Hi everyone, how are you all getting on? Thought I'd come and catch up. Congratulations @sandrastillstuffed.

I wanted to ask if anyone is struggling with an oversupply of breast milk and engorgement? I've been I agony for 2 days now. I feel upset because they tell you to feed on demand if they're going through a growth spurt etc then what happens once they settle into a routine again. My LO turns 4 weeks tomorrow and past week she's been fussy and wanting to feed more often and now that she has finally settled my breasts are getting engorged every 2 hours before her next feed. She's waiting longer periods to be fed now and I'm in agony. I've had trouble expressing for some reason from the beginning not much has come out. There's been a huge improvement but even with the expressing and feeding I'm not getting any relief :( GP said its not mastitis as I have no fever. I do know I have clogged ducts as I can feel painful lumps just beneath my armpits. I'm doing everything to unclog them but no success. Does anyone have any tips? It makes it all depressing. I was starting to enjoy breastfeeding my baby girl. It's mummy daughter time but now I'm in agony I want to give up.

peachypetite · 19/12/2020 14:44

@Asianchick6693 do you have a pump so you can express just for a few mins on each to take the edge off?

Kpm7 · 19/12/2020 15:39

@MaverickDanger any recommendations what to watch? I watched the whole of Jane the virgin in like 2 weeks now I am guttered because it takes me a while to get in to things. I am not usually a tv person but I binged on that hahaha.
Xx

MaverickDanger · 19/12/2020 15:56

@Kpm7 watched a load of Christmas films! The Queen’s Gambit and the Good Place are really good - the Good Place has a similar feel to Jane the Virgin.

I’ve also downloaded a load of Masterchef Australia and Married at First Sight Australia to my iPad for if (when!) I’m induced on the 27th.

Asianchick6693 · 19/12/2020 16:44

@peachypetite yes I've been hand expressing and using a pump but hand expressing works best still not getting much relief they seem to be getting engorged before her next feed.

Kpm7 · 19/12/2020 19:46

@MaverickDanger are you hoping for a natural birth before your induction date?

Sorry if you have already said on here I’m just all over the place atm.

I will be going in Xmas day for induction if baby isn’t here by then.

Hoping for a sweep maybe tomorrow when my midwife calls. Not that a sweep is guaranteed. I am actually hoping I get there and when she examines me she says oh your 5cm dilated Hahahha that’s a dream!

Lol.

Thanks for the recommendation a few people have suggested queen gambit. I will defo give that a go. Xxx

Hope your doing well. X

MaverickDanger · 19/12/2020 19:55

@Kpm7 yep definitely hoping I have a natural birth before then. I’ve had 21/22nd in my head since about 16 weeks as they are significant dates in my family so you never know!

27th was the earliest they would book me in for, I’m holding on to the fact that he will be here and I’ll be holding him in no more than 9 days. That’s what’s keeping me going!

Fingers crossed the sweep kicks things off & that you’re already on your way!!

I had one on Thursday & the midwife was so non committal - she literally said it was 50/50 as to whether I’d go into labour or need to be induced.

I just mentally feel so over the fact that if I need to be induced, why not do it at 38 bloody weeks - especially if it ends in a c section.

Trying to stay positive but it feels like everyone has had their babies & I’m doing something wrong!

Kpm7 · 19/12/2020 23:12

Your doing so well and sounds so positive.

We can’t play with Mother Nature although I’ve tried all sorts haha. X

Wow exciting thought that just over a week we will both have our babies. I need to keep that beautiful thought.

Still doesn’t seem real to me. Xx

viixie · 20/12/2020 21:23

Anyone else given birth yet ? I'm 40+4 now, midwife appointment tomorrow and hoping I'll get a sweep this time (wasn't engaged before). It's getting far too close to Christmas for my liking. Don't want to miss out on my two big girls on Christmas Day 😫

MaverickDanger · 20/12/2020 21:34

Still here @viixie 🤷🏻‍♀️ 40+5 for me today.

I’ve got an induction booked in for 27th if he doesn’t turn up.

I’m kind of hoping that if he doesn’t come tomorrow or 22nd, then he waits until 27th.

Jwl45 · 20/12/2020 23:01

@Asianchick6693 this is of no help to you.. but I seem to be engorged tonight on one side.
I've stopped feeding on this side as the nipple became too sore.
HV also said I'd probably reopen the crack once I'd rested a few days and its healed.... So have decided to feed off the right hand side and formula.
Up until now (it's been 4 days) no engorgement..
. Leaky ...beyond leaky.... 🤦🏼‍♀️ But no pain until now. Not pain as such but really heavy and hard. I've tried hand expressing tonight and not had much luck at all actually. Hot shower seems to help in the morning. How about a warm flannel too? Or cold after feeding?.

