Anyone else wondering if they are pregnant with twins?

Just that really.

Think on Friday I will be about 6 weeks pregnant. I've been feeling SO thirsty all the time for a few weeks now. Never had that with other pregnancies. Also got loads of stretching feelings going on in my uterus often throughout the day. Also it is uncomfortable leaning forwards, I already feel like there is something in there and I tho k my stomach looks bigger already too.

I am still breastfeeding a 1 Yr old so I know that increases chances by 9 times, and my dad is a fraternal twin.

Feeling sick already although only one morning so far has it felt absolutely awful.

Anyone else feeling similar?

This is my 4th pregnancy, I have a 1yr old and 3yr old. I had a c section last time though so realise the stretching feeling may have something to do with that, or maybe the fact I am still breastfeeding... Excited to find out anyway!

I felt terrible in the 1st trimester and was quite bloeted from 8wk, I expected them to say twins at my dating scan. Even at 16+4wk scan I thought they might say there was one hiding but nope just the one.
I had no idea and extremely shocked to be told 2 heartbeats when we did have fraternal twins in my last term pregnancy (baby 4&5). They were an unexpected coil pregnancy and I was sent for an early scan, they measured over 7wk. I had them via elcs as they were breech and things felt different early on with this one, I think some of that must be down to nerve damage around the scar tissue.

ChikiTIKI · 02/06/2021 18:15

That's really interesting to hear @chelyanne
Congrats on all your lovely babies!

My two children are the same sex, so maybe this one is just the opposite sex, or maybe not!!

I'm pregnant with twins, and I got to say I was so thirsty in the first trimester, I googled it to see was it normal as it was my first pregnancy, and there was an old wise tail that kept coming up saying excessive thirst was a sign of twins, me and my partner laughed at it, low and behold on the 12 week scan there was 2! Lol I was very sick aswell during my first trimester but I'm not too sure if that was normal morning sickness.

ChikiTIKI · 02/06/2021 18:27

@kerbearr congrats on your twin pregnancy! I have read the same thing about extreme thirst too over the last few days but it's exciting to have a real person say its happened to them too and turned out to be twins!

It's not much more than a year since I had a c section and we were expecting it to take well over a year to get pregnant again as that's what happened last time. So if it is twins, I am a bit worried about the c section scar and if it can take the strain. Also we will need to move house 😅

Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy and beyond 🙂

I had twins and I had zero symptoms x

kerbearr · 02/06/2021 18:36

@ChikiTIKI thank you 😊 keep us posted now if it's twins, I'm curious to see if this thirst thing proves to be right again.

I'm 33 weeks now and finding it a struggle everything hurts and I finished work earlier than what I wanted but I've nothing to compare it too, I'm not hugely big I've had to buy maternity jeans but all dresses and tshirts still fit me, so you never know the strain on your body may not be too bad, if it turns out to be twins.

Crazydoglady123 · 02/06/2021 18:45

I'm 6+2 with twins (early scan today) and I wouldn't say I'm excessively thirsty but the extreme fatigue is a killer! No sickness but I didn't with my DS. Already feel like I'm starting to show but mines an IVF pregnancy and my ovaries are still quite big so not sure if that's why I feel big for 6 weeks

Ogwen · 02/06/2021 19:25

I’m 7 weeks today, and I’ve been googling twin symptoms this afternoon!

It’s my second pregnancy, but with a big age gap- I’m 41 and have an 11 year old DS. He has always wanted a sibling so given my age I don’t want him to know until after the scan because he’d be so disappointed if it didn’t work out, but I feel like I already look about 4 months pregnant!

Trouble is, I also have IBS, and I’d put on a bit of weight in lockdown, so it’s hard to know if my ‘bump’ is a baby (or 2?!), food, or just wind! I have been burping an awful lot, but that was also a symptom I remember from my first pregnancy just before the nausea got really bad.

I hadn’t heard about thirst being a symptom. I’ve definitely noticed I’ve been extra thirsty the last few weeks.

