I'm due 14th November too - a girl. Trying to get the bag packed now! We had our final NCT class last night... considering squeezing in some hypnobirthing stuff in the next few weeks. I keep hearing recommendations for the Positive Birth Company pack, but I'm a pretty sceptical, non hippy kinda person, so finding it hard to press go in case it's just too "alternative" for me! Finally got the living room painted - looking forward to finishing cleaning the carpets and moving in all the baby bits from the mounting pile... maybe calm can (briefly) reign then?

jalu47 · 08/10/2020 21:39

@jojanna I would really recommend the PBC. I read the book first and have got the digital pack - it really isn't hippy dippy at all. I've got a science background / education so was also quite skeptical but found that is very much based on the facts around how we are designed to give birth. Has made me totally shift my thinking and weirdly looking forward to it. Would also recommend downloading the Freya app to help with labour.. I've had soooo many people say it was priceless in helping them keep calm and get through it.

danielasummer · 08/10/2020 21:52

@jojanna I second @jalu47 - I've done the PBC digital course and I'm reading the book. It's all based on science and I'd definitely recommend! I genuinely can't wait to give birth now and was quite anxious before.

@NaomiB79 sorry to hear you were in triage but glad they do not think it’s preeclampsia. I think big baby pregnancies are at higher risk, or at least this is what I was told.

I’d be interested to know what you decide in terms of the birth/ how the convo goes with the consultant tomorrow.

I’ve got another growth scan next week to see if baby still measuring as big as last time... xx

excitednerves · 09/10/2020 05:37

Hello! I’ve missed loads but hope you’re all well.

I had a consultant appt yesterday (31weeks +5) and so far all looking good. Baby is head down and no immediate sign of another preemie but she has dropped centile so I’m back in 3 weeks for another check. Fingers crossed I can keep this one in a bit longer than my first!

I have packed my hospital bag apart from the last minute bits and need to pick up snacks today.

I’m really feeling the back pain now and finally gave in to getting some omeprazole prescribed as heartburn has gone through the roof!

Only 3 weeks left of work for me, can’t wait to finish up and relax (as much as you can relax with a 1 year old!) for a bit.

NatalieH2220 · 09/10/2020 06:00

Hi everyone I keep losing sight of these threads but have been on and off for a while. I'm due 23rd November with a boy. He will be our second,

I had my flu jab last week and felt really rough that evening. Have been getting over a cold/cough (not Covid) for a few weeks now so not sure if the combination made it worse but finally getting there I think.

I have lots of 0-3 too but also a fair few in first size/up to 1m. My son didn't fit into 0-3 until around 6 weeks so ended up with quite a bit. Luckily get to use them all again so haven't had to buy too much clothes wise.

I have two more weeks at work. The weeks are going so quick and I'm stressing a little as so much to do (work wise). First to do when I'm off is definitely pack a hospital bag!

NaomiB79 · 09/10/2020 06:25

@Snowwhite2020

So my consultant phoned me yesterday as she had reviewed my notes from Wed night in triage. She said that my blood pressure being elevated with the severe swelling can be signs of preeclampsia (although the urine test said I didn’t have it on Wed).

She wants my bp checked regularly from now as she thinks preeclampsia is more likely than not to develop in the next few weeks! I'm a bit worried about that.

If I get any more symptoms before Monday when I get it checked again I need to go straight down.

I discussed my birth with her and she said if I stay well (bp normal and no other complications) then they will only induce me a few days before my due date. This is because of my age (41), they won't let me go over my due date as standard practice.

I asked her about the baby measuring big and she said a big baby on its own wasn’t a reason to be induced early or have a section, so I would need to try and deliver naturally then if I needed assistance as things progressed that would be decided at that point. I get the feeling that my consultant is not a fan of sections! She said the only reason they would deliver early would be if the baby was big as a result of diabetes or if I develop severe symptoms of preeclampsia and preference would be induction over a section.

I suppose they will make a recommendation for you based on any other factors (baby's position, position of your placenta etc) too.

I have another growth scan on 16th (I'll be 36 weeks so will be keen to see then what things are looking like in terms of the baby's size.

Snowwhite2020 · 09/10/2020 08:06

@NaomiB79 thanks for letting me know. I hope you stay well. Can totally understand why the possible preeclampsia is stressful. Here’s to a restful weekend... xx

Jellycat2020 · 09/10/2020 08:56

@jojanna yay, baby buddies! 😊 I know what you mean about it being too 'hippy'. I'm reading the PBC hypnobirthing book at the moment which does make a lot of sense and isn't too 'out there'. I was also looking at the PBC course as I like the idea of it but we'll see!

danielasummer · 09/10/2020 10:20

@NaomiB79 bless you I'm not surprised you've been worried. Just try and rest as much as you can and let us know how your appointment goes today.

Woken up today with throbbing lower back pain - the only thing that seems to help is walking 😣 if anyone has any remedies I would love to hear them..will try anything!

Asianchick6693 · 09/10/2020 10:51

Hey girls, so I had the first treatment session for my PGP. Received a tester session of acupuncture. Lasted 10 minutes and I've also been put on crutches.

Although I found the Physiotherapist quite rude, she kept asking me what is specifically stopping me from working when she could clearly see it all has affected my mobility to the point I am struggling to walk which is why she herself gave me crutches and told me to completely rest.

It's quite difficult to explain my pain and pinpoint it all. I just know is that it's making my life difficult as I'm struggling to function and the pain is pretty much everywhere on my pelvis but she's making me pick and choose only one part to treat. She kept saying you're not making my job easy are you. I felt awful :( and was also implying whatever part she is treating now should be enough to get me back to work. When I am in pain all over.. Am I being dramatic?

