Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

OP posts:

@bunhead34 Can’t help I’m afraid but I am also wondering when I can finally get my hair cut. I think it’s been 14 months, and oh my goodness - I look a state! Around November time, I thought it would be a great idea to leave it until nearer my due date - what a massive mistake that was 😂

Rutennotou · 16/03/2021 14:50

I'm just shy of 35 weeks now and I'm pretty sure some of my mucus plug came away this morning. Funnily enough I've been having mild cramps on and off the past few days so feeling a bit on edge. I know it can regenerate so just wait and see for now 🙃

bunhead34 · 16/03/2021 14:53

@clb8921 I wish I had known this lockdown was coming! I would
Have had so much done - eyelashes, lovely pregnancy massage....

I feel I look like crap already and know I will feel so much worse after birth, with body
Changes and everything. I know that having nice hair would just help that little
Bit! Can't wait for my dads wife to comment on my Grey Roots 🙄

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 16/03/2021 14:58

@bunhead34 to answer your question, it's 100% your choice. From my personal experience, I think it's ambitious. At that age I wasn't comfortable leaving baby for more than an hour or so as she was feeding so regularly and I would be uncomfortably full. it's not recommended to pump before 6 weeks (from memory) unless special circumstances; baby in NICU etc. I pumped from day 5 following my HV suggesting it, saying what a lovely supply I had, and promptly suffered with oversupply! Apparently nipple confusion can also occur by using bottles early. I wasn't told that but I'm not sure it had an effect on our feeding; I combi fed - bottle fed expressed milk and breastfed until around 9 months. That said, it really is your decision. We attended my best friends wedding a month after baby was born, only stayed 90 mins and I took (but didn't use) a manual pump, leaving baby with my mum and a bottle of expressed milk. I'm resigning myself to having split ends for the foreseeable! Could you have a home appointment instead? Or book the day they open? Guaranteed you won't be amazingly comfortable being so heavily pregnant but many first time babies arrive late, and only 5% on due date so you could get an appointment in before his/her arrival if you're lucky?!

flappityflippers1 · 16/03/2021 14:58

Hi all,

I’ve been logged out a few days and forgot my password!

My section has been booked in for Monday - they were doing it Saturday but a “proper” appointment came up for Monday afternoon, so he will be here then!!!!

So excited!

Hope everyone is doing well?

I’m 36+whatever and been having mild contractions - they last an hour or 2, 8-10 mins apart then fade off. Also been losing some of my plug. I wanted to express and harvest colostrum before I had him but midwife has said absolutely no expressing and she’s sorted that he can have donor milk if it takes me a bit to feed him. She’s worried it’ll trigger full labour 🙈

We’re all so close now, with my first I went to 40+4 and I remember those last weeks feeling like a lifetime but no time at all!

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 16/03/2021 15:06

So exciting @flappityflippers1! Hope you're feeling as well as can be expected.

I couldn't express pre-birth either but the midwives helped me to as soon as she was born and transferred to NICU. Do ask for help from them if you need it.

bunhead34 · 16/03/2021 15:08

@TheViewOutsideMyWindow thanks for that. Maybe I will book an appointment a bit later then.
I'd be worried about the quality of any salon that had availability on the 12th of April now - everywhere seems fully booked at least until beginning of may!

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 16/03/2021 15:10

@bunhead34 very true, and I hadn't thought of that. Just tried my usual place and they've only got availability for 1st August Shock You could make the apt and see how you go? I'm sure someone will snap it up if you end up cancelling.

flappityflippers1 · 16/03/2021 15:12

@TheViewOutsideMyWindow feeling as good as I can and as prepared as possible - our hospital are brilliant at supporting all types of feeding and already reassured me they will be there to offer all the help and support - just so looking forward to having him snuggled on my chest and sniffing his little head ❤️❤️❤️

@bunhead34 yes I think I’d avoid a salon who still had availability now! I cannot wait to get my hair done properly. I’ll be booking in as soon as I’m recovered from section!

@flappityflippers1 good luck, how exciting! Will they get you in for the C-section sooner if your contractions keep coming?

