Anyone else wondering if they are pregnant with twins?

Just that really.

Think on Friday I will be about 6 weeks pregnant. I've been feeling SO thirsty all the time for a few weeks now. Never had that with other pregnancies. Also got loads of stretching feelings going on in my uterus often throughout the day. Also it is uncomfortable leaning forwards, I already feel like there is something in there and I tho k my stomach looks bigger already too.

I am still breastfeeding a 1 Yr old so I know that increases chances by 9 times, and my dad is a fraternal twin.

Feeling sick already although only one morning so far has it felt absolutely awful.

Anyone else feeling similar?

I've been reading this with interest. I had blood tests and a scan done earlier this week at 4 weeks 5 days. My hcg should have been high enough to see a sac at least, so the sonographer suggested possible ectopic, but then asked whether twins run in my family.
Two days later my hcg had almost tripled, and is high for five weeks against the normal thresholds.
I am SO thirsty all the time, and waking 3-4 times in the night to go to the loo. Only one sac was seen at 5 weeks so 🤷‍♀️

I also had four days of static smiley faces on the pink CB opks the month I got pregnant

Bluey18 · 11/06/2021 14:03

I was very suspicious I was having twins this time, they run in my family. Had strong lines early on despite having a lot of bleeding. Very, very sick from 5 and a half weeks (still medicated at 18 weeks due to sickness) when I didn't have any sickness with DD. Absolutely floored with fatigue as well.

Nope, 12 week scan confirmed one baby! Have found out he's a boy though, so maybe you will have a boy too Grin

ChikiTIKI · 11/06/2021 14:29

Hi to the new people in the thread!!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I would be very suspicious too in your shoes!

Sorry you've been so sick @bluey18 hope you feel better soon. I do think it's either a boy or twins this time for me. I can't imagine having a boy baby!!

OP posts:
Bluey18 · 11/06/2021 14:41

@ChikiTIKI. You know it didn't occur to me that it was a boy, silly as that sounds, because we have VERY girl heavy families on both sides. But I'm thrilled, I think a little brother for my DD will be very sweet ☺. And I'm sure your girls would dote on a little brother too if that's what you end up having 😊.

If your nausea is getting debilitating to the point of not drinking, please do take yourself to the doctor. There are medications that can help which will in no way harm the baby (or babies 😁). I wish I didn't suffer as long as I did before I went xx

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 11/06/2021 14:45

@Bluey18 oh that's interesting, so sick when you haven't been previously, so it could be down to the gender!
@ChikiTIKI when is your scan?

expectinglittlebear · 11/06/2021 14:48

I am curious about the twin thing too!

I am only 6+5 but I've got a bit of bump already. I know it's probably just bloat but I don't 'feel' bloated. Also my belly is harder rather than just fat, if that makes sense.

I have also been having really vivid dreams about multiple babies, so I just have this feeling.

Anyone else have this and it turned out to be true? x

isurvived3under2 · 11/06/2021 15:18

I suspected from early on that I was having twins. Extreme tiredness, all day sickness, was showing at 7 weeks. I felt absolutely hideous, 10 x worse than my first pregnancy.

I joked with my husband that there must be 2 in there to make me so sick. I was BFing my 13 month old, didn't know about the link back then. Went for a NIPT at 10 weeks and sure enough there were 2 in there.

I hope things go well for all your twin (and singleton!) pregnancies.

ChikiTIKI · 11/06/2021 20:46

Thanks for the tip @bluey18 I do feel wful when I am dehydrated so I will bear that in mind.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I don't know am 7 weeks today so in around 5 weeks... Feels like forever! When is your next scan?

@expectinglittlebear ooh let us know when you find out! I am getting a belly too and it feels quite hard.

@isurvived3under2 loving your username! Sounds like your symptoms were similar to mine. I wish I could hibernate until 12 weeks when I can have a scan!

@ChikiTIKI wow that's a long time to wait! I'm impatient so hoping to book a private one for in a couple of weeks

ChikiTIKI · 12/06/2021 08:07

I know @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7.... I have found. A place not too far away that does scans for about £60. Wondering if I should go there in a few weeks when I am 10 weeks along (I want to avoid transvaginal scan unless there are complications).

OP posts:
A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/06/2021 08:18

@ChikiTIKI is there something wrong with transvaginal? I had one already, is it safer for abdominal?

