Hi @GarlicCrackers everyone is over on the Facebook group if you want to join that

I did see a couple of links but alas they don't work for me. But I would definitely join

@GarlicCrackers I'm here! Don't really use Facebook! I'm due 21st Feb. Beginning to get everything ready although lots still to buy etc. I have my 34 week midwife app next week. All okay at the moment except for carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists caused by the extra fluids in my body. Also sometimes my bump is incredibly hard and tight - I don't get cramps though... not sure if it's Braxton Hicks, will see what the midwife says next week.

Fairly certain that is a BH. Mine likes to practice in the middle of the night, wake up with a rock hard tummy

@GarlicCrackers this link should work :)

@FlyOnTheWall89 also not a FB user. Was a shame when this page upped and died! Due 2nd Feb. Have now morphed into demented, overly emotional nocturnal monster. Sounds like BH alright, good you can sense them I guess? Best of luck with appointments etc & the last few weeks.

Due date buddies!

Ha! 🙌 My previous two went fully over, +14 and +10, so I’m not expecting any great shakes any time soon, how are you feeling?! This time around I am so pathetic, exhausted! I woke up feeling fine today and within an hour was wobbly & retching in the downstairs loo, don’t know wtf that’s all about? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Think this time of year is a pretty crap time to be heading towards the finish line. I hope you’re faring well and haven’t quite capitulated yet!!!

Peonies94 · 09/01/2023 16:00

@Akmc 14 and 10 days over! That’s not good, I’m nervous about that! I really don’t want to do this for another 6 weeks, 4 is bad enough!
sickness and absolute exhaustion now, ready for the end! 37 weeks on Thursday!

It’s totally shit at the time but then you’re just smitten and all is forgiven. Evil geniuses, children are! 😂 I remember with my first, having convinced myself that since neither my mother nor mother in law had ever come close to term, I’d be the same, I sat down at my 40 week appointment and when the midwife asked how I was, I exploded in to ugly wet crying! @Peonies94 hopefully your energy is holding up, sleeping is ok, heartburn isn’t too bad, not getting too many muscle/joint twinges… or even just one of those things? 🥳 we’re on the home straight!

Peonies94 · 10/01/2023 17:50

@Akmc this is my first and I’m convinced I’m going to be 2 weeks over! Started maternity leave early, so I’ve been in maternity leave since before Christmas! It feels like such a waste to have 7 and a half weeks off with no baby, so hopefully it’ll only be 5 and a half 🤣!
heartburn and sickness is awful, but my pain has eased loads since being off work! In full nesting mode now and on a mission to get the house sorted! We are indeed! When are you due?

Bunny2006 · 10/01/2023 19:04

I'm due on 1st Feb, just had an appointment and was booked am appointment on 3rs Feb, wasn't told what for just to go book it at the desk. I asked what that appointment will be for and was told it was for an induction! I'd rather decline induction if all seems well, especially at only 2 days past my due date and there is no medical reason now to say I should have an induction, it's just routine. I'm actually hoping she isn't early as I don't start maternity for another 2 weeks and I'd like a little bit of time beforehand!

blibbyblobb · 10/01/2023 20:37

So nice to see this thread active again, im also not on FB.

My due date is mid feb, but i have gestational diabetes 😭 insulin controlled (literally controlled in the last few days) but i will be getting induced around start of Feb... Other than the GD i think I'm doing OK, bit of fatigue but a afternoon nap helps with that 😊 do get frustrated when i camt bend and reach stuff tho haha

Peonies94 · 11/01/2023 00:01

@Bunny2006 that’s odd! Did they explain why? Usually in low risk pregnancies they let you go further, though seems different everywhere! It’s 12days over in my trust to be able to have an Induction, but I actually want to have one at 7 days over! You have a choice though, so absolutely only have one of thats what you want to do!

OP posts:
Akmc · 11/01/2023 00:42

@Bunny2006 I mean there’s proactivity and then there’s that! I find this part so incredibly difficult what with the unpredictability at every turn, but if you have strong feelings you’d like to wait they should listen, hopefully. It’s +10 days here I think, if no other concerns. Hope you’re able to get an explanation and sympathetic ear so you can choose a different date. @blibbyblobb 👍 glad you’re holding up well and fingers crossed you can get there without too much fatigue between now and Feb! I have a photo from my first pregnancy of the time I couldn’t tie my own shoelaces! 😂 When you’re zipping up and down in a couple months’ time it’ll be cause dor much hilarity! @Peonies94 we’re all due at roughly the same time and yet I’ve not been able to speak to MW about birth options, was told it would be ‘next’ appointment at the last two. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Peonies94 · 11/01/2023 07:12

@Akmc same! It’s 38 weeks here to discuss birth plan, I last saw midwife at 35 weeks so next appointment is 38 weeks and I’m told I’ll be discussing birth lab then! Have you had 38 week appointment date given yet? Maybe it’ll be then? Hope you do it soon !