I left my DD at 6 weeks old last time but I was FF her so completely different I understand! Maybe just see how you feel when you're recovered? I would love my hair done too, although it's not important in the grand scheme of things I know!

flappityflippers1 · 16/03/2021 17:47

@BaaHumbugg they’ll only get me in sooner if I went properly into labour - as it’s easing off and only happening every few days I think I’ll be ok (famous last words eh!) I’m having the steroid injections tomorrow and Thursday

BaaHumbugg · 17/03/2021 07:16

Good luck!

LuckygoLucy · 17/03/2021 11:25

Hello ladies, jumping in on this thread as I need people in same boat in my life lol. Im currently either 35 or 36 weeks, no one can seem to decide! Having growth scans every 2 weeks. I'm currently booked in for c section on 12th April which could be anything from 39+3 to 40+ which is scary as really don't want to go into labour and have a emcs. Will maybe change after next growth scan so just a wait and see atm.

So yeah Hi everyone lol xx

drumst1ck · 17/03/2021 14:43

@LuckygoLucy hi! Sounds really confusing!! Is it your first baby? If it is, I think there's a high chance of going 'overdue' so you might be okay. I hope the next growth scan goes well for you!

LuckygoLucy · 17/03/2021 14:51

Hi @drumst1ck it's my 3rd one 1st was emcs at 40+6 fetal distress. Unfortunately I caught nec fas so lots of scarring. 2nd was elcs at 38+? And was great. This one has just been a pain since conception lol. I feel if they are putting me on growth scans now because fear of small then they could have screwed up dating, esp since its only a week, at last one sonographer thought I was ahead of where 'I should be' but then I measured back to super small with fundal measure by mw. It's all a bit of a clusterf* lol

bunhead34 · 17/03/2021 16:32

Has anyone else had period like cramps? I've been getting them today quite strongly
Here and there - is it the start?!
I'm 36 weeks.

Mumto3andexpectingagain · 17/03/2021 16:46

@bunhead34 I had them all day yesterday from 4am! I was 35+4 at that point but called midwives and they said to go in to rule out early labour as i have GDM but it turned out to be 'my body preparing for labour'. I feel silly now but at the time I was convinced it was labour as all my previous 3 labours started like this

MinnieWebs · 17/03/2021 16:52

I’ve also started having period like cramps on and off.

I’m 37 weeks today and had my midwife appointment to go through birth plan. Most of it I had researched/heard from other people. The one thing I’m not sure of is the injection to speed up the placenta coming out.
Does anyone have any advice/experience on whether natural is better or to go for the injection?

Catlady21 · 17/03/2021 17:31

I've always had the injection. I've never thought to go natural. I've never researched the pros and cons either. I've had the injection twice now and had no concerns or complications.

Catlady21 · 17/03/2021 17:33

@Mumto3andexpectingagain, it seems there's a few of us on here with GD.

Mumto3andexpectingagain · 17/03/2021 17:51

I've had the placenta injection for my last 3, never thought of not having it as I would rather have held my baby than had to wait out more time to deliver the placenta but I've never looked into it, just taken their word for it

MinnieWebs · 17/03/2021 18:18

I was leaning towards having the injection to get it over with and the midwife promoted that option.
Thank you 🙂

SunnySideUp2020 · 17/03/2021 18:44

I have decided to have the injection in my birth plan today.
Don't want to be waiting around or risking anything

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 17/03/2021 19:04

I had the injection too, I did some research at the time but honestly can't recall what swayed me to have it.

34 wks and today had what I was told was a consultant apt to book in my c section date. I was so looking forward to having a date, this pregnancy has been horrific; hypermesis gravidarum, migraines and now pelvic girdle pain. I woke this morning so positive to know the end was in sight! Well, turns out it wasn't. They told me they'll give me a date nearer the time, around 38 wks, and it'll be somewhere in my 39th week. I'm just so gutted. I really wanted to have something to work towards and give me a boost to know how long I have left of being in constant pain! My first baby arrived by spontaneous vaginal delivery at 39wks so I'm really concerned that baby 2 could arrive before 39 weeks but there was absolutely no movement on getting an earlier section date. Has anyone else had this sort of experience? I had a pretty poor consultation tbh, it wasn't my named consultant (who I've met once and was really good) and this one kept trying to persuade me to change my birth plan. As someone who suffered severe trauma following my first birth I felt this was totally uncalled for. I left close to tears. Seriously considering changing hospitals or even going privately as I have health insurance through work. I've no idea if I've left it too late though. Can anyone relate?