Yes! I don't know why, I just have a gut feeling. I'm really praying I'm not as my babies will be 18 months apart. Having my first private scan next Sunday at 7+ weeks so might find out then Smile

IndigoJam · 02/06/2021 19:38

I found out I was pregnant with twins 10 days ago but I knew before then. I was extremely tired everyday. Sleeping for 10 hours a night and peeing non stop (still am) I was also bleeding a couple of times ans Google said that could be a sign of twins

Ogwen · 02/06/2021 19:39

Thanks for starting this ChikiTIKI. It’s so strange being caught between wanting to talk to my friends about the pregnancy, but also not wanting to tell anyone. And now also being caught between trying not to get my hopes up in case it doesn’t work out, and the thought it might be twins!

Crazydoglady123 · 02/06/2021 19:58

@Ogwen thank you. My DS is 9 and desperate for a sibling. Can't wait to see his face after 12 weeks when we tell him he's getting 2! Hope you don't get too bad nausea 🤞

@IndigoJam the tiredness is such much worse on this twin pregnancy than when I had my DS! I can barely keep my eyes open in the day sometimes 😬

ChikiTIKI · 02/06/2021 20:06

@ogwen Co gratulations! I feel the exact same! Very excited/worried/confused at the moment!

Congrats @indigojam! Sorry about the bleeding, I had that in my last pregnancy and it was very worrying. Hope it's smooth sailing for you from now on. I had strong cramping 3 weeks after Af and then a bit of spotting (very light pink transparent cm) for a day or two at 5 weeks, and I tested after it stopped and got a very dark line right away.

@csx99 congrats and hope all goes well at the scan!! Let us know how it goes 🥰

Sorry you're so uncomfortable @kerbearr I hope now you're off work pregnancy life will be a bit easier on your body. Not too long to wait now! Very exciting!

Congratulations @crazydoglady123 that's wonderful news. Wishing you and your two babies all the best 😍

I'm almost 9 weeks and my DH is convinced its twins! I don't really think so, but it is interesting to hear thirst is a symptom as I've been both really thirsty, but also peeing loads too!!

DH is a twin, but non identical so that's not contributing factor. However, his grandfather was an identical twin, and had 3 other sets of siblings that were identical, so ya never know!

Has anyone heard or read any truth in losing weight can cause multiple egg release, so increasing the chances of twins?

ChikiTIKI · 02/06/2021 20:34

Congrats @thelovelychebbymcgee!!
Identical twins are like a glitch in the matrix and are not hereditary, but fraternal twins are! They need to be on your side for the genetic trait though because it increases the likelihood of releasing more than one egg at once. Hadn't heard that weight loss is a factor, but high bmi is.

Where did you get the information that breastfeeding makes you 9x more likely to have twins? Or did I misread that?

ChikiTIKI · 02/06/2021 20:43

@peacefulspirit just seen it online in various places on articles like "factors that make you more likely to have twins" etc.

I genuinely didn't think I could get pregnant when breastfeeding as last time it took a year after I stopped bf to get pregnant. So although we were trying this time, we didn't expect it to work! And supposedly yes it makes you 9x more likely to have twins 😬🙂

Identical twins are a fluke of nature and anyone can have these. Fraternal twins are hereditary and men can pass this to their daughters. Twins also don't skip a generation as this is an old wives tale.

I'm pregnant with twins and the main symptoms have been heartburn and constant fullness like I've eaten a big meal all the time. Also first trimester I peer all the time.

I drink a lot of water so I can't say I've experienced more thirst

Mummytomylittlegirl · 02/06/2021 20:50

I’m pregnant with twins (30 weeks) and knew at 8 weeks. Morning sickness was terrible, unlike my first pregnancy. I had a week or two that basically felt like terrible food poisoning. I could also feel it and knew something was going on, like you describe. Whereas before I didn’t feel the pregnancy at all and was just throwing up the normal amount!

Plus I’m a fraternal twin myself!

We booked an early scan because I couldn’t wait. DH thought I was joking so he did get a shock..