Hi everyone! I can’t believe how close we all are now. During the first trimester nausea I thought this part would never get here. Now I’m beyond excited to meet our baby boy. 🥰 I’m booked in for a CS next Friday so not long to wait now!
@Bunny2006 some friends of ours had something similar happen to them. In their case, after much probing, they were able to find out that the trust wanted to induce them at that particular point because the labour ward was forecast to be less busy at that point in time. There was nothing more to it than that so they declined and are seeing how things progress naturally. She has GD so is having regular appointments.
Nobody has really asked us for our birth plan either but not sure if it’s different with an ECS. We’ve raised it during appointments with the consultant so he knows what we want but we’ve also written one out and are handing a copy to him when we see him this evening. We’ll take a copy to the hospital with us next week too.

Bunny2006 · 11/01/2023 12:40

Yeah I did think it was odd, there is no medical reason to induce me! I am having growth scans as early on they thought I had GD but it was only one reading that was 1 higher than they like and they've since said (since testing levels at home and every single one been in range, even after Christmas dinner etc!) I don't have it but still attend the growth scans which have all been no concern.
The midwife I saw last (36 weeks) said they don't do appts to go through birth plans anymore as they don't have the time! So just to fill in the birth plan page of my booklet myself, but I have done a more in depth birth plan I printed from the positive birth company.

Akmc · 11/01/2023 16:04

@Bunny2006 errr so if you would like to request an elective c section how does THAT work? 🤷🏻‍♀️ @LiveLaughL0ve omg good luck, I hope you’re more excited than anything else! And hope all goes swimmingly for you. 🪄

drpowk · 11/01/2023 16:05

@Bunny2006 absolute madness that they don’t go through birth plans. I noticed that it hadn’t been mentioned at all. I mean mine WAS almost totally worthless last time, but having preferences written out seems very important, especially with things like pain management. Because I’d opted into a new drug for pain relief that did happen (and was amazing), but ended up needing a c section anyway (which I desperately didn’t want)

I have been diagnosed with GD in the last week so having to alter my diet entirely, and now attend growth scans. They had planned to book a c section for 40 weeks to give my body a chance for natural labour, but now they are pushing for me to accept an earlier one. My hospital only books them a week in advance now, so I had no date to aim for anyway.

I think I’ll probably accept the 39 week c section as I refuse to be induced again (last time was at 37 weeks). I’ve found the advice patchy, unhelpful, frightening and not much room for me to make an informed decision.

LiveLaughL0ve · 11/01/2023 16:28

Thanks @Akmc 😊

Peonies94 · 11/01/2023 16:47

@LiveLaughL0ve how exciting that you have a date ! You can really countdown!

Err random question for all; MW told me to start trying to express milk which I can reveal has actually worked, wonderful given I was dry for almost a week with first, and barely productive with second so breast-feeding went from “not possible” to “incredibly trying” with second. She wants me to put whatever I can get into purple syringes and freeze(?!) so like… where do I get them? What?! How do you even get such a small volume of liquid to GO anywhere? 🤯So many questions, so little clue! If anyone has experience please feel free to pass on.

You can get 1ml syringes from Amazon. Colostrum is super thick so it's relatively easy to catch 😊 good luck. I'll be starting once I'm 37 weeks but remember that if you can't hand express before birth, it doesn't mean you won't be able to breastfeed once baby arrives.

Lavenderleopard · 15/01/2023 15:56

Hi, I'm due 4th February and had a midwife appointment yesterday. She said they'll only induce me if I go 14 (!) Days over. If I want things moving earlier I would have to speak to a consultant.
I'd prefer for things to go naturally but really don't want to have to wait another 5 weeks for baby. I keep being told he's big already

Cat2022 · 15/01/2023 19:25

Apparently they keep changing the guidelines here over post date inductions it had gone down to +7 but is back to +13 I believe. I think I’m going to ask my midwife next appointment just so I have an idea as would rather go naturally anyway but baby is measuring big and I’m suffering really badly from PGP so just want to mentally prepare myself for how long I might be waiting.

Akmc · 15/01/2023 22:40

Thank you so much @JadeTC, I’d tried looking at syringe options online but I was struggling with the sizing! Will get on with this in the meantime. Yes, I hadn’t done this with either of my daughters beforehand and whilst breastfeeding much more successful with my second, it was still never enough for her so I’m just trying to get as … primed as possible! 😂
@Lavenderleopard @Cat2022 you have my full sympathies here, both mine went fully overdue, +10 days here before induction was booked in and it was bloody miserable both times after the 40 week mark. I felt like such a failure, and all extended family stories “oooh I was much earlier and so much smaller” etc had me climbing the walls! I share your stresses about things going on too long too, but if you’re keeping an eye out on movements and have concerns your MWs will be receptive and helpful, with my second they induced her a day early as movements were slowing down. I wish you all the luck 🍀.