Asianchick6693 · 20/12/2020 23:10

@Jwl45 thanks, it seems as if it has sorted itself out a bit? Not sure what's happened but seems like my breasts have regulated the amount of milk to make. I'm not sure what the couple of days of engorgement was about but maybe my body trying to figure out my baby's feeding patterns? Not sure but I've been feeling much better since yesterday.

Kpm7 · 21/12/2020 00:26

Hope everyone is doing well with the new babies.

And those still waiting are being as patient as can be.

I had another sweep today and got one Wednesday. My midwife is praying for a natural birth for me too. If not I have an appointment this Friday (Christmas) for an induction. Wasn’t what I wanted but I am 41+2 today and they will only allow me to be 42 max before starting me off.

:( xxx

Pray for me the baby comes this week. Xx

Jwl45 · 21/12/2020 00:39

@asianchick6693
That is good news. ☺️ I had pain a few weeks ago on the right... Felt like bruising under the armpit.... Only lasted a day or so and then seemed to sort itself.
I hope this left side sorts itself without too much trouble.

NaomiB79 · 21/12/2020 01:56

Omg my baby will not sleep tonight! I have been trying since 10.30pm to get her to sleep. She keeps feeding for a few mins falling asleep then when I transfer her to her crib she is wide awake! I'm now on my 5th attempt at getting her down. So tired.....

Charl88 · 21/12/2020 04:06

@NaomiB79 must be something in the air. I've been feeding on and off for 2.5 hours xx

peachypetite · 21/12/2020 06:44

Matilda’s colic has really improved thank god. The little remedies gripe water has been amazing.

Nic2908 · 21/12/2020 07:10

Hi guys. Sorry been swollen. Had my little boy early hours on Saturday. In the end it was an emergency section for me as it had been very long, very painful and I couldn't progress past 5cm due to him being back to back. Since then all planning has gone out the window as really struggling to feel positive above the pain if that makes any sense. Aanted to breast feed but formula is just easier for him and for us right now (I have no colostrum never mind my milk coming in). I'm going to still try to hand express daily and use a hand pump as hoping maybe to express for him, who knows??? Any tips for those first few days after a section??

lc86 · 21/12/2020 09:00

@Nic2908 I'm 2 weeks post c section and feel 100x better so just know there is a light. I also really wanted to breastfeed but stopped after 4 days as was struggling with positions etc due to c section pain. I tried expressing but that made me miserable too and my baby was then formula fed and I was so much happier for it. C section wise make sure you set reminders for your painkillers, don't let them wear off. I'm still taking them but only because I've ended up with mastitis, my scar doesn't hurt at all now! Make sure you take any offers of help, even just to make you a cup of tea. I've been lucky and DH has been doing night feeds, he gets 6 weeks off which has been a blessing! Try and rest as much as you can the first week especially, if I felt ok I was trying to do too much and paying for it that night and the next day xx

lc86 · 21/12/2020 09:01

@Nic2908 also try and get people to pass you the baby rather than bending down to pick baby up etc xx

Jwl45 · 21/12/2020 09:19

@Nic2908 congratulations! Aw you have had a tough time of it. After C-section- just take things easy. It's major surgery after all. (That's what everyone kept reminding me when I'd try and do things!) Rest plenty. Yes get up and have a little walk now and again ... But take things slowly. Honestly, you'll feel so much better by the end of the week. And keep taking pain relief! Most importantly also - take the time to just sit and enjoy your baby. Housework etc can wait! 😃

Kj1010 · 21/12/2020 10:23

@Nic2908 congratulations and yes like others have said take it easy painkillers defo I made that mistake a few times well I decided to have a little lay in bath only like 5/10 mins woke up to bleeding i stopped literally like 3 days after birth midwife did say baths can bring on bleeding so now have a achy belly but you know what it's well worth that little soak on the whole body muscles the oh is back at work for 3 days so I done the night feeds last night 3 times he had me up but went straight back to sleep after but was awake every 2 to 2n half hours so a little tired 2 weeks today he is cant believe it

Kj1010 · 21/12/2020 14:35

Omg my lo has not settled today has had one nap for like a hour and has been awake practically the whole day feeding well though but I havent been able to do tidying or anything also had hv phone call today so that done n dusted for a few weeks also have achy legs today dunno why

peachypetite · 21/12/2020 20:05

@Kj1010 mine neither I am so so tired. Haven’t managed any nap today and I’m feeling it!
