Feeling so sick today. Seem to have avoided it until now but this afternoon every time I move or see or think about food I have a sicky burp. Those of you who are really suffering with sickness and nausea I salute you!

Is anyone planning getting NIPT at 10 weeks - and any recommendations for who to go with? Ultrasound Direct seem to be £400.

StinWom · 19/09/2021 19:47

@maymum94 @Positive21 thank you ☺️

aNewYorkerInLondon · 19/09/2021 20:04

@SerendipitySunshine, we've chosen the Panorama NIPT test. It takes a bit longer for the results but it can provide some additional information that Harmony doesn't. They're all quite good though.

Positive21 · 19/09/2021 20:34

@SerendipitySunshine I hadn't considered it. Does the NHS run these tests anyway? Finding out before 20 weeks would obviously be better but that's a lot of money isn't it 😅

aNewYorkerInLondon · 19/09/2021 20:45

@Positive21, it's my understanding that the only way the NHS would cover an NIPT is if the nuchal test came back with a concerning result, but I'm not sure if even then. It's said to be more accurate than the nuchal test. As an older mum-to-be, I found room in the budget.

There are packages you can buy from private scan places. Like a discount if you have multiple of your scabs with them, or, the one I saw in the paperwork yesterday (Fetal Medicine Centre in London) was if you pay for the NIPT and get a bad result, they will do the amino or cvs test without an additional charge (they're not just a sonogram place, but do lots of anti natal care. My GP recommended them and The Portland for private scans).

Anyway, short version: you can shop around for something to hit your needs, if desired.

SerendipitySunshine · 19/09/2021 20:51

Yes, I think the NHS sometimes offers when it's a high risk result from the 12 week scan and combined tests. But I've had a very high risk pregnancy previously and this is an IVF pregnancy, so I'm very concerned to get the baby tested so we can prepare ourselves either way.

Hey everyone, hope everyone’s okay.

I had some mild cramping last night and spotting and instantly fell apart with worry. OH was so worried we went to a&e as the maternity unit was shut and no answer from nhs 111. They checked me over but refused to do a scan saying it’s too early (I’m 7weeks) but when I pushed they gave me a number to call to see if I can get a scan this week.
Hardly any spotting or blood this morning but I think I still need to know everything is okay.
We have a private scan booked for the 3rd Oct so I might see if the nhs can’t fit me in if they can move my appointment up.

I haven’t stop crying and last night I just kept telling my husband how sorry I was. Don’t know how I’m going to work today.. guess I might need to tell my manager early

aNewYorkerInLondon · 22/09/2021 08:28

@AllyCat31, I'm sorry you had such a stressful night and that you are going through this. It sounds like you have a wonderfully supportive husband. What area do you live in? I'd bet if you call around to private scan clinics that you can get something booked in the next couple of days. We had a scan at 7 weeks + 1 day and it was very reassuring. You've said that the spotting has nearly stopped, so that is probably a good sign, but I totally get needing some reassurance.

No matter what happens though, nothing you did would be causing any issues at this point. It is completely OK to be scared and upset and worried and everything else, but there is nothing you need to be sorry for.

Positive21 · 22/09/2021 09:11

@AllyCat31 fingers crossed everything is ok. Hoping you can get a scan sorted for some reassurance xx

AllyCat31 · 22/09/2021 10:51

We’re currently in Ayrshire where the hospitals aren’t great @aNewYorkerInLondon
I’ve called our clinic where we had a private scan booked and they’ve moved that up to the earliest they can but that’s still in a weeks time. If we were in Glasgow we might get seen quicker.
None of the nhs numbers are connecting this morning or ringing, saying user busy and cutting me off. Thankfully the spotting has all but stopped now so I’m not too panicked. I did some pregnancy tests last night and they were super strong so gonna do another one now and check it’s not getting weaker. It’s all I can do for now.
Thank you @Positive21

