Hi Ladies, I've been getting impatient lately as my energy has dropped and I'm huge! Baby is measuring ahead and I have extra amniotic fluid around the baby. They are talking about induction so I guess its nearly time for me...

Anybody else? X

40+2 here. Going to walk up the big hill and round the woods this afternoon and see if that gets things moving (even though my partner would prefer me to avoid being in hospital when the football is on haha 🙂)

RachShad · 10/07/2021 11:51

Aww bless you, I feel like I'm patiently waiting with you to say baby is here as well 😂🙈 I'm 39 weeks today and hoping she comes this week!! Hahaha how funny about the football, my partner would be the same- priorities eh 😂😂😂

BlackberrySt · 10/07/2021 14:59

He did say, oh well maybe if it’s a long labour it would be good to have the football on as a distraction? And then gave me a very hopeful/beseeching look

MillyJS · 11/07/2021 10:14

Hi everyone! Hope you don't mind me joining :)

I'm 38.5 weeks pregnant with my first and am SO uncomfortable. I can barely walk 10 steps without wanting to cry (I'm suffering with pregnancy sciatica) & just feel huge. Baby's kicks are also getting painful as they're running out of room - my ribs appear to be fair game for kicking 😂

The thought of being pregnant for up to another 3.5 weeks is awful - like you all I just want the baby OUT!

RachShad · 11/07/2021 11:34

Oooo I'm sorry to hear about the sciatica!! That must be really hard, I have pain in my hips and pelvis now and that's bad enough. So annoying though because near the end you wana walk loads to get things moving but that will make it tough!! Yeah my ribs are sore too, I thought babies are meant to 'drop' near the end haha?
Let us know how you get on!! Other arrivals at the min are the only thing keeping me going knowing we will be next, its just dragging!

BlackberrySt · 11/07/2021 12:51

Hi @MillyJS welcome 🙂sciatica sounds awful- my sister gets it sometimes, it’s really rough. Hope you don’t have to wait the full 3.5wks.

I have an induction booked for the 19th... would prefer not to be induced of course bur thank goodness worst case scenario for me now is just 1 more week. Whew

Ctvyh7h7 · 11/07/2021 12:52

Welcome @MillyJS do you know if you're having a little boy/girl? I know what you mean about the painful kicks - I remember when I used to think the kicks were quite cute about 6 weeks ago, but now they just hurt!

I'm feeling more positive and less anxious today. I was sure baby was coming yesterday after having cramps all morning, backache, other signs that are TMI, but then nothing happened and nothing today so was a false alarm! But it has got me excited now. Its just a frustrating waiting game for us all now isn't it!

@BlackberrySt did the walk get things moving? Do you have a sweep booked in? I next see the midwife at 40+3

BlackberrySt · 11/07/2021 13:05

@Ctvyh7h7 ha nope unfortunately he’s still very much tucked up inside having a relaxing time, only thing that happened on the walk was I got very hot and a little cross! Going for another walk this afternoon... it rained lots this morning so hopefully it’s less humid.

I should be able to have a sweep on Thursday morning at my 41wk appointment. Last time my cervix was still too tightly closed so I’m hoping the next sweep will be better.

I didn’t realise they actually try to touch the baby’s head when they do a sweep!

Have you had one yet or will this be the first?

Ah frustrating the craps didn’t come to anything. Hopefully it’s a sign your body is gearing up though. It’s so funny getting excited about being in pain! I think I would be delighted to have contractions. At least to begin with anyway 🙂

BlackberrySt · 11/07/2021 13:07

Haha that should be frustrating the CRAMPS didn’t come to anything not the craps!

MillyJS · 11/07/2021 13:08

@RachShad Yes exactly! I can't 'walk the baby out', but not sure consistently laying on the sofa horizontal is going to have the same affect 😂

@BlackberrySt Thank you! Is your induction booked as you'll be 'overdue' by a certain amount by then? I don't have my next midwife appointment until I'm almost 40 weeks so think they'll offer me a sweep then & see how things go.

@Ctvyh7h7 Thank you - that sounds positive though, hopefully things start happening again for you soon🤞🏻 We're having a little boy, do you know what you're having?

My bump's been measuring in the 97th percentile for months but it dropped last week so I've got to go in for a scan this week to check everything's ok. I'm expecting to see a 10lb giant on the screen 😬

BlackberrySt · 11/07/2021 13:16

@MillyJS yeah I was offered the option to book one at my 40wk appointment. Not sure if that’ll be the same everywhere. Would you chose an induction if you go over?

Good luck for the scan!