ChikiTIKI · 12/06/2021 18:44

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 no they're both totally safe. I just prefer the abdominal scan for obvious reasons! I also had a lot of transvaginal scans when I had a miscarriage and another with dd2 when we thought I was having a miscarriage... So the thought of them reminds me of all that stress too xx

I've noticed the last couple of days I'm getting really bad head rushes when I go from lying down to sitting, or sitting to standing. Also out of breath all the time!

OP posts:
A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/06/2021 08:36

@ChikiTIKI oh that makes sense. I actually don't mind them too much, but previous negative connotations won't be good.

Are you feeling okay today?

ChikiTIKI · 14/06/2021 10:37

Aww I thought I replied but mustn't have hit post.

I am feeling really sick today @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 but not actually been sick. Was sure I was going to be sick at the weekend on a walk with my parents. Probably a good thing especially as I bumped in to a colleague a few minutes later.

I'm talking myself in to a 10 week scan on 2nd July before a family get together.

How are you feeling today? Hope all is well with you.

@ChikiTIKI sorry the nausea is ramping up 😢 hope you're okay. Early scan sounds great! Two weeks 😬

WeCameToDance · 14/06/2021 12:24

Oooh, I’m in the same boat wondering whether I may have two in there!
I was 8 weeks yesterday and I just feel horrendous, so much worse than I felt with my previous two. In my last two pregnancy’s I had very mild sickness that only lasted an hour or so in the morning. This time around I’m feeling sickness all day that disappears for ten minutes if I eat something but then comes back. I have a girl and a boy as well so I don’t think it’s sex related.
I’ve got a mini bump which could well be bloating but it feels hard. I also started getting (very weak) positives at about 8dpo which seems quite early!

I’m going to be honest and say that I would prefer not to have twins and dh would really prefer not to have twins but what will be will be. I cracked an egg yesterday and it had a double yolk, immediately dh was panicking that it’s a sign Confused

TwinsAndTrifle · 14/06/2021 12:35

After my first pregnancy, having experienced morning sickness, my pregnancy this time round I felt so rough I went to the doctor and said I thought I was seriously ill, as this was like morning sickness times a thousand. I didn't get out of bed for three and a half weeks at one point.

Fraternal twins are hereditary, but only if your father has passed the twin gene down to you. It's sort of like hair colour, you get what you're given.

Just wait til the scan, rather than trying to second guess. There's nothing you should be doing at this point that's any different to a singleton birth.

RBundy · 14/06/2021 14:28

I'm thoroughly intrigued by this feed, so please keep us posted. I'm what I think is 6+6 weeks but as it was IVF I'm not sure. I've got my scan next tues but I'm confused as I've had heavy bleeding on and off for the last 2 weeks (stopped now thank god) and I'm still testing very strong positives. I'm wondering whether it is/was twins but have no idea, so reading all of your stories is very interesting. Thank you.

ChikiTIKI · 14/06/2021 18:02

Thanks @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it started easing off at 1.30pm.still don't feel good but better at least.

Ooh sounds like some good signs there @wecametodance that's funny about the double yolker too. My 1yr old has been walking around holding her "little miss twins" book an awful lot the last couple of weeks... Also my 3yr old told our childminder today that I was having a baby, apparently in a couple of weeks!! They know more than we think these kids don't they!!

Sorry you were so sick @twinsandtrifle I assume by your username you did have twins then. My dad is a fraternal twin (his twin is a brother) but I have two singletons and my cousin, she also has 2 singletons so no sign yet of the gene being passed down.

@RBundy I'm so sorry about all the bleeding you've had that must have been such a worry. The positive tests are a great sign though. Hope everything looks great at your scan, please let us know how it goes.

Yeah I'm kind of clinging to the positive tests at the moment but I know it still be bad news. Just got keeping everything crossed.
RBundy · 14/06/2021 18:16

@WeCameToDance I did chuckle at the double yolker story Grin

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/06/2021 18:20

@RBundy can you have an earlier scan? It's a huge worry, but some people do bleed and it's fine- my friend was one of them and it wasn't light bleeding. Must be horrible waiting around though for another week

RBundy · 14/06/2021 18:36

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that's reassuring to know that your friend had some bleeding and all was well in the end.
I've thought about an early scan but as we've paid so much money for IVF and haven't been discharged from their care I didn't really want to. I trust the advice from the clinic.
