@bubblybrit thank you! Just spoke with my hr and they said I can start any time, I could start tomorrow if I really wanted to I just need to let them know. I’m gonna see if I can sit down more at work and failing that get a note to say so!xx

Dyra · 09/02/2022 14:53

@Cxjai792 Oh wow... Your colleagues sound like real massive dicks peaches. Absolute BS that they're complaining about having to cover things for you when you're heavily pregnant, and your manager caving into them... And they absolutely cannot force you onto maternity leave until after 36 weeks as your policy correctly states. That's a great idea about the fit note with amended duties. Definitely try to get yourself one if you want to get yourself to March. Great news that you can start whenever you want as well.

@bubblybrit Yup. Definitely can relate. I'm laying on the sofa watching DD play in the garden. I managed 2 loads of laundry and I am done. I swear I read an article once that said that the equivalent exertion to being pregnant is to run a marathon every single day of it.

@Dyra I know some people are just darlings aren’t they! I’ve found myself having to really bite my tongue at work, you know how difficult that is being a walking hormone time bomb😂just going to take it easy, see how I get on and go from there!

Catconfusion · 09/02/2022 18:23

Hey ladies, sorry I lost the thread somehow. Glad I found you all again. How is everyone getting on?

I had my growth scan at 32 weeks and baby girl is estimated to be 6 lbs 9 and is 99.9 centile. The plan is to have a c section but I’ve been told they can’t guarantee when until 4 weeks before. It’ll be between 39 and 40 weeks. Last time to spoke to someone I was told I’d have a date by now and I wouldn’t go over 39. I can’t imagine going over 39 weeks as baby is likely to be 10lbs by then. I also have arthritis in my hips so can hardly walk already.

Is anyone else having a big baby? If so what is the plan? Xx

SouthwestSis · 09/02/2022 19:43

@Catconfusion wow that does sound like you're growing a big one there! I think it's unusual to get a date until much closer to the time but I imagine they'd be sympathetic to a request to deliver you closer to 39 weeks than 40.
My baby was estimated around 90th centile and I had a plan for induction but I ended up going into labour naturally at 39+5

Catconfusion · 09/02/2022 22:40

@SouthwestSis I hope so as I’m really struggling. I feel like those uncomfortable last couple of weeks are more like the last couple of months for me. I’m no stranger to big babies. My son was born 98 centile so 9 pounds 5 at 39 plus 1 by elective.

Good you avoided the induction. I definitely think bigger babies can have quite straight forward births. Unfortunately for me I’m an older mum at nearly 43 years old plus the arthritis and big baby. A section is the most sensible choice. Unless I have some crazy quick delivery that comes out of nowhere before my section date. I guess we’ll see! Xx

Naomixx · 10/02/2022 21:27

Hi 🙋‍♀️ hope you don’t mind me joining this thread. I am expecting a baby girl, due date is 30th March. This will be my second baby

Dyra · 10/02/2022 23:09

Oof. That sounds incredibly tough @Catconfusion. Tbh, I thought that getting your date around 36-37 weeks was the norm. And I know they definitely don't like doing C-sections before 39 weeks unless it's for medical reasons, which unfortunately I don't think arthritis and a large baby count for. Sad Will you be seeing your consultant again before you get your date? If you are, I would have zero qualms about turning on the waterworks. I honestly feel for you. While I get why they would want to wait, I also 100% see why you want baby out that little bit earlier. I hope you get an earlier date.

The more the merrier @Naomixx! Welcome! How old is your first baby? Are they excited?

Hey ladies, sorry I lost the thread somehow. Glad I found you all again. How is everyone getting on?

It’ll be between 39 and 40 weeks. Last time to spoke to someone I was told I’d have a date by now and I wouldn’t go over 39. I can’t imagine going over 39 weeks as baby is likely to be 10lbs by then. I'm also having a big baby. Currently measuring on the 97th percentile for head and tum. I'm 36 weeks and getting more worried. I've been tested for GD but both times have come back negative. Now they want to measure my blood sugar. There's no one available to speak to apparently with regard to a birthing plan they just want to rescan me in two weeks time. Is this normal? So wish I had one of those straight forward births!
Catconfusion · 11/02/2022 09:58

Thanks @Dyra As hard as it is I have no problem with carrying on to 39 weeks so the lungs can develop. They agree it’s a good idea to get her out at 39 weeks exactly it’s literally a scheduling thing. It’ll depend on who else they need to do sections for at that time. It just annoys me that the last registrar told me I’d have a date by now and it would be 39 weeks. Now I’m being told it depends on the schedule and I might not know for another few weeks. I’m not sure why but consultant led appointments are being being taken by registrars at our hospital. I only spoke to a consultant once at 12 weeks. It wasn’t like this with my son two years ago. Sorry rant over. I’m sure it’ll be ok. I’m seeing my midwife next week so hopefully she can help clarify what’s going to happen. Xx

Catconfusion · 11/02/2022 10:06

@HopefulRose can I ask how old you are? It’s looking likely baby is just big if the GD test was negative. I had two tests with my son. Turned out he was just on the larger size. If you are under 40 years old they will probably just see how baby is looking at the next scan. Bigger babies quite often come easily with no complications so if age isn’t a factor you can probably have the birth you want. It’s usually when they’re over the 97th they start talking about inductions and c sections. My son was on the 99th centile but was 9 pounds 5 and born on the 98th at 39 weeks exactly. Had I been younger and not had arthritis I would have felt fine to have a natural birth. It was however recommended due to my age to have an induction or section. I chose section and it was great and definitely the right choice for us.

