Hi Ladies, I've been getting impatient lately as my energy has dropped and I'm huge! Baby is measuring ahead and I have extra amniotic fluid around the baby. They are talking about induction so I guess its nearly time for me...

Anybody else? X

@SamoyedFan123 how are you getting on?

SamoyedFan123 · 27/06/2021 12:19

@SamG93 hope everything went well and you're enjoying newborn snuggles now 😊

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE sorry I've been quiet - had a rough few days. My baby decided to turn breech on Thursday so that threw all plans into chaos. Was struggling mentally for a few days a everything was in limbo and I was pretty scared, but I've now managed to get an ECV booked for Tuesday. If it's successful then we'll go straight into the induction. If it doesn't work I've made my peace with coming home and waiting for Labour to start at trying a vaginal breech birth. Scary prospect as baby is huge already (9lb 5oz on Thursday's scan). Now my main worry is how painful the ECV is going to be, and the possibly that something will go wrong at it, resulting in an EMCS.

How are you? Is your induction still planned for tomorrow?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 27/06/2021 12:52

Induction planned for tomorrow. Dreading it.

Sorry things went a bit crazy for you @SamoyedFan123, i have no exp of ECV or breech vaginal birth. It all sounds a bit scary. Flowers

Olivebranch26 · 27/06/2021 19:42

@SamoyedFan123 Oh sorry to hear baby had other plans for you, hope they manage to turn into a good position for you 🤞

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE How exciting your going to meet your baby soon! Mines booked for Friday so I can definitely understand how anxious you must be, even though I've had a good experience with an induction before it's still scary to know the exact date everything will be happening. Can I ask why your dreading it? Hope you manage some sleep tonight x

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE good luck for tomorrow! Maybe we'll still be induction buddies in you're still going on Tuesday and my ECV is successful 😁

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/06/2021 06:41

Thanks!

@Olivebranch26 i think if might just be fear of the unknown, plus alot of induction birth stories online are not positive

@SamoyedFan123 not gonna lie but i really hope i'm not still going tomorrow Grin good luck with your ECV

Olivebranch26 · 28/06/2021 08:26

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE it is definitely scary, your not alone on that one, but all will be fine! Have you been checked at all for any dilation?

Baby boy born just after midnight 💙 fairly long labour, no induction just broken waters followed by long wait to get past 4cm

How are you @Olivebranch26?

Olivebranch26 · 29/06/2021 08:53

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE ah congratulations! Well done, sounds like you were labouring quite a few hours then but fantastic you only had your waters broken to kick you off. Hope your both doing great, its all over for you now 😊

Going for my sweep today (hopefully cervix isn't closed shut anymore) and to check bp. So lovely to hear your news this morning.

BlackberrySt · 29/06/2021 10:47

Congratulations @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE brilliant news! Hope all’s well with you and baby.

Good luck for your sweep @Olivebranch26 hopefully it gets things moving.

I am too hot and totally convinced this baby is going to take his own sweet time. I’ll be 39wks on Thursday but haven’t even had the mildest of twinges and can still walk without waddling.

SamoyedFan123 · 29/06/2021 12:06

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE congratulations lovely! Did like it was a good experience for you 😊 I'm anxiously waiting to go in for my ECV this afternoon 🤞🤞
@Olivebranch26 hope the sweep works for you!
@BlackberrySt i feel you - I'm 38+3 but haven't had any twinges, mucus plug and baby isn't engaged so not at all confident that my induction is going to work even if the ECV is successful.

BlackberrySt · 29/06/2021 16:41

Good luck @SamoyedFan123 hope it all works out! Let us know how things go

Olivebranch26 · 29/06/2021 17:03

Thanks guys, well I went for my sweep and unfortunately the midwife couldn't even reach my cervix! Definitely not what I was hoping for... baby is engaged but he doesn't seem to be ready to come out anytime soon. Nevermind might be a long induction Friday.

SamoyedFan123 · 29/06/2021 18:03

@Olivebranch26 frustrating for you, but it won't be long now!

I arrived for my ECV this afternoon only to find that my little monkey had turned himself head down again so I've managed to avoid that painful procedure. Had a sweep and my first pessary inserted so now installed on the induction ward and settling down to wait 😊

Olivebranch26 · 29/06/2021 19:26

@samoyedFan123 Thanks your right ill get there soon. Thats great your baby flipped by himself and your induction has started. Good luck, your well on your way now! Grin

Is anyone nearing their due date considering isolating beforehand?
I'm 38w on Friday, and finishing work and was considering it as numbers are beginning to go up again
I can't find any advice on it- but I really don't want to get covid before labour (especially with the new symptoms of headache and runny nose as I get hayfever so could miss it.)

