New thread!

@Warrickdaviesasplates when I had mine it was more about safety so how they would get you out in an emergency, and how easy to find the house is, where you want to give birth, if you’ll have a pool etc.

Just to put your mind at ease I found internals and sweeps horrific with my first baby but with my second and others I barely noticed. Once your cervix has opened once it never properly closes and things like that are much easier. Don’t feel like you must have a sweep though, they dont do anything unless you’re ready anyway. I’ve been 2-3 cm dilated since 38 weeks and had three sweeps and still no baby!

Vie8126 · 20/07/2021 18:22

@Foxglovesandlilacs86 were your braxton hicks more uncomfortable in your cervix after your sweeps?

HumunaHey · 20/07/2021 20:00

@Warrickdaviesasplates Great that a home a birth is still on the cards! When I was considering, I browsed old threads on MN about it like the one below.
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/3560384-what-will-i-be-asked-at-my-home-birth-risk-assessment

@pinkroseuk My home visit wasn't much but they did ask to look at DCs night time sleeping arrangement. I think it's because he was born in a heatwave and I mentioned how I was very worried at night time as it was so hot. Couldn't swaddle him to make him cosy and feel safe like in the womb. Looks like my DC2 will be born in a heatwave too if he makes an appearance this week (wishful thinking).

I am melting in this heat and am so fed up with the huge sweaty weight I am carrying around Angry.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 20/07/2021 20:18

Thank you @HumunaHey I'll have a read through that thread in a bit, should be exactly what I'm after.

@Foxglovesandlilacs my bad experience was with DC2, although there's 6 and a half years between my first two so maybe this one will work better with only two years between pregnancy's this time. I just got so faint and shakey and was sick, the babies heart rate went crazy and I had to go to hospital for monitoring. Absolute nightmare. It did start off labour last time but it stopped and started a lot and I had to be induced anyway.

I might just try and brave it out and just hope I make it through a bit better this time. I'm obviously a bit more of a drama queen than I realised. Haha.

That sounds awful I’m not surprised you don’t want one. Fingers crossed it goes well this time if you decide to try it x
tobeornottobe1 · 20/07/2021 20:38

Baby girl arrived Friday evening 12 hours after a good stretch and sweep! Fingers crossed for all you ladies that have had a stretch an sweep. I seem to have developed a lot of swelling in my legs after birth, I can't seem to shift it but I've not been elevating as much as I have other children to see to, it does seem to be getting worse though, has anyone else experience this? X

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 20/07/2021 21:55
@Foxglovesandlilacs86 were your braxton hicks more uncomfortable in your cervix after your sweeps?
Yes definitely! And just more uncomfortable in general tbh. They seem stronger but they’re not building up to anything regular.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/07/2021 22:18

Congrats @tobeornottobe1!

I had swelling after the birth this time around (i put it down to being stuck on the bed for best part of 24 hours) never had it before, it took a good few days to go down

OP posts:
tobeornottobe1 · 20/07/2021 23:20

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE thank you, I'm hoping it'll go away soon too, my legs feel like weights. How are you getting on with bubs? X

Pinkroseuk · 21/07/2021 07:15

Thanks @HumunaHey - although next week looks cooler it's still going to be pretty hot so that makes sense.

Congratulations @tobeornottobe1
Could the hot weather be effecting your legs too? (I know my ankles get more puffy in this weather) :)

Vie8126 · 21/07/2021 09:14

@Foxglovesandlilacs86 yes mine were pretty strong yest but my cervix felt so incredibly sore! Had some brown spotting and discharge but no 'bloody show' slept uncomfortable but think that's the heat and the weird dreams around giving birth!! How you feeling today?

Mummy2O · 21/07/2021 11:17

@tobeornottobe1 I am exactly the same. I have really swollen ankles. They seem to be going down slowly now a week on, but it is really slowly. I don't think this weather is helping.

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 21/07/2021 12:21

@Vie8126 I’m not too bad, I wanted to avoid induction but now it’s so close I’m glad I’ve got the end in sight. I don’t think I could cope with the idea of a possible two more weeks 😱 I’m struggling to walk! He’s estimated to be 9lb 7 at term (tomorrow) so that’s probably why. How are you feeling? When your due date? X

Vie8126 · 21/07/2021 13:01

@Foxglovesandlilacs86 when is your induction? I've had a 9lb 7er before. This one was measuring 38 weeks at 35 and my 35 week growth scan said around 6lb 11 and on target for a similar birth weight but yest he has slowed down still 38 weeks as am I midwife said around 8lb something at delivery but to remember it's always an estimate. My 9lb 7er was estimated to be 6lb haha. I'm struggling with walking I have this muscular ache under my bump where its so heavy and the pain in my pelvic bone from his head! I feel you. I'm being induced a week sat on my due date. The end is in sight but the heat etc is making these last few days an absolute killer isn't it. Do you have any more sweeps lined up?