Do you have a midwife appointment coming up? Could you discuss the birth plan then? I know it’s difficult since you’re waiting for the next scan but you should still be able to have what you want. Xx

Naomixx · 12/02/2022 22:40

Thank you 😊 my son is 3 and is very excited haha I am glad to be having one of each now. Hope everyone else is getting on ok.

bubblepond · 14/02/2022 07:35

Hi everyone, I've not been here for a while, sorry to be so silent! Hope everyone is doing well :)
I'm now being induced in mid March due to GDM. Anyone else with GDM? Thankfully I'm not needing to take insulin at the moment, just on metformin

bubblepond · 14/02/2022 07:41

Also had COVID over the last couple of weeks but thankfully no complications

bubblybrit · 14/02/2022 09:43

@bubblepond. No experience of GD but I’m glad that you are keeping well given that you’ve had Covid. Have they given you a date for your induction? My little one is breech so I need to have a scan in 2/3 weeks to see if she has moved naturally. If not then they could try an ECV but I’ve been told that it’s only 50% successful so may need to prepare myself for a c section (which I don’t really want!).

Is anyone having difficulty in choosing a name? I’m getting super stressed as a name that I really love is far too similar to the name of my DD so need to rule it out. I’ve got 3 or 4 other possibilities but not sure if I love any of them at the minute.

Derbee · 14/02/2022 14:44

@bubblepond I have GD, which they diagnosed after my GTT. I am testing bloods 4x per day, and currently diet controlled. I am having growth scans every 3 weeks. Last one estimated baby at 5lb 4 oz (at 34 weeks exactly).

I’ve been told that with GD I will be offered induction at 40+6, whilst if I hadn’t been diagnosed I would be offered induction at 40+10, so a difference of only 4 days. If my numbers continue to be well controlled, and baby is a normal size, I’m thinking I will likely decline the early induction, and see what happens over the 4 days...

MiracleBaby2022 · 14/02/2022 16:59

@bubblybrit yes I'm struggling big time with names too!! I'm seriously clueless and it's stressing me out as well. I've got quite a few I've jotted down but there's not really one name that I can say I really love. The poor little girl will just have to be called Poppet! I'm just hoping that the day she arrives she'll just be one of those names naturally...

SouthwestSis · 14/02/2022 19:01

@bubblepond I had GD but was diet controlled only so they were happy to let me go to 40 weeks as my sugars were well controlled and baby not massive on growth scans.
I was booked for induction at 40 weeks (NICE guidance is that outcomes are best for baby if you deliver by 40+ 6 and the induction process itself can sometimes take up to 3 days) but I went into spontaneous labour at 39+ 6 anyway.
If you're needing metformin then they may recommend induction a little earlier.
My top tip is to walk/do housework for 20 mins immediately after eating as much as possible, this really helped keep my sugars down.
And Oppo ice cream!

bubblybrit · 14/02/2022 19:40

@MiracleBaby2022. Thank goodness I’m not the only one struggling. I had a boys name pinned down but then we found out the sex as part of the harmony test and I’ve been in a panic ever since. I really want to choose a name before she is born as family will try and sway me once she arrives which I don’t want!

Caass45 · 14/02/2022 20:03

We've all been so quiet, how are we all? Half way through Feb already 😅 where does the time go!

Thankfully my husbands almost back to normal. Baby seems to have developed frequent hiccups the last few days. They don't last long about 5 minutes but some days she gets them 3 times a day! Some things you read say its good some say its not. Will deffo mention it to midwife at next appointment.

Still only half way through My hospital bag. Finding it hard as I use a lot 9f the things I need to pack. What snacks do people think they will pack? Don't want to seem like a super unhealthy mum with my countless chocolate bars 😅

MiracleBaby2022 · 14/02/2022 20:21

@bubblybrit oh no you definitely don't want family involved if they are likely to try and sway you. It's just so hard isn't it! Let's hope we both find a name soon 🤞🏼

Caass45 · 14/02/2022 20:32

Oops apparently we haven't been quiet I've just missed 5 days 😅

bubblybrit · 14/02/2022 20:54

@MiracleBaby2022. I hope so 🤞 currently trying to pack my hospital bag and realised that I’ve still got a lot of things left to buy! So between that and the baby name I feel super stressed lol 😂

Dyra · 14/02/2022 21:37

@Caass45 I've got cereal bars and my favourite gummy sweets. I'll get some things like pasties to store in my fridge in a few weeks to chow down on (if I can!) when labour starts. Sweets are for short bursts of energy during labour. The cereal bars are more for afterwards (when I'm ravenous!). Baby is also a regular hiccuper, but not to the extent their big sister was.... She had a fair amount of hair on her head, and an impressive amount of lanugo. My little werewolf cub. 🥰

I finally got around to washing baby clothes from the loft. ☺️ They're so tiny! Annoyingly, I've found I haven't got any 0-1 month stuff. I swear I had some, but no. First size, yes. 0-3, absolutely. But no 0-1. Gah. Least I've got an excuse to do some shopping now.

Hi Everyone.
Sorry ive been awol. Me and Hubby have both been recovering from covid and trying to decorate the nursery.
I had another growth scan last week at 33 weeks and baby is approx 5lb. Im worried he/she is going to be quite big 😱
We are also not set on names and there is nothing i love. Its so hard.
Ive had some braxton hicks tonight which has made everything feel pretty real and im starting to feel a bit anxious about the real deal 😬
Hospital bags are packed, just need to add some more snacks.
Hope everyone is getting a bit more sleep than me... guess its all good prep 😴
