Dyra · 20/01/2022 09:31

No problemo. I should have put the tags in the due date list though. Ah well. Hopefully everyone will make their way here eventually. How are you feeling today @Scoaf?

JuneySunshine · 20/01/2022 13:05

Hi @Dyra, Hi @Scoaf :)

I'd been lingering on the other group so taking the chance to introduce myself. I'm having a surprise, 1st baby on March 16th.

Feeling well but finding life busy with appointments, preparations, NCT classes etc etc. Everyone keeps saying to rest up and I'm wondering 'when?!' sure it's even more like that for those of expecting their second or third!

Nats7504 · 20/01/2022 13:29

Afternoon everyone, and yay to a new thread! 😊

@JuneySunshine Welcome! Resting up? What’s that.

I’ve got my 31/32 week midwife appointment tomorrow. 😊 I’m excited!

Scoaf · 20/01/2022 13:38

@Dyra im sure everyone will find their way over.
Yes im ok thanks, feel exhausted though, head and hip are a bit sore too.
My boss has told me to take rest of the week off. So im going to take the opportunity to rest.
@JuneySunshine welcome and congratulations 🤗
@Nats7504 oh how exciting. What do they ususally do at those? I have mine next week and then my 2nd growth scan the week after.

Nats7504 · 20/01/2022 13:41

@Scoaf No idea to be honest 🤷🏻‍♀️ my midwife is really shit so probably best not to go by what I have done 🤣 I have my 32 week growth scan on Monday! It’s all becoming very real…

Dyra · 20/01/2022 13:49

@JuneySunshine Welcome! Re...sting? What's that? How've you found NCT so far? I'll get you added to the due date list.

Good times @Nats7504! Mine's on Monday, but with the GP. Hopefully you get to hear your baby's heart beat tomorrow! Did you get your bloods done in the end?

How's name picking going for everyone? We have one of each, but DH isn't 100% on the boy's, and I'm not completely sold on the girl's. But we cannot agree on any others. Urgh.

OP posts:
Scoaf · 20/01/2022 13:55

@Nats7504 oh sorry to hear that, can you ask for a different midwife? Is that a thing?
I know i cabt believe how quickly it has gone. I dont feel ready 😫 but then most people have told me you never feel ready 🤣
@Dyra we also are a bit stuck with names. We have 2 boys names and 1 girls but i dont LOVE any of them and im sure you are meant to Love your babies name 🤷‍♀️ our problem is that most of pur friends have all had babies and used any names we really liked 🤣

Dyra · 20/01/2022 13:57

@Scoaf 31/32 is just a check up really. BP, urine, Doppler, fundal height (some MWs won't if you're having growth scans since they're more accurate). Few questions about how you're doing, if there's any swelling, how preparation for baby is going. Also get you to start thinking about where and how you want to deliver, then booking for 34 week appointment.

OP posts:
Nats7504 · 20/01/2022 14:05

@Dyra You’re right behind me then! I don’t think we see a GP during pregnancy here. Mad how things differ. No, I was told they’d do them at my next midwife appointment so guessing I’ll have them done tomorrow. I’ve read up on what I should be having done but they might not measure bump as I’m having growth scans 🤷🏻‍♀️
We’ve got our name sorted. This is my 3rd boy and I have 3 nephews so it was tough!

@Scoaf They are so short staffed that I don’t think that would be an option unfortunately. She might surprise me and be fab tomorrow 🤞

Dyra · 20/01/2022 14:27

@Nats7504 Lots of boys in your family! Let us know how you get on tomorrow.

Tbh I think GPs and midwives do shared care in my trust purely because there's so few community midwives. GPs do the not quite so important appointments. So 25, 31, and 38, while midwives do all the rest. And since it's only FTM and high risk pregnancies that get those appointments, there's not quite so much stress on the GPs either.

Nats7504 · 20/01/2022 14:49

@Dyra I know. None of us have had a girl 🙈 and I come from a family of 3 girls and 1 boy!

