nonwired bralettes are super comfy and have a bit more flexibility if you grow...

RandomCatGenerator · 05/01/2023 13:59

@Summersun3 same as @99pctpractice, in my last pregnancy I used bralettes to deal with the fact my boobs were quite sore and kept growing, and to deal with the fact I felt really hot a lot of the time and found bras uncomfortable when sweaty. I bought several from Bravissimo as I’m a FF when not pregnant and went up to a H when breastfeeding. They’re also nice and soft so I found them gentler on sore breastfeeding nipples.

@BackOfTheMum5net I think legally you are supposed to tell your employer by 15 weeks; not doing so can have repercussions for maternity leave length (so my public sector employment contract says anyway). I told mine today as I actually got a new boss today (old boss just retired) so would have felt weird not to. I did actually tell my old boss at 7 weeks though as my nausea was so unbearably bad that it was sometimes hard to work. I realise that’s unusual.

99pctpractice · 05/01/2023 14:06

Thanks @RandomCatGenerator - just to clarify that legally you have to tell your employer 15 weeks before the beginning of the week your baby is due not when you're 15 weeks pregnant...

Ahhh. I must have misread. Or our HR documents are wrong… many thanks for clarifying!

RandomCatGenerator · 05/01/2023 14:08

So sorry to give out incorrect info 😳

BackOfTheMum5net · 05/01/2023 14:40

@RandomCatGenerator You're not re-writing the policy to include extra chocolate breaks for pregnant employees and regular nap breaks?! Very restrained of you!

I'm not very tall, so I think I might start to show soon. Not sure what the best way to approach it is - so far with friends and family we've surprised people by randomly showing them a scan but I'm guessing that's not very professional!

BackOfTheMum5net · 05/01/2023 14:49

That should've been @99pctpractice ! So many threads to keep count of :)

PerksOfBeingRach · 05/01/2023 18:01

@BackOfTheMum5net I told my line manager and the head teacher very early (around 9/10 weeks). It was much earlier than I wanted but because I’m a teacher and needed time off work I had to provide a hospital letter showing that my appointment was legit (we aren’t allowed time off for routine drs appointments normally) which then had to be signed off by both. Obviously that letter mentioned midwife and obstetrics so I couldn’t really avoid it! They were really supportive though and it’s been helpful to have a couple of people on call when I’ve felt nauseous during classes (the morning sickness was dreadful for a while).

MamaSJ15 · 06/01/2023 13:25

Hi all, so had my 12 week scan yesterday, all looking good. They put my dates within 2 days of the original dates so that's good. 12+2 today and due date now 19th July. Will share for anyone who'd like to see 😊

So. I have haemorrhoids. Isn’t pregnancy a joy.

BabyFour2023 · 06/01/2023 13:27

@MamaSJ15 fantastic news, really pleased for you that all is well! How are you feeling? Gorgeous scan. Mine is 16th so not long to wait now.

septembersapphire7 · 06/01/2023 13:42

Beautiful scan @MamaSJ15 🤗
always amazes me when I see them

Losti121623 · 06/01/2023 21:02

Hope you’re all well ladies! Had my scan yesterday at 13weeks & couldn’t believe how much baby had grown in the past few weeks. Unfortunately my sickness is back again with vengeance but I think this cough I have atm is setting it off 😣 any one else still fighting the nausea? I’m sure I was feeling so much better by this point with my other pregnancies 😦

Such beautiful scans @MamaSJ15 and @Losti121623!!!! isn’t it amazing how an early scan is a little bean and then a 12 week looks like a proper human!!!

so happy for you both! Mine is on Wednesday!

Would someone like to make a new thread? We’re about to run out of room on this one but I don’t want to be presumptuous.
