Back from my second sweep and there is no progress from last week cervix is a little softer but no further on from the 1cm 😂 sweep done and induction booked for 8am Saturday. Went for a long ish walk after (45 mins was all I could manage!) due to pelvic pain and pain from his head being so low! That wasnt very far either just me being very slow!

grace1989x · 27/07/2021 17:31

Hi my baby girl is here. I was due 26/07 but she arrived 19/07 via c section. We had to stay in the hospital 6 days as I had an infection after my waters broke & we are home now.

Congratulations to everyone whose babies arrived & I pray all the babies to come will be here soon and arrive safely 💗

Mummy2O · 27/07/2021 18:23

Congratulations @grace1989x. I hope you are feeling better after your extended stay in hospital.

Sweetpea12 · 27/07/2021 20:10

My wee one has had to go neonatal after problems with drinking his bottles and having lots of mucus. Feel so rubbish on such a high yesterday to this today

Warrickdaviesasplates · 27/07/2021 20:40

Congratulations @grace1989x hope you and baby are doing well.

Good luck @Vie8126 I hope your walk does something for you. Or at the very least you get an easy induction and you get to meet your baby soon.

@Sweetpea12 I'm so sorry to hear your baby boy has had to go to neonatal. At least you know he is being looked after and is in the best place to get any help he needs. Do you have people supporting you? Don't forget you need to be looked after as well.

Mummy2O · 27/07/2021 23:44

@Sweetpea12 I am so sorry to hear that. I hope you are reunited again very soon and can go home. I will be thinking of you both.

Vie8126 · 28/07/2021 05:42

@Sweetpea12 sorry to hear about your little one, I hope he is having a speedy recovery and you are feeling a bit brighter today.

@Warrickdaviesasplates thanks, I'm not so hopeful for anything before Saturday. Hosp called last night to make arrangements so I go in at 4pm sat no DP allowed until established labour. Pcr test Friday before I go in. We've booked brunch for Saturday morning to try to take my mind of the long wait! How are you doing??

Sweetpea12 · 28/07/2021 06:15

My baby now has to move across to another hospital for tests while I’m at this one. So I’ll be doing all I can to get out of hospital so if needs be I can be with him no matter what. Had forceps delivery and both had to be treated for sepsis so that’s added on to the recovery time but I’ll be looking after myself so I can be at my best for him because he needs that. Seems to be some sort of stomach issue he’s having Sad

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/07/2021 07:57

Oh @Sweetpea12 i'm sorry to hear you have been separated from your baby. You sound so strong though, you got this! Star

Warrickdaviesasplates · 28/07/2021 09:24

@Vie8126 booking a brunch is such a good idea, I might steal that one. Especially as I found it tricky to eat much in hospital last time so a decent meal before you go in might be just what you need.

I've been added to our hospitals "post dates" lists, so they should be phoning me between Monday and Wednesday to come in for induction if there's still no baby. I feel like this baby won't be coming on their own so I'm just trying to relax a bit before next week.

I like your hospitals booking in thing, mine just phones you when there's space and says "can you get here within an hour?" I feel like it keeps you quite on edge waiting for the call. I'd prefer a date and time slot personally.

@Sweetpea12 I hope your boy gets all the help he needs and can be reunited with you soon, this must be such a difficult time for you. 💐

Vie8126 · 28/07/2021 09:49

@Warrickdaviesasplates yes we also thought it might take my mind of it and be our last us meal for a while! Been super emotional since midwife yest just had a long day argued with DP then no progressive news from midwife and then induction was just all a little much. My DC (teens) were in awful moods yest also so must have been something in the air!

Oh my goodness I don't like the sound of that at your hospital! You poor thing, I hope they don't leave you too long and you get some news or contractions start soon. Yes I've decided that baby isn't moving so I have today to Friday to get ready and relax. Trying to take it easy and potter around to keep mobile also isn't easy when everything involves huffing and puffing haha.

@Sweetpea12 I hope you and your baby boy are on the mend and reunited soon sending lots of love and hugs xxx

MillyJS · 28/07/2021 11:47

@Vie8126 @Warrickdaviesasplates Another one being scheduled for an induction over here too 🙋‍♀️ I never thought I'd have an august baby but this one's showing no signs of moving of his own accord.

I had a sweep on Monday & found it really painful - the baby's head is low by my cervix is completely posterior so it seems my body's just not ready. I've declined another as it made me feel so awful the next 48 hours & am just accepting my induction fate at some point next week. I just keep telling myself that by the end of next week I should have a baby.

Hope all goes well for you both! Xx

Vie8126 · 28/07/2021 12:02

@MillyJS I don't blame you my cervix is low and soft but it is still by far the most painful thing I've had done (and this is my 4th baby!) I'm not quite sure why I had it yesterday... Blind hope I think! My insides are back to being so tender and sore that I can hardly move today which isn't helpful.

Also didn't think I'd be having an August baby! I have everything crossed for some new for you soon xxx

Mummy2O · 28/07/2021 12:18

@Sweetpea12 I hope you are OK. You must be worried sick. I hope you can be reunited with your baby soon. Sending you lots of love.

MillyJS · 28/07/2021 12:18

@Vie8126 That's exactly how I felt - it's only today I don't feel quite so tender! I'd gone in with the blind assumption of it being 'just like a smear test' LOL.

Best of luck for Saturday - hopefully we'll have our babies soon!

