S9 glad I'm not the only one who's little one is yelling at the world 😅 she has been shouting for a while but its like she just realised she has a top volume level. I know I'm probabaly the only one out and about that even notices. In saying that she started crying in a coffee shop the other day and an old man shot us some very strong daggers and upped and left immediately 😅 oops.

I was going to ask about solids! We plan on starting just after she turns 6 months but a friend of mine started already starting at 5. No idea what I'm doing weaning wise but I'm sure I'll get time to read up in the next week. How on earth are we at this stage already !

Hmm well personally these 27 weeks have felt like 27 years but at the same time I know what you mean 😅

Dyra · 16/09/2022 16:32

We've started slowly wearing over the past week or two.

We're doing baby led again. Which thus far has been mostly me chucking a chunk of cucumber or whatever fruit we're eating at the time at Max to suck on. He's also sucked on some plain pasta, buttered toast, and a bit of chicken. I did a roast dinner last night, so I've steamed some extra veggie batons for the week. Also saved some roast parsnips as a tasty treat. There's also some fromage frais for when I'm feeling brave and won't mind the mess. I've got a book I'll go through for more ideas too.

So far most of what he's eaten, he's immediately spat out. But he did gum chomp and then swallow a good sized bit of carrot this afternoon, so progress! Can't wait to see it again in his nappy....

Oh that sounds like a good idea @Dyra - I assumed giving them 'big' things like that would mean them choking but I guess they just suck at it. I'll have to try, so far I've only given her some mashed 'dinners' that I've made for her - today was the first day I've seen her swallow the tiniest piece of mashed banana in the world 🥇😆

Derbee · 16/09/2022 20:13

were starting weaning in a few weeks - very exciting! My book suggests a mix of purées and baby led large things, and a 2/3week period for slow introduction of allergens. Think I’m going to start with broccoli and banana though, as they’re my favourite 😂

I will admit I don't remember the early days of weaning with DD, other than they pretty much coincided perfectly with the first lockdown. But what I do remember is that babies gums are actually pretty good at masticating food (as long as it's soft!), even without teeth.

DD was champion at it. She didn't get her first tooth until 9-10 months. I think she was a bit readier than Max at the same age though. She was sitting really well, her gag reflex had moved back, and she had phenomenal hand to mouth control. So BLW worked really well for us. Didn't stop her from becoming the world's pickiest eater at 18 months though. 🙄

How are we all doing? The babies are 8 months now I can hardly believe it. We all excited about our little ones first Christmas?
We've had a stressful few weeks with sleep training but we're getting there. She loves her food she will eat anything. She's started proper crawling now and is so fast and started pulling herself up ti stand which made me so anxious with the tumbles 🥺 still no teeth yet though. She does say dada and mum though kinda cute.

Just had her 8 month HV review and she's just a wee titch. 16lb 12oz and down between 2nd and 9th percentile for length but noones concerned. She eats plenty and mum and dad are short 🤣

Dyra · 02/12/2022 15:35

Spooky! I've been thinking about you guys lots of late.

We're ok. Max still has his rattly breathing. Doctors are pretty certain it's laryngomalacia (floppy airway). Should clear up by the time he's one, but if it doesn't he'll be referred to ENT. He's poorly atm with a pretty nasty virus, but he's ok enough to stay home for now. Nights are back to hellish.

As for everything else, he's a bit of a chonky boi. Not had a HV review for ages, but he had his stats taken at a recent hospital appointment. He's beautifully sticking to the 75th centile for weight (9.5kg), but is only around the 25th for length (70cm). I think they short changed him though. He's a tip-toer, and in their efforts to get him flat footed they ignored his leg wasn't straight.

We've got two toothies. :3 Not crawling yet, but not for lack of trying. It's very frustrating for him and me. He's excellent at sitting, and he's trying to pull to stand already. He loves standing. Always starts out on his tip toes, but is better at coming down to flat footed of late. Lots of "mmmmmmmms" which I think is him calling me. He is extremely vocal when he is not satisfied with everything. But otherwise he's the happiest little boy. Extremely social. Took a long time to laugh properly. Just days short of turning 8 months. Might be due to his airway though. Weaning got off to a terrible start. Lots of gagging and vomiting. A huge difference from his sister. Waited another few weeks, started him on purees, upgraded back to BLW and things are much better now. Guessing that, again, it's down to his airway.

I think he's a lot like my youngest brother. Apparently he was a rattly breather and a tip-toer too. He was crawling by Christmas (his birthday is the day after Max's due date), so everything crossed Max will be the same Hopefully he won't be like him as a toddler though. He was a true hellion... Tantrums, biting, running away... Urgh.

Hey ladies, so sorry I disappeared. Things got very hectic with a toddler and a baby. Also Elwen was nocturnal for most of the last 8 months so the sleep deprivation was making me loopy.

Thankfully she’s finally started sleeping through. Hoping this is not just a fluke and we get a good run at least so I can get some rest.

Other than not sleeping at night she’s been a dream. Very chilled during the day. We’re eating three meals and starting to crawl. I’m thinking of cutting the bfeeding a bit now as we’re getting biting. Not sure how she can exert so much force with only two teeth.

Anyway, I hope you’re all well. I can’t believe the babies are 8 months already. It’s flown by! Xx

Scoaf · 02/12/2022 19:46

Aww its lovely to hear how everyone is getting on.
Teddy is an absolute lunatic. Haha.
He doesnt sit still for a second. Keeping me on my toes. He is very very close to crawling but also wants to walk everywhere and is pulling himself up so im not sure which 1 will come 1st.
He has 2 teeth and is eating 2/3 meals a day.
His sleeping isnt quite there though 😭
We get a couple of wake ups each night now. X

Derbee · 02/12/2022 19:49

Glad everyone’s doing well. We have a crawler here! He’s really fast. He pulls himself up on everything, and is always wanting to walk whilst holding onto fingers… so I feel like we may not be too far off walking 😳

No teeth, and waking up every hour or so currently. Exhausted, but absolutely loving having a baby.

