New thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Anyone else had where the midwife couldn’t sweep? I was told today my cervix is very high up but she will try again next week. If still no baby by then I’m booked in for an induction on the 29th which now feels like a lifetime away Hmm baby is just having the best time in there it seems

MillyJS · 19/07/2021 18:06

@Sweetpea12 Yep the same happened to me today! So disheartening isn't it?

Mine's going to try again on Monday & then book an induction in if I don't go into labour that week. I'll be looking at early august though as apparently there's a 'long waiting list'?! Doesn't fill me with confidence at all.

Fingers' crossed they decide to come earlier!

Sweetpea12 · 19/07/2021 18:15

I was hoping she could do it and might have started labour but no joy. And baby is lying back to back which so far was the only position he hadn’t tried lol. The midwife told me if I go in to be induced and an emergency comes in it won’t happen that day so now wishing my labour will start on its own. Have you had any signs at all that you might go into labour yourself? My baby isn’t even engaged Hmm

MillyJS · 19/07/2021 18:40

@Sweetpea12 Oh no hopefully he does a little spin lol. No signs of labour at all, what about you? Mine's head has been engaged to some degree since something like 32 weeks so god knows what he's hanging around for!

Is this your first baby? Induction terrifies me as you always hear about them taking something like 4 days with first babies which does not sound fun. Imagine I'll update the thread in mid august to announce I've given birth to a toddler 😂

Sweetpea12 · 19/07/2021 19:07

I’m the same no signs at all and my baby’s head has been on the brink now for 3 weeks he’s just not interested in leaving 😂 yes first baby and that worries me too maybe being induced and it being a very long process. I never once considered my baby wouldn’t be here in July and would possibly be august it’s crazy!

MillyJS · 19/07/2021 19:10

I know same here 🙈 I've got my fingers' crossed for both of us!

Vie8126 · 19/07/2021 19:17

@Sweetpea12 and @millyJS I have my sweep tomorrow and am prepared to be told the same tbh 4th baby here and been having lots of braxton hicks just can't see if happening anytime soon!! I'm in that okay so this is my life forever stage despite having an induction booked on due date of 31st July. Fingers crossed something happens for you both soon. My not so little one has had his head engaged since 35 weeks so to say I'm uncomfortable us an understatement!!! Good luck ladies.

Congrats to the new mummy's 😊 xxx

HumunaHey · 19/07/2021 19:48

FWIW I never had any signs in the lead up to labour at all with my first. Was just walking around the park and my waters started slowly leaking and it went from there. Never had loss of mucus plug, baby's head never engaged until labour actually begun. Nothing. My waters went at just before 39weeks and everyone said first babies tend to go overdue so wasn't expecting it all.

Does anyone's stomach go a funny shape when they are having braxton hicks? I keep having these stomach tightening episodes where my belly will take odd shapes. One time it was as though baby had gone transverse (two bumps each side of my stomach).

Vie8126 · 19/07/2021 20:51

@HumunaHey yes mine does!!!! I'm getting some seriously strong pressure with them too they actually take my breath away at times. Hate it when I get them and I'm driving!!!

Actually thinking about it I never had anything before hand with my middle and last one just contractions started. My waters have never gone and always needed to be broken around 7cms never really had a show until in advanced labour either. The contractions have woken me up tho every time so maybe I just need to sleep to start it off!

MillyJS · 19/07/2021 21:03

Thanks both, that's reassuring to hear 😊 Lol
I'm also at the 'this is my life forever now' stage.

Good luck with your sweep @Vie8126 , hope it gets things moving for you x

HumunaHey · 19/07/2021 23:02

@Vie8126 Same here with taking my breath away. Mine are usually happening in the evening or middle of the night. It's not been fun waking up feeling winded along with the heatwave. Takes me ages to get back to sleep.

I so can't wait until this baby is out!

Fartymcfart · 19/07/2021 23:21

Really feel for everyone still waiting, I went overdue with all off my other children and its the most frustrating feeling ever.

I'm recovering from the CS quite well and up and about slowly making sure I don't over do it.
Little one is still nameless but such a contented little baby. His siblings are absolutely in love with him and he's getting loads of hugs and kisses.

Congratulations to all that have had their babies recently and good luck to those still to pop.

Kg87 · 20/07/2021 07:37

@HumunaHey @Vie8126 the braxton hicks take my breath away too! My bump also goes really wonky and positions itself to the right when I have one. Sometimes I’ll be feeling breathless and winded and look down and realise I’m having braxton hicks 😂 just wish they were the real thing now!

Vie8126 · 20/07/2021 07:46

Yes @KG87 I have that with the BH wonky belly can see his bum and back and lopsided lol my DP is like ooh your stomach is looking weird. Sometimes I can't even talk through them and just need everyone to shut up lol. Hoping for good news this afternoon so thanks for those wishing well with the sweep will be back later to update you all. Prepping like today is my last non baby day although we all know I'm likely to still be here waiting next week 😂.