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 21/07/2021 13:16

@Vie8126 no more sweeps, I’ve had three now! My midwife is lovely and I feel like if I’d really wanted another one she might have done another one today if I asked but I got the feeling she didn’t think it was worth doing anymore. My cervix is favourable and it will be easy to break my waters, so it could still be a nice birth. I just really dont want the drip, I had it last time and i found it so much more painful! What number baby is this for you?

I think my last growth scan was at 36 weeks and he was about 7 and a half pound. I’ve had a 9 pound baby before but no bigger. I’ve been told to ring labour ward in the morning but that they’re busy atm so it’s more likely to be Friday x

Vie8126 · 21/07/2021 14:21

@Foxglovesandlilacs86 oh my goodness well after 3 you've given it a good shot!! I have to have the rods for induction so hormones so they'll use them to dilate my cervix then break my waters on my due date as I've had a previous section. Sounds very promising though for you with a favourable cervix I'm positive things will start for you ASAP and if not once your waters have gone boom you'll have bubs here 😘😘

CoffeeAndCaramel · 21/07/2021 18:27

I'm finding it really Comforting reading all of your updates of lots of you being in the same position. I'm due today and saw the consultant. Booked in for induction on 27th but will be in every day for monitoring before then. I was adamant I wouldn't have a sweep but I am going to give it a go tommorrow in the hope I avoid the induction! This is baby number 3 and his head has been wedged into my pelvis for weeks, I'm so uncomfortable and so shocked he isn't bloody here! Sending everyone positive vibes, this is an emotional rollarcoaster at the end isn't it! X

Vie8126 · 21/07/2021 18:42

@Coffeeandcaramel good luck with the sweep tomorrow let us know how you get on. Its really frustrating isn't it. This is my 4th and thought after my sweep he would ping out hahahahaha I should know better than to assume anything with pregnancy and birth! The good thing with daily monitoring is they can see how you are progressing and maybe offer a second sweep if needed.

MillyJS · 21/07/2021 18:52

I was due early this week but won't be booked in for an induction until w/c 2nd august! It must vary by area but mine don't induce until 12 days 'overdue'. I don't even want to think about still being pregnant by then! I'm getting more stretch marks and more uncomfortable every day 🙈

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 21/07/2021 20:16

@Vie8126 thankyou, I hope so! I hope yours goes well too keep us updated.

@CoffeeAndCaramel good luck for your sweep! Hopefully it gets things moving.

@MillyJS I’m being induced on due date due to his size, otherwise it’s 12 days over here too. I was two weeks overdue with three of my others so I know what it’s like going past your due date, it really does drag! X

CoffeeAndCaramel · 21/07/2021 21:17

@Foxglovesandlilacs86 thanks lovely! I really hope so!
@Vie8126 Thankyou! Oh my
God tell me about it, you just presume
Babies will follow suit but then this one throws a spanner in the works! I've never gone to due date!
@MillyJS I think it's also 12 days here, I'm only having the next available due to diabetes!

Currently bouncing on my ball hoping for the best 🤣🤣

Vie8126 · 22/07/2021 08:59

@Foxglovesandlilacs86 sending you luck for today and your induction tomorrow. Fingers crossed you won't need it and things happen today!!

@MillyJS its 12 days here too I'm on due date due to my age 🙄

@Coffeeandcaramel I know it's so rude of them not to follow the same pattern as their siblings 😂 I'm just counting down to induction now... 9 days to go. I've booked a pregnancy massage for 29th July (2 days after my next sweep) that is how convinced I am that I will be going to term.

Bunny2021 · 22/07/2021 09:16

I’m booked in for induction next Tuesday (day before my due date) but also have a sweep booked for today. Slightly nervous as though I want our baby to make an appearance I don’t feel ready!

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 22/07/2021 10:44

So rang labour ward today but they are really busy so said to ring back at 6pm. So could be tonight but more likely to be tomorrow morning. I’ve had a bloody show ( had bloody shows after all three sweeps but this one is a random one lol) and been having really strong braxton hicks since yesterday, so maybe it will happen on its own today or tonight? Who knows!? Xx

Mummy2O · 22/07/2021 11:03

@foxglovesandlilacs86 Keeping everything crossed for you.
