@Lexber wow, that sounds a rough day you had! Not good when it gets to that point but I can completely see why you'd struggle. Sometimes it's just too much. I need a neighbour like yours! I'm not sure my heartburn is bad enough to go to the dr as it's not that often. Its like @larrythelizard and just sometimes depending on what I've eaten. If it was at every meal I would though as its horrid. I'm hoping it isn't going to get worse but I've got trapped wind again today. 🙄 I'm not impressed all this stuff is back.
As for the consultant DH works 45 minutes away and can't keep having time off to come to pointless appointments @Minster2012 @DKDK123 just because I don't like her. 🤣 Thing is everything is fine atm and I don't even understand why she's throwing in an extra check before the 28 week scan. Checks are good but every time I speak to her she hassles me about vaccines as I've had none yet. I would have got whooping cough had I been able to last week but everyone had gone home! So I have to wait until next time. As for the others I don't see why they can't just accept your decision. Everything is their way or no way and we'll just bully you until you give in.
@2020mission 🤣 Not popular? Like as in Barbara? 🤔

I've bought a baby bath. Not much else happening to report, other than I can feel the baby at some point most days now! I made the mistake of mentioning this to DH who now wants to constantly feel and that annoys me. Depending on where it is you can feel it from the outside but its still very slight at this stage so clearly it's wishful thinking on his part. I'm like- go away. 🤣 I'm Irritable. Definitely nowhere near nesting and anyone that is- you are free to come clean my house!

Franklydear · 09/03/2022 09:06

@larrythelizard oh no, take very good care of yourself, you can do this!

feliznavidad2 · 09/03/2022 10:00

Sorry for being AWOL. I'm a bit of a tired mess at the moment, keep nodding off during DS' bedtime and then that's me for the night.

Let your midwife know @larrythelizard as some women need blood thinners/extra monitoring after. Really hope you manage to get through it without feeling too crappy! 🤞🏻

I know the struggle @Franklydear @Lexber - we've had to do DS' recently (because of his deafness) and it's always such a chore.

Loved seeing the meet up photos on IG @Minster2012 & @blackcurrantqueen ❤️ if anyone is ever in the West Mids, hit me up. Love a meet up!

Baby bath is exciting @paintfairy what kind is it?

Ps loved seeing the two cots up @Lexber !

We've bought our pushchair, 2nd hand Uppababy Vista (2018) as of Monday. It's in pretty good condition, have booked it in for a 'buggy valet' in May to get it spruced up. 😆 Makes things feel rather real(!) 23 weeks now.

Where is the time going ladies?

Juno231 · 09/03/2022 10:40

@larrythelizard that's poo! Def let your midwife know as you might have to go on blood thinners.

@2020mission oh hi Karen 😁.

@feliznavidad2 yay for the uppababy! We actually picked up a pram on Saturday - we went for a second hand mamas&papas strada in the end.

Managed to get the pram plus so many extras (bassinet, car seat adapters, parasol, rain cover, footmuff, changing bag etc) for £350 so I'm pretty chuffed with the purchase. Bassinet had never been used either!

Sorry I've been quiet ladies, I'm working stupid hours atm. I don't even think I've told you I got sent by the NHS to a sexual health clinic on Friday? 🤭 Got my cervix scan tomorrow morning at 8.30am.

2020mission · 09/03/2022 10:56

Damn it @Juno231 I forgot you saw my email address once when sending me the hellofresh code 😂 it was ok until those memes started

@becarefuloutthere yeah if you are ever in Glasgow we could definitely meet up. Assume you won't be coming anytime soon now that your little girl is here though 😅 how are you getting on?

That's a great price for a pram and all those extras @Juno231 which one is it? I was so overwhelmed by the amount of options when looking last year. I ended up just buying the Joie Versatrax with carry cot for around £400 from Argos nearby so I could easily return it after trying it at home if it wasn't any good. Just wasn't willing to fork out for one up in the thousands as we didn't need anything fancy and couldn't see any second hand ones near me. It worked out fine!

Minster2012 · 09/03/2022 10:59

@larrythelizard that's rubbish, but didn't someone say you should get extra scans too after covid?? So def tell them anyway. I hope you don't need the thinners tbh 😬

@paintfairy my DH only felt a movement first time last week as though you could see ripples before then he's far too impatient to just sit there with his hand on me but he felt a proper kick & now he's doing it a bit more which I like. Totally get that on the consultant apps then. My DH has come to none of mine nor the scan I had last week as it was last minute

@feliznavidad2 gosh that is further than I thought for you!!

@Juno231 so you've got an appointment tomorrow for cervix then sexual health on Friday?! That's really good on the pram though! Need to get mine back from loan

@2020mission ha ha loving @Juno231's Karen
What about Debbie?!

