17 weeks and I think I'm losing/lost the baby

Had another thread about midwife not finding the heartbeat and how I'm having a scan tomorrow, but I'm having cramps today in my lower back and down my thighs as if I'm about to come on and really sharp pains in my right hand side. I'm convinced I've lost the baby and my body is starting to catch up. I have tried phoning my midwife I don't think she's working today as no answer, I'm too early to go to the ward. What can I do? Or do I have to just sit tight until tomorrow? Sad

I’m sorry OP, I think as others have said it doesn’t sound like miscarriage but appreciate how worried you are. Good that the pain has eased a bit now

mummyh2016 · 20/03/2022 16:00

I wouldn't go to A+E unless you are suffering with a large blood loss or are in severe pain. They won't be able to scan you there, all they would do is refer you to maternity triage or EPU where you may be contacted for a scan in a couple of days. I say may because my friend had a gush of bright red blood at 16 weeks last year and the hospital refused to see her and told her she had to wait for a 20 week scan. This is of course irrelevant as you have a scan tomorrow any way. Good luck OP.

GrimDamnFanjo · 20/03/2022 16:08

OP look after yourself. If things get very bad then A&E, it sounds like it could be an infection to me?

EllieJai44 · 20/03/2022 16:21

Unfortunately OP no where unless you go to a private scan place will scan you on a Sunday, even at A and E they won't scan, I've been in for heavy bleeding in past with an early miscarriage on a Sunday and referred to EPU the next day.

Alot of midwives don't listen for heartbeats at 16 weeks anymore because baby is still tiny so can be hard to find, you're best bet is to wait till your scan tomorrow, unfortunately not much more you can do.

OopsImDoingItAgain · 20/03/2022 16:39

Only symptom now is really bad lower back ache/pressure and top of my thighs too. Sitting tight until the morning as know I'll feel worse stuck on a ward for the night and they can't stop it if I'm miscarrying anyway. I had lots of aches and pains with my first but not like this. Just trying to brace myself for the worst I can't imagine feelings this strongly like period pains not being the start of something Sad

RandomMess · 20/03/2022 17:29

So sorry Thanks

WhatisanODP · 20/03/2022 17:33

Oh sweetheart. Get yourself to A&E. Please.

Mama1980 · 20/03/2022 17:33

I really think you should at the very least call 111 op and ask their advice.
I wish you all the best.

mynameisbrian · 20/03/2022 17:36

Sorry but if you are miscarrying there is nothing anyone can do about it. It does sound like you have got yourself into a heightened state of anxiety due to reading about other posts finding no heartbeat on scans. That may be the case tomorrow or it may not. This is not an emergency and you would be better to go for your scan tomorrow as planned. A bang to the head is a separate issue and if you think you have a serious head injury go to a and e.

(I should add I have had 3 miscarriages, 1 ectopic and 2 missed miscarriages one at 22 weeks, So I do understand the anxiety and fear)

Flowerbug1994 · 20/03/2022 17:44

I would 100% call 111 or go to A&E you don’t have to suffer like this on your own that’s why we have the NHS.

Squiff70 · 20/03/2022 17:48

OP I'm so, so sorry you're going through this.

If your waters break, which they might, you need to ring 999 for an ambulance.

I starred bleeding when I was 19 weeks with twins. A scan showed both their hearts had stopped. I was looked after really well at the hospital and went home for the evening at my request. I was told if my waters broke to call 999. They broke early the next morning and the paramedics were so kind. They took me to the maternity unit's bereavement delivery suite where our babies were delivered.

I'm so sad that you're going through this Flowers

BabyLove22 · 20/03/2022 17:50

@mynameisbrian you're nice. 👍🏽

I'm so sorry you're going through this OP, got everything crossed for you ❤️

Thinking of you OP

rmummyofone · 20/03/2022 17:52

I went through this recently
Midwives told me next time don't ring 111 and attend EPU as soon as possible, but give them a ring beforehand.

Chilesstanton · 20/03/2022 17:55

It sounds like a uti

Hugasauras · 20/03/2022 17:55

@mynameisbrian I think I'd be at a bloody heightened state of anxiety after not finding a heartbeat and then having pains and bleeding! And I am not an anxious person in the least.

So sorry, OP. I agree that A&E wouldn't be inappropriate at this stage if you feel you need to go. If you are having a miscarriage, I definitely wouldn't want to do that at home on my own at 17 weeks. I don't think anyone would begrudge you for going there if you felt you needed to Thanks I hope it's not bad news though and just unrelated.

22EL23 · 20/03/2022 17:58

Hope things turn out okay tomorrow OP

Yet your post doesn't read well. You sound uncaring towards op.
RoisinD · 20/03/2022 18:05

Has your husband come home yet or is he still refusing?

Sunshinegirl82 · 20/03/2022 18:05

I'm sorry this is happening OP.

I had very big bleeds (huge gushes of blood that soaked through my clothes) at 20 and 21 weeks. I didn't miscarry and DS1 was born at term.

The hospital admitted me until 24 hours of no bleeding on both occasions. The hospital may not be able to stop a miscarriage (if that is what is happening) but that doesn't mean they can't help you. They will have pain relief for one thing.

I would call the hospital again. Take care of yourself.

EmJay19 · 20/03/2022 18:07

Hi @OopsImDoingItAgain
Hope you’re feeling ok. I’ve had some really bad pains with my second pregnancy last week, much worse than the first.

When I got in for the scan all was fine and I ended speaking to maternity physio who said totally normal to have pelvic and other related pains earlier than first pregnancy baciase of running around after toddler, lifting them etc.
Really hope it’s the same for you xx
