Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

OP posts:

A few cramps here but I had them for weeks with my first before it started properly!

I'm having the injection this time around as I have been anaemic and they recommend it to help with blood loss after birth. The NHS does a good little guide on birthing the placenta. As with everything, it's completely your choice if you want to have it naturally. From what I remember, there's no harm in that (apart from a few medical things such as anaemia where it's more recommended) it just might take a lot longer than with the injection. Side effects of having the injection can be some nausea and vomiting in some people but I never had that with mine.

drumst1ck · 17/03/2021 19:28

@TheViewOutsideMyWindow sorry to hear about the appointment! If you are unhappy with that consultant then you are always allowed to ask for a different one/not to see that one again! Best person to contact would probably be the head of midwifery if you wanted to do that. Any staff should be able to give you contact details and you might even be able to find them online. You've definitely not left it too late for anything you decide though!

BaaHumbugg · 17/03/2021 19:34

@theviewoutsidemywindow sorry you are having such a hard time, I agree it would be nice to have an end in sight, especially after a previous traumatic birth. I am under consultant care this time too and they have been really good to be honest, but I'm not expecting to have a C-section or anything.

I had some cramps the other night and it made me think oh crap as I'm only 35 weeks almost. I think it was just dodgy takeaway in my case!

Flappityflippers1 · 17/03/2021 19:37

@TheViewOutsideMyWindow I’m sorry to hear you had a horrible appointment 😔 I got my original section date for 39 weeks booked in by my midwife - perhaps give your MW a call and highlight your anxiety and that you want a date booked now.

rainbow95 · 18/03/2021 10:14

What snacks/drinks is everyone taking in their hospital bag?

Mumto3andexpectingagain · 18/03/2021 10:50

I havent even thought about putting snacks in!!! I remember taking loads of bits with my first but didnt eat anything hardly as I felt nauseous and my mind was on more obvious things (the human crawling down me). With GDM this time tho I'm not sure what I could take. Maybe some snack packs of nuts or some quorn bites (I'm vegetarian) for protein

1sttimemumtobe2021 · 18/03/2021 11:39

My snacks are mostly for my partner tbh! I've got some cereal bars, noodles (so he can just use the kettle for a decent ish meal depending on how long he is there), crisps, chocolate and some sweets. The sweets and cereal bars are for me to get some energy.

I had a 36 week appointment with the midwife yesterday. The baby hasn't grown at all since I last went so I've been booked in for a scan. They made me panic a bit to be honest as it sounded concerning but my scan isn't until Saturday! Trying not to worry too much but I wish it was sooner! Has anyone else experienced this for stalled growth?

My scan is the day before I will be 37 weeks so I suppose if there is a big concern, I will at least be full term.

The same has happened to me, I’m currently 36+3, and had my appointment with the Homebirth Midwives on Tuesday. My FH was measured to be 33.5cm and they couldn’t ascertain his position (so no change from my last appointment a fortnight ago), so I’ve been booked for a growth scan tomorrow. I was initially very concerned, but have since felt more assured by the number of people sharing similar experiences with me, and all were absolutely fine! :)
1sttimemumtobe2021 · 18/03/2021 12:07

Thanks for the reply @MariaFidelis. Hope all goes well tomorrow! Let me know how it goes. I've been feeling movements and his heartbeat has been checked so that's something. I think sometimes the way that the community midwives tell you the information, doesn't help, as you see the phone call happening for an emergency scan and can think nothing else but to be concerned!

MariaFidelis · 18/03/2021 12:14

Thank you so much @1sttimemumtobe2021, I really hope yours goes well too! :) as you say, they have to take every precaution, and what can be regarded as potentially concerning, on a positive note, gives us another chance to see our babies!

drumst1ck · 18/03/2021 12:43

@1sttimemumtobe2021 I hope your scan goes well tomorrow! The fundal measurement they use to monitor growth is often quite inaccurate and relies on it being the same person doing the measurement every week and other things that can change the data, so definitely try not to worry too much! And if they do have any concerns, you're right that at 37 weeks baby should be absolutely fine to come out if it's in a hurry Smile

BaaHumbugg · 18/03/2021 12:59

The same happened with my first and she was fine, I think they are just being cautious so try not to worry! I have had loads of extra scans this time too but it gives me an excuse to leave the house I guess!