Dyra · 02/12/2022 22:22

Omg Elwen is adorbs! 😍

So lovely to hear how all the babies are doing.

@dyra Sorry to hear max still is a bit rattly fingers crossed he's better by 1.
@Catconfusion so so cute! Love those wee rockers. My inlaws have all been asking what to get her for Christmas I asked for one of these.
@Scoaf @Derbee so lovely to hear how your little ones are coming along. Time really has flown. Are the little ones in their own rooms? Elizabeth used to wake and need us to give her a dummy or some attention to get back to sleep but 3 weeks ago when we sleep trained we got her down in her cot in her own room and she hardly ever needs us now (not never but hardly ever) she sleeps so much better in her own room I'd recommend it if they aren't.

Dyra · 02/12/2022 23:02

Max is technically in his own room. He was supposed to only move out after he could crawl, as he'll be moving in with his sister. But after he treated me to 6 weeks of wake ups every 90 minutes from 6 months old, culminating in a night where he woke up every 45 minutes, he had to go. Plunged me deep into PND and needing antidepressants. So we've shoved his cot into the study. His sleep immediately got better, which lasted for a few weeks. But this cold has caused him to wake up frequently again. 8 times from midnight to 7am.... I tired.

OP posts:
Scoaf · 03/12/2022 11:25

Yes Teddy is in his own room. He is amazing at going down for naps. Just put him down with his dummy and his comforter and he settles himself. Pretty much the same at night but he wakes up multiple times. Usually just for his dummy. The frustrating thing is, he can put his dummy in himself but he just doesnt look for it 🤷‍♀️
Lack of sleep is absolute torture. Running on empty and i went back to work this week too. 🙃

Scoaf · 03/12/2022 11:26

@Dyra oh sounds awful. You poor thing. Hope you are starting feel a bit better.
Sleep deprivation is absolute hell. It just completely changes your personality.
Hope Max starts sleeping better soon for you.

Caass45 · 03/12/2022 16:51

@Scoaf in all fairness we scatter about 4 dummies in Elizabeth's cot to make it easier to find them and we try to use glow in the dark ones to help but I totally get what you mean hopefully he starts looking for it himself soon

Scoaf · 03/12/2022 19:06

@Caass45

Yes we have about 6 in there... some of them are glow in the dark.
Can i ask what you did sleep training wise? X

Caass45 · 03/12/2022 19:15

@Scoaf we put her down awake but tired and closed curtains put a night light on and we got a snuggle and sooth otter from fisherprice which has helped at bed time. We would initially go in after a while and check on her as she would cry but I found it was making her cry more every time we left so we just left her. Sometimes if she really gets worked up we go in and calm her down with a cuddle. She screams again when we put her back and leave but usually after 30 seconds she rolls over and goes to sleep.

I'll admit it's not easy at all I hate when she cried it literally hurts my soul and I cried every night for about 2 and a half weeks but she's getting much better she hardly cries going to bed at all now or nap time

Derbee · 03/12/2022 20:06

We’re cosleeping, with no plans to change. I think lack of sleep is the hardest thing with all of this, but the alternatives (own room/sleep training/cry it out) just wouldn’t work for us.

Does anyone have pets? I’ve been amazed by how much our dog loves having a baby in the house!

Scoaf · 03/12/2022 20:07

Oh its so hard to go against all your instincts and not go to them isnt it 😔
Sounds like you are doing amazing though.
Teddy is ok at going to sleep. Its the staying asleep that is the problem at the minute.
I hope he soon realises all the dummies are there.

bingu · 20/01/2023 01:46

How is everyone coming on?

Dyra · 08/03/2023 22:07

How's everyone doing now our no longer quite so little ones are turning 1?

I genuinely cannot believe it's been a full year already. Feels like just yesterday I was looking at that faint line on the pregnancy test. Max is now an amazing crawler. He's like a little tank when he gets going he's so determined. He's incredibly mummy oriented, and his first (and so far only) word was 'mama'. He's pulling to stand and cruising like a pro, but he's showing zero signs of actually wanting to walk. If you hold his hands, he pulls his legs up instead of trying to stand, let alone take steps. HV was happy with his progress at his review. Still on that 75th centile, but he's been a bit ill since. He's slimmed down, and starting to look like a toddler. 😢 His breathing, especially when ill, is still rattly, so we'll be referred back to ENT once he's past his birthday. Jabs are scheduled for next Tuesday. Eek. 😬

We're not doing anything much for his birthday. He's got some sensory toys and books for presents. We're having a little party with in-laws on the Saturday, as no-one can make his actual birthday on the Sunday. My family will be down at a still undecided date. More cake at least!

@Dyra I agree where has the time gone! We go to a sensory class and all the young tiny baby mums are like I can't imagine my baby being that big and I can only say yeah I said the same!

Your wee fella is doing fab, love the tiara. Hope the jags go well, I'm not looking forward to these jags Ells is so strong and squirmy 😅

Hope all the ent tests go OK when you get them.

Elizabeth is doing good. Everyone at sensory class comments on how fast she crawls and I'm literally like yes it's not fun 😅 she's been pulling to stand since about November and causing for ages, she stands without holding sometimes but still lacking confidence to take her first steps on her own. She will get there. She's had a few brutal weeks with vomiting and diarrhea for 12 days combined with a double ear infection and now she's got a cold and possible tooth cutting and the tantrums can be quite intense but were getting there.

We're having a wee party at our house on her birthday so that'll be stressful good! 😅