Our monitor arrived yesterday so I'm going to test the range on that...everyone fingers crossed please it reaches to our kitchen & lounge despite many solid walls in the way 😬🤞🏻

Minster2012 · 09/03/2022 11:02

Shiiiiiiit I've just realised the christening we are going to is this Sunday. Need to see if I have anything appropriate to wear 🤪

2020mission · 09/03/2022 11:03

Also just realised you mentioned it's the mamas and papas pram further up in your post @Juno231 my bad! I have a tendency to skip reading parts of messages directed at other people and just read the bottom paragraphs instead for speed 😅

@Minster2012 haha I remember it popped up in conversation along with Debbie. Susan is another one... for fuck's sake, Susan!

paintfairy · 09/03/2022 11:21

@2020mission yeah my mum is called Karen so those memes seem harsh!
@Minster2012 all my scans are booked for when DH can come and he should be able to come to my 25 week midwife appointment to hear the heartbeat. But yeah these extra ones are just a pain. Plus the fact you are there 300 hours because it's never remotely on time! Which monitor did you go for?
@Juno231 at least they've finally got their act together!
@feliznavidad2 a shnuggle bath. She never really used it as she bought it and someone else bought her one, which she preferred. Wish I knew what that was though. 🤣 Yay for the 2nd hand pram. God knows about the time as I'm worrying i won't have half the stuff.

I have some questions for people! Because I'm bloody clueless.

  1. How many babygrows/vests do we actually need? I was getting some newborn and some 0-3 as I've no idea on baby size. Outfits I wasn't even going to worry about! My brain can't cope.
  2. How many muslins?
  3. How many blankets? (I'm intending to use sleeping bags for sleeping).
  4. How many sleeping bags of each tog?
  5. Bibs? Do I even need bibs if I BF? 🤔
  6. Anyone used baby carriers? Thoughts?
  7. Breast feeding bras? How many? How are you meant to even buy those when they might change size after birth?

I've also been looking at reusable nappies - was it @Kate105 that mentioned these? I can't decide if realistically I'll be able to keep up with the washing though!? Especially given the energy prices issue. They also mostly seem to take a long time to dry? I did look at the nappy lady info but there are sooooo many options.

I literally am starting to have mental overload with all this stuff. 🤣

Lexber · 09/03/2022 11:25

Happy 31 weeks to me - here mum have some awesome morning sickness and constipation (iron related) to add to your swollen fanny, rigid hips and acid reflux... 😬😭🤣

Juno231 · 09/03/2022 11:47

@2020mission omg no that was purely a guess!! It was a toss up between K or calling you Alexa! Didn't mean to out you 🙊

@lexber Christ you sounds like you're having a hoot!

@paintfairy no bibs at the start but you'll need millions of them when the baby starts to drool as it's a constant stream so it's much easier to change bibs/neckerchiefs instead of the whole top

@Minster2012 went to the sexual health clinic last Friday - that was a treat lol. And yes then cervix scan tomorrow.

larrythelizard · 09/03/2022 12:12

For some reason I thought you were another of the Scottish contingent @feliznavidad2! 23 weeks - you're flying!

Great pram purchase @Juno231 and good news for the cervix scan - surely they can't run late on the first appt of the day...?!

Excellent work on the monitor @Minster2012 another thing off the list

Slightly disappointed at Karen @2020mission was expecting something more exotic!

Brain not all there @paintfairy but remember you don't need to get everything in one go. Eg DS was never a sickly baby so never got through clothes/muslins like some friends. Most stuff arrives pretty quickly when ordered online.

Wow what a celebration @Lexber bet you can't wait to see how your body celebrates 32 weeks!!

Will drop the MW a text, am not feeling too bad just lying in bed apart from tired but that's fairly standard for life recently!

OP posts:
Franklydear · 09/03/2022 12:16

@paintfairy I am with @larrythelizard little to start with, or you will buy many things you won't use, I used real nappies, and still have them ready cos I like denial, no issues with washing and drying and you never run out when store is closed, I like them

Nothing to see here yet

2020mission · 09/03/2022 12:28

@paintfairy what clothes you need really depends on how often you run a wash, what size your baby is, how quickly they grow, how much they spit up or soil their clothes 😆 simply cannot answer it for you I'm afraid! Best to make a lot of the purchases once LO is here and you get an idea of all of those things. Matthew is growing pretty steadily but slowly so has remained in most of his first size clothes for weeks. It depends on the season too. I've had him mostly in fleecy zip babygrows since he arrived as they are cosy and zips are a lifesaver for quick changes. They also dry so fast being fleecy! We also had to figure out the best nappies and how to put them on well... he had so many leaks in the first week because of that and so we went through clothes quicker.