SunnySideUp2020 · 18/03/2021 13:45

Also heard fundal height is not very accurate that's why they send for growth scan.
I wouldn't worry too much just now.
Heard lots of stories where these measurements were totally unreliable!!

1sttimemumtobe2021 · 18/03/2021 16:17

Thanks all! I suppose a tape measure can only be so accurate when there are so many variables!

Is anyone getting a lot of pressure down below? I had lightning crotch before which was short sharp stings. Now when I stand up it's like ongoing pressure! I know that baby's head is engaged - 4/5ths I think they said. They said that this gives no indication of when he will arrive!

I also had period cramps and back ache keeping me up last night. I think some of that may have been the stress of yesterday after finding out I'd been referred for the scan as I am a worrier! But there are a lot of signs there now!

Mumto3andexpectingagain · 18/03/2021 18:19

@1sttimemumtobe2021 how far gone are you?

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 18/03/2021 19:02

Lots of pressure here too, and also getting the fanny daggers! Second baby but only 34/5wks so still some way to go I think.

I had a growth scan last week and my trust get you booked in within 24h if they're worried, so I wouldn't think your scan is an emergency @1sttimemumtobe2021, try not to worry. Period cramps and backache can be a positive sign things are progressing as they should, all getting body ready for baby!

drumst1ck · 18/03/2021 19:40

37 weeks on Sunday for me and also getting some cramping and back pain! I had cramping with my first for weeks before she arrived so really hoping it's not as long this time Shock

1sttimemumtobe2021 · 18/03/2021 20:01

@Mumto3andexpectingagain , will be 37 weeks on Sunday.

Flyingfrogspawn · 18/03/2021 21:17

Good luck to those having growth scans in the next few days. I've got one tomorrow too.

Had my midwife appointment today and babies heart rate was between 179 and 198 and wasnt coming down. So I've spent the afternoon in pau. They said they had no idea what caused it but it has come down now. Can't wait for baba to be here! Hopefully be less stressful.

Agii · 18/03/2021 21:32

Hello!
Yes, I am due in April too, 21st to be exact.
How am I feeling? As this is my second pregnancy, it feels so long and tiring! Restless legs are getting worse as I have 5 weeks left and miss having a meal without feeling like a stuffed teddy bear. Sleep is almost scarce unlike last pregnancy when I slept like a log! But overall I'm proud I have got through it and might actually be better prepared to survive the sleep deprivation with newborn :)
Anyone else gets restless legs? Do you f

BaaHumbugg · 19/03/2021 11:43

Hi @agii I did in my last pregnancy too but this pregnancy I've been ok with the legs. I hope this time is easier as we know what to expect but that's probably wishful thinking!

sylbunny · 19/03/2021 19:42

@Agii I'm the same. Horrendous restless legs and I wake up a few times in the night and I'm completely unable to get back to sleep for ages. Then I'm exhausted in the day! I finish work at Easter and I can't wait!

sylbunny · 19/03/2021 19:47

@rainbow95 I'm taking jelly babies and lucazade (sport not fizzy) for labour. That's all I wanted last time in labour and if you have an epidural you'll be no food so they actually recommended lucazade sport for energy.

I've then got some nuts, tracker bars and tuc biscuits for after labour. I was starving once I went on the ward last time and as it was the middle of the night I couldn't get any food. Hopefully I won't need it but I'd rather have it just in case!

I'm also going to make sure I have lucazade, bananas and nuts at home for early labour.

How come you can't eat with an epidural @sylbunny
