17 weeks and I think I'm losing/lost the baby

Had another thread about midwife not finding the heartbeat and how I'm having a scan tomorrow, but I'm having cramps today in my lower back and down my thighs as if I'm about to come on and really sharp pains in my right hand side. I'm convinced I've lost the baby and my body is starting to catch up. I have tried phoning my midwife I don't think she's working today as no answer, I'm too early to go to the ward. What can I do? Or do I have to just sit tight until tomorrow? Sad

Im glad you went and got seen to quickly! I hope they can get you a bed soon and you can try and get some rest! You don’t have to worry about your DC now as I’m hoping DH is home and looking after them. You can focus on you. Fingers crossed for better news tomorrow morning. Please rest as soon as you can and know you are in good hands with NHS staff!

Hugasauras · 20/03/2022 19:21

Sorry, OP Thanks I think staying is a good idea. I hope they can find a bed for you and you can get some clarity in the morning. You must be terrified Sad

EarringsandLipstick · 20/03/2022 19:24

OP, I agree - stay in tonight. It won't change what's happening, but you are in the right stage if anything gets worse. 17 weeks is late for a miscarriage, if that's what's happening.

I'm so sorry. Hopefully all may still be well. 💐

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 20/03/2022 19:27

Hi OP! Really feeling for you going through this on your own my lovely! I hope thry find a bed for you soon. If you are miscarrying I hope it will be less scarey than being at home alone. I am hoping they can give you some good news such as it is "just" a urine infection! Thinking of you and hope you manage to get some rest tonight. Take care sweetheart.

OP I'm so sorry you're going through this, you must be so scared. I hope they manage to find you a bed so you can be monitored overnight. Wishing for some good news for you xxxx

NoEffingWay · 20/03/2022 19:28

I have everything crossed for you.

OopsImDoingItAgain · 20/03/2022 19:38

They've said they can't confirm miscarriage until proper ultrasound tomorrow but no heartbeat on doppler or small scan machine confirms it really doesn't it. If there's no heartbeat there's no chance Sad

Ah I'm so sorry you're going through this OP. It's horrible. I'm so glad you're in hospital. Definitely stay there. Have they got you a bed?

starsss · 20/03/2022 19:41

OP I'm so sorry you're experiencing this worry. when you say small scan machine, do you mean one where they see an image (ultrasound)?

Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 20/03/2022 19:44

I'm sorry your hospital hasn't been supportive. I hope you can call someone if it gets too much x

twinsetandpearl · 20/03/2022 19:46

You are doing the right thing by staying in OP
I know its a frightening time - I've had many miscarriages and you know in your heart when something isn't right
FWIW I've been able to find my twins heartbeats at home at 16 weeks before but I know my midwife always struggled - in fact I would have to show her where to find them as every single one looked in the wrong place and there wouldn't have been time in the appointment otherwise
It's possible the baby has just got themselves tucked in an awkward position and hiding - I know sometimes I'd just get a second or two of heart activity before it disappeared again. I had bleeds from 28 weeks also x

OopsImDoingItAgain · 20/03/2022 19:48

Yes sorry I don't know the right way to describe it but it was a scan with a picture and they couldn't find a heartbeat she started saying these machines aren't great we can't confirm without a proper one but with my first I came in with pains way less than these a lot earlier and they found heartbeat on these machines then so I've lost hope. They can't find a bed and are sending me home Sad

I think she means the small portable ultrasound machine they use sometimes when assessing before being admitted.

So sorry this is happening OP.
I hope they can clarify tomorrow morning and that they find you a bed so are cared for.

Was the small scan machine an ultrasound one where they could see the baby also? It's awful they can't just get a scan done in the maternity unit for you - just to give you an answer either way rather than force you to wait until tomorrow morning

twinsetandpearl · 20/03/2022 19:49

I'm so sorry OP I really hope the machine is wrong x

CaMePlaitPas · 20/03/2022 19:58

Try to rest OP, you'll be in a better frame of mind for tomorrow that way. You will get through this x

I don’t want to give you false hope but don’t give up hope just yet! Due to staffing and the hours you are there the midwife/nurse/dr that carried it out may not have been that experienced in fetal ultrasounds and like they said those machines aren’t great! You’ll definitely get your answers tomorrow from a sonographer. Keeping everything crossed for you. Try to get some rest :(

georgousbold · 20/03/2022 20:08

Horrific that you have to wait so long OP.

Hopefully they're wrong and baby is there and just can't be seen on the little scan they have

I'm so sorry. I have miscarried at 17 weeks and 2 days before. Baby was longer than my hand, just about. Stay put as that would be so frightening to do alone

I'm so so sorry

Booboobagins · 20/03/2022 20:09

@OopsImDoingItAgain

I've phoned my maternity unit who said before 20 weeks it's the early pregnancy unit I need to contact but they are closed on weekends. Explained I'm coming to ward tomorrow anyway to see my midwife but they said nothing they can do and to come in for my appointment with her Sad
Hi OP I'm sorry to read your post. I hope uts wind ie something equally benign 🙏

If you have lost the baby, thee isn't anything anyone can do so ask you MW to check - she can probably get you rescanned.

My friends tell me tgey don't look at miscarriages until you've had 2, then thry do tests. It's horrible, but it's cos tgey are less rare than you'd think.

Sending a big hug x

OopsImDoingItAgain · 20/03/2022 20:40

Being transferred to a different hospital they can't find me a bed but it's getting worse I'm in lots of pain and I really don't want to miscarry in my bedroom and have that memory everytime I go in there. So in car for 2 hours but then have a private room and dh can stay with me