Ahh, I see. Makes sense I guess. I’ll let you know how I get on tomorrow 😊 You are so knowledgeable!

Hopefully you’ll all find a name you love! ❤️ with my youngest we chose a completely different name once he was born as the one we had chosen didn’t suit him.

easybreezy586 · 20/01/2022 15:19

Hi everyone, I'm a bit late but would love to join! I'm expecting my second at the end of March (29th). Only just starting to hit me that I'll have 2 soon, not sure how we're going to manage as my toddler is a bit of a handful...., but I'm very excited. Grin

Dyra · 20/01/2022 15:48

Welcome @easybreezy586! How old is your toddler? They a boy or girl? Do you know what you're having? It's definitely starting to weigh on my mind that there's going to be 2 soon. DD is a huge mummy's girl and is going through a bit of a phase where she's rejecting her dad. She loves babies at least, so it's going to be the best thing ever to her mind 🤞🏻.

@Dyra just a standard appt then. I hope they do measure my bump tbh as i would like to see how that compares to scan measurements.
@Nats7504 ah thats rubbish. Fingers crossed shes pulled her finger out.
@easybreezy586 welcome and congratulations..

Is everyone taking 1 bag for them to hospital and 1 for baby?
I feel like i have way too much stuff. Im not planning on Breastfeeding so have got some Aptimal starter packs. But would need a bag just for them and Nappies and my big nappies 🤣

easybreezy586 · 20/01/2022 16:32

Thanks @dyra 😁 I have a little boy who is 2 1/2. He just isn't very good at amusing himself and he can be really clingy with me! My little boy also loves babies, so I'm hoping he will just be really excited about being a big brother and not too jealous. We're having a surprise, which is making it extra hard trying to come up with a name. I'm a bit like you and my friends have taken loads that I like!

Dyra · 20/01/2022 17:41

Everything is in one bag for me. I might put together a secondary "extras" bag for the car on the off chance I need to stay a bit longer. I'm also expecting by the time we give birth, visitor restrictions should be minimal/back to normal, so DH will be free to pop in and out to deliver what I need. Worst comes to the worst, I know where all the stock cupboards are. 😈

Your DS is a similar age to my DD @easybreezy586. She still doesn't comprehend there's a baby in my tummy. Does your boy? I'm anticipating some jealousy. Especially when the novelty of a baby wears off, she realises mummy isn't at her beck and call, and that Daddy is going to be attending to a lot of her needs instead.

JuneySunshine · 21/01/2022 05:06

I'm on the list! Thanks @Dyra 😊

I had a bit of a silk because they moved our NCT online but its actually been good. I'm doing some reading etc for the the birth plan myself so it's more the newborn stuff and social side we're I for. Luckily we're 4 couples all close geographically and planning an outdoor meet up once the course finishes.

@Scoaf I was planning to pack 2 bags, 1 holdall for me and our baby changing bag for baby. Someone suggested you can organise within that using large freezer bags which I think I'll do to make things grab-able.

Derbee · 21/01/2022 11:25

Hi all, nice to have a new thread! I had an eventful day yesterday - I was busy, but realised I hadn’t felt the baby move at all since 8am. I sat down, drank cold water (my GD diagnosis meant i wasn’t happy having a sugary drink as they suggest) but nothing… called the pregnancy assessment unit at 6pm and they told me to come straight in. Had to go alone which was a bit worrying. I was put on the monitor for an hour, and everything seems fine. They’re happy with all the baby’s heartbeat/movement etc. but she told me I’d waited too long to go in. You never know if you’re overreacting though, it’s so hard! Just so strange that I suddenly can’t feel anything… Hoping it picks up today…

We have a growth scan this afternoon with the diabetes clinic, so it’ll be reassuring to actually see the baby, after just watching it’s heartbeat yesterday…

We aren’t close to names at all, which is worrying me. I’ve got 2 or 3 boys names that I love, but DP thinks are nice, but doesn’t love them. No girls names at all… aaaarrrghh!!