Babyhope98 · 09/10/2020 11:26

Don’t listen to her if you don’t feel well enough to go to work and are in pain rest and relax for you and the baby. You don’t need the stress of going to work if you don’t feel up to it. She just sounds very unprofessional to me @Asianchick6693

Asianchick6693 · 09/10/2020 11:35

@Babyhope98 thank you, I just felt awful as she was downplaying just how bad it has been for me. She has been unprofessional from the beginning, missing appointments and calling me at the wrong dates and times and now that she's finally seen me at a face to face appointment, she just made my problems seem insignificant whilst ranting about the Chinese saying apparently how they have a lot to answer for by giving us this virus. I didn't feel comfortable at all. I even spoke to my manager today who said just stay off for as long as you need. I feel like I need the physio to help me and if I stay away from appointments, my workplace will think I'm making no effort to get better. Suggestions?

Babyhope98 · 09/10/2020 11:38

Well I would put in a complaint about this physio and ask for a new one. You shouldn’t have to go anywhere you don’t feel comfortable, I don’t think your work would think you weren’t trying to get better if you tell them the reason and how she was @Asianchick6693

NaomiB79 · 09/10/2020 11:39

@Asianchick6693 I'd carry on with your treatment as hopefully it will help you be more mobile until the baby comes and prevent longer term problems but I would ask if you can see someone else. She seems really unprofessional and that's an outrageous thing to say about the virus!

Can you make a complaint about her and ask to see someone else. Just list all the reasons you've put on here about why you want to see someone else

Asianchick6693 · 09/10/2020 11:48

@NaomiB79 @Babyhope98 I know when she said that thing about the virus I was kind of mortified that she even felt like she could say something like that and the whole appointment she kept saying like she can't see anything physically wrong as in my hips weren't out of alignment. Just basically downplaying my problems but contradicting herself when she could see I was not walking right. She's also the one that put worries in my head about my work forcing me to start mat leave early and told me to reduce my hours instead. It's like she just wants me to get back to work because she thinks I'm making it all up. I'm not playing the system here, I'm suffering day and night for it but thanks girls, if I do complain I don't know what it means for me as she's the only pelvic health physiotherapist there. I don't want it to be a case of complaining then having to face her again. I'll definitely look into it though.

december2020 · 09/10/2020 14:42

Has anyone bought a next to me crib? Which one did you go for?

We've bought nothing yet for the baby, so slowly trying to get my ass into gear and get a few essentials. I just have no idea how to even compare the items (if feels like you'll only know if it's right once the baby is here and you're actually using it).

peachypetite · 09/10/2020 14:45

@Asianchick6693 oh my goodness she sounds totally unprofessional! You poor thing it sounds like you’ve had to put up with a lot of pain I bet you can’t wait to finish. @december2020 we have a snuzpod given to me by someone who had kids already so just got a new mattress. I think they are all much of a much to be honest.

december2020 · 09/10/2020 14:53

@peachypetite I think you're very right! That's probably why it's feels impossible to compare and decide!
I always thought I'd be that person that has everything bought and ready at 16 weeks and here I am at 30 weeks with nothing purchased yet as I feel I have all the time in the world still 😬
Will check out the snuzpod - thank you!

BG1234 · 09/10/2020 14:53

@danielasummer- I’ve got back problems anyway but have had lots of back pain this trimester so can sympathise.
I’ve tried: a support belt, sleeping propped right up, resting completely, a birthing ball, paracetamol, massage with oil/ small amount of tiger balm, different types of yoga stretches for pregnancy back care, heat (hot water bottle/heat pack/bath/shower on area).

I generally have it everyday regardless but I find sitting upright makes it worse. The most effective thing is reclining with my trusty hot water bottle on my back. I have found the stretches don’t prevent the pain but they do help a tiny bit when I am in pain

Nic2908 · 09/10/2020 15:09

@december2020 we picked the chicco next to me air i think it is called? The one with the button side not the zip down one, it seemed to be a bit bigger than the others so hoping will last as long as possible.

Nic2908 · 09/10/2020 15:11

@december2020 its the luna not the air.

Kj1010 · 09/10/2020 15:26

@december2020 we have a moses basket and a travel cot also the bit from the pram my oh didn't like the look etc of the next to me beds and can honestly say this is my 4th and never really needed anything else tbh I still have quite a few bits n Bob's to get yet but nothing major got the pram ages ago only coz it came in a bundle that was fantastic so didn't wanna miss out on it I havent even took it out of box yet will do that soon to check all ok with it lol gl in what u decide to use

LookForTheGood · 09/10/2020 15:54

Hello!! Hope I can join too☺️! I’m due my second little bubba December 3rd! It’ll be a surprise for me too! Hope you’re all feeling ok and not too uncomfortable! Also, I have suddenly developed an insatiable appetite!

@lc86 You can ask for a VBAC referral with a midwife and they can go through all your notes from your previous labour etc if that helps at all? I found it really useful and made me feel confident to go for a VBAC but also know that I can ask to have a c section at any point if things aren’t progressing, similar to last labour, or have said no to induction and will have an elective c section if I go over 41 weeks!

@jojanna I read the positive birthing hypnobirthing book and thought it was great! I have a background in science too and found it really informing and wish I had read it before my first labour. It doesn’t suggest you mustn’t have drugs, it’s about making informed decisions about your labour.

december2020 · 09/10/2020 15:54

@Nic2908 @Kj1010
Thank you!! Will check out all these options!
Honestly, I started looking at cots and bedside cribs today and decided clearly nursery rugs and playmats are going to be much more important to get for when he's born than an actual place to sleep 🙈
Must go back to the crib section....