Kg87 · 20/07/2021 08:03

@Vie8126 yes same here haha, I’ve got so many funny photos of my wonky bump, it’s like the left side is almost completely empty and the right side is rock solid. Ahh good luck for your sweep later, I have my second sweep today as well, I’m going to book my induction too as I’m 41 weeks today and can’t take much more 😂

HumunaHey · 20/07/2021 08:32

@kg87 I'm definitely with you on wishing they were the real thing. I feel a bit guilty about my impatience though as I'm not actually due until 24th, but my 1st one came before DD so set high expectations.

You'd think LO was breakdancing in there with some of the shapes my belly has taken. I don't remember having that with my first. Glad it's not just me. I was finding it a little strange!

@vie8126 Good luck with the sweep today!

Vie8126 · 20/07/2021 08:43

@Kg87 good luck with your sweep!!!

@HumunaHey thanks, I'm impatient like you as not due until 31st July but I am just over it now!

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 20/07/2021 09:14

Good luck everyone who has sweeps. I had another yesterday but doesn’t feel like it’s done much. I’ve been having strong braxton hicks and losing my mucus plug for weeks so just more of the same really! I’m being induced Thursday which is my due date so not long to wait really. I wish it wasn't so hot 🥵

Warrickdaviesasplates · 20/07/2021 14:19

Managed to get to my midwife appointment this morning, thanks to my parents watching the kids as DDs school have decided not to have any of her year group back after this isolation. 🙄

My midwife said it's not too late to have a home birth assessment and as long as I am still pregnant on Thursday she will come over and do the assessment then.

Knowing that I have the option of a home birth should I want it is making me feel much more in control.

I also talked to her about my sweep worries and although I'm booked in for one on Monday she said I can just come to the appointment and decide last minute if I feel able to do it or not. I really thought I'd be braver about it but the closer it gets the more anxious I feel as I had such a bad experience last time.

Has anybody here had a home birth assessment? I don't actually know what it involves (I do know I'd better tidy up first though!)

Congratulations to all the new babies being born! I feel like every time I look at this thread there's more babies! We still don't have a boys name for ours yet so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for a girl so I can stop thinking about baby names. Haha.

Vie8126 · 20/07/2021 14:41

@Warrickdaviesasplates great news you can still have a home birth!!

I've just got back from midwife and my sweep. Cervix still a little long but starting to efface, 1cm dialated and managed to perform stretch and sweep, she could feel his head so still very much engaged! All very uneventful lol not quite sure what I expected to be honest. Home now and booked for another one next week. Seems he isn't quite ready to join us just yet so have to see what happens.

It's a zillion degrees today isn't it, how are we all getting on?

MillyJS · 20/07/2021 15:08

@Warrickdaviesasplates I'm registered for a home birth - my assessment was really informal. The midwife went through all the risks to make sure I was aware of them (potential transfer to hospital etc) & just asked a few basic questions about things like tap access to water for the birth pool. I did also have to do some sort of breathalyser test (can't think of another way to describe it 😂) to make sure the boiler didn't have any problems.

Nothing to worry about - all I did was a quick tidy up! Best of luck with yours, I'm sure it'll be fine. This is my first baby so I'm going into it with a very open mind that on the day I might change my mind & head to the MLU - but atleast I've got the option of being at home.

@Vie8126 It's so hot isn't it?! Permanently sat infront of a fan over here 😂 How are you getting on?

Pinkroseuk · 20/07/2021 15:34

@Vie8126 way too hot for me!
Sat in the coolest room with the fan on but struggling to sleep at night.

Would love to have baby this week to avoid the sweep and induction but so far no signs at all!
My mum popped over earlier to do some dusting - she says when the healthcare worker comes they will check things like washing liquid is out of reach and dusting has been done?! I have to say this wasn't on my mind for sorting yet- do they really check this?!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/07/2021 15:56

6 babies and no one ever checked my house for dust 🤣

OP posts:
Warrickdaviesasplates · 20/07/2021 16:00

@Pinkroseuk I've never had that sort of thing checked. In fact they've never even left the living room or looked around the room properly.

I guess if you lived like a hoarder and the house was clearly dangerous they'd probably say something but no one cared when my living room was covered in half wrapped presents (DD1) or when I had piles of clean washing everywhere (which DS projectile vomited all over)

@MillyJS thank you that's really helpful. I might end up chickening out as soon as labour starts and insist on going into the MLU but having the option of staying home (and not having to sort childcare just to be sent back home or something) might keep me calmer and keep things moving a long a bit.

Pinkroseuk · 20/07/2021 16:14

Thanks @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE and @Warrickdaviesasplates I didn't think they would but wanted to check! Not sure how my mum thinks a newborn might reach the washing up liquid at the back of the worktop either!
