@Kj1010 definitely! Yes same, I did lots this morning so now I can cuddle up with the baby this afternoon.. he's so unsettled the last two days, it's exhausting!! So I'm just going to put a film on and not worry for the rest of the day. Make sure you do xx

Jwl45 · 23/12/2020 14:45

@Lc86 I currently have mastitis. Started last night on the boob I'm Not feeding from. Gutted as for the last week and half, it's been leaking really well.... Yesterday no leaks (so I assume it's drying) and last night the shakes and freezing...and then
then sweats in middle of night. Typical just before Xmas day.
Has yours cleared up? Any tips? To top it all I have a trapped nerve or have twisted my side on the other side to mastitis boob.... The pain there is horrendous.

lc86 · 23/12/2020 14:50

@Jwl45 mine started last Thursday and only yesterday do they feel normal again. Luckily I'm not breastfeeding so didn't have to have baby latching on on top of the pain. Make sure you get antibiotics, I have a weeks course. Wear the tightest bra you can, that is the only way I found any comfort. Also, I know it hurts but let the shower water run on them as feels so much better after. Try and massage the area and put hot flannels on them. I really feel for you! Horrible feeling xx

lc86 · 23/12/2020 14:52

@Jwl45 just read that it's from the boob you're not feeding from, that's good as can't imagine having to feed when pain is like that xx

NaomiB79 · 23/12/2020 14:56

Hope all the new mummies are doing okay and the mummies to be are hanging in there. I saw the doctor today because for the past few weeks I've been really struggling and feeling like I can't cope. She did an assessment with me and has diagnosed moderate PND. My emotions are all over the place having wanted a baby my whole life and finally having a miracle baby at 41, to be feeling like this now she is here is devastating. The doctor said there is a correlation between PND and babies with colic and it is probably situational and as the situation improves so should my mood. I feel much better having finally admitted that I am struggling and asking for help. If anyone else is really struggling I would suggest a chat with your GP or HV and try and get the support you need xx

Jwl45 · 23/12/2020 15:02

@lc86 thank you. Yes I'm picking up some antibiotics This afternoon. I've put a cold flannel on it after trying to hand express. That's a complete nightmare as not much is coming out... But it's knowing when to stop too as o don't want to encourage more milk. 🤔 Still feeling a little achy... Hot and cold and my head hurts ... But my paracetamol intake is almost at its limit so I'm trying to hold out xx

Jwl45 · 23/12/2020 15:05

@naomiB79 so sorry to hear you are feeling like this. It's a big thing to go and get help and not always easy so feel proud that you have gone to talk to someone about how you're feeling. This group is also great for a rant and to share experiences... Helps to know you're not alone. Hopefully the colic will improve and this will have a positive effect on you also. Sending hugs 🤗🤗 xx

lc86 · 23/12/2020 15:22

@Jwl45 yes tbh I didn't express anything as I didn't want to encourage milk, I know they say to do that though and it's meant to help. However you find relief just do it! xx

lc86 · 23/12/2020 15:25

@NaomiB79 well done for getting help! Colic is the worst thing, I pray every night this little man doesn't get it, my first dd had it and it's the only thing I'm anxious about this time. I really hope your little one settles soon and you start to feel better in yourself. How you're feeling is completely normal, just keep talking and accepting offers of help xx

Anotherboy · 23/12/2020 15:27

Very late to the party also, but been following! My little guy was born 18th November after a super fast labour. I was planning a home birth but the contractions came on so fast and I hadn't felt him move during, so they said to come in. I think the taxi driver thought I was going to give birth in the taxi! Thank goodness I did go in, had a post partum haemorrhage and lost a lot of blood. I was alone the entire time as OH looked after our 4 year old, but the midwives were amazing.
@naomiB79 your post inspired me to post - I unfortunately have PND too. This is my second baby and I had it bad with the first, so was a little more prepared this time, although I still didn't want to admit to it at first. PND doesn't always follow a difficult baby - this guy is a dream yet I still ended up unwell. Brain chemistry has a lot to answer for. Meds are slowly helping and I'm trying to be as mindful as I can instead of anxiously predicting that everything is about to go wrong and I won't be able to cope! It's good to know I'm not alone, although I wouldn't wish this on anyone x