You can never have too many muslins. We use them everywhere. I tuck them across his crib too as he spits up so much when lying in there and it saves having to change the entire crib bedding multiple times a day. I put one in my bed too for when he's in for breast feeds. You have to chuck it in the wash with big spit ups so you can fly through them. I don't use bibs at all really as I find them hassle to pop on and off for feeds and mostly because breastfeeding is on demand and not scheduled so there's little time to go and get one to put on him. Always just use muslins.

I have a number of blankets as they can spit up or wet through clothes on to them often too so you want to have spares ready while the others are in the wash.

I have to change and wash my nursing bras daily unfortunately due to all the milk leaks and Matthew spitting up as they sit directly on the nipple. You don't want a dirty sour milk smelling bra touching the nipples when they need to feed on them 😅 size wise it's all right as they are stretchy. A lot don't even come in an actual bra size and are instead S, M, L. You might think it's fine I'll use bra pads to avoid daily washes but realistically you'll forget or not have he time to be using and changing them all day 😆

I've not really used any sleeping bags mostly just cellular blankets so can't really help with that!

Lexber · 09/03/2022 13:07

Hope you are ok @larrythelizard rest as best you can and regular paracetamol xx
I know right... probably the shits instead 🤣🤣🤣

Just rung drs for anti sickness meds, he wanted to see me (I'm in my PJs) but then when he knew I'd been seen Thursday eve and have an appointment at hospital tomorrow morning he was happy to let me take my own BP and when I was perfect he was content in me not having to go in (phew)

@paintfairy I have similar questions and I've had 2 (15/12 years ago mind!) I found Muslims were better at first but def bibs when they start dribbling/teething lol saves constant clothes changing

It's a party everyday @Juno231 🤣🤣🤣

becarefuloutthere · 09/03/2022 14:50

@2020mission Dh has time off end of May/early June so we were thinking of going then but we'll see. DD was losing weight so it's been stressful waiting for her weigh ins but she's put on now. Not bk to birth weight yet but getting there! Next weigh in tomorrow and first health visit today.
What you've said to @paintfairy is exactly my experience too. Muslins for breastfeeding and lots of vests and sleepsuits as that's all she's in at mo. Same thing re blanket for sleeping as we also haven't used sleeping bags yet, waiting until she's older, mainly as the ones I've got are too big right now!

@Lexber I'm glad your BP is all good 😊

2020mission · 09/03/2022 15:16

@becarefuloutthere aww that sounds very similar to our start with Matthew as he lost 10% of his birth weight in the first few days and since has been gaining slowly so the HV is weighing him fortnightly. It took him about 3 weeks to get back to his birth weight. Try not to worry! Just do what you can it will improve.

feliznavidad2 · 09/03/2022 15:56

OH is Scottish @larrythelizard and I do occasionally drop in a 'wee' 😛

feliznavidad2 · 09/03/2022 15:59

@paintfairy as others have said, don't go crazy until babe is here as I bought loads of 0-3 sleep suits and he came out needing a few tiny baby 😮- he was 6lb 10 but v skinny and long.

Also, most of the sleeping bags have a minimum weight of at least 8lb ish I think - depends on the brand/type.

Minster2012 · 09/03/2022 16:54

Fucks sake Susan 😂we shall call you Susan @2020mission is that better?! I was having the conversation with my mum the other day about the name Alexa being dead now cos of the device 😂I know 2 Alexa's my age (37/38) for which it would still be really annoying

@Juno231 oooo what fun times you are having too with all these appointments, what was the sexual health for??

Loving the fact you didn't have to go in @Lexber

@paintfairy
On the stuff it's all very subjective to your baby, like @Juno231 says no bibs to start with however a baby can be refluxy (sicky) from day one no matter how they are fed so we used LOADS, or they are sometimes sick after eating when winding anyway. my friend used basically none til weaning. same as muslins we used loads (for everything like @2020mission says,
grabbing to wipe a floor after sickness, spillages, on sofa a cover for pram etc etc) our friends not so much.

Sleeping bags it's good to find out the temperature of your room first so I'd leave that for a bit later on as temp now won't be the same.
Nursing bras no idea.i have my 2 molke bras but I'm gonna see what size my boobs are in a few weeks

Depends if you want to swaddle for big muslins. You can get smaller swaddle type sleeping bags.