Nats7504 · 21/01/2022 11:33

Morning ladies!

You’ll all have to make a labour/baby bag list for unorganised Mums like me! 🙈 I’m one of them people that wait until I’m due to pack anything.

@Derbee That sounds scary 😞 Glad all was well with baby and that the staff reassured you to go in no matter how much you think you may be over reacting.

Just got back from my midwife appointment. Completely shit as usual. Don’t know why I go to be honest. Different one again (had 3 now) was in there 10 minutes. She tried to get blood out of me but couldn’t as she was rushing and my veins are not good at the best of times. So have to go to the hospital and get them done. Wee and BP done. She didn’t measure me or do a Doppler as I’m having growth scans so they don’t need to??

Scoaf · 21/01/2022 12:16

@juneysunshine yes i saw someone has said about freezer bags with 1st out in etc so hubby can find things easily so im going to do that omce ive washed everything.... when do we do that? 🤣

@derbee that must have been very worrying for you, glad everything is ok and its good you have a scan this afternoon, you will feel much better after seeing your little one wriggling around.
@nats7504 oh im sorry your having such rubbish appts. Must be very frustrating. My MW hasnt been meausring my bump due to the growth scans but did listen to the heartbeart at my last appt.

Dyra · 21/01/2022 12:19

That sounds very scary @Derbee. Bad baby! No scaring your mum like that again! You do lots of reassuring wriggles today! Seriously though, very glad baby was all ok on the monitoring, and hope there's more movement today. Maybe the name thing is a sign. We had a girl's name all picked out before the first scan, but only an ongoing argument for a boy's with DD. Thank goodness she was DD!

@Nats7504 I am so sorry you're getting such bare bones care. I can understand the not taking blood if it looked early on it wasn't going to be possible. Phlebotomists are far better anyway. No chance of trying to get them done with the nurse at your GP so you don't have to go all the way to the hospital? Not doing the fundal height and Doppler due to you having growth scans though... Well I think it's true they're not entirely vital with the growth scan. But it still screams of them trying to get you out of the door as quickly as they can, rather than actually taking any care of you. Will they do bloods again at 34 weeks, or delay it to the 36 week appointment?

OP posts:
Nats7504 · 21/01/2022 12:31

I understand the measurements but not even a doppler. I’ve not heard my babies heartbeat outside of a very clinical scan.

Bare bones is one way to describe it. She tried to get the blood out but the strap wasn’t right enough to bring my veins out, I told her this 🤷🏻‍♀️ My doctors don’t seem to do any midwife work but I’ll get them done at my growth scan on Monday.

@Dyra She didn’t mention anymore bloods so don’t think I’ll be getting anymore done. She booked me in for 3 weeks time. I nearly said to her is it worth it as it’s in between my 32 and 36 week growth scans, it’s not like they’ll do anything that justifies the travel time and parking costs for the appointment. 🙄 She also asked me if I felt depressed while filling out my notes. If I was love, I don’t think I’d tell you with that level on engagement.

Dyra · 21/01/2022 12:59

Ah yes. Whooley questions. Urgh. At least they're doing those. 🙄 Next time I see my midwife (will ask the GP on Monday as well, but doubtful they'll know the answer) I'm going to ask about why a Doppler is done at appointments, and if growth scans make them not necessary. I know it seems pointless, but once it's all over, complain about all this.

Please do attend the other appointments though. I have a bit of creeping guilt from DD as I didn't attend my 34 week appointment with her. I did get my BP checked at work, which showed borderline high BP. Didn't do a urine dip. 36 weeks revealed pre-eclampsia. I do wonder if I had attended that appointment it would have been picked up a bit earlier and we could have gotten it under control before it affected my bloods. We were both fine (thankfully), and it meant DD got her September birthday (selfish I know), but it did make realise how quickly things can change.