Jwl45 · 23/12/2020 15:58

@lc86 I haven't expressed until now as the flow did it's own thing. I hoped it would dry on its own. I thought it had actually yesterday.
Did you get the flu like feelings too?
Last time I had a little of this on my right... I fed thru it, it was gone next day....I'm hoping I'll feel better tomorrow... Don't want to be I'll Xmas day

lc86 · 23/12/2020 16:02

@Jwl45 yes, felt so rough! The flu feeling passed after a few antibiotics so fingers crossed you feel a lot better Christmas Day! And just stay on top of paracetamol and ibuprofen! The only feeling I still have is feeling all clammy but I've read that can just be due to hormones etc xx

viixie · 23/12/2020 17:08

Our daughter Winnifred Daisy arrived 21/12/2020 at around 03:40. My other labours were long back to back requiring ventouse. I spent a lot of time towards the end of this pregnancy trying to optimise my positions and ensure baby not back to back. What a difference it made 😬 Baby born at home
, very unplanned caught by my hubby still in her amniotic sack.

Jwl45 · 23/12/2020 17:22

@lc86 thank you. Just picked up the antibiotics... Heading home to take them and some paracetamol. Oh and picked up a cabbage as that apparently is meant to relieve pain 🤷🏼‍♀️ Will give anything a go. Doesn't help that I have an absolute rubbish pain threshold.

Jwl45 · 23/12/2020 17:23

@viixie
WOW..... She couldn't wait to meet you both! Huge congratulations! Xx

Snowwhite2020 · 23/12/2020 17:25

Congrats @viixie!! Enjoy your new baby xx

@NaomiB79 I’m so sorry to hear you are experiencing PND. I think it’s amazing that you had the strength to ask for help and I am so glad you are already feeling better.

@Anotherboy congratulations on the birth of your baby also! I also think it is amazing you are able to post about your experience of PND. I think it’s so important we are able to talk about depression- it’s totally normal and common and treatment and talking is so important.

Love to you xx

lc86 · 23/12/2020 17:38

@viixie wow what a birth story! Congratulations x

Jellycat2020 · 23/12/2020 17:55

@NaomiB79 can I ask what help you're getting for your pnd? I have also had symptoms and was encouraged to speak to my gp who said yes, it could be pnd and offered antidepressants. No option of counselling. There doesn't seem to be any option of counselling available on NHS and it wasn't offered - I'd have to pay to go privately. I'm reluctant to go down the route of antidepressants straight away, but similarly, I can't afford to pay £90 per session to speak to a counsellor . I know about the charities so this is my next path but I'd be interested to see what you were offered.

NaomiB79 · 23/12/2020 18:34

@Jellycat2020 all she could offer me was anti-depressants, as we have the same issues accessing counselling as you've mentioned. I had clinical depression 10 years ago and having tried different therapies then including counselling, for me the thing that made the biggest difference was the ant-depressants. I avoided taking them for a long time but actually wish I had taken them sooner in hindsight. I felt a million times better once they had built up in my system I took them for 6 months then stopped and I had no issues coming off them.

The counselling helped me think about triggers and why I was depressed but it was the anti-depressants that rectified the chemical imbalance in my brain which is what causes depression.

Everyone is different and you have to do what's best for you, anti depressants aren't the right option for some people for lots of reasons but based on my previous experience, I believe that they are what will make the biggest difference to me most quickly. I hope you feel better soon and find the right thing for you xx

lc86 · 23/12/2020 19:13

@Jellycat2020 @NaomiB79 citalopram is all that worked for me, I didn't find counselling helpful as I didn't know what I was feeling really, but of course everyone is different and different things work. Hope you both feel better soon ❤️

Kj1010 · 23/12/2020 19:17