Have a look at lists for hospital bags. They say like 5 of things so start with that & add a couple

The monitor works! Yeyyyyy and it shuts off until noise yeyyyyyyyyyyyy
Slowly ticking things off

The lady at the post office just laughed at me stumbling out of my car as my hips died from sitting at computer all day then a dog walk I'm officially limping my hip hurts. Suddenly I've become decrepit 😂

2020mission · 09/03/2022 17:31

@Minster2012 can you believe one of my closest friends is actually called Susan 😂 well she goes by Sue. What a duo we are haha we just need to find a friend called Debbie now.

paintfairy · 09/03/2022 18:03

God its a nightmare. Guessing the size and guessing the weather. But clearly i don't want the poor thing to be clothesless. 🤣 @feliznavidad2 buying 0-3 doesn't worry me as at least they'll grow into that (assuming its basic stuff and not season specific outfits). So I kind of thought I'll get that but also some newborn too, in case it needs smaller. It. She. I mean SHE! 🙈
The sleeping bags I've got start at 7lb. But I did think I'll get some bigger muslins (summer) and some blankets, in case I need to do that instead. Its just knowing how much to buy of what. And I'm tight so I'm getting stuff 2nd hand for now anyway. If I have to buy new then I can at the time but I wanted to at least have basics. I just have no idea how fast you get through things!
@Franklydear my mum (clearly years ago) used reusable nappies with us. And I know it's maybe better for the environment. I just couldn't work out if I'd get on with it!
@Minster2012 monitor looks good! I'm nowhere near that on my list. I don't even have a list. 🤣 Just jumbled thoughts in my head......
@becarefuloutthere I think them dropping weight initially is fairly standard so I wouldn't worry. Pleased to hear she's now getting the hang of life!

bez91 · 09/03/2022 19:01

Sorry ladies been a rubbish passenger, life is just so busy at the moment and I'm rushing round trying to get stuff sorted before mat leave 🤦🏼‍♀️

@DKDK123 oooh a big buba! Maybe she's just peaked quickly, some babies do don't they then plateau off. Hope all goes well tomorrow with the GD test 🤞🏼a lot of people seem to struggle one way or another with 💩 in pregnancy. I think I've been lucky, just feel like I need to go little and often

@Lexber your neighbour sounds wonderful! Hope it was good cake! Snap on the nesting, I've started washing 😆

@larrythelizard slightly jealous of your electric car although well timed for me with work stopping visits at the end of this month as I'd still only get paid a measly 40p a mile. I think you're a similar stage to me when I got C, I just informed my midwife and I think she just added it to my notes. Hope you're ok

@Minster2012 oooh yes 🦒 nursery almost done, just need curtains up. Looks like you had a great play date with @blackcurrantqueen - how lovely 🥰 ahh hope you find an outfit for Sunday it's hard when you don't really want to buy anything maternity related to wear it once! DH has his uncles funeral in a couple of weeks, long story but none of the family had a lot to do with him so he's just going to support his grandma, I asked if he wanted me to go and kinda relieved he said no as my main concern was what would I even wear 🙈

@paintfairy I said that to DH, we may as well get it in now 🍆 I had stitches last time so I was about as nervous as loosing my virginity 😆 wahoo to the movement, your poor DH trying to be nice 😂 argggh reminded me I need to look for nursing bras but may wait until after to see what size I am

@becarefuloutthere im with @2020mission don't worry too much on the weight gain, health visitors can be witches too. I remember one asking me if I was actually feeding DD 🙄 don't let them make you feel like you don't know best 💕
@2020mission my MIL is a Debbie, I wouldn't recommend her though 😆

@Juno231 another one with an appointment tomorrow, seems to be a popular day. Fingers crossed for a wonderful cervix 😉

I have my growth scan tomorrow, bit paranoid with the polyhydramnios and I can tell baby is still turning round often 🤦🏼‍♀️ also had a funny spell today with itching and rash on my hands which I ran passed my midwife and she just said to mention it tomorrow!

Minster2012 · 09/03/2022 19:07

Oooo you def need a Debbie @2020mission

@paintfairy I'd go with more newborn than 0/3 to start with, even our 9lb baby fitted in newborn stuff for a few weeks, you don't want things too big in case it goes over their face or their legs & arms disappear in the grows as they are all scrunched up 😂. There's a thinner smaller sleeping bag I think you can get for newborns which would be good for summer. I shall find one and put a link. I've also got nightgowns which can be called bundlers, they are good instead of sleeping bags to start with. I also only just stopped saying IT. Don't worry!

Minster2012 · 09/03/2022 19:27

It might be this @paintfairy though we never used swaddling so not sure but the weight is for smaller

www.tommeetippee.com/en-gb/product/the-original-grobag-grey-blue-marl-easy-swaddle-twin-pack-0-3m?gclid=CjwKCAiAvaGRBhBlEiwAiY-yMDCFDMaxNvUYKHXAId8m7s1MOSPWJIia0uxyxPcCU-f0Q6mK8fCc8BoCI8YQAvD_BwE

@bez91 I was thinking is it your scan this week 🤞🏻and totally understandable on the funeral, that's good then. I think I've got an outfit I can wear