Warrickdaviesasplates · 28/07/2021 13:32

@Vie8126 and @MillyJS looks like we will be in the August baby club together.

I do agree that the way my hospital does it is really annoying, especially as they put you on the call list on day 7 and depending on how busy they are you'll get a call at some point before 15:30 on day 10. You just end up stuck to your house and phone for the days until you get called in.

I had the exact same issue at my sweep, baby is nice and low but my cervix isn't ready. I expect I'll get offered another on Monday at my next appointment but I think I'll decline as I find them so traumatic. I know I'm a big baby about them and I don't know how to over come the fear, but as this will be my last baby I hopefully won't have to deal with one again anyway.

MillyJS · 28/07/2021 14:21

@Warrickdaviesasplates I think my hospital's similar - I'll be induced at 40+12, but they call you on the day to let you know if they have room or not so I'll be waiting from Tuesday for a call. Doesn't help the anxiety at all does it?!

I'm with you on the sweep - I wasn't nervous about it as I'd never had one before but I honestly don't think I'd have another. I found it really quite painful & very invasive (which sounds so obvious but it was really unpleasant despite my midwife being so nice about it). I don't think you finding them traumatic is unreasonable at all! Xx

Vie8126 · 28/07/2021 15:05

@Warrickdaviesasplates I don't blame you with the sweep either the one last week was horrific it made yesterday's even more painful as I knew it was going to hurt. My bottom was literally off the bed and no amount of relax relax or deep breathing was helping. I don't think I have ever had something so painful and leave me in so much discomfort. "go for a walk" it's a struggle as my cervix is so sore from the sweep!

I've been double booked for my induction and they've called me today to say I'm booked in Monday also and I can pick my day I can go Saturday for monitoring and an examination (they'll offer a sweep - erm no thank you!) and leave it until Monday to be induced as 48hrs could make all the difference. I actually just don't know what to do they've left me booked in with both to see how I feel on Saturday. I've gone into labour naturally every time so know it could make the difference but have equally spent the last 12 hrs mentally preparing for Saturday! Like my DP said what happens if they exam me and I'm 3 cm sat but still no contractions as I'm there is it not worth just going with it esp as I'm not keen on another sweep. I can't have hormones so am having the rods dialapan or something. Difficult. Hopefully I won't have to decide and he will just magically appear by then!

@MillyJS @Warrickdaviesasplates I can imagine the anxiety of waiting for the phone call and what happens if your DP is miles away or something?! Mine works sometimes a 2hr+ train journey away (trying to keep it to 1.5hrs atm but it's hard!)

MillyJS · 28/07/2021 16:37

@Vie8126 Ah that's good you've got the choice. I guess it depends on how overdue you are & how you're feeling? I'm a 41 weeks now and just want him out so I'd probably go for Saturday, but if you're feeling ok maybe give yourself a bit more time to hopefully go into labour naturally? When did your other DCs arrive?

Yep the policy is a nightmare - I'm really lucky that my DH is self employed so he's able to drop work and leave straight away without having to worry about paternity leave starting (although the downside is he doesn't actually get official paid paternity leave!). It could mean I'm 42 weeks by the time I'm even induced though which just sounds insane - I didn't know it was possible to be in this much discomfort for so long 🙈

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/07/2021 17:06

I think what a sweep is like is partly down to the midwife. I have had four. One (painless and successful) with dc4, one (PAINFUL and sucessful) with dc5, and two with dc6 - neither hurt but first was so quick i am not surprised it didn't 'work' the second was when i went in for my induction and it did start me with mild contractions

@Vie8126 have they said about breaking your waters if possible without doing the rods etc? I was down for a balloon as also not able to have hormones but i was 3cm so they broke my waters. 10 hours later baby was out.

OP posts:
Vie8126 · 28/07/2021 17:34

@MillyJS I'm not even over or due until Saturday they've just said as long as I go in to be monitored saturday and baby is okay they are happy to leave me until Monday afternoon. Ds1 10 days late, ds2 2 days late dd1 2 days early.... All around the 40 week mark other than Ds1 who was then an absolute whopper and emcs!

That's good! My DP will only get stat paternity which we cannot afford so has limited time off with us.

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE all they have said so far is rods and then break waters but I guess if I go in and by some miracle have progressed further they might make alternative suggestions? Good to know that's an option if I'm already dilated so will ask them that too. Hope you and your little one are well 🥰

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/07/2021 17:41

I know with the balloon its aim is to get you to 3, then it usually falls out. I'm not sure if its the same with the rods? Have you been induced before? I hadn't and was not prepared for being continuously wired up to what felt like half the hospital Sad

OP posts:
Vie8126 · 28/07/2021 17:58

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE never been induced before! It sounds like a drawnout process any things that you absolutely recommend taking? So whatever day I go it's 4pm admission rods in monitoring and no DP until established labour I'm going to get some bottled drinks, some snacks etc.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 28/07/2021 18:49

@Vie8126 take a towel! I forgot one when I was induced and felt so desperate for a bath/shower by day 3 that I dried myself with my T-shirt.

Also books/ kindle/iPad. It can be so long and drawn out and you're just stuck in bed a lot for monitoring so you can get really bored.

Lots of snacks/ food/ drinks.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/07/2021 19:07

I was on the monitors continuously (bar loo breaks) from 10am to just after midnight. It drove me mad. I wasn't in established labour until about 8pm. I kept trying to walk on the spot at side of bed to help things along but the monitors kept moving and setting an alarm off!