BlackberrySt · 11/07/2021 13:18

Oh also I’d be 11 days over due by the 19th, I think they usually induce around 10-12 days over.

Hehe I’m spamming the thread sorry!

MillyJS · 11/07/2021 14:15

@BlackberrySt Honestly the entire pregnancy I've been adamant I don't want to be induced, but I'd probably take them up on it now if I go over! How are you feeling about yours?

Ctvyh7h7 · 11/07/2021 14:23

I didn't know they try to touch baby's head either! Is it uncomfortable having the sweep? Or didnt they manage to get that far last time? Sorry for the questions! (Yes you have probably guessed 40+3 will be my first sweep but that's not for another 9 days yet) Good luck for your 41 week sweep!!

Also having a little boy @MillyJS 💙 it seems there are lots of boys being born this year! Gosh your little one is huge. The scans and measurements are often wrong though so you won't know for sure until he's born 😬 I wonder if they offer you induction earlier though because of his size - you'll have to let us know how you get on!

BlackberrySt · 11/07/2021 16:28

@MillyJS I’m not worried about the induction really - I guess I might be when it’s time to go in, but the idea of it doesn’t bother me. I haven’t researched it much though. I was planning on giving the hospital a call tomorrow and checking what the process is so I know what to expect. I am still hoping to give birth at the birth centre in the small town where I live - I would have to go to the big hospital for induction which is about 40mins away.

@Ctvyh7h7 she didn’t manage to get as far as the baby’s head at my 40wk appointment. It was uncomfortable but not too bad, like a 2/10 for discomfort? I wonder if it’s more painful if they do the full sweep... I’m sure it’s nothing compared to actually giving birth! 😬

RachShad · 11/07/2021 17:12

What's the earliest they will do a sweep then? The hospital in my area said they only let people go over by 1 week in total unless you say you don't want to be started off yet then obviously it's your choice. I will be taking any opportunity to be started off I think, im totally sick of waiting. 39+1 now, going to go for a walk soon and get back in time for the football haha, hopefully they do well so I can purposely jump up and down to celebrate 🤣🤣 wonder how many partners would be annoyed if it happened tonight though hahaha

Ctvyh7h7 · 11/07/2021 17:22

I wonder how many babies will be born tonight from labours brought on by the excitement of the football 🤣

onanadventure · 11/07/2021 17:30

Can you request induction?
I'm a ball of nerves at the moment, as with baby inside if anything goes wrong it's my fault and they'll be safer out than in at this point.

Ctvyh7h7 · 11/07/2021 17:37

@BlackberrySt I'm sure we will both know soon enough what the full sweep / labour feels like! One of them has to come soon!

BlackberrySt · 11/07/2021 17:41

@onanadventure oh no please don’t think it’ll be your fault - how could it be?

Not sure if you can request an induction, could be worth asking your midwife about?

onanadventure · 11/07/2021 17:55

@BlackberrySt I dunno.
I've been able to keep a lid on my anxiety for most of my pregnancy, but since reaching full term I've had some offhand comments that she's better out than in, and it's just thrown my head a bit.

MillyJS · 11/07/2021 18:27

@Ctvyh7h7 Thanks - will do! It's odd as I don't look enormous (although I certainly feel it!). I think maybe because I'm carrying all at the front it's 'bigger' but who knows! Hopefully the scan will show a perfectly average sized baby 😬

Ooh good luck with all your sweeps everyone! I hope they gets things started for you!

And yes, let's all jump up & down at the football in the hopes labour starts 🥳

BlackberrySt · 11/07/2021 18:50

@onanadventure hmm just done some googling and there seem to be a lot of articles suggesting it’s better for the baby to go full term (good for brain development especially). So that’s great if you’re already full term, the baby is getting its best chance of being healthy. This article also suggests that the risks of going overdue are low

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK279571/

How far over are you? Sorry if you’ve said already and I’ve missed it. If the people saying ‘better out than in’ aren’t medical professionals then I’d be tempted to ignore them! 🙂

I think this waiting around isn’t good for anxiety. Too much time to over think! I’ve definitely had days when I’ve felt a bit down. I reckon it must be common for nerves to kick in at this point though, it’s just strange times really!

BlackberrySt · 11/07/2021 18:55

Oh sorry just to explain I meant full term as in 40wks, to the due date. So it’s ideal for health reasons for baby to go to 40wks even though 38wks is considered full term.

I'm 39w.

Its not medical people who have said, just helpful comments (not helpful) by randoms but my brain has latched on them.

I usually have anxiety quite badly, so am pleased I've kept it at bay mostly til now.
As long as she comes out OK, it'll all be OK