Having the exact same issue here :-( Woke up this morning and saw pinkish/brownish blood when I wiped. It's still happening this afternoon. It's not heavy, and it's not bright red so I'm trying to hold on to some hope that it might be implantation bleeding (am 7w3d though so seems a bit late for that?). Ive left a message with the Early pregnancy assessment unit but no call back yet. Worst thing is we're supposed to be going on holiday on Friday so doubt I'll be able to get a scan before we go. Don't really fancy miscarrying on holiday or worse just not knowing whats going on. feel shaky and can't concentrate :-(
AllyCat31 · 22/09/2021 13:50

@Northofthebordermum sorry to hear you’re going through this too! Can you try and book a private? I was looking round here but couldn’t get one but if you can drive maybe there’s a place in Carlisle (I’m guessing you’re near the Scottish border from your username)
I’m 7w1d and just had a call from the midwife. She said it’s very common up until 10 weeks to get brownish spotting. Mine is brown and hardly anything today and only when I wipe so she’s fairly happy with that. She was very calm and put me at ease. Says it’s only a real problem if I was bleeding through pads, bright red blood, blood that’s flowing and/or severe cramps.
I’ve got a scan tomorrow morning at the early pregnancy unit just to be in the safe side so I’ll hopefully get some reassurance tomorrow or at least find out the worst. Pregnancy test mid morning was even darker than yesterdays before bed so that’s something.

Northofthebordermum · 22/09/2021 14:24

Thank you so much for this @AllyCat31. Feel a bit reassured as no real cramping or pain and it is very light and brown and only when I wipe. Fingers crossed. Hopefully I can speak to a midwife today and maybe get a scan, either NHS or private, tomorrow to put my mind at rest before we go away.

I know it sounds silly but quite surprised by how stressed and upset this has made me feel. We’ve been really busy with other stuff so don’t think I quite realised how attached i’d got to this little bean in the 4 weeks or so since I found out I was pregnant.

AllyCat31 · 22/09/2021 14:49

No problem at all @Northofthebordermum that’s exactly what this is here for. Yeah it absolutely floored me last night. I couldn’t believe how distressed I was, instantly felt like my heart was breaking but I feel less dramatic and more calm now I’ve spoken to the midwife. Hope you can get hold of one soon x

Northofthebordermum · 22/09/2021 16:58

Managed to get a scan for tomorrow morning but sadly the bleeding has increased and is now bright red. Sad Expecting the worst now. Trying to be pragmatic about it. Guess it just wasn't my time this time.

SerendipitySunshine · 22/09/2021 17:36

Sending lots of love @Northofthebordermum

AllyCat31 · 22/09/2021 18:11

I’m so sorry @Northofthebordermum please look after yourself as best you can x

aNewYorkerInLondon · 22/09/2021 18:21

@Northofthebordermum sending much love. Do try to get a scan if you can. My dear friend had bright red bleeding and it ended up being a subchorionic hemorrhage and her baby was ok. I know that's happened to ladies here too. You have every right to push your doctors for a scan or go to A&E.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 23/09/2021 09:47

@Northofthebordermum - just wanted to check in and see how you are today Daffodil

AllyCat31 · 23/09/2021 11:06

Spotting has all but stopped now as well as the cramping. Scan this morning showed 6w5d (I thought I would be 7w2d) and a little heartbeat. I could barely look at the screen, I was just crying with relief. I have to go back if I bleed again and they’ll check for infection etc.

Due May 22
AllyCat31 · 23/09/2021 11:07

Also just wanted to say I’m thinking of you @Northofthebordermum and hoping you’re okay x

aNewYorkerInLondon · 23/09/2021 11:35

@AllyCat31, I'm so pleased for you! That little heart flutter is the most magical thing!

Northofthebordermum · 23/09/2021 11:48

Thanks so much for the support, sadly the scan this morning confirmed what I’d feared. Have made my peace with it today-will be trying again as soon as I can and hopefully next time will be the one!

AllyCat31 · 23/09/2021 11:51

Thank you @aNewYorkerInLondon but feels bitter sweet when others aren’t getting that reassurance.