I'm doing lateral flow tests but I've heard the new variant isn't picked up by them? (that might be wrong tho as heard it via anecdotes)

Ctvyh7h7 · 29/06/2021 20:04

Hi can I join in? I'm expecting first baby (little boy 💙) 2 weeks on Saturday so a day after you @onanadventure
I'm not shielding but am not meeting anyone indoors, including family, and being picky about who I meet outdoors.
Baby has been engaged since growth scan at 31 weeks so feels like a long time coming now! But I've heard first babies can get into position early. Ive been having regular BH and over last couple of weeks have started having irregular lower back aches - but I've got to the stage where I think I am symptom spotting now!
Congratulations to the new mummies on here and good luck to everyone having sweeps/inductions over the next few days! Hope you all have good births and healthy babies 👶

onanadventure · 29/06/2021 20:40

I'm the same - had BH all the time, and a few other aches and pains...
Trusting my body will make it very obvious when it actually progresses from symptoms to labour.

no show yet either or waters, so fairly chilled i'll know when it's labour

BlackberrySt · 30/06/2021 08:16

I am definitely symptom spotting too! Even though there is barely anything to spot haha.

I hadn’t thought about isolating but actually it’s not a bad idea depending on your circumstances? I live rurally in a county with low case numbers, and I’ve had my 1st jab. I think if I lived in a town with higher numbers I’d think about limiting social contact more.

@Ctvyh7h7 @onanadventure are you trying anything to speed things up? Like using a birthing ball?

Ctvyh7h7 · 30/06/2021 10:11

@BlackberrySt I haven't bought a birthing ball and I haven't bothered with raspberry leaf tea either. A friend of mine used a birthing ball and went straight into labour at 38 weeks (despite family history of overdue babies) so it is tempting! Are you trying anything? When are you due?

BlackberrySt · 30/06/2021 11:04

I’m due next Thursday, the 8th. So am I a week(ish) ahead of you? I’m expecting a boy as well, it’s my first baby too.

The only thing I’ve been doing is making sure I’m going for walks. Think I’m lucky that I can still walk a fair distance, 3 miles is alright. Only thing is my hands swell up like crazy each time and take a while to deflate.

Haha I am tempted by a birthing ball again now too after your comment about your friend... I was having a look at them before but didn’t get one as I’ve spent the last 2 months buying so much stuff!

onanadventure · 30/06/2021 13:06

This might inspire me to get the birthing ball out when I finish work on Friday.
I've got raspberry leaf tablets and doing lots of walking / swimming (swimming more cause I enjoy it than to speed anything up)

I'm limiting contact massively and from friday not going to shops etc...
Not yet vaccinateed - tho I've got my covid jab booked for next Friday - wondering if I should try to bring it sooner - or push it back a bit.
I want to do what's best for baby, and can't work out if that's be vaccinated or not!

baby might have turned up by then tho, so who knows!

BlackberrySt · 30/06/2021 13:55

Yeah the covid jab is something of a dilemma - I decided to get it when I was around 32wks as I thought on balance the risks to the baby/to me as a pregnant woman if I catch covid are probably greater than any risk associated with the vaccine itself? But if I was offered it right at the end of my pregnancy I might have just waited as you only start to build up immunity after a few weeks so it wouldn’t offer much protection while still pregnant anyway?

Just read that sitting backwards on a chair with your arms resting on the top of the chair is good for encouraging baby to rest against the cervix too.

Ctvyh7h7 · 30/06/2021 17:58

I decided not to get the jab because I was only offered it at around 34 weeks and thought I'm not going to be fully vaccinated until after baby arrives anyway so may as well wait until he is here. Now I don't want the vaccination too soon after birth as want to give time for body to recover, then my excuse to delay it after that will be that I don't want to risk being ill/rundown from the vaccination when my fella is back at work Grin

Although I am also concerned the jab will become less accessible soon - our mass vaccination centre is closing soon (its the local arena so assume opening back up for events) and I hear that lots of GPs are stopping vaccinating now too, so probably best not to delay for too long!

onanadventure · 30/06/2021 22:27

It's hard isn't it.
If I was a month or two away I would have booked it - but I only got the call a couple of weeks ago and all local slots were booked up and soonest i could get is next week (a week before due date)

It's tricky - I def don't want COVID as the risk of that to both me and baby is a lot,, but if it takes a few weeks to be protected then I might as well wait.
At the same time tho, maybe better to get the jab before baby in case I get run down and also have to juggle a newvborn.

Dunno why it makes me so nervous - I've had no issues with the other vaccines and things docs have said.
