Have you all told your employer yet or are you waiting after 12 weeks?

laurenGame · 18/11/2021 16:47

Checking in 🥳
I told my boss yest as I need to have weekly scans to monitor bleeding.

I also prefer telling early as then he goes easy on me and if I'm not online or something I know it won't be an issue. I'm 7.5 weeks.

Feels weird telling a male boss I'm pregnant Blush almost embarrassing - I know that sounds ridiculous

JasmineW88 · 18/11/2021 16:50

I am waiting until near as I can to 12 weeks.
My 12weeks lands on xmas day - so I'm hoping they let me have my 12weeks scan before xmas if allowed. I have a midwife appointment on Monday so I will ask then for an actual date.
We want to announce it on xmas day if poss after the scan. So I'd like to tell my boss before then rather than him find out on social media over xmas.
Might tell him the week running up to xmas when he's in a good mood Wink
I have only been at this job for 1 year and am a manager of a team structured new for me to come in. So I feel really bad and guilty for dropping him in it so soon after starting Confused
I was at my previous employment for 8 years and the pressure and long working hours were just getting too much. We were having trouble conceiving anyway, so after the GP told us we were to be tested for infertility and then there being a possibility of being on a 2 year IVF waiting list, I made the decision to leave my old employment and try to get a less stressful job.
I figured it would be years before we actually fell pregnant anyway (since I'd convinced myself that IVF was the only solution)
Then low and behold, as the IVF referral letter arrived, we found out we'd managed to conceive naturally (was deffo stress related now looking back)

I think after explaining all of the above to him and making it clear that it wasn't my intention to start this job and get pregnant so soon - he should be ok Confused xx

Brilliant thanks @CaptainCarp - I’m not currently working so don’t have to worry about telling work but do need to let uni know so that I can make arrangements for the next academic year. I’ll probably push the next year back a year and finish then. I too would love to do a Xmas announcement but I will only be about 9 weeks by then, may still do it anyway, will see how things go!

AppleTree16 · 18/11/2021 16:59

@CaptainCarp waiting until 12 weeks / new year unless morning sickness gets really bad.

I’ve just had my flu jab so got to tell a person I’m pregnant 🤣. She was so happy for me it was lovely.

Lostintranslatio · 18/11/2021 17:30

I have not told yet and trying to wait until Christmas to make it official in work. We would like to tell our families in Christmas, if everything goes right I will 13 weeks by then.

I have booked a NIPT and I can't shake the feeling that every time I book or look sth related to pregnancy I am jeopardizing it 😂😂 I'm going nuts!

feliznavidad2 · 18/11/2021 18:00

I've let my manager know as work in healthcare. We've also let our parents and a few of my close friends know as would want to have their support if any problems.

sle0911 · 18/11/2021 18:12

Thanks for the new thread!

I have just told my boss as I work as a nurse so wanted to let her know earlier! X

CaptainCarp · 18/11/2021 18:21

As they dated me at 6+6 at the early scan i had, I'm going to be 12 weeks just as we break up for Christmas!
Think i might try & wait until January to tell my boss. Hoping to tell family on Christmas day and maybe telling our parents a couple of weeks earlier.

SamanthaVimes · 18/11/2021 18:43

Hello! I’m going to have an early scan mid Dec and assuming all is well will tell family at Christmas. I don’t think I’ll get the nhs scan until just after Xmas and I’m too impatient to wait!
Will tell work in Jan or Feb I expect.

Thenewgirl2468 · 18/11/2021 19:51

Hi everyone - I’m new here but love reading mumsnet so finally decided to join! I also just got a BFP on Monday. This is my second baby, my DD is 13 months. I am having very different symptoms this time round including being wide awake at 4am and also mild cramping on and off. With DD I had sore boobs and extreme fatigue at this stage, but my boobs are completely normal so far. I’ve taken 5 tests since Monday - can’t quite believe it!! My due date is estimated at 20/07/22. I’ve booked a private early scan as just can’t wait til January for the 12 week scan! I also have several parties etc planned over December so don’t know what I’m going to do about the drink situation! Really really don’t want to tell anyone until after 12 weeks! I’m not telling my boss until January - not sure how he’ll take it as I’m only back from DD’s mat leave since September but I don’t really care to be honest 🤣🤣

Thenewgirl2468 · 18/11/2021 19:52

And congratulations to everyone by the way!!

purpleskyssssss · 18/11/2021 20:09

Thanks @CaptainCarp 😀 I will be telling my boss after my first scan which I'll be at 9 weeks so after 2nd December.

We have told parents and sibling and close friends, we was too excited to keep it in!

ChrissyAero · 18/11/2021 20:34

I've got an early scan booked for Saturday. I'm already so nervous just thinking about it.

JNGO21 · 18/11/2021 22:06

Thanks for the new thread @CaptainCarp. At this rate we’ll need about 20 threads by July!

We have an early scan on Saturday as well @ChrissyAero- what time is yours? Mine is at 1pm. Fingers crossed for you!
We’ll probably tell people after that if all is well.

I don’t know when to tell work?! I might wait until after Christmas, unless a reason crops up.
Ahhhh!!

ChrissyAero · 18/11/2021 22:11

Oooo good luck @JNGO21

Mine is at 2.45pm. Fingers crossed for good news for us both!

CaptainCarp · 18/11/2021 22:49

I almost told my boss the other day after I'd been for my scan but decided 7 weeks was still a little early. I feel bad for telling a bit of a lie as to why I had a hospital appointment though!

We have been short staffed over the last 6months & struggled to recruit so I kind of don't want to dump it on him just before xmas that he's going to be hiring Again! I do wonder if he's already got an inclining mind.

Glad I found the new thread!!

My scan wasn’t great yesterday . They can see the sac and yolk and that's it but expected to see more. Had an internal scan and when the pulled the probe out it was covered in bright red blood. They can’t see any reason for the bleeding. I’ve got to go back again next Wednesday. If no growth they will discuss how to end the pregnancy if it doesn’t happen naturally. Don't know what to think my gut is that this isn't going to be a positive. I just want to shut myself away until Wednesday but can't with work and a 13month old. X x x

@Chh0412 I'm so sorry your scan wasn't more positive. What dates did you estimate you were at?

Fingers crossed that you see growth next Wednesday. Hugs to you.

I really have to commend you ladies whom are working full time during these early stages. I have my own business and work from home and I've literally been working 3hrs a day (doing the minimal important stuff) and going straight back to bed. I've been feeling exhausted and completely demotivated to do anything.

PleaseSendNoodles · 19/11/2021 02:30

Hey! Glad I’ve found the new thread, too! I typed a response on the old one before realising it was full. What an idiot 😆

@JJ1992 and @JasmineW88 both of your ‘reveals’ to your partners sound better than mine… emailing him and waiting two days for a reaction 🙈 such a weird way to find out!
